Old video now but one method i used that worked 100% of the time was getting a strainer basket and attaching foam on the sides so it floats. Then place the nem in there with the clownfish for a few days and then move them into the tank. Normally the clowns go into the nem in 10-20 mins but i keep them in there for 3-4 days to make sure they know to go in the nem when i place them in the tank. Another method that worked well for me was scaring the fish. Scare them so they look for a place to hide. They always shot right into the nem after they brushed up on it when they were looking for a place to hide. I also used a scraper but i used a net too. I moved the scraper fast so the fish were actually trying to get away. If i moved it slow like you did, it wont work.
So cool bud!! I've always just put the nem and clowns in a spaghetti strainer. Waited a few days and reintroduced the nem and clowns back into the tank. Has worked 2/2 times so far. I will be trying this very soon again since I'm getting in 2 more clowns this Tuesday.
NICE! Yea, so many techniques people use. I really thought the clowns would take to nem right away, otherwise I would have planned this out better before allowing the nem to anchor down.
Brian's Aquariums and Pets I did the same thing with my Onix Picasso clown put him together at night and in the morning the clown was hosting only swims out wen it's feeding time.
Hahhaa good stuff man... such a great feeling when they finally host. My female hosted first then the male.. never thought about removing fish from tank then reintroducing. Add that to the book of how to make this work 😎🤙🏾
Man, I still smile every time I walk by the tank and see my clowns dancing inside the anemone. I'm a happy camper even if I never added another fish or coral to the tank!
Nice video. I bought a new male clown... 1 day later he started to host my tortch.. the female I had followed him in there the day after. She had been in the same corner of the tank for almost a year. Strange thing I noticed was that it looked like the male encouraged her to follow him in. He always was swimming toward her and would than swim back to the tortch coral. It was awsome to watch the. 😉😉
I’ve been waiting for a year for my 12 year old clown to host in my new system. Glad you were able to get some success. Also, I have to say aneMoNe, not aneNoMe.. 😉
So Iv been trying to have my clowns to host my anemone, I was told to use a video or a pic very skeptic, I waited till all the main lights are off and used a video on here and posted the video outside the tank and the clowns were following the video until one of them finally touched the actual anemone and now he’s all over it
Have to say you are persistent glad it worked out. My clown is hosting my large Duncan and the Duncan doesn't mind at all I'm loving it not something I expected
As you know I have three of those clowns with a BTA but they are away hosting a leather coral instead I will definitely try that technique and another one that is mentioned on the comments below. Great job ReeferGil
I used the basket trick with tank raised clowns and anemone took 3 days for them to jump in. As soon as l saw them inside l released them into the tank and they ignored it. Thanks to your video l just got the net out and pushed them towards it starting with the female and it worked after about 1 min of keeping her next to it then later pushed the male there and now they are sleeping inside as l done this while lights where off. Very helpful video appreciate it a lot!
Hunter, I apologize for the late response. My YT settings were messed up, so I just got this now. I'm absolutely thrilled this worked from someone else. That is AWESOME. Thanks for sharing!
Just added a anemone for my two black ice clowns , played videos of clowns in a anemone on my phone taped phone to the glass and 20 minutes later they were hosting 😀
Wow job well done Gil. Persistence does pay off and I know your frustrations. Mine didn't want anything to do with the three anemones I put in my tank but rather wanted to host my prize frogspawn, were they remain today..grrrr... My next tank I will have to try your method.
I would go anemone first then clownfish in a new build. I think you have better chances that way. And of course they will host your expensive frogspawn, it's just our luck! LOL.
All I had to do was have a small anemone in the tank and then added the fish. If you have fish that wont home to the anemone, try putting the fish in a bucket of tank water with a bubbler for a day or so. They will forget everything they ever knew of your tank. Add them back in and they will be disoriented and go looking around again for a suitable host, find it rehome themselves. Fish dont have long term memory, so confusion of their surroundings can have a significant impact on what they consider their territory or home. Good luck.
Do you know if a clownfish could host a Duncan? Just wandering since I already have one cycled in a newer tank and don't wanna buy an anenome to have it killed from the less cycled water. Thanks!

Technically I did. The sticky feeling you get when touching these is actually the anemone stinging you if I'm correct. They can leave nasty welts on you, but I've never had an issue. I think some people are more sensitive to the sting than others. Good point that I did not mention in the video. Thanks Mike!
I have had an anemone for around 3 or 4 months now, and he hasn’t even grown, please help, I’m probably just going to buy a new one since my current one is not growing
Why would you expect growth after such a short time? Most reefers wish anemone's wouldn't grow large to avoid having them sting neighboring corals. If your conditions are good, it will grow... but in time. Worst thing you can do is try to overfeed it. You will end up killing it. I would not suggest buying a second anemone as you will not have different results. You current anemone will look fabulous.
@@ReeferGil ok so i found out it's a watermelon anemone and they don't really grow, and from what i've heard about them they look just like mine, and yes before reading this i just bought a bta, sorry, but clowns are showing more interest in hosting and it looks very happy, the other anemone is weird, i went on r2r and i found a few threads on watermelon anemones and people for even having them for a year and them not growing, and once i get a qt set up i'll try the method of how you got your clowns to host, my female goes in a shakes for a bit and comes back out, male will look at the anemone but doesn't really go into the anemone or has even tried, anyways, sorry that i bought another one but it does look a lot better than the other one, and the other one is to small for my clowns to host even,

If your conditions are good, it will grow... but in time. Worst thing you can do is try to overfeed it. You will end up killing it. I would not suggest buying a second anemone as you will not have different results. You current anemone will look fabulous.
@@ReeferGil ok so i found out it's a watermelon anemone and they don't really grow, and from what i've heard about them they look just like mine, and yes before reading this i just bought a bta, sorry, but clowns are showing more interest in hosting and it looks very happy, the other anemone is weird, i went on r2r and i found a few threads on watermelon anemones and people for even having them for a year and them not growing, and once i get a qt set up i'll try the method of how you got your clowns to host, my female goes in a shakes for a bit and comes back out, male will look at the anemone but doesn't really go into the anemone or has even tried, anyways, sorry that i bought another one but it does look a lot better than the other one, and the other one is to small for my clowns to host even,
@@greysmans awesome. Sounds like it worked out..
ReeferGil yeah hopefully both clowns will start hosting soon
HOW WERE YOU HOLDING THAT WITHOUT GLOVES??!??
I've held them and touched them before. They don't bother my skin, just feel sticky. On that note, I have seen them irritate the skin of others who have tried the same.
I used a floating basket. I put my anemone in the basket added the pair of clowns and within minutes they were going in.
Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
If you would've told the girl that the anemone was having a 50% sale she would have darted right over there!!
Hahaha... good one. Wish I thought of this during the vid! Thanks!
My clown fish will stay in the anemone when the lights are on, but leaves and stays in the upper corner of the tank at night. Strange creature.
That is pretty funny.
👍👍👍👍 from StinkyDinkyBlinkytheClownfish on TH-cam 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
My clowns hosted my nem and then it moved and now they are just randomly swimming around 🙄
I’m surprised you didn’t use gloves lol
Nah, thanks for the post. I post daily on Instagram if you're interested.
doesn't it hurt to touch an anemone?
No. Just feel touch the jelly candy only.
It’s stated backwards! It’s the anenome that host the clownfish
I have an enemy and an anemone. No Anenomes though.
I just put the anemone in the tank, and 5 min after that the clown fish hosts it lol
How much did you get that anemone? I am not sure if I should get it at Petco or a lfs
They typically go for about $120.00 around the Silicon Valley.
After weeks of not hosting I netted the female and forced her inside. Worked first time.
That's awesome Robert!
