Usually the bands performing do it on a small outdoor stage (100 people). I saw Rammstein at a Jimmy Kimmel performance back in 2011. Its filmed early in the day (7ish), and they play about 4 songs. Only one is aired. This clearly done a little different since it was performed from the Mountain View mausoleum. I’m sure it was Ghost that selected the location (to make it a little special). Mountain View Mausoleum - a few miles from my house. So cool to finally know this location! It was a perfect setting since they couldn't be on site in Hollywood. The sound and lighting - incredible!
I think it might have been originally planned to be like that. Their performance on Jimmy Kimmel was orginally scheduled for a day in January, shortly before the tour started, but had to be postponed. At that time the group had already been gathered together for the upcoming tour. With that date now, the tour is over, and they are probably all home taking a break and summoning all the musicians back would probably have been quite the hassle, so they did this instead. I am pretty sure this performance was shot along with the Impera release party.
I think Ghost is one of those bands that almost everyone likes when they hear them. Ive never heard someone whos heard them say they didnt like them lmao
Guess I am first the one. There seems to be a mismatch between the voice and lyrics. I think these songs would be better if someone else sang them. However, great lyrics! Also the persona of the band members doesn't match the music. I read about the bands organization like papa emeritus and cardinal copia and seems to be more appropriate for something that a death metal band would hatch. 😂
Not really, if some one are hardcore and True God's follower , I think their cool and catchy songs won't have any effects to them, but for me their songs are lit 🔥, but Mephistopheles aren't cool 😂

The backup vocalists really add to the song, it sounds so haunting and reminiscent of a church choir. I also really like that Tobias seems to be putting a Southern drawl into the performance, it's a really fun detail added to the atmosphere
@@whogavehimafork Absolutely! The lyrics and performances itself are great commentary, but even just the music/choir evoking the sound of gospel is so great. I've checked out the rest of Ghost's discography since I made my comment and I've had a blast

Yes they're great live. I've seen them twice in concert. First at 98Rockfest in Tampa a few years ago then at their own concert in Clearwater. Absolutely great band. I love his vocals.
I play this song everyday! I'm a musician, I've played guitar for 20 years and I've heard some amazing riffs, from amazing bands. But this song's has got such grooves, and tightness I've no heard anything like it in years. This is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time!
That microphone is so loud, the lead vocal is completely exposed and yet he has so much control to absolutely nail every syllable. Phenomenal performance!
He is ALWAYS better live. So powerful live. I feel something is always lost in the studio recordings. I just want to listen to these live performances only.
Usually, the studio version of any song is when the song is in its infancy. Once a band begins to tour in support of its release, the band can really dial the song in. Especially all those little things that get masked in the recording. GHOST is definitely one of those bands that is better LIVE.
Yeah, it's even more awesome when you realize it's not a love song, or at least a traditional love song...more like a ploy by a clergyman to feign love towards their supporters in order to gain power and control over them...like they do. Lol Made it even more awesome when I found that out! Beautiful song about some pretty f#$ked up content...

Tobias has such a great voice on the records, but I love it even more without the studio polish. It sounds so real, so human, not perfect but authentic.
I also noticed that each album except the new one and Prequelle the vocals either sound slightly different or mixed in a way to where they sound different. I think it’s to give each of the Papas their own unique voices in the songs, it’s such a small thing but I love that Tobias thought of that, either that or that’s just unintentional and the sounds and styles of each album give off that illusion. Still cool either way.
@@wildcatjs1570 I think its clearly intentional. It really does feel a certain papa is singing a certain song. Especially this album, I can certianly hear Papa IV singing tweinties lmao
The records are amazing but they really shine live. It's so well arranged and everyone nails their parts. That's the key. Park your ego at the door and just perform the music. Everything falls into place from there because it's so well written.
You know, my obsession with this band didn't start in a healthy place to begin with and has gotten more and more outta control recently. This performance gave me goosebumps!!
The release of "Impera" is so bizzare: A Ghost-branded Stock Car in the Xfinity series race, a live performance on ABC... it is just so wild to see this super-niche band I enjoyed 9 years-or-so ago enjoying what seems to be mainstream levels of success. Doesn't hurt that, as an album, "Impera" is probably the most bang for your buck Ghost album to date.
Completely agree. I personally see a lot of glam rock influence in IMPERA (especially in Spillways, where the chorus reminds me a lot of Poison by Alice Cooper), so the super catchy riffs make it super accessible to newcomers. And then, if they actually looks at the lyrics, they can find a lot of depth and seriousness in them, which can suck them in even more. Not a single bad song in it.
Honestly if u told me back in 2011 when I was jamming to opus eponymous that they would b on a late night talk show I probably would of laughed. Crazy.

I am pretty sure this performance was shot along with the Impera release party.
Best band going... Kudos for Kimmel to show Ghost!

@Bill Fukkayommamanigga lmao were lucky rock music is still broadcasted. Grow up
I think Ghost is one of those bands that almost everyone likes when they hear them.
@@karakol86 but it’s supposed to be catchy not death-metal, the entire point is that it sounds like what the devil or smth would send

@DMB1990 Misinformed. The other guys not to be named just wanted recognition. They even went to court about it. They LOST. Not only once but TWICE.
The backup vocalists really add to the song, it sounds so haunting and reminiscent of a church choir. I also really like that Tobias seems to be putting a Southern drawl into the performance, it's a really fun detail added to the atmosphere

It's just missing the punchy backing vocals on this recording, they sound really wark compared to the album

He wore the new robe finally! ❤️

He is ALWAYS better live. So powerful live. I feel something is always lost in the studio recordings. I just want to listen to these live performances only.
I wish this was the version on Spotify. It's so much better
Right! The studio versions are always so polished and I think he honestly sounds better live because it's more raw, and because of the backing vocals
Usually, the studio version of any song is when the song is in its infancy. Once a band begins to tour in support of its release, the band can really dial the song in. Especially all those little things that get masked in the recording. GHOST is definitely one of those bands that is better LIVE.
I love the whole new album, Darkness at the heart of my love is pure magic.

You need a good female voice in music. I once had the chance to play drums with a pianist. Should have taken it!!
Calllll miiiiiii 🎧🎧🎧🎧

Playing as warm-up to Metallica wasn't mainstream enough? ;)
Dude it really has been almost 10 years 💀💀 never even realized Year Zero came out that long ago
Definitely not the best. Opus, Infestissumam and Meliora in that order.
