As a front man, Gary Cherone is incredibly underrated. He's tireless. His vocal performances are always on point and his stage presence is unrivaled. One of the last true showman.
@@DesertDweller1 I was wondering where you were.....that one person who can't resist the urge to be a contrarian PIA. Yes, Cherone has been around for quite some time. Yes, he has been heard by millions. However, has he been recognized for his talent with any awards? No. Is he in the Hall of Fame? No. Your contrarian opinion is lacking in merit and objective substantiation. Would you care to try again?
@@KittyKittyBoomBoom It was already terminal when he took the job. No one could have fronted the band after DLR & SH and reinvented Van Halen. The brothers were too strongly aligned to keep it a family affair.
Gary Cherone was such a great lead man for Van Halen. He could sing all their songs from both eras of Van Halen with no issues and had such great energy for the band. It's such a shame that their album with him just didn't fare well and I think it was just misunderstood. But with the critics just slamming it that was pretty much it for that version of the band. They couldn't recover for that. That's not to say it was their greatest but imagine what the follow-up might have been like if they actually had recorded it. Maybe that would have turned them around. But, even so, they could have continued to tour with Gary and I don't think anyone would have minded. And for those who have posted that it was terrible, etc., etc. that is fine because Music at the end of the day is subjective. What one person likes another doesn't as in the case of Gary Cherone. But with Gary at lead vocals it wouldn't sound like Sammy or Dave and maybe that's what Alex & Eddie wanted. Much like when Ray Wilson was brought to replace Phil Collins in Genesis the fans exploded. I actually think it's a great album in its own right as long as you don't compare it to Phil Collins. But once you do that you're going to think it's a horrible album because it doesn't sound like Phil and I think that's what they were trying to do anyway. Let's see the Comments fly on this with "I hate it or I like it". But does it really matter if you think VHIII is bad or Calling All Stations is bad and someone else enjoys it? No, it doesn't because it's only each person's opinion.
If Gary had stayed in Van Halen. I do believe they would have made that Van Halen record that would have been great. I don't believe VH3 was a bad album. At that time, in the music world, bands were playing around with their sound.
I saw VH with Cherone and while I am a big Sammy fan, he did a great job. Unfortunately Grunge/Modern Rock destroyed the business as we knew it. Eddie was cleaning himself up but it was already too late.
Dave : "I'm great, I sing only my own songs" Sammy : "I'm better, I sing my own songs as well as Dave's" Gary : " what's with you guys? I sing my own songs and I can also the songs of you two as well" 😆🤣
I think Gary did an awesome job in Van Halen but as far as I'm concerned I would have listened no matter who the front man or woman was because I love Van Halen and always will.
Remember, this tour isn't just going to be VH songs, Sammy has his own catalog plus some Zeppelin will be played as well. Also, you never know who might sit in for a few songs....I can see Nuno and Gary showing up on a few gigs if they are not busy.
No, Nuno does not even come anywhere close, but at least he doesn't hurt my ears like Satriani. It's probably only Wolf that can come close to Eddie, unless there are some unknown guy out there who has been practicing doing Eddie 8 hours each day the last 20 years.
One Thing David LeeRoth said in an interview that explains a big difference between him and Sammy days is Dave said he didnt do love touchy songs. And he compared this song to Sammys What is Love LOL
This is true; I prefer Roth's lyrics. Sammy writes far more conventionally of love; whereas for Dave "love" is a four letter word (which it is of course).
True fans still own it but don’t really like it a whole lot. lol. My least favorite album from VH for sure. Fire in the Hole was cool. That was fun but only the King sounds like the King. Nuno is cool as hell and great in his own right though.
@@mikeprice1702 To me they were just kind of out of gas by 1998 and VH111. They really didn’t do much after 1995 imo. The original line up was best too.
Nuno is a big influence for me as im a professional guitarist as well. Im not tring to be disrespectful or rude, but Gary is an absolute embarrassment. Same as DLR. Its really bad...
I love Nuno loving Eddie, just gotta love it man! RIP Master 🙏🕊️🌹
Nuno have become a legend already.

He did fit, for whatever reason fans just wanted Dave or Sammy.
1000% correct Sir!
You forgot - like Roth, his onstage performance also is incredibly annoying.
He's not underrated, he's been on the scene for decades, he's been heard by millions and they've rated him right where he belongs.

Great tribute to the legend
The crowd chanting EDDIE as the yellow and black came out ... Got me right in the feels.
Congratulations Edward, you have achieved immortality.
monster performance with a VH lead singer that simply killed it all around
Oh......he did kill Van Halen
@@KittyKittyBoomBoom To be fair, Cherone didn't, Eddie and Alex did .. along with the Great Wall of Nirvana!!!

Thanks for sharing - this is absolutely awesome !
We used to sing “eat turkey for lunch” for the chorus. Have no idea why except that we loved to laugh. Great cover!!
RIP Eddie. The goat. Love nuno
Just fantastic… Evh. Forever

Totally disagree
He looks wrong and has poor vocal inflections of VH
Those VH3 songs live with him were better than the record.
@@vinman2362I agree. The album is terribly produced, a complete sonic mess. But the tunes sounded better live.
He was terrible. Get your hearing checked
I think fans just did not want ti accept him....
Long live the 80s 👌🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
1:07 I think Gary's done that song a time or two, Nuno :D
Another good example of how enormously skilled Alex and Eddie were.
Excellent!
What a phantastic tribute to Eddie 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If anyone can cover Eddie and do it justice, it's Nuno. 👏
He crushed this. And the tone sounds great too. Not an Extreme fan but he’s a very underrated guitarist.
The crowd heard one memorable song that night ! 🙏

I loved vh3…it was what i needed at the time
Nuno is a living legend himself
An amazing evening in HH!
He rules this song

Without you & fire in the hole were as good as the very very best Van Hagar. Would've loved to have heard more from Gary VH.
I saw VH with Cherone and while I am a big Sammy fan, he did a great job. Unfortunately Grunge/Modern Rock destroyed the business as we knew it. Eddie was cleaning himself up but it was already too late.
Eddie was unfortunately burned out creatively at that time.
THIS is how we pay tribute to our beloved edward the king.
Great!

Killing the guitar part
Nu onis a great guitarsist, no doubt about that.

Eddie Van Halen ( FOREVER ).
Nuno worships EVH but that’s great you need to to capture the spirit of Ed and he does
Sat Rian’s is doing a fine job with Hagar, but what a dream it would have been to invite Nuno on that tour…..
Yes
F#cking bad ass!
Gary was good live with VH. He was a perfect mix of Dave and Sammy.
I think Gary did an awesome job in Van Halen but as far as I'm concerned I would have listened no matter who the front man or woman was because I love Van Halen and always will.
fuck yeah
V H 3 great album....
Kick ass
Nice
That was fun...
F#ck Yeah!
Nuno is an alright guy... 😊
Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Nuno!!!!!!!!!!
No offense Nuno but you still sounded like yourself. ;) I liked it!
Gary Cherone should've been Van Halen's lead singer after DLR left. He had the perfect voice for them. Amazing range
I prefer Nuno over Satrianie when playing VH songs
Gary is such a putz
RIP EDDIE
Please replace Joe, No comparison
Gary sounds better than Roth live on his last solo tour
The drummer sounds stiff compared to AvH.
Nuno actually sounds just like Eddie - unlike Joe Satriani who just doesn't sound like him at all - Sammy made a mistake with his upcoming tour
Ur delusional. I have heard much better versions at my local guitar store lol

I hate touchy feely songs. More Than Words killed Extreme for me, I just can’t stand it.
I stopped when the tuned down vocals began.
Not bad guys, but there’s no real substitute for real deal Van Halen 🤟 RIP Eddie
Just no.
Why is gary cherone singing in this tribute band ?
Van Halen 3 , the album no true VH fan owns.

I have it. Fire in the Hole and A Year to the Day were good. It was just an odd match of singer to band for me.
It was more of an odd match of producer to the band. I sure hope the songs for the 2nd album that they started with Gary get released at some point.
yeah i just couldn't do it. the hagar albums were a hard enough pill to swallow.
