Cars are so expensive because people keep getting loans to buy cars they can't really afford. If people were smart enough to understand how much of a scam car loans are, the cars would probably still cost 25% of todays price.
@@ButterfacedBri newer because they last longer as long as you take care of it. Unfortunately most people only want only want a new car because they DONT WANT to have to take care of it.
@@ButterfacedBriI have 2 cars, a nice expensive luxury car, and a 2000 Honda CRV. I bought the expensive car because it had the power and features I wanted, more importantly I could afford to buy it cash.
Eddie, you are the most intelligent, honest, and well-spoken mechanic in the entire lower 48. I'm not sure about Alaska and Hawaii. I purchased my last vehicle brand, spanking new. I was 47 years of age, and now I'm 70 years of age. I hope to pass away quietly at night one day, still owning this same rig. Thank you for all of the excellent content.
Cars are now like fine wine in you have to pick the years, brands, models and individual cars where two similar ones can be good or bad. Example 2016 to 2018 Tahoe or Frontier being generally good while other years of the same vehicle not being as good.
‘Supply Chain Issues’ = Car Manufacturers refused to actually hold inventory of the computer components needed and cancelled their long term contracts with chip manufacturers when COVID hit. Then got a big shock when they were forced to the back of the queue at the chip fabs behind everyone else who didn’t cancel their contracts or saw big price increases in their contracts as they were now a cancellation risk.
I have four 90's GM OBS trucks. Easy to work on and not expensive. I am rebuilding the motor for my 99 Surburban, about 1500.00. Us old school guys know how to work on vehicles and keep them running.
And this is why I will be keeping my old cars as long as I can. My 1995 Corolla and 1992 Subaru SVX are easier to work on and are relatively more reliable than a lot of newer cars (eg Kia engine lawsuit)
The price of cars today is the reason I’m holding on to my three old vehicles a 2000 Honda Accord, 2002 Honda Civic Si and my very reliable 1989 Toyota extended cab pickup with the 4 cylinder. All three vehicles have been very reliable and still going strong. I do all the work on them myself and whatever I can do I’ll take it in to my mechanic. I don’t need all the bells and whistles or fancy gizmos of today that you know will go bad and will be very expensive to repair. An aftermarket radio to play my tunes and have Apple CarPlay and I’m good to go. Heated seats or steering wheel, did not have them back in the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s in my cars and as of today I don’t miss it. I don’t understand what’s going on with car companies today building crap and charging ridiculous prices for cars today. I guess you have to blame the customer for paying the high prices for the crap they sell today. Yep, I’ll just hold on to my old vehicles.
Well you cant blame the people either. People need cars and most people cant buy from private parties because they dont have the full amount of the vehicle to pay all at once. We have to buy what they produce.
@Kevinleehiltonjr Yeah we can lol, don't buy over inflated products, vote with your wallet. It's proven time and time again. The only reason it's like this is because of goverment intervention. These companies wouldn't stay afloat if we didn't bail them out. They wouldn't produce unreliable engines if EPA/CAFE laws weren't so strict. No reason a 4 inch lift with some bigger shocks is worth 15k$ mark up.
hell when my dad paid 4,800 for a 1979 Toyota Corolla station wagon his father and grandmother laughed at him A because it was an imported car while the Cutlass he'd gotten his license in 2.5 years earlier was assembled in Framingham Mass and his dad's monthly car payment was 95.00 a month while his was 125.00 a month the biggest difference was the engine in the Cutlass was a small block 350 CID V8 while the one in the Corolla was 1.6 L 4 Cylinder horsepower & Torque in the Cutlass were 180 and 275 respectively while in the Corolla wagon it was 97 Horsepower and 62 LB-Ft torque car prices naturally increase around 5% per year the average price in Jan 2025 is $49,000 though the next sale coming up is Presidents day weekend mid-February and some cars are known to get pretty good incentives around 15%-20% base line and if you have a low mileage trade in of a same/similar car you could get up to 1/3 of the price of a new model like for ex if my brother wanted to trade in our late maternal grandmothers 05 Camry LE ICE model for a 2025 Camry XLE Hybrid he could get it 22,000 when MSRP is supposed to be 34,000 though the higher trims get slightly lower gas mileage 48 MPG combined compared to 51.5 for the LE
I wish you had more viewers, this is something people not only in America but many other car dependent countries like Canada where I live need to see. I’m just out of high school and I’ve only ever had used cars and fix them in my driveway no matter what needs to be done, I have a motor hoist if I need to pull it out, big socket set, brake flaring tools, an obd scanner and a few others I may need. Even without bringing my cars to shops I’ve been noticing just how expensive the parts are and I can’t fathom paying labor on top like other people do. The vast majority of people could do without these expenses if only there were alternatives of getting around
This is why I’m keeping my 20 year old car rolling down the road. I own it no car payments cheap insurance and the car parts are cheap as well. I looked at new cars and my god I almost fell over seeing the prices and the parts are ridiculously expensive.
You really can't anymore. All the cars being sold privately are the ones in such high mileage or bad shape that the dealership isn't interested in flipping / selling them. Most likely scenario is you pay 5-7k for a Ford with > 250,000 miles on it and then the rando you bought it from tells you that you're out of luck when it dies a month later.
Every new model getting more expensive, even same powertrain. In South East Asia, new Japanese cars are so expensive, Chinese EV destroy the competition.
Just want to add at the beginning, we just bought an extremely mechanically good condition 1999 Land Cruiser for $5k These last insanely long and aren’t too expensive yet.
The better question is why are most cars so crappy? You used to actually get what you pay for, but now a lot of vehicles are flat out scams from mile 1. Stick with hinda, toyota, mazda and some older fords and chevys, back when they made them worth having. Even nissans are toast now with the pos CVT transmission that WILL go out on you. Kias and hyundais littlerally burst into flames thanks to the crappy GDI engines that will fail in one way or another. You shouldn't ven keep one in your garage cause it can burn it down. Same with teslas, pule of crap thats not even considered a car but more along the lines of a piece of tech like a phone, if a tesla vattery goes up you have less than 2 seconds to get out and away from the vehicle or you're Dead! And they can go up in flames anywhere at any time, you leave it parked in your garage overnight charging and you and your family are found as part of the ashes of your home by the fire department. Most cars are JUNK now. For every good model of car to buy there are 5 more pos lemons that aren't worth having even of they pay you to take it! That is why there are no mechanics to be found, nothing worth fixing, its a nightmare!
Kia's and Hyundai's are the best now and are controlling the sedan / SUV markets. Toyota and Honda are struggling with low morale workmanship and serious recalls.
Cars are expensive because people keep buying. Worst of all, most people are taking out high interest loans to buy these cars. Repos are at an all time high, and one the dumb dumbs all bury themselves in debt, car prices will finally come down.
Quarter century old and never owned a vehicle. If you can afford a vehicle today and you choose to get one , you either don't have a choice, are rich enough not to care or you are poorly financially educated and got one regardless of market status.
