      Dude... every time I hear "Eruption", my mind imagines this hungry kid named Eddie Van Halen, standing alone in the room of a studio in Hollywood about to make a completely legendary recording that will change the course of guitar playing and music forever... in one take, and he doesn't even know it. It makes me weep almost every time I hear it now.
      If you get a chance, you should listen to the recording of Eruption that they captured through the drum mic's. It is absolutely nothing short of incredible.
      There will never be another Eddie.

      I remember hearing about Yngwie (LA Times article) as if Eddie were being replaced by Yngwie due to the technique and skill Yngwie had over Eddie. Now, all respect to Yngwie - he completely and utterly smokes any guitar player on earth at this point. Eddie however, was REQUIRED for Ynwgie to 'work' ; no Eddie, no Yngwie. Same goes for basically any band post-1978. Put this in thy pipe and smoketh. VH

    Such a banger to start a show.
    It's not really one of their biggest mainstream hits, but it's such a ripping tune to people who like Van Halen and listen to them regularly. Absolute banger. Get the show started off right. Real loud, and real in your face.

  • @DrTomoculus
    @DrTomoculus 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

    I'm listening to Roth's performance, and I'm not sure why people were ragging on it.
    Because for one, he's actually singing the words to the song, and not drifting off, going elsewhere, wandering away, doing all the stuff he used to do. He's actually delivering the song as it is, with very little chatter. He's saving it for specific moments.
    His vibe is different than what it was 40 years ago. Which is absolutely the correct thing to do. To watch a 60+ year old man writhe around shirtless and acting like he's young would be embarrassing, and he knows that. So he calms all that down too. Yeah, the energy kind of suffers without these antics, but he's a respectable adult now. He has his moments, but they're all restrained. He's playing it smart. He's just delivering the song, and what the people want to hear.
    His upper range has actually improved. He's expanded it. Right at the top of his range he had power behind those notes, and I really have not heard him sing that high in his natural voice on stage or recordings. So I do believe he had done some preparation for the tour.
    He's not Sammy Hagar, we all know this technically. But what David has is swing, and rhythm & blues, and Duke Ellington. He's got his own unique delivery. You have no doubt who it is when he's singing. And I don't know, it's just an opinion, but I was kind of impressed by what I heard here.

    This band blew my young teenage mind growing up. I can't think of a BETTER hard rock band in the late 70's.early 80's than VH. Not saying they're the best, but there's not any better. Alex was my fave drummer, Diamond Dave was all show, awesome vocals, the perfect frontman, Michael Anthony was the backbone with Bass and amazing vocals and so criminally underrated (although in a band with Eddie and Dave, it's easy to see why, sadly) and, of course, one of the best guitarists in history.. Eddie...Even now, 40+ years later i can hear a song and sing it word for word, no every drum beat, every guitar riff. Such a huge influence on my life growing up! Thank you all... Spot on. Dave’s voice on the first tour after the reunion was probably the best I’ve heard. He sang very well and was taking his vocals seriously.
      Last tour, he sounded like an alley cat whose paw was trapped in a toaster. No mid range. Either a weird choked scream/shriek or his gravelly low sing-talk thing. He didn’t bother singing like half the lyrics. A huge middle finger to the audience.
