      The 1989 launch genesis 3-button controller with the red accented D-pad Arrows & A, B & C buttons is such an awesome fun iconic looking controller. The more comfortable larger batarang form factor in the hands give it the edge over the 6 Button too imo. But the D-pad & 3 buttons just don't feel as snappy or intuitive to use. Then again, maybe the silicone membrane replacement buttons that i ordered aren't up to snuff compared to the quality of what Console5 is selling.
      Nobody else that i know of selling them, so getting the proper feel of it's D-pad and buttons isn't happening unless you're maybe buying one sealed in a box.

    I ordered two wireless versions, but returned them due to them not working correctly on Hakchi-hacked mini. The 8 button wireless pads Retro-Bit put out earlier worked perfectly, but due to bad part availability they stopped making them. Managed to source two 'version 1' wireless 8-button pads from an independent shop that still had a couple. Very glad I found those still.

      Interesting, I've not had any issues with them. I have had to return an 8bitdo controller because the battery died on the second week of using it. They were very good at sending a replacement though.

      @@RetroGamerBoy I thought about those as well, but I liked the concept of modern, officially licensed Sega controllers, so I went with Retro-bit. I now have four of the wireless 2.4 gHz 'old' Retro-bit 8 button variants and they're alle pretty much okay. One had a bit of a waek tolerance on the shell around the right shoulder button, so had to trim that a bit, but now everything's honky-dory. Did you have issues with the Big6 and the mega drive mini? Ik read somewhere that they won't work well with a hacked mini, but do work well on a vanilla mini.

  • @ArtofZenDigital
    @ArtofZenDigital ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This was in depth and superb from a presentation standpoint to a reviewing standpoint. The original Sega pad did feel pretty rigid. The 6 button pad was an important release for Sega players, but, growing up, my hands simply had trouble with the smaller form factor of the original 6 button pad. It was better than the original 3 button pad in every way except size. The Saturn pad, to this day, even with my oversized hands, is the best retro pad for me. Playing 2D fighters on the rolling D-pad feels perfect. Everything feels just right, which is something that was hard to say about the original Sega Genesis pad. This Big 6 pad seems like it’s in a good place, and it looks like it’s bigger than the Saturn S Pad, but with its improved D pad. It’s strange that the wired pad is missing L and R shoulder buttons, which limits it from being used with certain games. It’s also nice to see that the wireless pad comes with a Genesis wireless receiver, as well as a USB receiver.

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think there were any official games released on the MD/Genesis that used L&R. The original 6 button pad only had the mode button on the right shoulder.

      Just got mine today and it's a bit of a let down, mainly because of the awkward placement and indented Start button. Every time i go to press it just feels weird and the middle of my thumb ends up rubbing against the top face buttons. They Should of placed it in the middle of the controller just like the 6 button. Stupid decision on their end, but I guess they wanted to stay more faihful to the original design. Plus, the D-pad isn't quite as reliable as the 6-button's either. Yup. RB's 6 button pad is still the definitive genesis controller imo. There's nothing really to improve on other than it's boring nearly all black aesthetic.
      I'd still rather use the Big6 over the original 1989 red accented 3 button genesis controller just because it's D-pad feels too hard and ridged. 2nd 3-button(White accents) variant that released in 91 was it? improved the D-pad a little, but it's still not as good as the Big6's. I hear the 3rd 3 button that launched in 1993 has a d-pad that's closer to the 6 button pad, so that's probably the one you want to check out.
      But even then, you can't get quality '3-button' console5-tier silicone button membrane replacements to make the buttons feel brand new again. As is, the A, B & C buttons will feel a bit sloppy Vs the snapper more tactile premium face buttons of both the 6 button and big 6.

  • @Pumpkinhead77

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup I've just tried it with both the wired and wireless controller and it works. For anyone reading this you need to hold A on the title screen and press up, down, left, right, start. This will give you the level select screen.

    This is what the 6-button Mega Drive controller should look like in the first place, not like a small boomerang.
    This new controller from Retro-bit Big6 is a copy of the very rare Majesco MK-1470 that came with the Super Mega Drive 3 by Tec Toy in the late 1990s. (A very limited release in Brazil and North America).
    Regarding this new Big6 controller..., it bothers me that the START button is right above the x-y-z button so that I don't accidentally press it when playing Street Fighter 2 or similar games. They should have left the start button as in the MK-1470 model.
    I love the fact that it works with the PS3.
    This gamepad from Retro-bit is my next purchase :-)
    P.S. I would like that companies like Retro-bit or 8bitdo make a wireless gamepad for the original Xbox.

    I wish Retrobit or 8bitdo would just create a 2.4G wireless Genesis controller that nearly replicates the original look of the 1989 Red accented 3-Button genesis controller, but possibly a bit smaller, with smaller buttons(similar to the 6 button's A, B, C 'and' it's D-pad).
    Instead we keep getting these bland looking black & Grey weirder knock offs that lack character. I'd have to try this one for myself, but so far they've done and incredible job replicating the 6 button genesis controller. Feels premium and super snappy!

    Not really a fan of the original 3 button controller design over the 6 button one. There is also a reason the start button was moved to the centre because it looks way too cramped. It actually reminds me of those cheap turbo controllers from back in the day that added an extra 3 buttons but even they had the sense to move the start button placement. The L and R buttons on the wireless controller also look unusable for extended play. I'll stick with my 8bitdo M30.
