Great video! I’ve watched and read a bunch about hatching and raising brine shrimp but this is the first video that that mentioned starting with fewer shrimp. I’m on my third try to raise them to adult hood hopefully this time they make it past the third day! Thanks for all the great info.
Just started my first culture it’s nearly 1week old and doing good up to now, I’m just wanting advice how to do a water change and when do you know it’s time to change it. Thanks
Water changes need to be done very carefully with a smaller air line tube so you don’t suck up as many brine shrimp . Also if you suck up a few don’t worry because they will start reproducing on their own around week 3-4 . Just make sure the salt level is similar for the replacement water
Thank you for your comment. To answer your question I get natural light from a nearby window . As far as heat I live in AZ and my house never gets colder than 73degrees . If you keep the temperature in the mid 70's you don't need to add heat .
love the video, i've hatched brine shrimp before but never tried to raise them. like your method, seems pretty simple. i notice the grow-out tank is only filled 4" or 5", could you fill more and raise more shrimp?
I’ve learned over hundreds of attempts to start off small with brine shrimp. The more you try to do the faster they crash and you lose all of them . It’s better to do several Hatches at the same time then to try to load them all in one
@@MichaelEugenio hey michael, that makes sense. i've got some new hatched bbs this am, i'll stick them in a 5 gal bucket and see how they do. thanks for your info, appreciate it.

Hi Michael, great vids. I had follow your journey recently. I've started my own culture, but I'm having trouble to keep my bbs alive to adulthood. Been feeding them spirulina and sustain them with air pump. But around the 3-4th day they died. Any idea on how i can improve?
@@jasoncamacho4855 apparently i solve the problem. Brine shrimp are unable tu sustain in strong current. I reduce the aeration of my pump supply. And they mnage to pass 5weeks now. To answer your question, i gave then 1/3 of tea spoon of spirulina every 3 days.
Hi. I have tried to hatch bbs and then put them in a big jar with salt water, give them food (spirulina powder) and also attach airline for oxigen, but none survive beyond the 3rd day.. I put them outside my house (I'm in Malaysia, the temperature is 26c to 30c). I have also tried in another jar with the hatched bbs, without airline, food provided also. This jar is put in my house with constant temperature in a room. But still can't live beyond 3rd day. Please may I know what have you done differently to keep them survived.
Sean Tan the thing that worked best for me it to start with a very small amount of brine shrimp . When you start with a large quantity they tend to crash the system. Try smaller amounts . I hope this helps
@@MichaelEugenio thanks you Michael. Yeap and only feed on the 3rd day, coz I read all your replies here =) So you didn't use any filter as I can't see them in the video. They aren't needed for the survival of bbs right?
@Michael Eugenio, so I have tried to transfer small amount of hatched bbs to a bigger pot with airline, waited to feed them on the 3rd day since they hatched. But on the 2nd day half of them couldn't survive. And on 3rd day almost all died. Please could you tell where gone wrong?
Sean Tan are you using an air stone ? If so do not . You want big bubbles . The small bubbles get stuck to the shrimp and kills them some how . Can you put up a video of the set up so I can look at it ? Thanks
Hi Michael. I do use airstone with very small volume of air inflow. I tried air line without airstone too. None of them work. And I noticed the water become smelly on the 2nd - 3rd day and it's getting more stinky day by day I guess due to the dead shrimps.. But some said I shouldn't let it smell bcoz that indicates the water quality is low.. What kind of water are you using? I used aged water (tap water with sunlight for 3days or more), and 500ml with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt. Planned to feed Spirulina to bbs on 3rd day but they never lived past the 3rd day
Do the BS need light? Or is the room light sufficient? Also what temp do you keep them in? I ask as I live NZ and winter can get a bit cold. Thanks kelly
Hi, that was helpful. Few questions, what salt do you use when you change your water? How much salt do you put in to the new water? Is that 1 tablespoon per litre or? Thanks
I use instant ocean . It's the same salt I use in my reef tank . I don't measure it by tablespoon . I use an instant ocean refractometer and set the salt level to 1.025 to match my reef tank
We all know what a net looks like! Could you talk more about the water change you do every 4 to 6 weeks? Salt concentration? Do you replace evaporated water? If so with what, DI water?
I make sure to keep the salt level similar to my reef tank . When it evaporates I add fresh RODI water to keep it at the same level . I also use water change water for the brine shrimp so I’m not always making water for these setups . I hope this helps .
I'm doing my first brine shrimp grow out tank. I took about 75% of the brine shrimp from my first hatch and fed them to my fish. What was left I put in a 3 gallon tank. I feed them every two days a pinch of spirulina powder. They are fine but they are not adult size like yours. They are only about twice the size they were when they were born..what am I doing wrong?
Thank u for ur video, i need ur information to keep them alive. At the beginning 3 straws BS how many ml that u use? And after 3 days, when we start feeding them how many times per day? And how many gram spirulina powder that u give? Once again i really thank u & wish can get ur answer.
Is there a name for the freshwater species of brine shrimp? Or are they the same thing? Everything I've read lately about them seem to originate from salt water, but I used to find these all the time in small freshwater creeks in Tennessee.
wow.. mine just keep dying after the 2nd day. but my water is a little cloudy, maybe I added too much salt? how much salt did you add per litre or quart? I add 1.5 table spoon per liter of water. your water looks clear, my water looks cloudy after 24 hours when the eggs hatch.
I use instant ocean salt so I can regulate salinity very easy . It usually measures 1.025 . I do that because that's what I keep my reef tank at and when I feed them they don't die right away from shock.
@@MichaelEugenio Thank you for the video, what would help us is if you can give us a ballpark figure of tablespoons of salt to the amount of water. We don’t have some of the equipment you do
