Tessa you are so inspiring. I've been watching you for a long long time and watching you grow as an artist and speaker always makes me smile. Keep doing what makes you happiest.
Dicks Out For Harambe why would you say that? She’s doing what she loves and I for one thing she’s very talented. You’re spreading negativity for no reason, why would you do that?
Recently I read Quiet, a book about introversion and extroversion. At the end the author writes "The secret to life is to put yourself in the right lighting. For some its a Broadway spotlight, for others, a lamplit desk." As someone who navigates both (through touring and writing), what are your thoughts? how do you balance the need to be alone and work with being out in the world/doing things/interacting with people?
Tessa, I've watched you from just about day one. I am so proud of how far you've come. Now you have 1 million followers! My heart sings for you and your success! -Grace
I used to have this crushing fear of failure. I wanted absolute perfection, and so when I did something as well as possible I couldn't let myself enjoy it because it's what I expected of myself. I have since had to deal with the self-esteem issues associated with not being perfect. Now I know my limits and I know I won't succeed at everything, and it's freeing to know that and be happy with that.
there's just somethin bout failing that just puts a damper on every other goal that you set that relates to the one you failed. don't let that consume you, sure you didn't meet it the first time- doesn't mean you're gonna fail it again and again. with that said, don't set higher expectations for goals that you succeed or fail bc you feel like you need to do better. feel comfortable with the things you do and the little tiny things you accomplish ! your vids are lovely and ily
Goodness. The backround in this video is SO gorgeous. I discovered you this year ( it was a beautiful discovery) and I've been enjoying your videos a lot! I think it's hard to set goals which are achievable on the one hand and on the other hand challenge you to become better- by 'achieving' goals you automatically are excited to reach new ones. Hope to see you one day touring in Germany! lots of love your way!
Just for reference, and because I love it, this is the quote: "Dude, suckin' at somethin' is the first step towards being sorta good at somethin'" - Jake the Dog, Adventure Time
We're daily vloggers, and we edit the day after. That way it allows you to work on the edit throughout the day, but it also lets your relive the day before! you've got this Tessa!
hey tessa i know you wont read this nor answer back but thank you, thank you so much for just being alive and existing and writing music and overall for just talking about your day. I share similar views as you on terms of failing and in all honesty its been a weird year for me ive felt like such a failure and ive excluded myself from a whole lot but watching your videos some how makes me feel part of something. I want to move foreward currently i feel as if im standing still- im not inspired or i feel i lack the creativity i once had. School is draining and time is going by so fast- what do you suggest i do to fuel my goal of being inspired or getting back out there in the world.
"And I definitely didn't like to tell people goals out loud. If I were to do anything, I'd do it internally, so if I did fail, nobody would know." This is one of the most relateable things I've heard in a while. Every time I watch one of your vids, and I've only seen a couple, you say something that hits me oddly close to home. It felt amazing hearing somebody else say that. I never know quite how I want to explain it to people, and it's embarrassing in it's own right to try and verbalize it without the person/people you're talking to think it's silly when they don't have the same problem as you.
I really like hearing Tessa's personal journey, because it helps me in mine in a lot of ways. "Practice Self-Compassion" and "People are doing the best they know how" are phrases I try and keep in mind and think on often.
I like the idea of getting rid of the stigma behind failure! I definitely agree that failure can be a stepping stone for growth and betterment and can definitely be super important in that process.
Love these chatty get ready with me videos, I want to do more of them on my channel! I think most people have the fear of failure but really failing is how we learn the most. There's nothing wrong with failing as long as you keep trying and learn from it!
lol! I noticed this too and was like whaaaat! When did the dog get there xD all you can see is it's reflection in the mirror but it is a nice touch with the woof at the end.
I really liked Anna Akana's video on failure; she talked about the importance of separating your identity/self worth from failure, and how it's just a process that everyone has to go through to get better! Easy to say, hard to do.
Credit to a t-shirt from dftba.com for this quote. "every failure is a chance to get it right" has become integral in my life. I love the attitude of positivity around it. I now have that saying on a plaque on my desk at work as a reminder to be positive for us next attempt after any failures.
part of me tells people my goals to try to say "well now they know i have to succeed or else i'll let them down" and it's terrifiying when they see what happens but this video has honestly helped me thank you!
I love listening to you talk. It's so calm and relaxing to me. They way you sort of think out loud so we can all follow your train of thought is nice. But, on topic, I think we all fear failing but you seem like you've hit a point of accepting that failing something isn't as big of a disaster as your fear makes it out to be. It's all about learning and growing.
I love how everytime I have a negative feeling in my life Tessa is posting a video about it. It happened again, talking about the fear of failure. I really love you Tessa, you are inspiring me ❤
IM JUST SO GLAD bc honestly tessa ur videos calm me so much like really really really, you talking about stuff and making sense of things and just your voice and yoUR EVERYTHING
Going through a lonely time right now. The only person in my family who accepts my coming out is now dying and I found out my 'friends' always slag me off behind me back. Thank you Tessa, and to TH-cam in general. Tessa, your videos help me to live. Thank you.
I feel like you're growing and maturing so much this year as a person. Really respect you for being so open and honest about what you're learning about. I really relate to your feelings of being afraid of failure. And sidenote...OMG NEW MUSIC! YES!
a teacher told me once "learn how to fail, but better" and to me it means its okay to fail because you can learn from it, and keep learning from it until you're so awesome at failing that you're not failing anymore.
i dedinitely have changed my mindset on failure lately, especially since ive been learning to drive. you cant learn if you dont fail, i think! i mess up when driving sometimes and i get upset but once i figure out what i did wrong, BOOM. now i understand how to not do that/be better at that in the future. and thats way more helpful i feel. btw ive been watching ur vids for years now and i wanna say i just love how thoughtful and genuine your videos are, especially in the last year or two
Can I just say that I love the idea of Spring Cleaning your mind and setting goals a bit later in the year after adjusting to last years changes and revelations for a bit. Deciding to move forward with a better understanding of where you are and where you want to be, and *how* to get there. As opposed to setting your sights too soon (in January) and ultimately end up stumbling and wandering around, aimlessly. I want to start trying to incorporate this in my life because I think it would help me. Thank you for sharing
Tessa, once again you changed my views with a single video. You always make everything so clear and simple. You take these problems I have and don't solve them for me but give me a new way to view them and sort them out. Thank you for existing and being such an amazing human. Also I freaking ADORE your new room can you do like a room tour or something of that nature. I know it's not really your style to do those types of videos but your room is so pretty I just need to see how to achieve such an aesthetically pleasing room.
I really enjoy this style of video, it seems like a pretty relaxed way of making little updates, but at the same time it feels like a discussion about how you're doing
I feel like this just reiterates the theme of meet the Robinsons "keep moving forward" and failure helps us learn and grow. its a great thing to teach your viewers. :)
1. Your room aesthetic is goals holy shit 2. I have an exam in 2 hours 3. This was really helpful in calming my nerves for aforementioned exam. you da best
Just rewatched this video, and I am realizing just how gorgeous your style is. I've noticed it before, but especially in this video, seeing your background (which I'm assuming is your room), it's just so beautiful. You have some great style girl, in your room, clothes and hair. It is all fabulous. You are fabulous.
Goodness, I'm so happy and relieved I'm not the only one thinking of goals during only the spring. The time beforehand (esppppecially New Years) is too stressful. Thank you for the talk, Tessa! This was lovely!
everyone's questions are so deep! to throw something lighter and easier in there, what was teenage tessa like? what kinds of subjects did you do in high school? what's the first piece of advice that comes to mind to give your teenage audience? I'm super excited to watch 100 of your vids!! xx
I love these types of videos, and I am so proud of you no matter what. What you said is so relatable to me, I'm always afraid of failing and setting goals
Ahh yass Tess! I haven't seen your content in yearssss, I use to binge watch all your videos! What a blast from the past! Love this, all of this and your whole channel.
Talk about identity!! and how sometimes maybe the right thing to do doesn't necessarily go with our identity (example: knowing i should confront someone about sth but not doing so because im just the kind of person that avoids conflict, etc)
I know what you mean about failing. I've actually decided to take a step back from my channel, so that I can take the time to improve. The failure I see is in my lack of uploading - my failure to provide the content that people have subscribed to me for. But conversely, taking the time to step back and readjust enables me to better my content and come back stronger than before. Stepping stones indeed. I love that view, so thank you for reinforcing it!
Can't love these videos enough! I identify so well with many of your thoughts and feelings around creating and trying to be organized. As I deal with multiple points of transitioning in my life, and as I try to write my thoughts about my life and feelings, these video essays focus and describe some of these things really well. I've recently been using goals more and more, I think I always had such a vague impression of my future plans, if I had any, but I want to do a lot, and I relate with finding goals useful in directing efforts, I'm not someone who can make a detailed goal or plan and stick to it, but making a plan and recording in outside the mind through writing or otherwise, is just so helpful :)
you're one of the people who has inspired me for years to create. i need to set aside some time to discuss goals with myself, this helped me a lot. can't wait for your daily videos!
OMG I've missed these videos! I'm totally on board with the fear of failing for sure. I've stopped telling other people about my goals and things I'm trying so that my fear is completely self involved and I don't have the added fear of disappointing someone other than myself, because I can barely handle disappointing myself as is.
Omg Tessa THANK YOU, I really really needed to hear this today! I'm trying to get better at accepting my failures and being okay with things not always working out, as long as I tried by best. You've given me so much inspiration
I completely feel you about goals!! I've been thinking a lot about the future recently since apart from easter (which I ever hardly celebrate), nothing special really happens so you can think more objectively I guess?
It is an interesting topic but I have read other peoples comments and failing is something that we have to do in order to learn. It is a crucial thing to understand how to fail. So, we know what not to do. Just food for thought and I love this quote. "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Thomas A. Edison
"I definitely didn't like to tell people goals out loud, If i were to do anything I'd do it internally." I have never related to something someone said so much.
You are inspiring to me especially when it comes to setting up goals and setting yourself up for success. I only just started posting regularly here (only 16 videos so far!) so this was great to watch and listen to because it gave me the impetus to keep going and not be so hard on myself with any kind of 'failure'.
Dang, Tessa, you've been saying a lot of things I really connect with. In particular, the "not setting goals, but when you do not telling anyone" thing. I still don't tell anyone if something feels important to me but I know I have the potential for failure. I keep it in until it seems either doable or I've forgotten about it so it's moot anyway. Though I kind of think there's some stuff I wouldn't pursue at all if I didn't have that secret time where it's just mine to play with at the beginning.
I really appreciate how you are willing to process so much out loud on TH-cam. Many times it has helped me find words or help me towards my own words for what I have been thinking or feeling. Question: Who do you go to first when you need advice and what about them makes them a ideal person to go to?
I love you're videos! and I love these open conversations that you have about mental health, and insecurities, and motives, and all that jazz! I always feel like you're in my brain, and articulating what I'm thinking better than I could!
Yay, new video from Tessa! I love your view on failure. Western culture emphasizes that failure is "bad," just like conflict is bad, just like anger is bad. Learning from your failures and using them as opportunities to grow and change is far more useful a perspective. Can't wait to see May's work :) Thanks for setting a great example of emotional maturity. Far too little of that on TH-cam.
Everyone says you've introduced them to the enneagram of personalities, could you talk about that? Your type and the system in general, maybe your opinions on personality classifications. Pleease it's so interesting!! Also, very glad to have so many videos to look forward to!
That's called a "growth mindset", and it's the best way to approach any goal in life, I think! I've been reading up on it, related to artists and athletes (I'm a roller derby player) and I've found it extremely helpful, especially in dealing with failure. Now, I try to think of it as a stepping stone to reaching that goal, like Lena said in one of her videos, "collecting data". I take a step back analyze why I couldn't do it yet and regroup. Maybe I need more time, a different plan, whatever it is, I can only go up, right?. Super stoked to have so much content from you to look forward to, I always find your videos to be thoughtful, insightful and kind, they make me feel at peace with my brain and all it's emotions.
You are an absolute inspiration, so open, and know who you are. I have been watching since I was in high school, and while some TH-camrs I've stopped watching as I grew u, I am very glad that I have stayed watching you and Nanalew. What advice would you have to live a beautiful, positive, life. ❤❤Thanks so much!
I understand the fear. I wrestle with it too. Welcome back & thanks for sharing, I am looking forward to all the extra content this year. I hope you meet your goal. Because, it would be good for me, good for you, and good for the world.
here are a few questions i have: - what are your thoughts on the relationship between youtubers and viewers? (ie. the boundaries, what 'fans' are entitled to, etc) - opinions on society's obsession with labels? - what do you think about the fact that it's hard to create something 100% original and sometimes you have to 'borrow' ideas from somewhere else?
I'm studying to become a teacher, and our pedagogy professor have a pretty nice motto: "Failing is the best kind of learning. You now know what you shouldn't do."
Some questions: - What makes you feel grateful/appreciative? - What was it like for you to grow from a teenager into a young adult? - Do you have any "peace practices" that work especially well for you (i.e. meditations, sayings/positive affirmations for when you're feeling down, etc.)? - What are some things you learned in school that weren't taught to you? Love from VA, chelsea 🐶
I would really like a part 2 for your ' What is love ' video. You talked about the ways you COULD love someone, so maybe you can talk about knowing HOW you love someone. :)
Here's my question (i guess?): I'm 18, gonna me 19 in July. I know I'm young and I know I have so much time to figure it out and everything, I know that. I get that. But currently I'm in school studying biochemistry. I really do love science and what I'm doing, but I'm constantly afraid of (conveniently themed with this video) is failing. I'm constantly asking myself "If i'm not good at chemistry, what am I good at?" Like I have plans, and milestones i wanna reach by a certain time and I'm constantly worried I'll get thrown off track because you never know what life's gonna throw at you. I guess what I'm asking is what do you do if your dreams fall through?
video every day in may???? oh my goodness, any content from you tessa is such a blessing EDIT: also, my question is: what drives you to keep going on "off-days" and what has your progression of self-care looked like throughout your life? (and today was my birthday!! it was a great present to see your upload)
congrats on one million! and im so proud of how far you've come and however much content you put out, i will gladly watch it, but admittedly if you do more that would be amazing for viewers like me XD
I'm not much of a poet, but I recently wrote one that I call "don't take everything so personally." It goes: "be selective of the things you allow to possess you." So my question is, what in your life possess you? I don't think it's always a necessarily bad thing to have something makes you just lose control. I don't think it's always a negative thing to be overtaken. However, it is important to recognize that you do to need selectively permeable to things you allow to possess you, because you if don't, chances are you'll just end up confused, hurt, and ultimately, submerged.
I loved watching your VEDIF videos so much! The topics you covered were really interesting to think about and I felt like I could relate to a lot of what you said. That advice that Dodie and you got from your therapist--the one about if you check, you'll find usually find something--is something that I took to heart and has been really helpful to me. Honestly, your videos are like therapy to me.They help me to just sit down at the end of the day and unwind while listening and thinking and working through whatever I have on my mind. I always feel more at peace with myself after watching your videos and your voice is also very calming lol if you decided to make a podcast i would jump on that so quick. ANYWAY, a question I have is: how do you tell friends/family/loved ones that you have a mental disorder?
Failing is something in life that everyone does, and if we don't learn from it, it becomes a failure in itself; but even then we learn to learn from it, so it becomes a paradox. Imagine a life with no mistakes, I don't know if that's even possible, because how would we grow. Now if we want to talk about real failure, I think that giving up on ourselves will be the biggest failure. You should never give up, but keep going. If you persue your goals, and keep going and learning when you fail, you will succeed.
Such a cool concept with answering questions! This made me think deeply about what kind of question would be interesting and I could only think of this: emotions. They get the best of us sometimes but, they also allow us to be compassionate and care about others or allow us to become destructive and blind to logic and reason. How can someone have a healthy way of dealing with their own emotions? And how can we decipher when our emotions are getting the best of us or are actually a correct response? For some reason, I feel like you have gotten wiser over the years and I know a lot of young girls watch you so, I thought your insight would be much appreciated ☺️ Long time viewer and first time commenter! Keep up the good work, Tessa 💕
I'm totally like that with keeping goals internal! Sometimes i know they are really far-fetched so i feel like if i share them i might get scoffed at or told I'm dreaming too big :/ like this year I'd really like to hit 5,000 subscribers, but i know it will be more like 1k.
also! a question :^) do you have any tips for when the sound ppl at shows are being difficult to work with? I experience this a lot because i'm pretty young and they ALWAYS make the assumption that I have no idea what I'm doing and are super condescending :^/
Really looking forward to your video every day in may! Here are some questions: How did you handle exam stress as a teenager and what life lessons did you learn from being in school?
woo YEAH MORE Qs ANSWERED

Tessa you are so inspiring. I've been watching you for a long long time and watching you grow as an artist and speaker always makes me smile. Keep doing what makes you happiest.
if you were talented enough you would have made it by now. you're mediocre at best.
Dicks Out For Harambe why would you say that? She’s doing what she loves and I for one thing she’s very talented. You’re spreading negativity for no reason, why would you do that?
Your name is almost like mine and that weirds me out for some reason but I thought it was cool!
This video is aesthetically very pleasing.
I desperately want to know what settings were used. ITS SO CLEAR AND SHARP!
TheIrishWill She probably just used some color corrections in post, and she has a great camera.
Maša Vilar Stupica so true, the background with the chello, the pretty mirror, the fairy lights... love it
I seem to feel this way about every video she makes. Her style is so attractive.
Oh for sure, although I sometimes use a similar setup (I think!) and cant get it anywhere near this clear!

you're just. such a pleasant person to listen to. your videos leave me in a tranquil, contemplative state that i like a lot.
hi, i like your existance.
thank you for existing.
when you try to talk to your crush 😄
"Remember, failing at something is the first step toward being kinda good at it."
- Homer Simpson
I always thought this was Jake the Dog
I just remember it being Homer and his voice is what I hear it in :P
Ok I checked it, turns out Jake did say that. Homer's quote was "trying is the first step towards failure" which is a lot less inspiring xD
HA

Right at the end after the song "Woof" starts (haha...woof...dog) in the mirror.
Quiet a keen eye!!
*desperately starts searching for the dog*
ahhh dog!

I've noticed it before, but especially in this video, seeing your background (which I'm assuming is your room), it's just so beautiful. You have some great style girl, in your room, clothes and hair. It is all fabulous. You are fabulous.
To succeed you first must fail, to do that you must first try. Thats my life motto!
Love this, all of this and your whole channel.
this hair is my everything! also i love the topics you discuss and how intelligently you discuss them. lovely
"Don't let your mistakes be regrets; don't let your failures be defeats."
Fear of failure is definitely something I've been struggling with, and I really needed this video. Thank you Tessa 💛 you're lovely
you're one of the people who has inspired me for years to create. i need to set aside some time to discuss goals with myself, this helped me a lot. can't wait for your daily videos!
Ugh. I needed a Tessa video today ❤️
I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
Thomas A.
What do you think about marriage? Does it ruin relationships, help them, do you think you would commit, what are your overall thoughts?
Fiona Blackmoore yea this!!
i love the way you speak, you're so eloquent and intelligent x
HOLY MOLEY, TESSA. You're production quality is BONKERS.
Yesss a continuation of Leena's lent project is exactly what I need! Question: What is your approach on time-management, how do you get stuff done?
I'm always so happy when you upload and I love you so much~
That room is everything
your room is so gorgeous! I'm nearly speechless, wow
What is a memory (good or bad) that you think truly defined who you are now - your characteristics etc. So much love for your content! xx
I understand the fear. I wrestle with it too. Welcome back & thanks for sharing, I am looking forward to all the extra content this year. I hope you meet your goal. Because, it would be good for me, good for you, and good for the world.
here are a few questions i have:
- what are your thoughts on the relationship between youtubers and viewers? (ie. the boundaries, what 'fans' are entitled to, etc)
- opinions on society's obsession with labels?
- what do you think about the fact that it's hard to create something 100% original and sometimes you have to 'borrow' ideas from somewhere else?
I like pretty much every song from your album and EP, so I'm definitely looking forward to what you release next year
Give me your hair please thank you.
About a movie ikr I'm so jealous
I'm studying to become a teacher, and our pedagogy professor have a pretty nice motto:
"Failing is the best kind of learning. You now know what you shouldn't do."
excellent
Some questions:
- What makes you feel grateful/appreciative?
- What was it like for you to grow from a teenager into a young adult?
- Do you have any "peace practices" that work especially well for you (i.e. meditations, sayings/positive affirmations for when you're feeling down, etc.)?
- What are some things you learned in school that weren't taught to you?
Love from VA,
chelsea 🐶
THIS BACKGROUND IS MY AESTHETIC TO THE MAX
your bedroom is so aestheticlly pleasing i cant
I would really like a part 2 for your ' What is love ' video. You talked about the ways you COULD love someone, so maybe you can talk about knowing HOW you love someone. :)
Here's my question (i guess?):
I'm 18, gonna me 19 in July.
This was such a calm, validating video. Thank you so much for your consistent inspiration, Tessa!!
video every day in may???? oh my goodness, any content from you tessa is such a blessing
EDIT: also, my question is: what drives you to keep going on "off-days" and what has your progression of self-care looked like throughout your life? (and today was my birthday!! it was a great present to see your upload)
So glad your back, you make my day and everyone elses so much better!! Magnificent even 🙂 stay beautiful both physically and mentally as always 😇❤
congrats on one million! and im so proud of how far you've come and however much content you put out, i will gladly watch it, but admittedly if you do more that would be amazing for viewers like me XD
Pausing five seconds in because HOLY COW, WALL ART!!! The background is so flippin pretty
I'm not much of a poet, but I recently wrote one that I call "don't take everything so personally." It goes:
"be selective
of the things you allow
to possess you."
So my question is, what in your life possess you?
This video is aesthetic, hair, and ninja doggo goals.
that opening shot is the most aesthetic thing i've eVER SEEN
Really looking forward to your video every day in may! Here are some questions: How did you handle exam stress as a teenager and what life lessons did you learn from being in school?
hi tessa! my question for you is what is it like to plan a tour?? like what all goes into it?? is stressful, fun, or both? thank you and ily ! x
