- Catan Starfarers Duel, the standalone space-themed edition of the classic Catan series, offers an immersive two-player experience. But wait my Catan Starfarers Duel board game review was wrong!
The dice was supposed to be a 1-3 Dice but instead was a 1-6 dice, this fundamentally changed how Starfarers Duel was played and reviewed.

I have always known this was a rebranding of the original Starship Catan from 2001. I was already aware of the production die intending to be 1-3. The blue battle die was originally 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, & 4.
It is nice to see some tweaking of the rules like being able to close off sectors previously visited. Starting with two modules activated is also an upgrade from the original as that version only allowed ONE module of your choice to be activated.
The original was considered my all time favorite two-player game because there was constant interaction with the two players. I am either taking my turn, or I am storytelling the opponent's turn. That was super fun for me and I have introduced many a gamer to Starship Catan with great results. Yes, it was intended to be a 2 hour game and it sounds like this version (like the Catan Starfarers big boy remake) is trying to trim some time off of that two hour gametime. I'm very excited to get my hands on this copy.
Awesome write up thank you. I acknowledge that I have nowhere the knowledge of the original game as you do. But I can see why you loved it so much. For me the length is still not ideal, I would have preferred a 60 minute game. But overall still a lot of fun and great we get another game in the amazing Catan franchise.
I was having the same issue with the game. My solution was to substitute the d6 dices with d4 dices. It added one additional factor of 1 in 4 chance of not producing resources.
I actually don't mind that solution - 75% chance of success I can live with that 👍
The moment I went through all the cards after my first game and realized that nothing produced on a 4,5,6 I wondered what was up. I saw the same things you described as far as length and wondering why I would care about boosters or really even having all my canons during play. Now the loop to get resources makes sense and I imagine the game runs far more smoothly.
Yeah you realise it just doesn't feel right. That was how I felt with this review, it wasn't until someone pointed it out to me with the incorrect dice, and then it all made sense.

My orange die is 1-6 and my blue die is 1-4. This is incorrect, right?
Hey mate, the issue is the orange die is supposed to be 1-3 not 1-6. So just treat your die as 1-2 = 1, 3-4 = 2, 5-6 =3
So.... are they gonna ship free dice to every person who bought a copy? Cause it sure sounds like they should.
If they don't I will be super dissapointed. I literally reviewed an entire game wrong because of this one mistake. As the dice fundamentally changes the game it's so important this gets rectified. I assume all future printings get fixed but there is lots of copies out there like mine.

@@BangersProject I went to all the trouble to find those ridiculous 3 sided dice, but just eventually used the D6 and call the 4,5,6- 1,2,3. Boom, solved.
Plays way way better.
That's exactly what we do now as well. Not sure if I will ever see the replacement dice but for now the d6 with change of numbers works
