Any idea if it would be possible to easily export a video like this to a sprite map for game animations? Maybe export frames to photoshop with a canvas size the same as the mosaic effect numbers?
Since I'm on a Mac, I'm not familiar with AVI files but I'm pretty sure you can bring in an AVI file into After Effects and do the same thing. Most important is that you render with no anti-aliasing to ensure those sharp edges!

If you set the AE layer to draft settings, that will remove the AA

how did you open the movie file in c4d
File > Open then select the movie you want to open
i have tried this when with .mov and a .mp4 and a .avi but it all tells me unkown file format Thank you so much replying to my comment
Sorry for not clarifying, You must do this in the Picture Viewer window, Window > Picture Viewer then go and click File> Open
i just downloadeda free toad 3d model and when i try to open it in cinema 4d i get a bunch of different views and cameras... i cant even move hahahah
