  • So you've got a broken bolt? This video is a demonstration of three methods out of the many different methods of removing broken bolts. 1st is using a stud extractor. 2nd broken bolt extractor. 3rd uses a MIG welder and spare hardware to remove the broken bolt.

    Your vid is the only one that stated to tap the extractor into the hole at around the 27 minute mark. Guess what? That is what saved the day for me. I was applying pressure on the extractor to the bolt and it wasn't doing a thing. Used the hammer with light pounding on the extractor, turned counter clockwise and removed the broke stud like butter.
    Thank you for the great vid!!

    If I was looking for someone to extract a rounded off bolt that holds my drive belt tensioner in who would I look for? I've tried pretty much every method but welding because i don't have a tig weld and theres little to no space in the area. It is a completely round e12 that sits in the hidden part of the tensioner ( you have to pull it back to see it).

    Where can I buy the left-handed drill bit set not that bothered about the extractors as I have a decent set just can't find decent left hand drill bits

    • @Abletrot
      @Abletrot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you just search left handed drill bits, the results should have a number of good options. Some of the better brands are Irwin, Cleveland Twist Drill, and Cle-line. But those are not the only ones out there.

    How much will it cost if I bring this problem to the bike/car center?

    • @Abletrot
      @Abletrot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on their experience and cost of labor. A base charge of 35-50 USD per bolt is a common range.

      Google "16023 Stud Extractor" I've used the Titan and Performance Tools brands with great success. They are also sold a many auto parts stores.

    Gee, I figured in Texas they would use a 12 gauge slug and lots of cus words. I am shocked they would resort to using rinky dink tools

    • @Abletrot
      @Abletrot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Who's to say I didn't soften them all up with the 12ga. Honestly I try the fastest and least invasive techniques first, but sometimes it gets to the point where it looks like a shot gun was used then I have to fix it all back to original.

    Much more difficult when the bolt is broken off below the surface and the part is not aluminum but cast iron or steel.

      When ye end mill broke did you replace it or pocket the doh?

    • @Abletrot
      @Abletrot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely right, but sometimes you can build up the bolt by welding it. And in the case of cast iron or steel an oxy fuel torch can be used to blow out the bolt.

    • @Abletrot

      If an end mill breaks it usually shatters and the pieces can be blow out of the hole then I'll give it another try with an end mill before I go to EDM removal.

    i NEED A TOOL TO EXTRACT A HONDA BELT CONTROL MODULE,IT WAS A ALLEN BOLT.

    • @Abletrot
      @Abletrot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes if the hex of the Allen bolt is rounded you can use a Torx bit by tapping it into the rounded hex.
