It is impossible to overstate the importance of Into the New World. The girls spent a YEAR working on this song (including some trainees that didn't make the final cut). In 2016 there were huge protests against the Korean president with giant rallies - and the crowds ended up using ITNW as a protest song. That high note in the song (sung by Taeyeon, no surprise) has been a killer for groups that try to cover it. If you notice, the girls are wearing little to no makeup - its because SM definitely wanted to convey this was a "Girl" group. The scooter, which is fixed by Tiffany (her nickname was pink princess) actually belongs to Shindong from Super Junior. All told, SNSD/Girls Generation has made around 80 mvs (or CF, which is a music video used for a commercial) - a total that no one has come close to.

Soshi debuted REALLY young, Taeyeon (oldest) was only 18 and Seohyun (youngest) was 15 during ITNW. Oh! and RDR era (early 2010) was when Seohyun just turned 18.
Also fun fact, 2009~2012 were Soshi’s golden years, hits after hits (Gee - Genie - Oh! - RDR - Hoot! - The Boys - I Got A Boy), each member all had their own gigs from DJing, acting, musicals, MCing, variety shows, modeling, OSTs, CFs, etc., + JP releases (which were all bangers!). Like literally no one could stop them, they were EVERYWHERE.
And then there were the multiple sub-units...just WOW! Literally nothing that at least one of the members could not do. AMAZING ladies, AMAZING, World-Stomping group! :)
Actually Seohyun turned 16 less than 2 months before they debuted and of course Tiffany turned 18 just days before their debut. The real amazing thing is they had their whole first album, with all the hits that would carry them thru to the start of 2009 already recorded and ready to go while they were nearly all still in high school!
@@toyland12 That really is CRAZY. Did they even get a childhood? Good lord. We KNOW they are all hard workers but DAMN! Stealing childhoods is pretty messed up. Glad the labor laws have started to change over there a little bit... I heard about that when somebody was talking about a young member of an already-famous group; the member suddenly was not allowed to be at work or practice during certain hours with the older members...caused quite a stir.

SNSD didn't rise to NGG status until "Gee;" it probably also helped that around that time, Wonder Girls had vacated the space as JYP was trying to break them into the American market with "Nobody" (and a weird collaboration with Akon). unsuccessful
@@hanng1242 I meant that these ladies have ALWAYS been THAT GOOD, they were full of talent right from birth, turned that talent to skill and skill to Art. They worked HARD and just kept at it, which is the quality of person that fans look for in Idols, Soloists, Actors, Athletes, what-have-you. Those hard workers who constantly make a conscious effort to keep improving are the people who become Top-Flight World-Class Entertainers. These ladies absolutely EARNED all the accolades they got, even if it took time for them to get to the point of being recognized.
Fun fact: Run Devil Run song has its continuation in their recent ‘Forever 1’ album - the song is called ‘You better run’. You can notice it in their lyrics.

Staunch reminder Taeyeon was 18 at debut, which goes to show just how much years in the industry can enhance your voice, her recent years vocals are so insane.
Into the new world MV is like their individual dreams.. in their last comeback Forever 1, you can see there some parts connected to their debut which is their dreams.. that's how great they are..

ITNW is just simply one of the most ICONIC songs in kpop period. There's a reason why its still played to this day especially during protests. And is literally known and loved by EVERYONE regardless of age.
Around 2009, they were on virtually every variety show on television, every radio show, Yoona was already in dramas, sooyoung speaking Japanese and Jessica/Tiffany speaking English expanded their popularity to so many demographics from housewives to children in southeast Asia.
When jyp created TWICE, they declared that they would create a jyp version of Girls' Generation. Girls' Generation is that iconic in K-pop.
And when Red Velvet first debuted, sm announced that they would create a group that combines Girls' Generation's popularity with f(x) experimental concepts.

ITNW, as the girls have described is one of their hardest choreographies. They would tell stories about how they would kind of always be moving or jumping, or that their feet were never on the ground or something

They practiced ITNW for 1-2 years before debut... While CMIYC is considered as their hardest choreo, I don't think they practiced it as long as ITNW.

the thing about snsd is that theyre all so individually gifted when it comes to stage and screen presence. it shines through even when they're all wearing the same thing.
Into the New World is one of the most iconic debut songs. It’s literally the start of the girl’s generation. It’s probably still one of the most covered Girl Group songs today, I feel like almost every female idol has performed this at least once in their training or idol career. Apparently the girls practiced the song for over a year before they debuted.
BTW:Girls generation is THE NATIONS GIRL GROUP. they are the most diverse girl group ever. they have the best japanese discography. they to be my ultimate bias group.
They were always way ahead of their time both vocal and performance wise.

Girl every single one of this dance and song were viral AF, also they made almost every single concept that is out there and the great thing is that they did it first, you know how is a trend that now days every group wants to be the face of a brand, LG, Samsung, Dior, Cartier, channel, you name it Snsd was the brand face in Korea back then, being a SONE was so fulfilling cause they did so much and created so many concept, you never knew what they will come with, they also started a trend where you used matching outfits but the outfits weren’t the same but still looks uniform, they are my pride

Run Devil Run was originally for Kesha, it ended up getting leaked before she released it so SM bought it and became a girls generation song. You can actually find kesha’s version on youtube!

Just to clarify - I don't think it was written FOR Kesha. Kesha recorded the vocals for the demo, and the demo is what's submitted to companies. So RDR was submitted to SM as a demo - it's not as if they randomly came across a "leak"
You got it wrong. The composers for RDR wanted to sell the song, so they got Kesha to sing a demo. Kesha did the demo, but didn't buy the song. Maybe she didn't like it. So the composers put it up for music companies to listen and buy and SM bought it in the end, and gave the song to Girls Generation. The song was never intended for kesha, she just recorded a demo to help sell the song.

Run devil run was so big they even use that SLOW-MO RUN for AHRI's (a character/champion from the game) in-game dance from LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, it was that big to the extend that they even penetrated MOBA gaming world.
ITNW and Genie are probably the most covered songs by girl groups, i think most of the 3rd and 4th Gen girlies covered at least one of the two. Genie will always be my fave ❤

Run Devil Run is what got me into GG.
I was a huge Kesha fan and heard this demo she did, and when I tried to find the song it turns out GG sang it. Fell in love from there
ITNW is a difficult song to sing with a hard-hitting choreography, and they were singing live most of the time back then. They made it look so effortless, yet they actually were practicing for that song for a whole year before it was ever released. It was already pure muscle memory by the time they actually debuted. More so even now.
I discovered KPOP in the summer of 2012. I started to watch their videos at the end of the year and became really obsessed. I built a playlist of videos that was over 100. It consisted of live songs, released videos and fan mades where they didn’t release actual videos. Some have been taken down over the years, but when I want a good vibe day I come back to this playlist. They never made a throwaway song.

Genie is the song that made me a fan of K-pop.
I can even specify the moment In the song. I had heard Gee before, and some other songs by k-pop groups, but I hadn't looked any up for myself.
When I looked up Genie, and I got to Taeyeon's adlibs in the final chorus (right after "DJ put it back on") I was like "huh! Maybe there is something to this kpop thing after all".
That was in 2011, and I haven't looked back since. x)

Thank you for bringing me back to a simpler time. SNSD was my intro to Kpop in 2012 when I was a 19 year old lad. These past few SNSD videos that you’ve done really got to me. I keep getting choked up. SNSD got me through the roughest period of my life and I will always love them but thank you for helping me remember exactly why. Thank you so much.

*Just to add more context to Genie, the music video both of you are viewing is the 3rd rendition. The first had stylistic accessories that are not historically/socially accepted. The second was lost due to either TH-cam or SM transitioning to some new system/categorisation. So technically, if Genie, without those reuploads, would have over 150 million views, at the minimal, making it one of SNSD's most popular music videos in their collection. Why? A major reason: The South Korean soldiers then absolutely loved the uniform concept.*
Also, Just a tip though, if you see "Into the new world BALLAD version", in the recommendations, maybe wait with that video.
There's a Tokyo Dome version that is Iconic, but you should save that for later.
It's something you'll want to watch when you're good and deep into the "lore" and fandom.

gosh, this brings back so many memories. SNSD was the first kpop group I've listen to. When they were at their peak, they are everywhere!
INTW was an ICONIC debut song, it became the protest song that Ehwa Uni student rallies against the uni's policies.
Genie music show performance became the highest rated performance on any music shows.
Oh/ RDR album won them the album daesang at GDA which btw they are the first and only girl group to won in that category till date.

The hooded outfits in RDR were dubbed Jedi-Shidae, lol. There is a stage perfomance or two in those outfits as well.
INTW introduced me to kpop ,i saw the mv n performance on tv and i was HOOKED !!!! then with the years i knew more n more grps n soloists , i am grateful being a sone n a multi stan since late 07.

the CHILLS i always get when i'm listening to ITNW tho ;___ ; i first encountered them and their debut era when i was in highschool too, so basically i kind of grew up along side with their growing popularity in those days. ITNW will always make me feel so nostalgic.
I think there are 3 live stages of 'Into the new world' that really left a lot of emotions for fans until now. First, it was their debut stage, enthusiastic rookies stepped on stage for the first time with 100% powerful live vocals, powerful choreography, and no makeup. Next was the stage at Tokyo Dome, their first performance after Jessica left, the first time they sang the ballad version of 'Into the new world', which had nostalgia and regret, and took away a lot tear. Finally it was 'Into the new world' at the fanmeeting on the 15th anniversary, that stage was really emotional because SONE seemed to think SNSD would never perform the original version again, but they did, and in their 15th year they still prove they are "Girls' Generation" with that voice, that dance and those 8 girls.
There is a touching thing that, on their comeback with FOREVER 1, SNSD specifically asked Kenzie (ITNW's composer) to compose a song for them to send to their fans, a song that reflects SNSD's colors, and FORVER 1 was born. The bridge when SNSD walks on the red carpet at FOREVER 1 is the piano playing with the melody of 'Into the new world', proving that if in 'Into the new world' the girls are trying for their dreams, then 15 years later, they have succeeded and found their own identity with 'FOREVER 1'.
And it's fact that when they debuted, SNSD didn't receive as much good feedback as many people thought, they had many anti-fans and of course ITNW wasn't loved too much either. They had to perform in front of the black ocean at Dream Concert. However, the efforts and success of the girls, along with bright lyrics and powerful choreography, ITNW has become the debut anthem of Kpop, the song that seemingly every female trainee must also practice through, is the song used to play across borders and during protests.

'Genie' was released after the 'Gee' fever, and once again made Korean people excited.
The leg kicking choreography made a strong impression and for the first time, girl group had makeup on their legs. The influence of SNSD and 'Gennie' at that time will surprise you when Music Core's rooftop performance (th-cam.com/video/z3RTc-8J3CU/w-d-xo.html) reached a viewership rating of 17.2% (equivalent to 8,000,000 viewers compared to the population of Korea at that time) - A number that even famous K-dramas today can hardly reach. This is an unprecedented record and until now, it seems that no one will be able to break it. What's more interesting is that there was no flycam at that time, the performance was filmed with a real helicopter, SNSD lived under the noise and wind of the helicopter but still completed it excellently even though they couldn't hear the music.

SNSD was my first kpop group ever, Oh was actually the second kpop song I ever heard (first being Mister Taxi, also by snsd). Run devil run also was one of my favorite and yes I did that run in place move when it came out because thta choreo is iconic x)
