Best video I have seen yet on this subject. Thank you for posting!!! People hate reading instructions so a video like this is a great help.

I got a small California Air tools compressor and replaced my pancake compressor. It is very quiet compared. I think there are some other competition now but they make some very quiet small compressors.

When did my inventory after receiving my IKEA (we had it shipped), instead of an X I used the cabinet number. They gave me an order sheet listing all the parts, cabinet by cabinet, with all the components for each cabinet listed together. So if there were 4 lines under Cabinet 1, I marked the items 1-1, 1-2, etc. For repeated items I used a decimal, so if two drawers were on the third line I labeled them 1-3.1 and 1-3.2. This made it much easier to stage the items in my living room in the order I would need them. I had two piles: One was for the cabinets and one was for all the drawers, shelves and fronts, both stacked with the last parts I needed at the bottom and the first parts I needed at the top.

Now that I'm building out my kitchen a few thoughts:
. It took much longer to demo and prep my kitchen, including some flooring, drywall and electrical work, than I realized. I didn't start until we go the IKEA delivered and it sat in my living room for a month.
. The online kitchen planner app is very good for "roughing out" the design. I have a couple of tight spots where it looked the the cabinets would fit but I wasn't sure. The tool was right and my cabinets just barely fit as it showed. The tool didn't allow me to configure all my cabinets the way I wanted, but the IKEA kitchen associate took care of that. We walked in with the online design and the associate got us to an order list in less than two hours.
. We had our cabinets delivered. It was less than a week. It came in three (actually four) shipments. Two were on a truck from a logistics company, the other two were small shipments (3 items and 1 item) than came via FedEx. We had all our stuff in a week. The fourth shipment of a single item was for a cabinet shell that we realized was wrong after checking our list versus the design.
. Brilliance on your part: The workbench of a door on two sawhorses, and the furniture dolly.
. We don't have the space to build all the cabinets then hang them, since all our kitchen stuff is packed in boxes which are in the living and dining room. But building one, hanging one isn't too bad from an efficiency standpoint.
. I'm using a drill driver. For the bolts ("a ton of these little screws") I set the torque adjustment at 1 or 2 and it seated them without overtorquing. For the hanger brackets I'm using 9 or 10 (my torque setting goes up to 23).

Oh, and one more thing you did but didn't explicitly say in this video but is important in my opinion: Build and install all the frames before putting doors and drawers in. It makes them so much easier to handle. We did one set of cabinets a few years ago and built them out including drawers and it was really hard to hang them on the walls with all that extra weight.

All good tips. 👍 Thanks so much for sharing your experience and process. I’m sure it will help others who are about to start their own kitchen.

Jason, at 12:35, were you supposed to check to see if the cabinet was totally square before you put that thin back piece on?

Probably wouldn’t hurt but there really isn’t much adjusting the square of these except maybe on the larger high cabinets.

Hello, I have found your series on IKEA kitchens particularly valuable! Thank you! I do have one question for you.
We are installing an IKEA Kitchen and need advice on flooring. We will be installing LVP over existing engineered hardwood. Flooring before cabinets or after?
We have an island to do as well and the cutouts for the fridge and stove are concerning as the LVP may shift if we have to move the appliances to clean.

Thanks so much for watching. I always like to lay flooring first if possible. It’s way easier than having to cut around afterwards. A good lvp should hold just fine when you move appliances around and it will give a more finished look than cutting around them. Good luck with your project 👍

good tip on building them off the ground. I think im going to try that out, just gotta make sure my door opening is wide enough to bring them into the master bathroom, otherwise, im going to have a bad time lol

Smart move checking ahead of time and a great tip for anyone else thinking of doing this. If it works out for you though your back and knees will thank you. And anytime I can work standing up like this and not on the ground I get the task done in half the time. Good luck to you on your project. 👍

The Harbor Freight furniture dolly is a stroke of genius too.

I have to cut three lower cabinets down to 22 inches from how they come at 24 inches. You are the first video I found that showed the box assembly in enough detail to give me a good idea what I need to account for.
