    Dump the X5 and get into the Model Y Performance. The X5 is a money pit. You will save sooo much money by having the Tesla. As you mentioned- it has so many pros vs, cons. I've had mine for 2 yrs and don't regret it for a second. I was coming from a BMW X6.

    • @thedesertroad
      @thedesertroad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't keep my X5 out of warranty anyways, but NOT looking forward to doing break changes when those come. Tires run pricey as well. Otherwise BMW includes all maintenance for 3 years/36K miles since new.
      I do enjoy the fact of less maintenance, and no brake changes on the Tesla. Sometimes looking around the web some of the electronics and build quality issues are scary - but that's mostly car to car dependent.
      My X5 has been pretty solid so far in that regard. Pros and Cons to each ride, but getting out from shelling out $5/gallon for 12mpg is painful each time at the pump.
      Thanks for stopping by!

      The x5’s are such junk out of warranty. Replacing brakes will be the least of your problems!! Sell it while its worth something.

      @@dadman9492 Supposedly these newer gens especially the 6 cylinders are OK! But ... I typically never keep a german car out of factory warranty. It will be gone before then! So far no real issues on mine in several months of ownership.

    OK, here's some real world experience. I ACTUALLY swapped my BMW X5 M50d for a Tesla Model Y. The BMW was almost exactly double the price of the Tesla (and had double layered windows). I can not confirm that the Tesla is so quiet, on the contrary. The BMW was very quiet to ride, on the Tesla there's lots of noise coming in, even at low speed. It might have double layered glas, but it doesn't help, it does not have good sound isolation. Also, the drive in the Tesla is quite rough, while it was super comfortable in the BMW. The acceleration of the Tesla initially is much better than the BMW M, but at 160 km/h and above (when the electric motor is down-regulated), the BMW is quicker. What I like, is that the Tesla has almost as much space as the BMW. Regarding the sound system, it is solid in the Tesla, but nothing compared to the optional High End system in the BMW which I had. The turning radius was also much smaller on the BMW thanks to rear steering. Comfort seats in the BMW are MUCH better than the Tesla seats (and they can be cooled as well + have massage function).
    Driving dynamics on the Tesla is much better, thanks to the low center of gravity and near perfect 50:50 weight distribution, even though the BMW had the BMW M Professional Active Sports Suspension.
    So to sum up, I think after all you get what you pay for. Price-wise, the Tesla is a much better deal than the BMW, which is why I switched.

      I agree with your points. Funny you found the tesla louder - the 22s (wheels) on the M50i are quite loud just rolling around town. I mainly experienced the tesla on the town roads (not highway). Seats are AWESOME in the BMW. Cooled/heated function is great as well. I don't have rear wheel steering on the BMW or the Bowers/Wilkins stereo (the HK I got is on the average/below average point). I LOVE the driving dynamics of the Tesla, and one of the things I'm despising less and less about the BMW is it's high center of gravity and overall HEFT of this car. I do NOT enjoy taking turns in her at all.
      Yes - usually get what you pay for. Tesla offers a LOT of tech/features for half the price, and doesn't guzzle the gas at 12MPG.
      PROS/CONS to both cars and I'd be excited to experience all that Tesla has to offer.
      Thanks for stopping by!

      Hi! Do you regret getting the MY instead of the BMW? I am thinking about selling my 6 month old BMW X1 30e for the Model Y. I am not sure about autonomous driving and the parking sensors - they are really good on the BMW. Do you miss them?

    • @valuemastery
      @valuemastery 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@peter_w01 Hi Peter, there are actually things that I do miss about the BMW. Now in my case, it was a luxury BMW, while the Model Y is not exactly a luxury car. So naturally, I do miss some of the luxury. But I knew that up front, and am OK with it.
      Now here is a short comparison between aspects of the BMW and the Model Y, in my experience.
      Suspension on the Tesla is a lot stiffer than on the BMW, up to the point where it can be uncomfortable. On the other hand, due to stiff suspension in combination with the low centre of gravity (due to the battery), it goes around corners MUCH quicker than the BMW (and I even had the M sports suspension on the BMW).
      Noise levels inside the car, while driving, are louder on the Tesla (wind/tires/outside noises).
      Vegan leather seats in the Tesla are more easy to clean than leather on the BMW. However, I tend to sweat on the back more in the summer. This issue will be fixed in the next Model Y Juniper.
      Wiper and headlight are better on the BMW.
      Driving the Tesla is a lot more fun than driving the BMW. Instant acceleration, one pedal driving, low centre of gravity, brutal acceleration (on the dual motor model). Leaves the BMW in the dust.
      Seats are more comfortable in the BMW. But they're OK in the Tesla.
      Model Y has LOADS of space for passengers and baggage for its size. Amazing.
      Air conditioning and heating in the Tesla are a revelation. Pre-air-condition in the summer from your mobile phone, Dog mode, Camp mode, leave heating/air conditioning running when you leave the car just for a few minutes, etc. Amazing.
      The Tesla charges very quick on superchargers. Of course the BMW is filled up much faster. I charge at home and start each day with a full car, so not much need here for going to a charger. But sometimes, when driving long distances, I need to make a 20-25 minute break for charging. I'm OK with it.
      Parking sensors: I have a newer Model Y which does not have the parking sensors. I hated it. On the BMW, I had the 360 surround camera (top view), which was amazing. However, in December Tesla updated the software with AI parking view, which is very good. Not as good as the 360 degree camera on the BMW, but very usable now. I like it now.
      Self-driving: Don't have it, so can't comment here. I'm in Germany, and we're not allowed to use FSD beta here. But I do have extended autopilot, which I would recommend if you drive longer distances on the highway regularly. Works well.
      Now, after having had the Model Y for about 9 months, if I could travel back in time, would I switch from the BMW to the Tesla again? Yes, I would.

    I have a 2022 X5 competition and my wife owns a 2023 model Y performance in red. Her car is definitely faster than mine especially in the city. The build quality is 100% and I checked it thoroughly before taking delivery.
    Great review and thanks for setting the record straight 🤗👍

      Yes - I was thoroughly impressed overall w/the car, with the abundant negative comments pouring out over the build quality. I didn't find much wrong with it, and was even surprised to see what tesla added for a 'mid priced SUV' including dual pane windows up front! The car is also engaging and fun to drive, although a bit on the firm side (which I don't mind). Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your rides!!

    I own a Model 3 and still hate Model 3 and Y interior. With the Y performance price sitting at $55k these days, I am planning to get one despite hating its interior. No other car company can beat Tesla for performance vs price these days. Even S and X plaid are $90k these days!

      It's the best color on this car BY FAR. it goes well with the shape, and hides that semi-fugly front pretty well. Makes car look more premium as well. This spec w/black wheels is totally my pick on the Y. Good luck!!
