- Andrew Luck was hailed as a future Hall of Famer before he ever took an NFL snap, but his career only lasted 94 starts before he shockingly called it quits at the age of 29. While Luck never became the destroyer of worlds people thought he would be, he was still a damn good QB when healthy. He was the ultra rare player who could be described both as great and a disappointment. This video examines his complicated legacy.

To add on to that, his marriage was starting to get a little bit rocky. The injuries and the constant development that’s required to become an elite level quarterback caused friction with Andrew’s wife Nicole. Ultimately, Andrew picked his marriage over his NFL career. I think that’s admirable. Other people may not see it that way but that’s fine.
Luck's display of extreme intelligence was his sagacious decision to retire when he did. When taken in context the smartest play by a QB maybe ever.

Who also played on a shitty team for a coach notorious for not caring about player's health and didn't want him. Both qbs would've fared better if not for the ineptitude of Ryan Pace and Bruce Allen. Rg3 needed a new Orleans style offense and a muzzle for all those inspiring quotes and Luck shouldve gone to a team with an offense that used a lot of shotgun bc his vision was insane but he still threw high

Ryan Grigson is probably one of if not the worst gm in history. He only hit in his picks of Luck and TY and whiffed on all the other ones. In addition to trading a first rounder for Trent Richardson and whiffing on almost every free agent signing he had.

When Luck was drafted there was so much hoopla. He had to do so many interviews. In several it was easy to see he was upset by certain things: like the way the owner treated Peyton Manning, who put the team on the map, and, literally broke his neck for the team. One interview was at a sports bar full of Colts memorabilia (and Manning pics). The fans were all over Luck said something like it will be hard to replace Peyton and the fans were like ahh forget him. You could see in Lucks eyes this was distressing for him.He learned straight out the gate he was just a piece of meat to the team and the fans. They made it easy to do what he did. You compared him to Mahomes; what if Luck was drafted by Andy Reid? Whole different story.
The fans never forgot what manning did for the colts that bs, Maybe some but Indianapolis was upset over getting rid of manning over luck the analysis were the ones saying that no one still I 100% agree Jim irsay made the wrong decision

Great video, Barry. As a Colts fan I completely agree, he was both great and disappointing, but I absolutely loved him as our QB. He really carried the Colts throughout the Grigson - Pagano era, but I’m not sure anyone could have overcome their ineptitude... except Tom Brady’s luck and will to win of course
When it came to the playoffs, that man was a beast. Got a couple post season W’s under his belt in his career. I’m glad I got to watch Andrew Luck during his whole career. He was a treat to watch.

It’s sad how his career ended. I love that dude. He is so pure, so kind, so funny, so nice. A great guy. If he had a better team around him…I really think he would’ve won some Super Bowls and MVPs and made it into the HoF. But I feel like his cultural impact should get him a Golden Jacket and a shrine in Canton. We will never see a guy as nice and honorable as Luck ever again. He made the entire nation fall in love with him. Guy is a legend to me. Really hope he becomes an announcer one day.
As a Colts fan I literally refused to watch this for days lol. I miss him as our QB so much. Wish we would've kept Arians and got rid of Grigson and Pagano stupid asses. They ruined a H.O.F career no other way to say it.

2014: Jack Mewhort, Donte Moncrief, Jonathan Newsome, Andrew Jackson (how is drafting a former president that's been dead for 175 years smart? - sorry, couldn't help it), Ulrick John (FYI, they traded their first found pick in this draft for Trent Richardson - really - and if they kept that pick could have selected 3 time pro bowl tackle Joel Bitonio)
2015: Phillip Dorsett, D'Joun Smith, Henry Anderson, Clayton Geathers, David Parry, John Robinson, Amarlo Herrera, Denzelle Good
What's incredible about all these picks is that only one player (Geathers) lasted more than 4 season on the Colts and there were zero pro bowlers. I mentioned offensive lineman the Colts could have selected (a gigantic weakness for the Colts Luck's first couple years in the league), but here's who else the Colts could have selected (within 5 picks after their selection): Xavier Rhodes, DeAndre Hopkins, Jarvis Landry, Trai Turner, Landon Collins, and Tyler Lockett. The Colts drafted one of the most highly touted quarterback prospects ever and then proceeded to light three consecutive drafts on fire. In Barry's Drew Brees video, he talks about how incredible the Saints 2006 draft was the year they signed Brees. This is huge for any quarterback. It's a team sport and for most of Andrew Luck's career, the Colts strategy was "Bail us out, Andrew Luck."

What I learned from this video is that in addition to Luck not having an O line for most of his career, the Colts defense was a massive letdown.
I feel like Patrick Mahomes is a juiced up Andrew Luck skill-set wise. They are both not fast, but smart runners. Both have super talented arms. Both are very smart, and prone to stupid interceptions.
He was on his way to a hof career.

I don't know what people are talking about. He most definitely was on his way. I'm pretty sure he has the most yards and most tds out of any player in nfl history in 86 games. (he only played 86 games). Plus took teams without an oline, trash a defense, below average run game and average receiving core to the afc championship and playoffs constantly. Also had the largest comeback in playoff history at one point.
I put the blame squarely at the owner and management of the Indianapolis Colts for ruining Andrew Luck. They knew damn well he needed help at the o-line and more wide receivers. Teams have this awful mentality that a great QB will fix all the teams problems when the team is being held up by bublegum and denile.

2012 draft is tragic. Andrew Luck's early retirement, RG3's electric rookie year ending in irreparable catastrophe, Russell Wilson currently playing himself out of the HOF, and Brandon Weeden. Luck deserved better and the Colts had noone else to blame but themselves. I wish this would have been a lesson to other franchises to invest heavily in protecting your young star QB as early as possible however, Burrow's and Tua's careers may have already been shortened at this point. Bad teams gonna shoot themselves in the foot forever it seems.

Imagine if Indi never fired Jim Caldwell, I'm positive they could have gone to the super bowl again if they kept him playing with Luck. It's a damn shame the new coach was worse and held back Luck from living up to Peyton Mannings legacy.
I doubt Caldwell would have fared much better with Luck than he did in Detroit. Caldwell inherited a Colts team in 2009 that was already a Super Bowl contender and Manning was in his prime. Caldwell's success in Indy was largely because of Manning. Once he went down, the Colts were a legit 2-14 team, not one that was tanking. Caldwell went on to Detroit and inherited another team built to win and they went 0-2 in the playoffs. Caldwell's best coaching is working individually with QB's. He turned Flacco into a Super Bowl winner as Baltimore's quarterbacks coach. But he's just not a head coach and he wouldn't have taken a demotion in Indianapolis. Indy made the right decision to move on from him.

It really stinks that his career was plagued with injuries and that his offensive line was garbage until frank reich became coach. The season after he quit the colts had one of the best O lines in the league but throughout his career they could not protect him.
I'm gonna open myself up for mockery. With proper support, Luck could've been better than Brady and Peyton. He was simply that much better of an arm. The only person I've seen more comfortable throwing the ball deep is maybe prime Aaron Rodgers. I'm a casual football watcher, but looking at the throws he was making back at Stanford, Luck was one of those players you could tell was HOF caliber just from watching film. Also Lamar Jackson is overrated, once his legs are shot, his career is over. An arm like Luck's could've played well into his 40s if his coaches and o-line didn't try to give him brain damage every play.

With what the colts roster is now with Jonathan Taylor and Darius Leonard I have no doubt that Andrew luck would’ve won a Super Bowl with them. However if luck stayed who knows what the colts roster would look like. I do think Andrew luck could’ve carved out a career similar to Russell Wilson, where he’s a consistent top 10 QB in the league

They kicked Peyton Manning out the door for Luck. Manning would go to two Super Bowls, win one, team finished with double digit wins every year and he got 3 pro bowls and an MVP. Not saying Peyton would’ve accomplished the same had Indy kept him but looks like Indy lost that trade off.
