Nicely done. I’m actually thinking to have similar thing but put 2 cover panels for rigidity

That would seem to work! It’s now been several year and still works great!

Hi Jack - thanks for this video. Your video is the only one on TH-cam that talks about how to deal with the dishwasher on the end of a countertop. If I have a 25" x 30" cover panel for the end of the countertop, should I still put those metal bars that you showed at 1:08, to support the countertop?

I am so glad you found some value! The cover panel itself will support the countertop. You may consider adding some extra support depending on the type of counter and how much it weighs.

Why don't you have the laminate side down to floor? That panel will need to be replaced as water will run through the seems when mopped

I put clear caulk around the base to make a clean seal

That's really not how it should be done at all. First you have the incorrect cover panel... get a proper 36in x 96in panel and cut to size. Second, you can either back it up with a plywood/osb panel or make a slight box around 3 inches deep to give it some stability and dimension (i.e. approx. 34.75in tall, by NNin deep by 3in wide). Use trim pieces on the 3in wide sides or cut to thickness of plywood/osb panel if you choose that option. Install 1x3 across the top between the 24in space for the dishwasher so the dishwasher clips have something to tie into. Use corner metal brackets on both ends of the interior of the dishwasher space. This will also stabilize the end panel/box. No seams on the outside, stable frame/support for your dishwasher and countertop.

3 years later and no problems. I think you misunderstood the point here. I wanted the seams to match (not have seamless). Additionally, ikea did not offer a cover panel that size at the time (no clue if they do now).
Additionally, the dishwasher attached to the counter just fine with no brackets. I think in a situation you have in your mind your idea works, which is awesome!
My goal here is to spark a creative mindset for people to find what works best for their situation.
I’m glad you have a solution that works for you, this one has worked excellent for me and I wouldn’t change it.
