    imagine a game where you have a level like the movie Poseidon, where you have to survive inside a ship turned upside down and you have a few hours for the ship to fill with water, it would be desperate. A great level for an uncharted game hahaha Great simulation

    Nice little fluid simulation with the Niagara system in UE5. It reminds me of what I'm currently thought-boxing, turning it into actual rain. Not the faked rain you get with the regular old camera tricks, but real rain that will really flow down slopes and pool into puddles. Evaporate into steam or become drinking locations for those thirsty enough.

    • @GS-tk1hk
      @GS-tk1hk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      This isn't Niagara, it's a plugin called Fluid Flux. Unless rain is the main feature of your game, I don't think it's feasible to simulate it at the level you're thinking about. Rain is faked in games not because we can't simulate it, but because it's too expensive to do so.

    • @ohhnyx9229
      @ohhnyx9229 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      As GS said, you'd pretty much always want to fake rain since it's just not worth it to simulate. I wanna add that you can even fake everything else you talked about!
      Rain is pretty much homogen, so you could have a simple algorithm that dictates where puddles rise on your landscape (you could even have some kind of wetness map or some parameter in your vertex datas that keeps track of the local water height. You could then simulate water flowing to the lowest points using this map and your heightmap.
      Even evaporation and steam could be built on top of this concept of wetness map. If you really wanna go the extra kilometer, you can partition your world into a 3d grid and have each cell contains its steam density (I think Teardown does that but I'm not sure).
      Anyway, when you're thinking about simulating things for real time apps, it's always a good idea to look at all the alternatives first. I'm sure that the ideas I just talked about (or others like them) would be as convincing as a full simulation if done right!

      Does rdr2 do it?

    • @ohhnyx9229
      @ohhnyx9229 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@lolyankovic6952 the map in rdr2 is almost entirely static, so it's very unlikely there's any kind of simulation for the rain. There may be some kind of "puddle map" that's been premade.
      basically, That would allow the game to interpolate between dry (no map) and max wetness (100% puddle map).
      Could also be another technique, but the point is, I think it's premade, not procedural or simulated.
      Rdr2 does have procedural water displacement, tho. That's when you shoot in the water and the polygons move like a wave, instead of just a texture like in older/ lower budgets games. Still not simulation per say, but the visual result is quite convincing!
      Just realized I'm writing fucking twelve page essays in these comments, sorry about that haha

    Dude! your always a head of me :P
    I just now taught about fluid flux as a awesome simulation to use on the titanic project.
    All i think it needs is some preset standards for how the water flows to small cracks of doors based on the pressure in the filling room.
    And i guess there was airvents that did NOT seal water out pretty well. This also needs to be kind of pre simulated by settings placed on those areas affected.
    I see that Fluid Flux perhaps need some visible settings for the amount of "vertex points" (If that is what would be the right term for the "mesh" simulated in real time.
    It looks to create some very hard 70-90 degree slopes instead of flow smooth and build up. Look from @0:16 to @0:25 and you see what i mean
    I need to get my hads on that project, and buy Fluid Flux 😍😍

      Because this is real time.
      Show me a game from the 2013 era that can simulate currents, collision and vortexes in water - without it being cache-baked and covered with particle systems.
      I never claimed this was state of the art and its not perfect, but the developer has done an incredible job - and for game and real-time technology this is a giant leap.

    I hope the Ps5 and the Xbox Series consoles have the necessary processing power for simulation for things like physics simulations or maybe mass crowd AI. I don't want new games to simply be prettier, I also want them to be more interactive. Immersion arises when all the pieces fall into place.

    I thought most ships had sealed rooms to prevent the spread of water

    not perfect (many glitches, not gravity and fluid as real, etc), but it looks really cool and maybe best in-game water simulation yet.

    I feel bad for the human model in the room. What a nightmare he has to live!

    amazing, interesting, how much resources eat this simulation and can it run consoles?

    I doubt it’s true but I feel like red dead redemption 2 uses these water physics, except they just don’t demonstrate the actual use of the movement.

    what are your specs and fps on this test?

      @hermanjarl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      3070, this is 60 fps.
      But, extremely well optimized so "regular" specs would have no problem in this scene.
