      musicalbethan I've always s known I had a problem with faces. Nowadays I'm scared to go to business meetings because I will introduce myself again or I'll not introduce myself thinking they already know me! It's horrible. And when it's over I'll try to remember I'm my mind what that person looked like and I truly can't... I hate this

    Okay I have been saying that I think I have partial facial blindness for YEARS. I relate so much to everything you talked about, especially the panic of meeting someone (for possibly the 5th time) and not being able to place how you know them. Also, I recently watched The Departed for the first time and could not FOR THE LIFE OF ME understand what was going on until someone told me that Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio were not the same character. Even then, I had a hard time figuring out who was who anytime they changed clothing. I've never heard anyone else talk about this, so thank you! 💜

    I don't know why but the story of the facial blindness reminded me of the movie "Memento" (I know facial blindness and short-term memory loss is not the same but it kind of is in a way) so I was picturing you taking polaroids of everyone you've met and writing who they are and where you met them in the back, rude I know...

    I have really bad social anxiety, so meeting new people is very very stressful and I spend most of the time trying not to look like a creepO so I just always forget people because of stress and and always reintroducing myself to people over and over. So I feel ya on that.

  • @raemouse
    @raemouse 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I relate so much to how you described your partial face blindness. I definitely have some form of face blindness, most of my problem is that I can't picture someone's face in my head in between seeing them, even my family. I recognise people I know well when I do see them but for most people I know, I don't recognise them straight away, it takes me a second and I question it all the time. I also see similarities in people's faces too easily, I will see five people in one day who I think look like another single person I know and I think that comes from not processing faces fully and only processing the general, vague appearance of someone's face. It's really difficult to explain and it is also really frustrating and scary because I'm always worried I won't recognise people when I'm waiting to meet them. I'm sure I walk past so many people each week who know me in college and work but I don't recognise in that second I looked up so they think I ignore them, I worry constantly that the blonde woman I walked past was actually the blonde woman I do know in college. I'm also feeling like I need some sort of diagnosis or medical agreement from someone that this is a real thing because I don't do well without validation on anything... this is a real problem for me, even if it is not like the severe cases of face blindness. I've known about it for a long time and related instantly. I also can't recreate people's voices in my head unless I can remember a sentence word for word that they said within the last couple of hours maybe, that is really frustrating because I can't even recreate my family's voices when I think about them. I wonder it is all linked together? Does anyone else experience this? Either alone or with some form of facial blindness?

    I relate to the facial blindness SO much. I always thought that I was just bad at remembering people's names, but when you look up techniques for remembering names, it's often to relate the name to a facial feature (big eyes etc.). I realized that I just don't record the facial features of someone when meeting them for the first time/a short while. I don't know how many times I have had to look someone up on facebook before meeting them so that I have an image to compare with when trying to find someone in a crowd, and I have so many strategies for pretending like I remember people and keeping a conversation. As you said I'm scared of coming off as cold for not remembering people, but it's either never introducing myself anyone or ending up reintroducing myself a bunch! 😳

    Hearing you talk about facial blindness actually made me feel loads better (and who doesn't like feeling better and validated?!). We met at SitC and I felt like we had a pretty wonderful conversation and then we met again later on and it was like strangers! Haha. But to be fair my hair was styled totally differently. You're absolutely right, it feels wonderful to be remembered. I wouldn't let this stop you, though! And being honest about it helps a lot I think. Like I struggle with names, and as soon as I tell people this, the unspoken tension breaks. Anywayyy Just wanted to pop in and say hi!

    Baah yes! London commutes!
    Back home in Wellington, everything is house parties cos everyone is at most a 20 minute bus ride away OR everyone has cars so you carpool.
    Here in London I can live in the same suburb as someone and it'll still take the better part of an hour to get to their house, so no-one has house parties cos it takes so long to get anywhere. We all go to a pub/club that's equidistant from all and have to spend twice as much on booze.

    can you show a video where you do your eyeliner in depth? I also have super hooded eyes and other eyeliner tutorials just don't seem to work

    I only saw The Departed once and that was years ago, but I had the same issue! It's really tricky in that movie though, but I also feel like I suffer from a light form of face blindness. But I think that often I just don't focus on the person enough? It's the same thing with names.
