I Bought A Jeep XJ Sight Unseen For $500 And Its The Worst!

  • This XJ was listed on Marketplace as "$500 or I'll take it in for scrap". Naturally, I couldn't let a Jeep get thrown away, so I bought it sight unseen!
    Now that the 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ is home safe and sound, lets see what I have gotten myself into! Stay tuned for future episodes as I attempt to fix the brakes and swap out those hideous wheels and tires. Also more to come on the duct tape body work - Yikes!

    My suggestion would be to buy a rust free 2wd 97-01 XJ (Hopefully one with a bad engine on the cheap and use "The Ruster" to convert it over to 4wd. This would generate lots of "How to" content for your channel and in the end you should have a nice rig that you could continue to modify if the series becomes a subscriber favorite.

    Get another one rust free, and make one out of two, but resto mod like ultimate stock xj at least that's unique, like every dude puts fat ugliest tires, dude less is more, sound deadening comfy rear suspension ( like coilovers or spring rear suspension but no super long travel) etc

    A welder, tubing bender, chrome moly seamless, and a buggy plan. A plan is in order. CJ, XJ, TJ and a few others are all on the interest list. You know basic Jeepin stuffs.

    Pull the engine, trans, transfer, and both axles.keep any good doors. Save the glass and any interior thats not crap.Cut the rest up with a plasma cutter and dump it into neighborhood dumpsters.its a bargain.

    Get Willy’wagon and drop the 4.0L ,transmission ,transfer case and axels into Willy’s. Might be some interesting challenges due to web difference and fitting I-6 and super charge or turbo the 4.0

    Idk why ur hating so much it’s just some kids off-road project car probably just to drive around some trails, plus it’s kind of on you for not looking at it first and for 500$ that’s worth it just for the engine and transmission

    • @JeepSheepTV
      @JeepSheepTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could have been some kids project and that's fine, We all do dumb things. I would recommend, however, that this kid stops doing hard drugs every time they decide to work on the Jeep... some of these things seem intentionally bad. Also, you basically described why I bought the Jeep without looking at it, the parts that I knew were operational are worth what I paid for it. The rest is just a bonus and entertaining for the internet people.

      I have a 95 YJ with the little 4 cyl. I once thought about getting a 6 and transplanting but my 75,000 mile engine runs like new. I would like to see and hear how you check out that engine and graft it into the YJ.
      This is the first time I have seen one of your videos so I don’t know what to expect.
      My YJ was owned by a little old lady who never even got a scratch on the bash plates. She died about 18 years ago explaining the low mileage. The heater core was cracked which is why the car was parked years before she passed on… a perfectly straight, bone stock cheapest YJ with new tires… well 18 years old with no wear!
      Having fun!

    First review all parts that are salvageable, and see if you can get your money back from the Salvage. Even the engine might not be worth $500 return. Buy a similar Jeep with no engine and install a rebuilt from that hunk of worthless Rusty steel glass and rubber.
