    Just wanted to say thank you for your very thorough walkthrough. We were just going to get a new dishwasher and had decided to look into how the drain line is supposed to be run since our current dishwasher would no longer drain. Long story short, 2 years ago I had replaced the garbage disposal and thanks to your video, realized I had neglected to remove the plug. We saved 500-1000$ and now have a working dishwasher thanks to you! Keep up the good work and you are appreciated!

    Thanks. I'm looking to install a 24in dishwasher in my apartment and this resolved a good many of my questions that weren't getting answered anywhere else. Most other installation guides out there are really _replacement_ guides, which helped me none when I was looking at a fresh install.
    I'll probably cut in both drain and inlet line holes somewhat close together and do a high loop with the drain line inside my old cabinets. Also need to modify some PVC plumbing in there, but I've got experience in that.

    Nice job on showing this. I’m in the middle of replacing my old dishwasher and came into a major jam. Apparently the flooring in this kitchen has been added to one to many times and the flooring is literally so high that the dishwasher can’t come out and that’s even with screwing the feet adjusters all the way up 😡😡. I guess I’m getting a new flooring in this kitchen as well 😥😥😥

    • @sarahsmith2156
      @sarahsmith2156 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same problem! We have laminate that was installed over the linoleum, blocking in the dishwasher. The guys delivered the new one and couldn't install it! Honestly, we just chipped away just enough of the plank where the feet were to squeeze it out, and the bottom plate of the new dishwasher covers it right up! We plan on doing a remodel someday anyway so not to worried.

    • @llemmon
      @llemmon ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @smash72cutlass30
    @smash72cutlass30 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It’s code to now have the dishwasher cord and plug connected. It also requires a GFCI receptacle. It’s better if the GFCI receptacle is under the sink for better accessibility. Reason for cord and plug is so the dishwasher can be serviced with a line of site electrical disconnect. Tech can now simply unplug unit to service. If GFCI trips for any reason easy to access under sink to reset. In fact all appliances now need to be cord and plug connected including ovens.

    I want to install a new dishwasher but I'm a bit confused. Basically where your stove is sitting is where I want to install my dishwasher. I have a open spot next to my sink, but there is no cabinet or countertop. How do I extend my laminate countertop for this? Do I just install an end panel and cut a piece of countertop? I understand it'll have a small seam but that's ok..

    Hi Adam, are you using that on a 12/2 or 14/2 ?
    My GE dishwasher wants me to hardwire it to the line but I'd rather put a plug on it. I was going to run a 12/2 yellow romex but can not find a 20 amp dishwasher plug for it.. only a 16 gauge/13 amp
    What do you suggest ?

    • @HomeSource
      @HomeSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      12/2 is typical. If you have power behind the dishwasher you can install an outlet then run a plugged cord from the outlet to the dishwasher. You should be able to find cords in the appliance section. Otherwise hardwiring will work just fine too if you don’t want to install an outlet. It’s actually easier that way if you don’t have an outlet currently . Good luck!

      Not sure I completely understand your question, but the flexible water line can run about anywhere. I don't attach it to the wall because it needs to be loose so there's room to move the DW in and out of the opening.

    I'm not an electrician, but a little concerned about the electrical. First of all, who hacked that box into the wall? Good Lord! :-) Secondly, if you're not hard wiring it, that box should be accessible under the sink, preferably with a GFCI outlet, ideally on its own circuit. Otherwise, looks... Functional.

    • @HomeSource
      @HomeSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea who installed that box. It wasn’t me! No need for gfci under there, and pretty sure it doesn’t need to be accessible. Dedicated circuit I agree!

    • @silekiernanphotography

    • @HomeSource

      Yes. The green wire is the ground. You’ll want to make sure that is hooked up. If there isn’t a green wire on the dishwasher there should be a screw inside the metal electrical box you can attach the ground wire to.

      If you have granite or some other type of solid surface tops they make an adhesive backed bracket you can stick under the counter to secure the DW to. If you have laminate/Formica tops any type of screw will work.

    You are so careful and do everything just right, so why are your electrical outlets so sloppy or never finished off, just a big gapping hole? Also, do you always put floor under the dishwasher? My kitchen was built in 1977 and the thick tile floor is up to the dishwasher and the cabinets but they didn't put it under the cabinets. Is that a mistake? IF it leaks, the water won't contact the wooden subfloor because the floor is protecting it? RIght?

    • @HomeSource
      @HomeSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions Pamela. I make sure anything visible looks perfect. However, behind a dishwasher I don't worry about it. The box behind the dishwasher was that way when I found it so I just left it. In 15 years when someone replaces the dishwasher they'll see it, but until then no one will ever be bothered by it.
      I do typically put flooring under dishwashers, or atleast the front foot or so. It's not critical I just want to make sure I don't have any visible gaps. With your tile, I'd say they did it right by going up to the cabinets. Personally I would tile under the front of the diswasher IF there's enough room. Tile and underlayment are pretty thick so they may have done that to ensure the DW would still fit into the hole. I'd say water isn't really a consideration. If you have a leak it won't matter if there's flooring or not, you will have damage regardless. Hope that helps!

    • @pamelahughes8802
      @pamelahughes8802 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomeSource Yes! Thanks so much. I had a huge garbage disposal leak and maybe faucet leak. I hired a handyman who put in disposal but took out everything. I am putting it back together and your info is really helpful. One more question. We discovered that who ever built the house put the electrical plug for garbage disposal behind the dishwasher so we had to pull the electrical cord thru whole and plug behind the dishwasher. Then plug dishwasher under sink. Otherwise we couldn't use switch to turn on garbage disposal. Also no gfi plugs. Would that be hard to fix or should I just assume no one will be down there again for years? Thanks again.

      @HomeSource  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That may vary by manufacturer but I’ve always seen that drain should be as high as possible to avoid having a “belly” in the line where food will build up and cause a clog. The supply can run anywhere.

    31:41 if you don’t have a garbage disposal you can actually connect it to what?

    • @HomeSource

      They make a sink drain tail piece that includes a small fitting for the dishwasher hose. Ask at any hardware state and they should be able to set you up. Good luck!

    I need help, please! I live in an apartment. Old dishwasher was not working. After a week of phone calls, maintenance came out and replaced the dishwasher. There was no water running, but the electric parts of the cycle worked. I did not find this out until 8 pm on a Friday. Monday, maintenance came out. I can hear water running at certain points, and hear it draining, but the dishes are not getting clean. I am not mechanically inclined, but from what I have watched on some videos everything appears to be hooked up. There is some condensation on the inside of the dishwasher, but that is it. Any advice??

      Id check to make sure the shutoff valve on the water line going to the dishwasher is turned on. That’s my best guess.

    • @K.Rammey
      @K.Rammey 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @HomeSource it seems to be connected to the hot water that also goes to the sink. When I turn the know for that, the water in the sink works. Is that the valve that you mean?

    youthink doing it yourself is better than paying 187$ for home depot to do it? I need a new one bc i actidentally broke the thing at the bottom of the washer that spins and washes the dishes...so im looking for a site to buy parts. but it seems easy to install yourself

    • @HomeSource
      @HomeSource  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get a drain pipe with a fitting made to accept the dishwasher drain hose. Anyone working the plumbing department at a home improvement store should be able to show you what you need. Good luck!

    You might have been caught up in the moment because you said you like to lay the refrigerator on it’s back while laying the dishwasher on it’s back🤭😁😁😄😄😄. It’s okay

    Is it just me or does that outlet being so close to the ground make you nervous as well? What if the dishwasher starts leaking and the water gets into the outlet? Maybe I'm paranoid with water hookups...

      Being hardwired is very common and the process is pretty much the same, just be sure you locate and turn off the breaker before you attempt to disconnect the wires!
