So you should really look up the theories of the meaning behind One Of These Nights MV. While not officially confirmed by SM, it is considered a tribute to honor victims of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, and when you see more about this and the thematic elements and representation in the MV, it is absolutely devastating. Their vocals and emotional communication just are 10000000%.

One of these nights is about seowol ferry, cherishing three hundred~ of highschoolers death by drowning. There are interpretation in MV's comment section. Not official bc that was very sensitive and tragic accident in korea, but before that, SM did cherish by music about the national accidents. Also mv is very relatable.

Can't wait for more of the RV journey. Wendy is the vocal queen. Her solos are amazing. Especially her solo "Like Water", it was like a thank you to her fans for sticking with her and continuing to support her during her year long hiatus when she was healing and recovering from a horrendous injury. She fell 8-10ft off a platform during a SBS GAYO DAEJUN rehearsal and broke the right side of her pelvis, her right wrist and fractured her cheek as well as multiple bruises.
Red Velvet and their music will forever be iconic!! Whether it be group, solo or unit they never miss!

their first 6 releases REALLY lined up with the the red and velvet side in pairs: Happiness + Be Natural, Ice Cream Cake + Automatic, Dumb Dumb + One Of These Nights ( also, dumb dumb was on an album called The Red, a full length 10 song album, and OOTN was on a mini album called The Velvet, which is why it said "The Velvet" at the end of the MV. BTW, OOTN has like 4 different versions, one of which is a Piano version that is REALLY good).
One of These Nights expressed the sorrow arising from the Sewol tragedy. f(x)'s "Red Light", from the same time, expressed the anger.
The more you deep dive into Red Velvet, you’ll just eventually realize that they don’t have a bad song. Their whole discography is just insane! Also Red Velvet are the Queens of B-Sides, some of them are title track material.

The concept of Red Velvet is that they don’t have a concept. You never know what you’re going to get with each new comeback. That’s what make them so unique. You just know that the vocals will be amazing.
P.S. - staring you in the eyes vocal in One of These Nights was Joy. You mainly noticed at Joy and Wendy vocals in that song but also Seulgi as well ❤️ Vocal powerhouses in all of Red Velvet
I remember ICC and Dumb Dumb being so popular. Even in our school, girls would be on their laptops repeatedly watching the downloaded MVs (contrary to now where kpop stans focus so much on breaking records) for this as well as the Weekly Idol Episodes and then dancing along to them. Fun times!!
I managed to learn how to pick up on each members voices this way:
Wendy's got the strongest R&B Tone, very chest/throat placed. Good control on flipping between husky tones and light and airy (you'll hear it when you guys get to RBB and Butterflies) and the most controlled vibrato. Her voice makes me think of honey slowly dripping down ice cream or off of a honey stick.
Joy and Seulgi are very nasally but sounds more like throat placement with some nasal tone. Joy is more airy toned, Seulgi's got a thicker, huskier tone.
Irene has probably one of the most level voices, placement is between throat and nasal, without much variation.
Yeri is very light and airy toned, with heavy nasal influence.

Seulgi voice is so beautiful very high but not too nasal. Wendy voice can be different, or very strong, or very cute and sweet. Irene Joy sweet, Yeri cute but underrated
Seulgi's voice is fascinating to me because it IS nasal, but not in the way people think of pinched nasal sounds. It's nasal, but dark and round and clear like a bell. I think she has a very enigmatic voice.
Both Joy and Seulgi have a kind of fast more diaphragmatic sounding vibrato, which for me occasionally makes it tricky to hear them when it's Seulgi singing in a light breathy tone (which isn't often but it happens sometimes) I'm like.. JOY? I feel like a Joy voice comes out of Seulgi at times.

Ahhh proud of Han for recognizing Wendy most of the time when Kess asks. You will get there promise. The red head in One of this nights is Wendy and the blonde one is Yeri.
Anyways, One of these nights mv is a tribute to the sinking of the sewol ferry where thousands of kids passed away. The album cover of the one of these nights album where Yeri's face is blurred is somehow a representation of the kids who suffered the tragedy because Yeri's age that time is close to the kids who passed away. Watching the mv gives you goosebumps as it give many scenes where the kids are drowning like where Irene fell as the water splashes over and where Yeri was lying down on a boat and the water is going inside it, Yeri is just lying down represents that the kids cant do anything as they dont know how to swim. The scene where they wear white hoodie represents the kids in the heaven as it looks like they are in paradise. This MV just hits so much.
I relate with Kess when she said she is a sucker for a good Vocalist and good Rapper, my longest bias in RV is Wendy (because of happiness era Wendy) and then added to my bias list is Irene and Yeri which are rappers, so yeah, I have three biases in a group 😅, ah, I forgot, Wendy does the background track for the rap parts in their songs so technically, she is also a rapper too. Ahhh can't wait for you to watch Russian Roulete and Peekaboo 🤭. For the next mvs. I hope you can react to the MV and also the live version of Would You since they sang live, their mic is on there, and vocally, it does sound better than the recorded version no cap, its just sad Joy isn't there because she was filming her drama that time around, the MV, Irene is the only one in the MV.
Bside queens is one of the title of RV because their bsides are title track material. TRUST MEEEE LISTEN TO EYES LOCK HANDS LOCKED, LA ROUGE, and one of my fav vocally--LADIES NIGHT and OH BOY.

WE ARE 100% NOT TALKING ABOUT ICE CREAM CAKE. XD Nah, not an ad, although the "Genie Music" or "Sing" thing was very popular for SM songs between like 2010-2016 or something. Baskin Robbins prob paid some royalties for product placement though, that wouldn't shock me.
Yeri didn't REALLY start getting a lot of lines until "Russian Roulette" era. So rappers in Ice Cream Cake were Irene followed by Joy. "Dumb Dumb" says "Dumb" 205 times, and yes, their t-shirts/one leg stockings match up with their corresponding fruits. To answer Kess' question at 13:03 of who's wearing red, from left to right: Joy, Seulgi, Yeri, Irene, Wendy. So red+glasses is Irene, and this (IN MY OPINION) is one of her top 5 best MV looks. Also yes, they're LITERALLY RAPPING MICHAEL JACKSON SONGS AT YOU.
Fun Fact: Ice Cream Cake was one of the first choreographies I learned to do, followed by "Dumb Dumb."
"One of These Nights" was a tribute to the Sewol Ferry tragedy, but damn if it isn't one of their best vocal flex tracks. It's kind of especially tragic because most of those students lost were Yeri's age. This MV also has some of the MOST beautiful editing.

The member with the ginger/orange hair that you thought was Yeri is actually JOY. Yeri was the one with the pigtails. Actually, Joy was originally lead rapper/vocalist. However, she really improved and shined as a vocalist and joined vocal line with Wendy and Seulgi. Yeri took over lead rapper, but to be honest Joy and even Wendy rap and still have rap parts in b-side tracks. 👍👍
Irene was the member with the buns and wearing blue who caught your attention when she was dancing in the center. She is the lead dancer after all.

The rap parts in ICC are done by Irene (=the blonde girl in a pink skirt and blue sweater that was killing this dance as you said) and Joy (the redhead in a green sweater).
Joy was a part of the rap line when they debuted but along the way she moves to the vocal line and Yeri takes her place as lead rapper but sometimes in bsides you can hear Joy raps (Wendy also has raps in recent bsides).

Joy is the one you mentioned about the rapper that's on fire on ice cream cake. She's one of the rapper in the earlier era other than Irene and Yeri. These days she's one of the vocalist of the group.

If you're into HYBE's NewJeans, you will see why k-netz comment Min Hee Jin, the CEO of their label "Ador", is the mastermind of the whole concept. She was in charge of many SM songs, like "Automatic" and "Be Natural" that are the moms of "Cookie", just like "Ice Cream Cake" has many hints to NJ lore (the creepy, the cat and so on). Been a Luvie gives you these kind of vibes pretty quickly when you are diving into the hype of NJ.

I totally agree! They have my fav mvs ever! Just their mv in general always interesting and fun to watch even the weird ones like dumb dumb or rookie or zimzalabim. Dumb dumb gotta be one of my fav mv of them tho. The whole doll/robotic concept from the lyrics (yall need to read the lyrics, it ties to the mv really well) and how they visualize it and their execution with the mv and crazy ass vocals with very jumpy choreo (one of my fav choreo of them as well! Yall should watch their stage for this song), the styling *chef's kiss*. Dumb dumb is just perfect all-around. They do get called queen of concept and rightfully so. They're always all-in when they choose a concept and stick with it so every comeback is so distinct and have their own unique flavor and signature. Also, psycho is still one of my fav mv ever!!! The song, the mv, the lyrics, the styling, the melody, the choreo, the set design, editing etc everything is just perfect. I'm so excited to watch you guys journey falling into the cake girls rabbit hole. Especially when you get to know them better watching their level up projects. They're so fun to watch.
I wouldn't feel bad about learning names, when you come into a group late and then try to go back to their first videos, the hairstyles and faces look completely different. You will get there, it happens to all of us I think. Dreamcatcher took me forever, Dongie, Jiu and Yoohyeon I couldnt tell apart for months.

Learning faces is different for everyone. For me, I get it instantly. But for those that don’t and are going through a journey like this, I always recommend they look at the teaser pics for each member for each comeback before watching that MV. It generally helps you put the name to the face better.

EXPLANATION ON “ONE OF THESE NIGHTS” MV:
The theme of the song 'One of these nights' or known as 7 월 7 일 is “Shi Yue Hao (Sewol South Korea Ferry) Ship Wreck”.
The incident occurred on April 16, 2014 which is march 17th on the lunar calendar.
On the album cover, Yeri’s face is blurred because she’s the same age with the victim of the incident. If you watch the MV 'One Of These Nights', Yeri is lying down on the boat and many theories said that she ended up drowned.
Before the actual date where the MV was supposed to be released (and was delayed to one day late), SM released a statement said that they delayed the MV due to quality change.
It is because they changed the video aspect ratio to 1.33:1(represents the past, memories and old movies), 16:9 ratio to 1:1 (represents the recent years), widening to 2.35:1 (Represents to present time).
Some people state the theory say that SM Entertainment delayed the release for a day is implying the goverment’s slow action on rescue students or people in Sewol.
Just google about “Sewol Ferry Accident” and y’all can definitely say that the MV was a tribute for it. Although the lyrics of the song tells a different story/concept.

Irene and Joy did the rap in Ice Cream Cake and Wendy did the backing for their raps so it kind of hits extra hard And every time you said "That is Wendy right?" was correct lol If going in order Russian Roulette should be next. There is another single after that called "Would U" in the MV it is Irene on her own. There is a acoustic version MV with 4 out of the 5 girls (Joy was filming her first drama) I highly suggest that one. :D

I've been enjoying your RV reactions. I wanted to give a little insight that makes "One of These Nights" hit harder. It's about a ferry accident (MV Sewol) that killed around 300 people, 250 of which were high school students. Which is why the video has a water theme. It really makes the song hurt, in a kind of good way. Look forward to seeing future RV reactions from you two.

Ice Cream Cake was actually released a day after Automatic. Automatic is the second track in the album and ICC is the title track. Some would say theyre a double title travk.

Ah, One of these Nights. Actually, what they were going for was a tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy that happened 2 years before this release.
Basically, a ferry going to Jeju Island filled with 500+ passengers, mostly high school students on a school trip, flipped resulting in 300+ deaths. 300+ mainly because the captain of the ship saw that the ship was going down, told everyone to stay put, and then fled the ship with some of his crew. By the time rescue came, it was too late to save everyone still waiting in the lower cabins. Rescue has said they had even heard the students banging on the bottom of the ship as it sunk upside-down, unable to do a thing.
You can see all the symbolism and references in the mv once you realize what its really about.
Red Velvet and Exo are those unbeatable groups for mee. Can't wait to see you fall in love with my girls even more!

First time watching "dumb dumb" and "ice cream cake" really confusing to identify who is who.💗Irene, 💛 Seulgi, 💚Joy, 💙Wendy, 💜Yeri, this is their official colors.
OH MY GOODNESS YES YES YES!! I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, these songs are INSANE they all are super iconic and I love them all for different reasons! I just want to tell you that in Ice Cream Cake you guys got Seulgi and Wendy down (y'all really kept pausing on Wendy's "cherry on top" part) but you guys were wrong with the rest Irene was the first Rapper aka the Main Rapper, Leader, etc- Joy was the second Rapper (she was the one with the reddish hair) not Yeri (She was the Lead Rapper at the beginning of their journey), and Yeri was the one who ate the cotton candy near the end (hence the cotton candy vocals) she also was on top of the RV (Okay love the coincidence). During Dumb Dumb again you got Wendy and Seulgi right and yes Irene was the one with the glasses (WenRene aka Wendy and Irene usually wear glasses and then Seulgi does as well but not as much I guess and Joy and Yeri not really sure about), Joy is the one with the darker hair and near the end with the crazy dancing scene she had the kind of Cyan outfit on the very left (it should be Green but it's fine), and Yeri was the one who started the Bridge and has the purple outfit (the same dancing scene) on the very right! And One of These Nights is so Gorgeous and underrated it actually is about a ship wreck that happened I believe a few months before it was Sewol South Korea Ferry ship wreck and it killed most if not all of the people on there- also I just wanted to tell you Irene was the one who was looking at her reflection in the water who also fell down, Seulgi was the one who looked in the key hole and who also walked away from the camera with the lights turning off, Wendy is plain and simple the one with the red hair with the GORGEOUS vocals as always, Joy was the one you guys asked about who stared into your souls, and Yeri was the one in the boat with the Blondish hair! Also I can't wait until Saturday not only will you guys react to a bunch of Red Velvet stuff but also GAP the Series is coming out with another episode- that I know of (GAP the Series is a Thai Lesbian show that is actually VERY spicy if you guys haven't yet you should DEFINITELY check it out)... There was a kpop documentary where they visited the studio of the producers that made Ice Cream Cake and from the snippet we heard of the demo the lyrics were pretty much all metaphors or double entendres for more intimate relations, yeah. But for many, many, years now Korean-speakers in the youtube comments have reassured us that the Korean lyrics are in fact about ice cream (cake). I do remember watching Red Velvet doing ice cream ads back in the day, though, so I do think they had a thing with Baskin Robbins at the time! (Oh, and they're not named after the cake, they're really just named after the color and the fabric and their respective connotations? associations? being reflected in their duality concept.)
