      Haha we’ve spent a bit of time there in the winter and even camped in a tent there in winter actually so can definitely understand where you’re coming from! We much prefer it when the sun is shining 😀

      @@TheWholeWorldorNothing I haven't been back for years, I am about half way through my van build (just about to build my LiFePO4 battery), then I plan to pop up and visit again.

    First - thanks for replies but no apologies please; you have things happening in life and timetables are there for rearranging!!!
    Second - If you can't live in the Bonny Land, then Yorkshire makes a darned good second &*> (Mind you, Norhumbria fits in there too...)
    Third - fish trivia. The Kipper was invented by a man called John Woodger in 1843.
    John lived in Seahouses, Northumberland and worked as a Fish Monger when one day he left some prepared fish in a room overnight with a smoking stove. He woke the next morning to find he had accidentally invented the kipper. It is specific to the Herring, though. Any smoked Herring can be called a kipper, just as all whole smoked Haddock can be called a 'smokie' - but not all are equal, which is why Arbroath has special status for smokies and Loch Fyne has for kippers... Fun facts for foodie 'Jay'!
    Fourth (okay I'll stop counting!)... micro tours to dig deeper to one's home territory often reveals unexpected and joyful things; and when some of that land is owned, bonus!
    I forage rasp, blackberries and blaeberries (as they are called up here) all locally. Blae/bilberries are not as sweet as the American blueberry with which we are familiar from fruit stalls, but they really pack a punch and make fab jams... perfectly safe, Sarah - as long as you are sure dogs haven't been around!!!
    Now I do hope you have got the batteries sorted out short term and are thinking on re the feedback from insty. Whether sticks'n'bricks or tin on wheels, a home is a home and maintenance will always demand itself. Just stay safe and well and cheerful and (((((Ady))))) from YAM-aunty xx

      That’s an amazing story about the kipper! I wonder how many dishes have been invented completely by accident. So many origin tales about food are similar.
      We really enjoyed the bilberries - heard them called other things too but not blaeberries. Planning on heading back same time next year to pick a proper crop, they were really abundant there.
      We think the batteries are sorted fingers crossed and we’ll be setting them back up tomorrow hopefully 😊
      Anyway thanks for the understanding and we’ll chat soon 🥰

    Love this! Excited to be travelling this area soon. I must be slightly younger than you as for me it was the music at the start of Heartbeat that meant it was time for bed on a Sunday 😂

    💕If you was to cut a wedge into your mums land you could build a long house where all the rooms have windows along the front looking over the valley below you could even have a big deck on stilts in front of it💕The possibilities are endless💕You could even have bedrooms at the back with a closed in courtyard in front of them leading to the front section of windows💕

    • @thewisceeeggg1624
      @thewisceeeggg1624 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds marvelous!
      At the very least, they could cut out a spot to level and have a nice "park up" for free with really beautiful views 👀

      @TheWholeWorldorNothing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were thinking along similar lines as this does sound amazing. We have done a little research since our visit and we now think that the land is likely to be very heavily protected so it’s probably not possible to do anything with it at all. We’re going to contact planning to double check but we’ll definitely head back again either way just for the views and to pick some bilberries 😀

    Not the case last year., but sadly Danby beacon prohibits overnight camping now. It's getting worse.
