    I am a really nervous flyer but for some reason I really love watching these videos! I love listening to the sounds of the plane and the background talking in the cabin. Im trying to convince myself that this will help with my fear of flying lol.

      Over the years, a lot of people have posted similar things on my videos. Honestly, it’s not something I ever considered people using my videos for. But, if they can help people overcome their fear of flying, that I am thrilled. I really hope they do help!

      Your chances of dying are 1000's times greater driving a car every day. I mean, when you think of how many planes take off and land every day, when was the last airliner crash in the US? I can't even remember one. Lol

      It should. The only real way is to fly. My parents in law never flew.died at 86 and their remains were flown by air to be buried in south Carolina where they were born . They migrated to New York at 25. Rode bus to South Carolina often where old family were still planted. Try short ight first then graduate to longer ones. California Canada then Dubai Philippines Japan. Good luck. Pray too.

    I love how the wing gets unloaded all at once by the uplifting spoilers! Gracely curved and then, istantaneously, the airflow gets deflected and the "magic force" disappears, leaving the action to the rough, intense breaking. Poetry.
    Top quality video, thank you!

    Do not ask me how I got first class on this flight. I got really lucky. That's the only thing I can figure. I have no idea why, but every other flight combination from LAX-MCI through DFW on this particular day was the typical $900-$1,200 one-way for first class. For whatever reason, this particular flight, paired with my next flight was only $221. Economy was $197. So, Obviously I booked first. Trust me, I do not make enough money here on TH-cam, or at my regular job for that matter, to have this type of luxury on a regular basis haha. So, what was a treat for me can now be a treat for you! Enjoy!

    • @kendallterrence
      @kendallterrence 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is a reason you were able to get first class on this flight. Your luck stems from the fact that you were the only person on the flight. In addition....., you were the only booking// someone had to pay for the fuel for this scheduled flight. You won the lottery!! Congrats. The left engine is amazing however. Makes me want pancakes, lol!!!!

    I am absolutely amazed at how quiet the 787 engines are. It seems like all aircraft manufacturers that produce passenger airliners have really improved in this area in recent times. These planes sound so much more quiet for the passengers than planes of the past. I wonder how they have been able to make these engines run so much more quiet than before. I am an engineer and I would be interested to find out. I wonder if they use noise cancellation technology.

    • @MrJojowasaman
      @MrJojowasaman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The newest engines have reduction gearing for the front turbofan and allows the fan blades to operate below the speed of sound, which improves fuel efficiency and perhaps reduces noise as well.

      It’s popular because aviation has a huge following of people who absolutely love flying. And, although the view out the window is what I show most, there are other things in this video. I show the seat, the service, the food that you receive on the flight, everything to do with the flight. So, people can use this video to determine whether or not they want to give American their business. I appreciate you watching, but maybe my channel isn’t the channel for you. This filming and sound quality is really good! Love that silky smooth GEnx sound too. Just a quick pointer, isn't the title supposed to say LAX-ORD instead of ORD-LAX? In the beginning you can see the iconic KLAX tower, takeoff over the Pacific Ocean and then the landing over Dallas/Fort Worth area. My guess is that it was just a simple mistake. Excellent Video....2 questions...1) What do you think the reason is that they go 3-4 miles out over the ocean there, then head due south to almost halfway to SanDiego, then head due east to DFW?...and....2) Have you thought about using the ATC / Pilot conversations during the flight ?? I think I asked you this once before.....

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks my friend. To answer your questions. One of the reasons why they go so far out over the ocean before they make their turn back east is for noise abatement. In fact, I think it is illegal for them to start turns before they pass the shoreline. The second part of that equation is ATC. There’s a lot of traffic moving around Southern California. So, the length of time before they turn back to the east may just be for sequencing. As for adding ATC to the video. I would love to do that. And I have actually looked into doing that. But, unless I can find a better way to gather all of the communications for my flights, it is a huge time investment. The problem is, as far as I’m aware, there is no way to easily find the communications for only your flight. You can easily go online, and listen to air traffic control recordings for any city, approach, departure, center, on any day, etc. But, on a flight like this you would have to find your flight talking to at least seven different controllers in all kinds of places. Los Angeles ground, Los Angeles tower, Los Angeles departure, three or four different ATC centers as it was traveling across the country, DFW approach, DFW tower DFW ground, etc. trying to find all of the ATC communications with this one flight, to then have to splice in to the video at the correct times, would be so time-consuming. And the basic, bottom line, is that I don’t have time to do that for all of the episodes. As much as I would love to, I tried to do it on a couple of flights and it just took way too much time.

      @Steven Strain On this route the VOR at Seal Beach, Ca is the nav point to turn landward. Used to live at Seal Beach, you can see the pier, and the planes would do this all day.

  • @beltrams
    @beltrams ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Was this some kind of reduced power takeoff? The power sounds like it increased sometime after takeoff (rather than the usual decrease) as they passed off shore. That and the takeoff roll was fairly long.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know for sure, but it's very possible. Even fully loaded, a 787 would be pretty light on fuel for such a short flight. That coupled with the good weather and long runway means they very lightly could've performed a derated takeoff.

    I have seen many of these videos but I have to ask because I plead ignorance. Is your phone leaning against the window on it's own or are you holding it with your hand the whole time?? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No stupid questions here my friend. I hold the camera by hand. There are mounts you can buy, like suction cup mounts, but the problem with those is that, engine vibrations can transfer through the plastic window into the mount and then into the lens of the camera. This makes footage look distorted. Holding the camera by hand allows me to hold the camera exactly where I want it, without actually touching the window in any way.

    Do you use a filming device for your iPhone, or is it all handheld?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything on my channel is filmed handheld. I don't use any type of mount when filming. I don't trust mounts for several reasons. First, if there are a lot of vibrations running through the plane, which can happen often when you're dealing with jet engines haha, those vibrations can be transferred directly into the mount. That, in turn, transfers them directly into the camera. It can then make the footage look warped. Imagine the picture looking like the surface of a pond that a rock had just been thrown at. That's what the footage can come out looking like. That to me is unwatchable. By hold the camera by hand I can isolate the camera from the aircraft, which helps create an ultra smooth picture. Plus, my arm is made of fat and muscle, which coincidentally, is a great material to absorb all of those vibrations. The second reasons why I don't use a mount is because you lose a lot of flexibility when filming. For example. Say you're on a morning flight right in the middle of spring. There is condensation and dew all over the aircraft. You set your mount up, get it all locked into the perfect position, you rocket down the runway for takeoff, and suddenly there is a massive stream of water running right across the window in front of where you set your mount up. Too bad at this point, it will take you too long to re-adjust it. By holding the camera you can instantly adjust how your holding it to avoid things like this. Hope that helps!

      Ah yes! I don’t fly first class very often, but boy it’s nice when I do. This was actually a mistake fare I was able to find. The full trip, which consisted of LAX-DFW-MCI was mistakenly listed for like $228. It was only this flight combo, as every other flight combo was the regular $800, $900, or even $1,000 for the same routing. Sometimes airlines make mistakes on their pricing models, and this was one of them. So, I was only able to take this trip because it was a mistake that AA honored 😬. I actually have another trip like this coming up soon. My trip on Dec 7-8 is all first class, including two 777-200’s. It was another mistake fare. Four flights from TUL-MIA and back for only $320. That’s amazing considering coach was $290 for the same flights and all other flights were $900+. Of course, you can reference the last channel update on Patreon to see the exact flights, but I am very much looking forward to that trip 😁.

      Well, I do consider it fun. But it isn’t for no purpose. The purpose is to continue this channel. I fly a lot because I have this channel. If I didn’t, I would not be able to upload 7-10 videos per week. And, believe it or not, nothing that you see on this channel has anything to do with my job. I don’t work for any of the airlines, so I don’t fly for free. And my regular full time job doesn't involve travel. Everything you see posted here is done on my own time, on my own dime. This channel started as a hobby that I would upload my aviation travels to for fun. Now, I upload 7-10 videos per week, and it's really turned into a second job that I lose money on. I don't keep track of my time working on the channel, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's more per week then my regular job. Most of the traveling I do now is solely for this channel. I have 20 flights booked between now and the end of March, and all 20 of them are to make sure I continue to have enough footage to meet my upload schedule. So, I really appreciate everyone taking the time to watch, comment, like, subscribe, etc. A ton of work goes into keeping this channel alive. Hope that helps answer your question my friend.

      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks my friend. I'm glad you enjoy the content I'm able to put out. As for how I fly so much. Well, it's taken a long time for me to get it to work this way, but right now I fly so much because I run this channel. By myself I'll add. And well, when I upload a video every day of the year, that's a lot of flying that has to happen each year. I've run this channel for 8 years now. And for the first 6.5 years I poured pretty much every single disposable dollar I had into flights, just to keep the channel alive. I'm mean, I'm talking I scraped every penny I could into flights. In the last 1.5 years, the channel & Patreon contributions have gotten to the point where they at least pays for the flights I need to take. And some months, I'm actually making a little bit off of it. So, at this point, after 8 years of grinding, the ad revenues are basically allowing me to continue to make new content. But for years, and still some to a point, it was my own disposable income that I poured into everything here. There's no secret formula or anything unfortunately. Just a lot of hard work over the years.
