God, this brings back memories. ORD to LAX and back again, twice a year, to my girlfriend's college, 2002 to 2006. There's really nothing like soaring out over the ocean (though that confused the hell out of me the first time, lol) then rounding back and getting a beautiful aerial view of the Grand Canyon. Happiest years of my adult life.
Everything I love about flying summed up in one video. And it doesn't matter if you're sitting up front or right at the back, as long as you have a window seat, the view is worth a million dollars. I'm a content creator from Edinburgh Scotland, but USA is 100% my favourite country to see from 40,000ft. Thanks so much for posting.
Have you noticed the "UAP" (UFO) object that comes into view from under the engine at about 5:56 and goes out of sight under the plane around 6:27 ? It might even be moving below the ocean water below. You should submit it to the 'Paranormal Caught On Camera' TV show on Travel Channel... In the closing credits, they always tell how to contact them to submit videos. If they air it, it could perhaps promote your channel.
Great views of the coastal and interior areas of Los Angeles, including downtown LA further north, the Port of Long Beach and the Queen Mary in 9:06. Also, the sounds of the 787's engines taking off is so relaxing, but I do miss the soothing sounds of the Pratt & Whitney JT9 and the GE CF6 engines on the 787's older sibling, the 767. :)
Thanks for this video. I moved to Baltimore in 2012 originally from Los Angeles myself. This video made me homesick even though I hated earthquakes I still love L.A..

WOWOWOWOWOW!!!! What amazing views!! I just watched the 1997 movie Volcano, in memory of Anne Heche, so LA is fresh on my mind right now. Great views of San Gorgonio Mt!! Looks like you flew right over San Jacinto. That mountain has one of the highest prominences in the Continental US of any mountain. In WA State, we have Rainier and Baker, both of which have very high prominences. They REALLY stand out! Great views of the Mojave Desert!

LA is enormous! You could fit NY, SF, and a few other cities comfortably in it, and in this video you’re not seeing the bulk of the city in the San Fernando Valley, on the other side of the Sant Monica Mountains.
Me to I love leaving Hawaii at night because you get all the city lights! When I was stationed at Tripler I would go out on the Lanai at night and you could sort of get that view because the hospital sits on the hill. But the lights were beautiful.
I just did that same flight last week, the same view, the same turn right in front of the port, but the port had dozens of boats stacked up for miles due to shortages of truck drivers to remove deliveries from the port.

It's once you're way up in the sky when you see and realize how gigantic L.A. really is. It took a while to get from flying over the shoreline by the airport to over the ocean being side by side with the Palos Verdes peninsula, and the aircraft was easily flying 250 mph by then
Never flew a 787 as of yet, but the quietness is just unreal. Anyone older than 45 or so remembers a time when jets were thunderous when they took off. If they flew over a sporting event the announcer might even have to stop speaking until the plane passed over. Now it's at the point where you can barely hear planes taking off. Even massive jets like the a380 are so quiet. Engines have come such a long way.
You were right - the take off from LAX was stunning. Plus the views of Los Angeles were stunning too, on a crystal clear day. Especially the views of Rancho Palos Verdes where my old school friend from the UK lived for several years, plus the views of the Cabrillo Marina yacht moorings and Doubletree Hilton San Pedro where I stayed on my two prior visits to Los Angeles. Great filming.

Must have been a Sunday morning. When I lived in Orange County, the San Gabriels were usually visible on Sunday mornings because of fewer cars on the freeways and less industrial activity. On weekdays (i.e. workdays), solid gray soup...

Looks like they removed that lone “Glomar Explorer” oil tanker that was always visible for years just off the coast. I’m not referring to Port of Los Angeles or Long Beach but you can see the Queen Mary by the tankers in port.

That was highly like one of my jets that I worked(built) I understand that those are 90% bypass engines for fuel efficiency. However my section of the plane build is in the tail section

When I was 12 we flew from LA to Salt Lake. I had a window seat and a decent sense of direction as well as knowledge of SLC being NE of LA. Anyways as we took off and I realized we were heading out over the ocean I became very concerned that I had gotten on the wrong flight because this was absolutely the wrong direction. 🤣
Did you notice that other plane passing beneath you at 24:25? Thing was moving. Of course it seems that way since you were traveling over 400 mph away from it. Another one at 26:44.
ATC does an amazing job at LAX with four runways for the second largest city and the volume. Imagine if the field had six or eight runways when expanded in the 1950’s of only they had room to accommodate and the funding at the time. Kudos to LAX controllers given how busy they always seem to be. Flying into there always made me a bit anxious like the three major NYC airports in tight airspace.
A Spanish pilot told me the same thing, your comment is the second time I hear it. That LAX does an amazing job with 4 runways, he said MAD has 4 also but they use 2 for landing and 2 for takeoffs no matter what. That’s why LAX is the 4th busiest world wide, second nationally.
But 4 parallel runways helps at LAX. They can use all 4 all the time. Many other airpots may have more runways but they can't always use them all the time as they cross each other or are not in the correct direction for the wind.
At 5:54 a little dark shadow comes out from behind the engine nacelle, on the surface of the ocean, moving from left to right as the airplane passes by the Palos Verdes Peninsula. I believe that's the 777's shadow tracking the flight path of the airplane. It can be seen until it passes behind the window frame at 6:20, just before the 10,000 feet chime sounds.
Man, those are the quietest and most efficient engines I've seen so far. On takeoff, after the first engine thrust, I kept waiting for the "2nd gear" when the pitch goes way up till you can't hear it anymore, and it never happened.
@@puerco911 actually, you're incorrect. The FMC is what drives everything, not the Autopilot. "Thr Ref" is what the auto throttle is shooting for. They get that info from the FMC. What else is in the box? There is the NADP 1 or 2 procedure. That procedure tells the box when to go into CLB, CLB 1, and or CLB 2. The pilot has the ability to pick which climb setting all the way up to I think 15,000 feet, then it defaults to CLB power.

The auto-throttles can be on placard (inop due to maint issues), in which case we use the FMC to drive the airspeed indicator bug (a little orange pointer that gives us optimum speed for the conditions). We then adjust the thrust to the power setting that the FMC indicates, and the aircraft pitch to the airspeed bug for climb out. Auto-throttles and autopilots are nice to have, but I have flown entire flights without either of them.
Always the same vector out and hook to the South before turning to points East. Only once did I fly out where he flew out directly to the East. You never see that.
Pretty much every night from maybe 11pm-ish to 6am-ish they operate on what's called an "over ocean" configuration primarily for noise abatement purposes. During this config, everyone takes off and lands to the east.
Yeah, American frequently runs large wide bodies between their major hubs. Before they retired their A330-200’s I even flew one of those on a 45 minute flight between PHL and CLT. I even flew a 777-300 on AA between DFW and MCO.

SCS isn’t an airport code in this video. This is just the takeoff from LAX and the arrival airport, although not shown, is DFW which is in the description. The last portion of every video title, is there for my purposes. It helps me keep everything organized. This is a short clip series episode “SCS” and then the episode number. On my full flight videos, when I show the whole flight, I list the first pair in the title like so “LAX-DFW.” Hope that helps my friend. Thanks for watching!
i got a question guys. if anyone can answer. At the 1:59 minute mark, the engine seems to decrease it's speed noticeable , that kinda bother me. any time i'm on a plane and that happens i think to my self, why are the pilots decreasing speed if we are still going up?
Could be several things, you don't really take off at maximum thrust, that would be horrible for fuel efficiency. The decrease in the engine note could be them going from take off thrust to telling the autopilot to maintain a given speed, once it reaches the desired speed or rate of climb, the extra power is not needed, and the thrust is reduced to only what is needed for the performance desired
The config is Take off thrust to climb thrust - It has already mentioned it`s for several reasons, as fuel efficiency but also noise abatement measurement and not least engine preservement.
For each airport runway there is a designated "engine-out" obstacle-clearance altitude for climb out, at which we would temporarily level off, while retracting the flaps, to accelerate to our 'clean' (flaps up) maneuvering speed, before climbing to a higher altitude to return to the airport for landing (in the event of an engine failure). This eng-out altitude is never lower than 800 feet above the runway elevation, but can be higher depending on obstacles in the departure path (buildings, power lines, hills, etc.). At that eng-out altitude, after a normal takeoff, with all engines operating, we reduce thrust from takeoff power to climb power. This results in a noticeable reduction of engine sound in the main cabin. Cooler exhaust gas temperatures make jet engines last a lot longer, with lower associated maintenance costs. The reason for using takeoff power is to be able to climb from that particular runway to the eng-out altitude, as soon as possible, so higher engine exhaust temperatures are temporarily necessary. All of the data used for takeoff and climb is runway specific -- if we change runways for takeoff, we alter the takeoff/eng-out/climb data for the new runway. Once we're above the eng-out alt, with both engines producing power, we lower the nose to accelerate, retract flaps, and continue climbing, which can be safely done at a lower power setting, resulting in cooler EGTs. Once the airplane is 'clean' (both gear and flaps retracted) we usually accelerate to 250 knots airspeed, which is the speed limit below 10,000 feet above sea level, as previously mentioned. As we pass through 10,000, unless we have an air traffic control assigned 'speed restriction' due to other traffic, the wind noise in the cabin usually increases as we accelerate to our cruise-climb speed (in the 737, 280 -- 310 knots, depending on weight and head- or tail-winds in the climb).

Unlike the the 737 with the winglets to prevent wing tip vortices , the curved wings suave the same purpose. Look up the upward flex of the wings.

Yeah, American frequently runs large wide bodies between their major hubs. Before they retired their A330-200’s I even flew one of those on a 45 minute flight between PHL and CLT. I even flew a 777-300 on AA between DFW and MCO.

SCS isn’t an airport code in this video. This is just the takeoff from LAX and the arrival airport, although not shown, is DFW which is in the description. The last portion of every video title, is there for my purposes. It helps me keep everything organized. This is a short clip series episode “SCS” and then the episode number. On my full flight videos, when I show the whole flight, I list the first pair in the title like so “LAX-DFW.” Hope that helps my friend. Thanks for watching!
i got a question guys. if anyone can answer. At the 1:59 minute mark, the engine seems to decrease it's speed noticeable , that kinda bother me. any time i'm on a plane and that happens i think to my self, why are the pilots decreasing speed if we are still going up?
Could be several things, you don't really take off at maximum thrust, that would be horrible for fuel efficiency. The decrease in the engine note could be them going from take off thrust to telling the autopilot to maintain a given speed, once it reaches the desired speed or rate of climb, the extra power is not needed, and the thrust is reduced to only what is needed for the performance desired
There is a speed limit below 10k feet.
The config is Take off thrust to climb thrust - It has already mentioned it`s for several reasons, as fuel efficiency but also noise abatement measurement and not least engine preservement.
For each airport runway there is a designated "engine-out" obstacle-clearance altitude for climb out, at which we would temporarily level off, while retracting the flaps, to accelerate to our 'clean' (flaps up) maneuvering speed, before climbing to a higher altitude to return to the airport for landing (in the event of an engine failure).
This eng-out altitude is never lower than 800 feet above the runway elevation, but can be higher depending on obstacles in the departure path (buildings, power lines, hills, etc.). At that eng-out altitude, after a normal takeoff, with all engines operating, we reduce thrust from takeoff power to climb power. This results in a noticeable reduction of engine sound in the main cabin.
Cooler exhaust gas temperatures make jet engines last a lot longer, with lower associated maintenance costs. The reason for using takeoff power is to be able to climb from that particular runway to the eng-out altitude, as soon as possible, so higher engine exhaust temperatures are temporarily necessary. All of the data used for takeoff and climb is runway specific -- if we change runways for takeoff, we alter the takeoff/eng-out/climb data for the new runway.
Once we're above the eng-out alt, with both engines producing power, we lower the nose to accelerate, retract flaps, and continue climbing, which can be safely done at a lower power setting, resulting in cooler EGTs. Once the airplane is 'clean' (both gear and flaps retracted) we usually accelerate to 250 knots airspeed, which is the speed limit below 10,000 feet above sea level, as previously mentioned.
As we pass through 10,000, unless we have an air traffic control assigned 'speed restriction' due to other traffic, the wind noise in the cabin usually increases as we accelerate to our cruise-climb speed (in the 737, 280 -- 310 knots, depending on weight and head- or tail-winds in the climb).
