  • Join us as we continue to share our Irish Road Trip, this time in County Sligo. We'll stay near Collooney, at the fabulous Markree Castle, one of the Romantic Castles of Ireland hotels! We'll share some of the history of the castle and the Cooper family, tour a deluxe room, visit the gardens, and explore the castle and all the incredible things it offers. Come along as we enjoy a gourmet four-course dinner in the elegant dining room (prix fixe for 55 euros per person) and an amazing breakfast, included in your room charge! And we'll meet the" lady" of the castle, Roisin (pronounced "Rosheen"), and visit her private quarters!

Thank you for this excellent review and recommendation. I too am hoping for a castle stay during our upcoming trip to Ireland and this place looks amazing with reasonably priced rooms.

It was totally amazing and the staff was wonderful! You can’t go wrong with Markree Castle! Give our friend Roisin a pet on the head for us, and keep your drinks away from her!🤣Thanks so much for watching!

Thats a great place love going there. Glad you enjoyed Ireland....we stayed back in 2005 looks different now. Is the womans toilet still by reception? Thats where my wife saw Pippa. going back in March with my son. If im not mistaken room 7 was the devils room all the pictures had some sort of devil on it and always went back crooked when straightened... great vid

Thanks so much @friarjoseph! Because we had our own room I didn’t have occasion to look for the women’s toilet, but that may have disappeared with the renovations in 2017. Likewise the Devil’s room- we heard nary a peep about it, nor did we find any mention in our research. Fun to hear such interesting stories! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Hope you’ll stick around for more!

@@unclepick3459 Thanks so much for you support! However, I fear you’ve misinterpreted something -in Chris’s upcoming video on Driving in Ireland he warns me about speeding while I’m behind the wheel, perhaps in Sligo…😉

We just snagged 2 nights at Castle Markee in Sept 2024. What is the tip procedure there? We are following part of your itinerary and love your adventures.

@JamieWynn thank you so much for your kind words and comment! You will love Markree Castle! We had trouble remembering exactly what we did there with regards to tipping, so, not wanting to steer you wrong, I contacted Alexandra at Markree. She said that you are more than welcome to leave tips for the staff after dinner or on checkout in the castle reception. Just a reminder - customary tipping for outstanding service in Ireland is 10-15%, not the typical 20% for above average service that it is here in the states. Enjoy your stay and give Roisin a pat on the head for us!❤️

Not an espert but that is a cypress tree ,yes its one tree those trunks are stems from the main trunk which is underground.I am not familiar with that tree ,though i live only a few miles away and i have been there a couple of times however there is another similar tree not far away in lough key forest park that i know fairlyn well it looks like a small grove of trees but its actually one tree

Thank you so much for letting us know! We don’t have cypress trees where we live and it’s amazing that it’s ONE tree! Ireland was so beautiful and everyone we met was so kind and friendly!

@@thissecondhalfadventure I think they call them cedars in america which is where that particular tree is from, its not native to ireland anyway

Thank you gallo glass2. Your comment inspired me to dig a little deeper. I believe you are correct. I read a couple of articles about the Western Red Cedar which comes from the western part of the U.S. (northwest actually) and planted in Ireland.
