THE best part of these tutorials is how you explain, comprehensibly, what each aspect of the tools you use, as well as all related tools. Oh... and all the projects are super beautiful.... that's also really important :D
After doing this process, here are a few tips for anyone else out there trying it: (1) When I reduced my image size, I tried different resolutions. My picture was had more stuff in it, so I went with 16 pixels/inch, and it looked good. (2) In the indexed color stage, I increased the number of colors, since I had more colors to start with. The live preview is great for testing different numbers of colors. (3) It helped to have the original image in a second window when I was manually editing pixels. This part is very artistic to try and get your pixel art to look like the big picture, and this was super helpful. (4) I closed and re-opened photoshop in the middle of the process. if you do this, you may need to re-select "Nearest Neighbor (hard edges)" again when you increase your picture size again.
This is by far the best tutorial I've come across on TH-cam. Your video is well organized with a goof pace and extremely informative explanation. Thanks!
hello, mr marty! i've used photoshop for a long time but i only know the basic things and tools. i just want to tell you that i'm more than thankful that i've discovered your channel. the way you explain really warms my heart somehow and it's really easy to understand! thank you mr marty, i hope your life is filled with nothing but happiness only. 😭💞
your tutorials are fun, it's a bit challenging for beginners like me but atleast I can follow the steps. The downside is that sometimes my work is not so clean and well finished. Thank you Marty!
Hello Mr. Marty! I just accidentally saw this video while searching for some vexel art tutorial. And I was very glad that I have discover this channel. The way the video was edited and the instructions are very informative. And your calm and clear voice was a big bonus. It makes me pay all my focus and attention to everything you say. I'm looking forward learning another photoshop skills with your videos. God bless you all and stay healthy! Thank you for making this kind of videos. ☺☺☺💕
To be honest Marty I was just trying to do the previous tutorial you did for this, but couldn't achieve a good result as I am not so good with Photoshop. I was really hoping that you would make an easier version for this and here we are.... Thank you Marty. You are the best
I'm stuck at the very beginning. I can't apply "smart blur" to my smart object because it's greyed out. My picture is in mode 8 bits and RGB. I've also tried to apply smart blur after rasterizing but nothing happens either.
in video forgot to say that in resizing image after pixelating - you need to select in window IMAGE SIZE at resample Nearest Neighbor (hard edges). Than your resizing was hard pixelating. Thnx to author
Hey, thanks Marty for this! Smart blur was greyed out on my first attempt, (I was inside a 16 bit document) went back to 8bit and its usable. I have never looked into which bit format is best for what I am attempting, so that has given me something new to learn too :D I don't know if that is a good or worthwhile option for a short video explaining (or if its a common sense thing I am missing lol) Either way thank you and keep bringing joy and education to people :D
Glad you worked it out! Over the years, I've mentioned many times in various videos to work in RGB, 8 bits/Channel. Many filters won't work or are greyed out if the mode isn't correct.
Sir your all videos are very helpful. Please sir crate a video to full photoshop tutorial all tool use. I know full photoshop tutorial video are very long 3, 4 hours but we need it.
Question for you. When I set the mode to "Indexed Color" and set the # of colors, I cannot select a color that is not present on the image. For instance after this step, if there is no black in the image, but I set the pencil too to use Black, it just defaults to the darkest color on the image. How do I add utilize additional colors?
Hi, i have a Question at 4:25, well i'm new to photoshop and so I don't know much about how stuff is done in it but I want know about "Can we add other colors to 8-bit art at 4:27 from our own too? if yes then how?" cuz I've tried selecting the different colors for the pen from top right color selection pane which shows the color I've selected but when I draw it'll draw in the last color that I picked using color picker tool
One way is click a color with your magic wand tool and make sure "Contiguous" is unchecked at the top. Doing this makes a selection around all those colors. Make a new layer and fill the selection with a new color.
Hey Marty, at the last step around 5:05. When I change the height, width and resolution, my image size drastically increases to 95G. Do you know as to how I can fix this ?
If you don't need to save the PSD file, then click the icon at the upper, right corner of the Layers panel to open the fly-out list and click "Flatten Image". Go to File - Save As. Save it as a jpg.

If smart blur isn't available, just switch the image from 16-bit to 8-bit in Image > Mode > 8-Bit Channel
Smart blur is greyed out when I convert the layer to a smart object
Go to Image > Mode > RGB color, 8 bits/Channel.
I'm stuck at the very beginning. I can't apply "smart blur" to my smart object because it's greyed out. My picture is in mode 8 bits and RGB. I've also tried to apply smart blur after rasterizing but nothing happens either.
Never mind, I've solved it creating a background from layer.
Great!
well explained! i subbed

Yes, your absolutely right. Even though we can see in the video that "Nearest Neighbor (hard Edges)" is selected, I did forget to mention it. 🙄

You've got to make sure you've added your new color to the "Color Table" first.
@@BLTV_Photoshop That worked! I don't normally subscribe to people but the quick support on an older video warrants it.
I followed along but my end result has grid lines going through all of the pixels not sure why
View > Show > uncheck "Pixel Grid"
good video

Perfect. Now how can I do this automatically to multiple images? (I am making a game.)
Create a Smart Object of the original face.

How to save the image. I want to save it for profile photo but the size is always to small
Hey Marty, at the last step around 5:05. When I change the height, width and resolution, my image size drastically increases to 95G. Do you know as to how I can fix this ?
Make sure "pixels" is on; not "inches".
تفاس
I tried this, but my picture turned into a mass of colored polygons 😂. Maybe it was too dark for the colors to be represented properly.
Same!! Came to the comments to see if there was a fix.
can I apply the same method on a sketch i made?
Yes.
@@BLTV_Photoshop thank You.. means alot
Hi Sir, Which software is best for 8 bit sprites editing? I want output as hex code.
I'm not sure I understand your question. You can edit the 8-bit sprite in Photoshop and designate hex codes to any color.
@@BLTV_Photoshop i am not asking about hex colour code, I am asking about sprites character code, which are in bin or hex file. I want that output
But its not work with me maybe image quality not so well i dont know why.
damn, you are the fking genius! thank so much :D
how do I render it in a good quality?
Does this work on mobile too?
No.
how we need to save it ?
If you don't need to save the PSD file, then click the icon at the upper, right corner of the Layers panel to open the fly-out list and click "Flatten Image". Go to File - Save As. Save it as a jpg.
Wow
i followed the instructions but my final result is blurry omg what to do? thank u for answering
Ok, I got it. At the end, when you resize image from smaller to bigger size, you have to check resample: nearest neighbor (hard edges)
