After watching this a few times, I think Sombra fear spell did work, but Luna's greatest fear was becoming Nightmare Moon. Seeing the glyphs she was already trying to isolate her negative feelings by mental magic, when she really should've confronted the situation and talked to Celestia about her loneliness and jealousy. They both knew Luna was falling into the dark side, but neither had the courage to truly deal with the situation directly.
Sombra's spell just brought to the surface what was already simmering below, Luna's jealousy of Equestria pony's admiration of Tia's sun & glory instead of Luna's night vigilance and efforts to protect the citizen's mental health.
It reminds me of Anakin Skywalker's tragedy...

I feel like Sombra got it wrong. Celestia’s biggest fear wasn’t her sister. Her biggest fear was Luna turning into Nightmare Moon, because she knew that if that happened, then she would end up losing Luna for a 1000 years or possibly more. She didn’t want Luna to turn into Nightmare Moon, because she was afraid that she would lose her.
P.S: I love how absolutely savage Luna was to Sombra during her speech.

Remember Sombra is master of mind games and Luna herself said that he only held a fraction of the power she stood unyielding against each and every night, Sombra's biggest weakness is that he can only highlight the fear that he can see in each pony. so he indeed was right. Celestia had a vague image of what Luna would become, and in her sombra powered chaotic mind she only saw Luna. Luna also knew what she would become when she said "she does not fear ME"

I wondered the same thing. Perhaps then, Sombra was too afraid to ever tell the truth when he saw that Luna was still alive a thousand years later.
I very vaguely remember watching this when I was a child, dear lord I am so glad I decided to watch this again, after these 7 years. This is a timeless classic in the fandom tbh.

I like the idea that Luna hides this side of her from her sister because she's never fully accepted the fact Luna's fully capable and has control over it. Either it's cause Celestia had a hard time accepting her sister can take care of herself now, or she truly feared her sister like Sombra predicted.
Also, it makes sense that Sombra banished the empire out of fear himself. Maybe that part had nothing to do with his hatred, but because of seeing what Luna truly was and noped the hell out.

sombra actually has a point. had luna and sombra ruled equestria together, their raw strength could have easily warded off any foe and luna wouldn’t have the trauma she does in the show currently.

Luna proves to be stronger than Sombra. Even though she did let her jealousy get the best of her because everyone favored her sister over her and turned into Nightmare Moon, at least she will always be by her sister's side

Easy This is a Fan animation, and the fans know how they want the characters to sound.
Rewatching this now.
My thought at first was "celestia seems more the type for swords, and luna more the type for a battleaxe"
But then I realized that's a halberd, not an axe, which is fitting for a royal of her status. And luna's swords seem to keep up with her agile and elegant, and powerful attack strategy. Also her magic was reminiscent of Weiss Schnee's glyphs in RWBY. But done in an interesting way that also seemed to fit luna's strategy.
Nightmare Moon would wield a scythe for sure, though. I can see luna using it as well, since it's a very effective tool of harvest and she is the protector of dreams and the night. I can see her needing to "harvest" nightmares to give her subjects sweet dreams.
And I've always seen Sombra as the type for spears/lances (e.g. - Xaldin, from Kingdom Hearts), given how similar they are to his crystals.
i see it slightly different. because i noted the armor first. A halberd or lance is a great defense weapon, its the weapon of a , a warrior that can take a lot of damage. Celestia is the Tanking Soldier, she will be the one to slow the line while the infantry pics them off. The heavy armor would Cripple Celestia as far as agility, but she is the one who is to draw the attack.
Luna used a Medium armor. Heavy plates at her chest and sides light on the legs and light on the head. without the glyph magic she is infantry, she is the fast fighter, the razzle dazzle ranger type fighter. the sword would be a longsword. The elegant moves and lighter shining armor and topknot mane show wisdom and intelligence a powerful magic user. the sword and glyphs enhance her smaller more agile physique. Luna would be a ranger or sniper, someone who doesn't attack head on.

nothing is as awesome of confusing as when the sun and moon are BOTH in the sky. there is a time just before full sunrise that both are in the sky at once. second coolest thing is watching the sunrise on the east and the moon setting on the west with a definite line between day and night. I've even watched the sun and moon race across the sky together on a new moon night.
Do y’all remember when the fandom made Sombra a sad af backstory involving him dying after falling through ice, I remember that shit and I’m still crying. I also remember that he got a scarf as a memento from his sister whom I believe is one of the reasons he died, he was trying to save her or something like that. It’s been a few years so my information may not be correct.

At the end when Luna's eye turns onto Nightmare's eyes I find weird comfort in that. It feels like Luna wants to tell Celestia about it but she can't/doesn't want to. It kind of reasures Luna that Nightmare is still there and part of her.
this takes place just before Luna was exiled to the moon. remember in season 1 NMM returned after 1000 years. in season 2 the crystal empire returned after 1000 years, both where banished close to the same time.

Anyone else think that Sombra’s whole speech was 100% true and logical…he didn’t tell a single lie. Celestia does fear Luna in a sense, and Luna does fall, and has currently been submitting to her. Now. He doesn’t understand the night but he understands darkness and power. Also, I can’t be the only one who’d love to see them team up/be allies 😂 like the ending is badass and amazing don’t get me wrong, but imagine if Luna did team up with him.

i said it before. Sombra only knows what the greatest fear is, He thought Celestia Feared Luna. but When Luna calmly and forcefully says "She Doesn't fear ME." we knew the truth, and it seemed to catch sombra off-guard.

I think celestia thought that sombra made the empire disappear though it was actually Luna but celestia didn’t know nexus she was unconscious and Luna didn’t wasn’t to tell her that she made the empire disappear.
Personally I think the implication was that in destroying sombra, luna is the one that caused the vanishing of the empire, and she was hesitant to tell her sister because her transformation and the vanishing country scared her. And considering sombra claimed celestia was afraid of luna, luna was scared of telling celestia because it could lead to more fear of her from celestia. Not to mention the "hatred and power" comment probably did not help in easing luna's troubled mind of making her sister afraid of her.
But that's my interpretation, everyone sees things differently.
This animation is a masterpiece. Every reference is meaningful and almost no word was wasted. The Luna's speech, the talk between Tia and Sombra... just beautiful. It's so sad that silly filly had to stop their works

@@danamccary3930 Considering that MLP after about season 5-6 turned to more mature topics. Such as enslavement, dead parents, and even Starlight's creepy Hitler-Stalin ruling type village where everyone was equal; I think the show does actually care for it's older audience. If you've been to cons, you can tell that the show staff love their audience, young or old. Hasbro may dislike it, but the actual people behind MLP:FiM are very caring towards everyone who is a fan of their show.
@@niktakahashi5067 @Dana McCary even though you have a point that mlp is directed at it's general audience as a whole, adult or child, i think vastly interesting topics have nothing to do with audience and it makes sense for children to learn about it anyway or at least have a fruitful conversation with their parents about them. i'm 14 and i can say i understand these topics considerably well now, and i had only been introduced to them by things like MLP. honestly such aspects of the fandom and mlp seasons 1-7 really made the plot super cool and enjoyable, and the creators may have even ruined the characters for the children who watch the series by trying so hard to fit it into the "little girls" stereotype. there are shows like ATLA and books like harry potter and percy jackson and the sole reason they survived to this day is because they taught children valuable lessons about reality and their characters made a heart-to-heart connection with them. even the disney princess stories had topics such as these, such as mulan. there's nothing wrong with having an amazing story.

I watched this when I was 10 years old. I couldn't understand a thing they were saying. Now that I'm older and I was able to study english I came back to rewatch this video. I'm glad to be able to understand this masterpiece now.

the way Celestia has a nightmare about Nightmare Moon shows how she never fully accepted the kind of power Luna always had, while on the other hand, Luna has full control over that power, showing how she was able to embrace and even control that side of her magic

She might get injured though, if you we're Luna try flying out from Sobra, it's kind of hard-
She actually couldn't get out as the walls were angled in a way that the ends or points were touching so she would be badly injured if she tried and then would be at a major disadvantage against Sombra.
Its a good tactic on Sombra's part. And a smart response that Luna did in return.

Unfortunately, her actor along with sombra's just didn't have the emotion to make this line really stand out. it came out as more of a petty speech then something terrifying, and out of those two bad actors I'd say she lacked the most emotion. She just didn't sound that good.

I love the idea of Luna's slow decline over years. like every villain Celestia and Luna faced, Sombra, Discord, Tirek and others, chipped away at her spirit. Celestia always claiming most of the credit. Until finally she loses it.
For clarity Discord is actually a good guy, just he is biased because he know that Celestia is Shadow Sorcerer and didn't trust her even slightly.

Luna might be younger then her sister but she can still be strong, her words are herself and she won’t be defeated. She’s lucky she has her sister by her side.

- Discord try to erase all of harmony from Ponyville
- Queen Chrysalis posed as Twilight's former foalsitter and planned on taking over Canterlot

This reminds me of the episode where they had their cutie marks switched. Nightmare moon wants the world to fall to eternal sleep. While celestias dark side wants the world to burn. It shows the dangers of both night and day. The destruction the sun can give, or the eternal fear the night brings. Everyone has their own battles to fight.

They had so much potential! Their introductions were amazing and felt like a big threat, but in the final season they just seem like children
Sombra especially got the short stick. Like seriously, I expected that kind of behavior from Tirek not Sombra.
@@Vigriff , quite so, Tirek appeared narcissistic and loved to boast about power he didn't seem to have, and gets narrow minded when he believes he is winning. Sombra was menacing, he had a plan, he was forever lingering and his darkness would seep through the cracks, perfect villain. In season nine they got his personality all wrong. The voice was awful as well, Sombra's voice in this video is much better.

Tbh Luna is one of my fav characters in MLP. Shes so underrated and forgotten. If i were to say so myself, she has the one of the most powerful natural power in MLP. You might say, “Thats not true! What about the mane six and Celestia?!” Well, you see, Luna was born with the power but them six got their powers from the elements. Also, if not for Celestia’s training, being her student or meeting her friends, Twilight wont have the power she wields now. And also, if you have watched the backstory of Nightmare Moon, you’ll see that Celestia was almost defeated if it were not for the elements’ help, she would have been long gone.

On the contrary, I think like 90% of the fandom stan Luna. At this point, she’s probably overrated in popularity. Like seriously, everyone loves her.
In a show standpoint though, yeah, I would agree she was overshadowed and she doesn’t get much screen time.
Yeah I'm with +Elea Xu on this one. Luna is extremely popular in the fandom. Now addressing your power idea. Luna is powerful but is outclassed by 2 characters specifically, Discord and Starlight Glimmer. Here's why, Discord doesn't need to be explained, he literally does what he wants, when he wants to and can create dimensional rifts and blah blah, he's just broken. Starlight, is stronger as she has achieved feats even Twilight couldn't achieve, one of which is banishing discord (albeit just his body and from a small vicinity), without the use of the elements. Starlight is also the only one we know of to have time travelled as far back as she did. Granted it was Star swirls spell but she made the connection with the map and finalized it. Twilight has even said starlight has more raw power than she does and with enough time would surpass her. Twilight as an Alicorn. With roughly the same power ad celestia and Luna. Canonically Luna and Celestia aren't that strong, but then again we've never seen their full power in action.

Luna would completely destroy her. And that banishing spell did nothing to Discord. If anything, I'm sure he just came in ghost form to show her that she can't stop him, but if he wanted, he'd bring his body back WITHOUT Starlight's help. So, Starlight is actually weaker than Luna AND will not surpass Twilight, who has both immense raw power and Cutie Mark that shows the talent with magic. Unless Twilight stops training, Starlight is going to be the case of "can't catch up".
But Discord is more powerful than princesses, that I can agree with.
Gotta give credit to sombra, he was able to held his own against two alicorn princesses. When Luna became nightmare moon, gave me chills. Super awesome!
