    Hey @DENMONKEY wondering what your thoughts are on the giant brand battery after a few years. Looking at a good deal on a 140ah giant agm battery fpr my first dual battery set up in the paj.
    Cheers, Dan.

    Hi Denmonkey, I'm in the US and very interested in your hitch setup. What we have available here is generally shite. They all exit way too low for any serious off-road aspirations. Can you please tell me if what you have is a Pajero factory setup or something aftermarket, and if the latter.... what? Thanks!

      Hi Rob,
      Mine is a factory 2 inch hitch set up. I tried a number of ball/hitch options with out much luck. In the end I changed the set up on my van over for an ALKO off road hitch. I did a video on it here th-cam.com/video/VB3h-jrRe94/w-d-xo.html with that in place, I went back to a standard hitch with around an inch drop because this would not fit under the spare wheel.
      That said, whilst it works well for articulation, there still isnt much room between the van hitch and the rear wheel. It's caught my hand twice now whilst unhooking.
      For now I'm going to start opening the rear door when unhooking so that doesnt happen again.
      I'm considering a mchitch as my next option, they get rave reviews here from other pajero owners who tow.

    Hi there, how did you do the bolts that hold the battery down? Was it drilled through? Was it a bolt on the underside? Did you use any locktight etc? Thanks

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey James. They're large eye bolts for through with nuts on the under side of the floor. No locktite they hold in place with the tension of the ratchet strap. Still, not a bad idea.

    What do you think of the Giant brand battery? Just brought a 140ah one to do the same in my Gen 3.

      Hey Mick, been very happy with them. I've got 3 and they all run 24/7 and keep my fridges going , both in the car and caravan.
      I also put some mates onto them, so I know of about 8 or 9 out there including mine and all have been good with no issues.
      Not sure of the other set ups the mates are using exactly but they went into cars and into caravans. Based on that and my personal experience, I have no hesitation in recommending them.

      @@DENMONKEY cheers mate. I've got a 110w solar panel with a Ctek 20ah DC-DC to keep my 140ah battery alive. I will be running a Waeco CD30 draw fridge constantly with the occasional USB, 12v & LED Lights when camping.

      I originally had a 120w on top but found it wasnt quite keeping up if I didnt drive much or it wasnt parked in a good spot for the sun.Like in winter . I wanted to not drive the car for over a week and not worry about it. So I added a second 120w panel to give me the 240 on top. a little over kill but I never had a problem again. then I just switched it out for 1 x 235w. the 100 odd is good enough if you park in direct sun light and during the warmer months but in winter with the sun being lower, I went for a little more. If you're driving plenty to use the alternator, all should be good.

    I am about to do this in my pajero with a dual battery kit and a 160watt solar panel.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do it.
      I think the space is perfect for an aux battery.
      Especially considering there is bugger all space under the hood.
      I've got plans for a second fuel filter soon and I'd be running out of room with a spare battery under there.
      I just stuck a second 120w panel on the roof and whilst it's working great, the wind noise with a panel over my head is a lot more noticeable.
      Might be reconsidering that option, although I did make it removable with an anderson plug.
      With the projecta ID25 the 120w has been plenty to keep the battery topped up with the fridge.

      Just finished. Love it.120 amp/h agm and a 160 w panel regulated by a 20 amp mppt thunder dcdc charger. happy with it .This video it helped a lot cheers :)

      excellent. thanks for posting back and glad it helped. I'd sussed out those thunder chargers. Let me know how it goes. They seem to be well priced. Have you got a fridge in there as well ?

    • @FTW_Wolf
      @FTW_Wolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i got a waeco cfx 40 ltr ready to go that i will throw in the back. i guess try it out for a day or 2 and see how if the 160w can keep it running. im still learning about the thunder as these dc dc chargers are new to me and the book that came with it could be more detailed in some areas. it is ment to be a set and forget system and it has a micro processor that keeps track of charge state and battery type ect. and yes i got it for the price tag. and the mppt solar regulator. minimum input is a reasonable 12.4v before it kicks in.

    • @DENMONKEY

      160 should be plenty. I found with just the 120w on top was good enough to keep it topped up especially during the warmer months with my fridge running 24/7 in the back. I was using a 45L giant fridge but have swapped it over for the waeco 35 for the space saving. I think the waeco is a bit better on the power usage too.
      I just added the 2nd 120w panel but that is so I can run my amatuer radio off it if I want to.
      Have you got a watt meter or volt meter so you can keep an eye on it?
      They can be had off ebay for next to nothing and are handy for knowing how its performing .
      its bloody awesome to be able to pull a cold drink out the back though when ever you want and a fridge is brilliant for camping. forget those stupid eskis
