- The remade version of Mafia (2002) is here and the police are more than just improved and advanced. While it's not perfect, it is extremely detailed and has been programmed much better than the Mafia III and the original Mafia.

In the original, the police had to actually go to call boxes around the city to call for backup, unlike in DE where everyone seems to have portable radios
I really loved that about the original. Such an incredibly cool little detail because police didn't have portable radios at the time.
even civillians had to do that in Mafia 3, not sure why they can't bring that feature back
Yeah, and there were rumours back in the day, that if you broke all telephone boots, you wouldnt get WANTED level. Not sure if that worked.
@@Oversamma Police started having Portable Radios on the year 1928, game takes place in the 1930s

The police system is pretty impressive from about any open world game I know, and it makes me want to buy the game. Most of my time in Mafia 2 was getting into shootouts with the police anyways,.
@@hanselvogis7301 Yes, but that's just one of the few things not to like about it compared to the many positives.
At least in Mafia 2 you were actually able to bribe the police so they didn't arrest you
You can actually have fun police chases in this game. Unlike GTA 5 where the cops always know where you are, and only want to ram into your rear. It's so annoying to hide in an alley and the entire group of cops run towards you like they have x-ray vision. You can actually evade the maneuvers these cops pull, and do some of your own. Especially satisfying when driving in manual transmission mode.
I prefer the police from GTA IV. In GTA V was just the worse.

@@JohnDonovan1968 You could actually fight the cops in GTA4, and it was super fun. In GTA5, the police easily overwhelm you, and you're more than often discouraged from gaining a five star wanted level.
Sure it's more realistic for the police to easily overwhelm you, but this isn't real life, these are videogames!
Plus, Mafia Police actually seem to care for their surroundings unlike GTA Police. The number of times a member of the LSPD and BCSO has sent me slamming into a bunch of civilians as a result of a rear ender, if you could install a Reality Mod, Weasel News would be broadcasting that everyone from the Chief to the Janitor has been fired due to the large number of casualties resulting from Police Pursuits where it was found that the Police were to blame because of their tactics!

While this police AI is probably one of the best currently, albeit with some flaws, I wish the police actually blew their whistle more while chasing you, instead of only once when caught or re-caught, to add more to the environment and the time period, with the police blowing whistles being iconic for this era.
I think its only when they are chasing you on foot is when they blowing whistles

The death animation at 30:29 was one of the most realistic ones I've ever seen in the game. The way he jerks his leg back as it gets shot, tries to hold himself up with his arm and crumples from there. Amazing

I ever knew that mafia games are maybe better than gta series but i never really cared about it... but now i see that's a masterpiece.
Still a mile deeper than GTA’s terrible wanted system. I really hope Mafia IV takes the wanted systems in the first two games and combines them.
In Mafia 2 I used to crack up when stealing a car out of sight of a cop and then, as the driver tries to steal it back from me, a cop turns the corner and see’s him thus m assuming he’s the criminal trying to steal a car. I drive off with his car while he’s being arrested. It’s just fantastic. I also loved how you could fire a gun in an alley or something and a nearby foot officer would run over to the location of the gunshot to investigate, instead of coming to the players location.
Agree the cops in GTA are just too agressive,probably intended but i'd like Rockstar to give cops a more realistic behaviour. With tickets,warnings,jailtime. Not straight up shooting you in the face if you stand near one for too long.
@@SmokeMyBlunt in my opinion, the most realistic cops in GTA games so far were in GTA 4, but I've heard from an American cop that if you really stood like half meter next to him he can actually take it as dangerous behavior or something..

@@Thomas_Angelo the wanted system in gta 4 is incredible having several variations of tactical forces in addition to the excellent physics of impact in the shootings and it is simply incredible to start a shootout in this game where gradually the police force becomes more difficult the most dangerous pursuits and the most frantic shootings for me the best wanted level system of the gta era HD.

Okay that is sick and a very rare sight in games, making Roadblocks way more effective.
Btw, Lost Heaven is based mostly on Chicago. Though some buildings are NY ones and the Giuliano bridge is now modeled after the Golden gate bridge instead of the Triborough bridge in NYC in the original game.

I was looking forward to this, nice job! I highly appreciate your effort. I agree about the countryside, it's strange. But, what I found odd, is that the police bikes are only seen if chased and never on patrol. Plus the armored truck could have been a fine addetion to 5 stars,. And I find it amusing ho the react to detective cars. I mean, those are undercover, so how should they know?
Lastly, I could be wrong but I remember, in the orginal, the shubert luxe was used after a trip to the country. IN the remake, while seen in the mission, I could have sworn the Shubert six was still in use for a few mission after a trip to the country when I played
Detective cars might have police plates on it, since cities in the United States in real life, in some if not most states, do have police-specific licence plates on them.

More like light-years, great system kinda what I expected in CP2077 boy I was so wrong....commit any crime, one cop will teleport behind you to kill you on sight...1)Kill the cop....ok, now there are 20 more teleporting cops spawning on your ass to kill you and will keep on spawning until you die 2) Run away....yes run away like around the block, they will give up the chase since they don't have any AI to drive the stupid cars....still can't believe I was dumb enough to trust them and preorder, never again!
