  • This video covers the install of the boos bash plates on an NT 2009 pajero.
    It's reasonably details, so grab a beer and settle in.

    On a side note - GREAT videos. Some of the best Pajero "How-To videos on TH-cam, it's a shame more people don't know about them.

      @@DENMONKEY - well, you at least have an audience AND aftermarket companies in Oz that support the Pajero (Montero Limited as it's called here in the States )... Very little of that in America.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, I don't see much of them coming out of the states but I get some views there. Are they not popular ?

      DENMONKEY - well, it is America after all. ))) Or as they say here, 'Murica!! Jeeps are great of course, super rugged with tons and tons of aftermarket support. Howevr, I have a soft spot for the Pajero myself. Always loved them.
      Hey, do you know of a good site for Wheel Arch flares? Can't seem to find anything... Also, what kind of roof rack is it that you have, Denmonkey?

    • @SashaZvyagin
      @SashaZvyagin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DENMONKEY - as far as Pajeros here - they only made them for a few years and they called it the Montero Limited. I rarely see one. On the plus side, you can get a nice example for $3-5K USD

    Thanks I did get a full set to the transfer case and was very happy with the install, it was one of the first mods I did to the Paj, I have since broken a bolt sand bashing on Fraser Island and did bend the front intercooler plate a little but was repairable
    I used stainless plate that I already had on hand for a bash plate on the rear from my tow bar to the back plastic panel and it passed the Fraser Island test - did get some sand up there but no damage at all

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a bit of a bummer on the pajero in sand. It becomes a bit of a shovel at the back. The boos have saved my bacon more than a few times. That said I'd not go some places without them. I like the confidence they give me to do so. As much as I like a good tough track, I much prefer driving down the less beaten track to see what's at the other end. These let me do that.

    Thanks for another great video. I love that you are showing real world conditions ie: the dog "helping" out as I know that's what my dog does... lol. I agree that the rear bumper bash plate makes sence and I have put one on my list. Cheers. Tim (2010 NT 3.8 Auto Exceed)

      Thanks Tim. They do just know how to get in the way at the worst times. Who else can you rely on to get under the car with you for the day though :)
      Based on some of the feedback I wouldn't do a beach run without it.
      Should manage a camping trip to the beach when its done to test it out. Those passes to get on are just so damned expensive though.

      My nephews go to redhead-blacksmiths and have said they have camped there. I think you get some idiots there so worth keeping your eyes peeled.

    Thanks mate, great info. Just did my intercooler and sump today. Too bad that they don't come with new bolts. My old ones were completely shot so needed to go to Bunnings to get some. Tomorrow I'll put the transmission plate on and hopefully the rear bumper guard. My 2005 model unfortunately has the stock towbar but has the trailer plugs on the left so I'm going to cut the plate and make the cutout symmetrical. Looked into relocating the plugs but the plug bracket is welded on and prefer not to grind and reweld the bracket, see how we go..

    The bolts at 15:40 simply need a long extension (or two, lol) and a swivel-head socket.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went right out and purchased the swivel head thingy after I spoke with them at boo's. They recommended this for the transfer case cover but it was already one.

    Another great realistic "how to" video!. Bash plates are high on my mode list for my NX & you touched on (and some subscribers did as well) bolts breaking off. How would you rate the strength on the hardware supplied?. Any regrets with Boo's? - would you change brands in hindsight?

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ian, mate no regrets with the kit I purchased and it's held up well. The only thing I would do differently and this week depend on your usage, I've managed to bend my front intercooler plate. So If buying now, I would upgrade the front 2 plates to the 4mm ones and have the rest 3mm for weight.
      It may still have bent but I'm going to swap the front 2 out when I can. I've not had any issues with bolts that I can think of that could be attributed to the plates. Upgrading to some nice high tensile would be nice too but not required from my experience.

    Great video mate thanks for sharing, on a side note, your roof cage looks reasonably heavy, I have just purchased at 2017 NX and im apparently limited to 75kg's unless I go through the pain in the arse process of fitting backbones and dropping the ceiling. I can see you have a pair of ordinary racks your cage mounts to. I can't see the rest, obviously your video is about the bash plates not the rack! Any secrets to what you have up top or do you simply minus the weight of the rack and cage make do with what's left over from the standard 75kg's? Thanks mate

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not as heavy as it looks. The caged itself is all aluminum. I can lift it on and off myself no issues. So maybe 20kg ish at a guess. The panel is adding 15 and the water tank 35. So I'm pretty close with everything up there but still under the 75kg I believe. So I'm afraid no secrets from me on that note. The roof racks were on it when I got it but I'm not happy with them annex may change later on.. The just don't lock down as tight as is like them to. I'm going to look at shimming them a little later to see if that works.

    Hi DENMONKEY, how have these 3mm bash plates held up? My NX Pajero is completely stock (hence relatively low) so i am wondering whether 4mm is more appropriate? What has your experience been?

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kev, bloody brilliantly. I've not given them a second thought. they only did the 3mm when I got them, so the 4 wasn't an option but it's not one I've been concerned about knowing what the 3mm have gone through. Yes theyre scratched on the bottoms but there are no real dents or anything to speak of. I give them a quick look now and then just to be sure. If you check out my video here th-cam.com/video/pZtQ8kzADZ4/w-d-xo.html it shows some of the stuff theyve protected me from since installation. With everything else I have on the ol girl, I'd happy with the weight saving of the 3mm and don't really think I need more. At the end of the day, Pajeros arent rock hoppers and I think the 3mm is more than enough for general 4wd and touring duties which is more the pajeros bag.

    Hi Brett, I have a set of boo’s plates and about to drop the nudge bar for an ARB bullbar. Just wondering if you know the size for the two bolts holding the front of intercooler plate? I guess I will need to remove the spacers and replace the bolts to shorter ones like original, but I am not sure. Thanks mate

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Haonan, yes there are spacers on the nudge bar and I know I had them with bolts when I took my nudge bar off. So you won't need them for the bar install. If I recall nothing goes back into those holes from the bull bar. I'm pretty sure anyway. So stress not mate, not required. If I had to guess though, I think M8 or M10.

      @prins2x 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are aftermarket suppliers that bolt on the factory one, mine has them but I'm not sure who made them as the previous owner put them on. I also read somewhere that someone has tested the factory ones and they are apparently pretty strong if using an equaliser strap you might be ok..

    • @DENMONKEY

      good question Tod, depends on where theyre mounted etc. I've not seen an NT with aftermarket recovery points and haven't heard of any sources for them. If you have some info there, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I couldn't tell ya though, but shoot the guys at boos an email and I'm sure they'll be able to let you know pretty quick. theyre good like that
