Hi everyone! If you are new to our series, WELCOME 💖 All reactions have been recorded beforehand. If you have suggestions for after let us know. However it would be best to post those suggestion on day 7. It's easier for us but what's even better....... join our discord and leave it in our reaction request channel. Anyways like always, these videos are dedicated to Red Velvet so please don't bring other groups into this or ask for series for other groups. We already have a schedule for our series. Let's have fun together.. IT'S RED VELVET!!!
OMG please dont skip Automatic mv. It’s the velvet side of ice cream cake era. Red: Ice cream cake; Velvet: Automatic. Just like be natural, Red side is Happiness while the Velvet side is Be natural 🥺🫶🏼
red velvet actually has a lore. red velvet aren’t real in their own lore, reve is a little girl living in the early 1900s and rv are her dolls. red velvet’s entire universe is actually composed up of stories made up within a 10 year old girl’s imagination all featuring her 5 favourite dolls hence the wide variety of concepts. she also wants to be part of their adventure so she chose one amongst them and named her "Irene".
is this written about somewhere? i always wonder when a group has lore like this is it stuff that fans have speculated on from clues in MVs and other things or has it been officially spelled out?
@@specificsoup both actually. reve has been present since early in their career and rv themselves have talked about it. there are official teaser pictures and mentions of her plus it was yeri who came up with the nam
Yeri is in Happieness, at the beginning beneath the disembodied mouth. Yeri was always part of the group but got some internet hate when she "joined" that most Luvies always quashed. Irene is on video saying their debut song is Ice Cream Cake and that's one of the best Leader moments there ever was.
You should watch Midnight Theories' video on Red Velvet. They pointed out that it wasn't just Yeri that shows up at the beginning of Happiness, but maybe 5 other trainees. Not sure about Yeri always being intended but we were lucky she was chosen cause she definitely brings a lot to the group. :]
@@mentalmaker03 Well, there was an easter egg on a SMTOWN concert 2014 video, where there was an interview of Red Velvet just after debut and in their footage there was actually a picture of Yeri that just flashed for milliseconds and goes away :O ... It's crazy SM was hinting it soo early !
@@mentalmaker03 they were supposed to add members every once in a while and "graduate" older members but since yeri got so much hate sm didn't go through with it.
@@cWjkL8ysxOkrH66 that’s an assumption, but i mean Yeri did train with them. It’s confirmed that they had always trained with 5 members, even at the end the gummy should represent Yeri
Fosho... They must get through the entire discography to feel & see the exciting rollercoaster journey of their spectacular series of projects. They keep continue to grow better musically as a group, as well as individuals.
I remember when this drops, opinion were definitely divided. But people def warmed up to it. But i think ice cream cske is def the song where the public started loving their sound.
For Be Natural, this song is their cover of an older song of the same name by an older group, SES, who was also from SM. And the original song also had a rap part, so in actuality, they stayed true to the flow. I kinda understand that there are times that you don't need a rap part necessarily, but in this case, it really was an homage. Hope that semi clear things up!
It wasn't a comeback so much as the second half of their debut, showing the "velvet" side of their concept versus "red" Happiness. Ice Cream Cake and Automatic followed the same pattern when they brought in Yeri.
Ice cream cake is a very special era. It's the start of OT5, they got their first win and they also became much more recognized! Irene mentioned that she feels like this is truly her "debut" since it was the first song with Yeri. "Dumb Dumb isn't just Kpop at it's audicious and cognizant, it's the genre's untouchable masterpiece." - Billboard
One of my favorite comment of Red Velvet MV is from "Automatic" says "This is back in the golden days when the girls were still r&b divas, before they matured into fruits" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't wait to see the journey you're going on~ Thank you so much for the series with Red Velvet~ Can't wait for tomorrow
Aw sad that you missed out Automatic! It was released alongside Ice Cream Cake actually (a double title track situation). It’s full on velvet just like Be Natural but with no rap parts! 🤩 As a fan from the beginning, let’s just say I don’t wanna go through what happened during their debut again 😅 SM had so much going on with their artists and as a result, these girls received some hate. And yeah the ads were a normal thing for SM music videos at that time 🤣
ikr, i was waiting for their reaction of automatic :( i remember they had to take down the debut mv because of the controversial scenes. everything was just so rushed back then, even the debut date too, like they barely gave us trailers, etc
Back to September 2015, when the song 'Dumb Dumb' was released. This song continues to bring success thanks to Red Velvet's strange music and because of its quality MV and its utter confusion. Almost all of Red Velvet's MVs have a not-so-small message hidden inside. At the beginning of the MV is the scene where the girls sit around a chess board in a room covered with studs, making us think of something more solid than a room, right? Next is a dining table consisting of gold-plated cutlery, porcelain plates and a gilded birdcage facing up. This is a product crafted by famous interior designer Alessandro Dubini. Although it is a decoration on the dining table, it has a symbolic meaning of confinement in this MV. Our Red Velvet girls as Leprechauns diligently work for Santa Claus (through color, hairstyle, apron, factory setting). But then one day they all suddenly became bored with all the gifts they were making like shoes, porcelain dolls, colored eggs, etc.. they suddenly realized that they weren't really themselves all this time. again. Having to work day and night, through the image of the pressure gauges with their needles indented, it shows that their endurance has reached its peak. The Leprechauns decided to drop everything they were doing and go on to do something absolutely monstrous: cloning themselves. The mischievous Leprechauns in boredom accidentally created clones that looked exactly like them and possessed the same magic as them. But according to fairy tales, the magic of the Leprechauns is a curse that haunts them forever, which is sometimes an obsession that Leprechauns want to get rid of more than ever. These replicas are boxed, like the picture you see at the beginning of the MV, they are "shipped" to people all over the world (at 1:46 you will see the globes), like a such a random gift. Are those really gifts? In the middle of the MV, you will hear Irene chanting a rap that tells quite the name of the songs of the king of Pop: Michael Jackson. To explain this I have a little story about Michael, a few months before the sad world event of Michael's death, he planned to build a park. named 'Leprechaun Park' for children located in Ireland (this is also the origin of the story of the leprechaun Leprechaun). When you connect the images of the five Red Velvet girls as Leprechauns to the story I just told, you'll notice their similarities. Next, rewind the MV to 0:50, you will see images of cassettes with the names of famous artists from the 1960s to the 1970s such as Canta U Populu Corsu, Serú Girán, Julio Iglesias. These are artists who were once very famous in the history of world music and are also artists involved in scandals about...children. Including the King of Pop Michael Jackson in the paragraph I just mentioned above. They are involved in the abuse scandal, child abuse is a painful problem of society so far, although these scandals are considered accusations that are not 100% authentic, but they make their careers difficult. into turmoil. This MV brings in Michael or other artists with similar scandals not to criticize them, but to show that this society is ready to accuse you of being a pedophile even if you just stand there and smile. laugh with the kids. By putting together all the details and events in this MV, the producers are showing us the heaviness and difficulty of child labor exploitation, the coercion of relationships. family relationships with children, "boxing" children's futures, and child abuse. At 2:18, the image of legs struggling inside the box is the most haunting and sensitive segment, symbolizing child abuse. Confinement is a box and desperate legs struggle to find a way out. This is probably the most iconic MV among all Red Velvet's MVs about social issues. The image of Leprechauns replicating themselves is significant for the spread of the outbreak of child abuse in today's society. A crime that is always smoldering and cannot be extinguished. I am thankful for Girls’ Generation. Because of them, I was there when Red Velvet debuted. I am a SM trash and is always supportive with SM groups. Now, my ultimate group is Red Velvet.
I’ve been a Luvie since Be Natural/Automatic/Ice Cream Cake… Red Velvet was my introduction to K-pop…. I love all the groups, but RV just hits different down to my core…. Can’t explain it just felt the same when I would listen to Prince back in the 80’s and on. Their musicality, the vocals, the diversity in there music, they don’t shy away from pushing the envelope and whether it pops or not they try for it anyway, they’re unapologetic in that respect… That’s what makes Icons… Legends… and creates a legacy. Every comeback they just keep getting better and better it’s absolutely incredible. That’s why They are called The Greatest Idol Group Alive… Not because of Popularity but because of there unbridled talent. The Queens of Harmony are Goddesses unchained. Your kids, kids will talk about them a 100 years from now… not many can achieve that type of legacy.
during dumb dumb era it was really overwhelming to me idk why maybe because during happiness the gp literally cancelled RV and called them names such 'failure' and other horrible things then during ICC the gp was divided, people started to recognize them with their sound but also the Yeri hate train started because of her being added to the group, then Dumb Dumb era came and that's where everything cooled down ig? RV reached a peak in their career the hates started to disappear one by one and then the following eras is just RV rising and became the top gg of those times, it is very fulfilling seeing how these girls were labeled as 'failure' back then and now are labeled 'Nation's Pride' but it was traumatizing as hell I wouldn't want to go back to those times lol
Red Velvet (Based on extensive digging), really didn't Set the Music Scene on Fire (Due to fierce Competition)...But Ice Cream Cake hit the "Sweet Tooth" and it's been phenomenal ever since.
Yessss!!! My ultimate girl group, Red Velvet. I'm glad you are doing this because RV and their music really deserve to be known. Their music is so diverse, their skills are top notch (esp.in vocals), their personality is very interesting. And one more thing that I guarantee is that they are never boring. They're literally the Queen of Versatility..
RV's Be Natural is longer in audio streaming format by the way, if you wanna hear it longer you could go there~ It's just that they somehow cut it shorter for the MV. p.s. also, please don't forget to react to RV's Automatic, because it's released after ICC but before Dumb Dumb
As a ReVeluv, I gotta let you in on the obvious 6th member of Red Velvet..... It's none other than.... a TABLE ! That's right :D ... from their Automatic MV till now they always have a table scene where the members sit around it (even in latest Feel My Rhythm)
these are my girls and i was there when this came out. 2014 was just such a crazy year for SM and just kpop/kr in general that Happiness didnt get the attention it wud've otherwise. very divided opinions and not much warmth for them until Ice Cream cake. Be Natural is just an underrated gem. acc to SM Ggs tradition, their 2nd releases always are a remake of an older song from an SM senior so Be Natural was one too. hope u give a whole day to their JP releases
i just been through red velvet in psycho comeback, and honestly the Feel my Rhythm cb was the happier week for me since pandemic. This girls know how to deliver happiness to us, and im happy that you going to stan red velvet too
(Sorry in advance for such a long comment, I’m just very excited about the series! 😅) It made me super happy to hear you acknowledge that they’re a group that has been through the eras, still maintaining their relevance in the current climate of k-pop. Eight years into their career and they only continue to grow, in more ways than one! I’ve been a Luvie since my introduction to the group with “Dumb Dumb” in 2015. While I am a casual listener of a lot of k-pop, they’re the only group I continue to follow closely and listen to their discography on a daily basis. I think you’ll discover a lot to love about them, and I can’t wait to see you both become Luvies! Also, you asked about their debut with Happiness and how it was received. I don’t know how the song itself was received, but I know that their debut had mixed reactions because, at the time, SM was dealing with multiple controversies and law suits from some of their own artists, so the general public was tense towards the label. Red Velvet has also never had good promotion or support from SM, so they had to gain recognition and support from the general public pretty organically. Anyway, a fun fact about “Happiness” is that now, every year for New Years in Korea, the song starts charting! Apparently it has something to do with bringing good energy into the new year and the general public has made it somewhat of a tradition. 🎊 I can’t wait for the rest of the series! I’ll be sad when it’s over, but I’m sure there will be more Red Velvet content to come based on the series so far, haha. 💖✨
For me Red Velvet was also the only kpop group I followed closely for years ever since Happiness. A year ago l fully came back to kpop tho and got into so many groups! RV forever my ults tho! ❤
Also, I've read from OG fans that SM group's senior fandoms especially snsd and f(x) fandoms did Not appreciate the bew GG debut at all and were literally disliking the teaser and MV throughout the whole era, badmouthing their music and visuals ;( .... I mean their debut was at such a hard time and even amidst that mountain of ignorant biased people, they stood strong and became *Nation's Representative Girl group* and *Best Idol Group Alive* as titled by Billboard themselves
this series is going soooo amazing!!!! and such a nice throwback cuz going back on their catalog is a journey as well. watching how versatile they are and how they can travel from every concept so easily is mind blowing, the talent jumps out 🗣️
@@ReigningSupreme i think i saw a video of someone reacting to Monster. The first group I discovered was blackpink so I Guess The algorithm recommended it to me
I stanned since Happiness and I remember that they had t edit the first version because of having controversial images. But because it was SMs new gg since fx they got alot of attention
Be Natural and Automatic were the reason why I'm velvet side biased, Ice Cream Cake is a very solid debut EP and The Red with Dumb Dumb as single, still their masterpiece.
Be Natural and Automatic are my all time favourites. Unbelievable that neither one was popular. If they had exposed them to the Western culture, they would have taken off. Interesting fact: Be Natural was done in one take.
I knew RV at Ice Cram Cake era and became REALLY interested in them watching Be Natural and Automatic, because it made me realize how versatile they were, so my first comeback was Dumb Dumb and that moment I became a reveluv, they've been my favorite group since then
icc definitely was the song that put them on the map (and it was their 1st comeback), but dumb dumb is the song that took kpop by a storm. i remember that era like it was yesterday, wherever i go on the internet everyone was talking about them even non fans, and domestically it received a massive amount of love it was played everywhere in korea/tv shows/kdramas, it was THAT song.
Edit: saw on discord that you got the info👍🏻 Esosa if I remember correctly, you got goosebumps when you heard the snippet of Automatic in the guide, that song came out the same time as Ice Cream Cake. Definitely check it out once you are done with the marathon😊 Fun fact🤓: Be Natural was a song originally by S.E.S (1st gen gg from sm) and Irene, Seulgi and Wendy actually covered it as trainees (Irene + Seulgi - dance and Wendy did the vocal for it) (Also side note: you guys actually saw a cover of Be Natural already 🤭during a deukae live stream, 2hyeon concert stage)
9 months late BUT I WAS THERE FOR THEIR DEBUT 😩✋🏾 and the girlies were pissed 😂😂 not necessarily at Red Velvet tho At the time f(x) was having their red light era comeback and a lot was going on regarding their former member Sulli (rip 💔). So SM stans were upset with SM because they were mismanaging f(x) (as they always did 🙄) and Sulli had just stopped promoting with the group (it wasn’t intended to be permanent at the time) yet here they were getting ready to debut a new girl group instead of giving f(x) the attention they deserved. So, when this came out, ppl took their anger out on red velvet. The group and the MV got a lot of unwarranted scrutiny and hate, but a few weeks later they dropped “Be Natural” and by then everyone had calmed down, retracted their hate claims towards RV, and began to admit what I knew all along, Happiness is a banger 😂 It all worked out in the end bc ppl then began to understand their “Red” and “Velvet” concepts (with “Red” songs performing extremely well in Korea and “Velvet” songs unsurprisingly doing well internationally). Red Velvet gave something for everyone so everyone was happy in the end.
I stand since their debut...for me was....WOOOOOWWW this is amazing and so refreshing at that time. I knew 3rd gen will be amazing...and then debuted Black Pink and Twice...so...yes, I did hahaha
I was only into SNSD, BigBang, and EXO, but 2014 came and my sister can't stop playing Happiness on repeat, I was honestly annoyed by it at first but I got a new phone back then and I wanted to add some new songs so my sis added the song to my phone and now Im here knowing and celebrating their birthdays, have bought albums, owned a premium RV colored feather duster, and everything I can do as a reveluv would 😂🤣
In 2019 I tried counting how many songs Red Velvet has and it was over 100. I can't understand how a group with this many songs doesn't have any that I wouldn't like. Over 100 songs and I wouldn't skip any single one.
well, for a luvie, I am kinda late 5 years after debut. I noticed them on youtube and other media but shame i didnt hit the click until their voice hit my ears and smacked my heart with their cover song 'close to me' by Ellie Goulding while i had a meeting in a cafe.
The colorful song recorded in Palmdale, California in 2015 created an extremely impressive wave for Kpop at that time. Thinking that the MVs at that time of the 5 girls, SM Entertainment would not have poured into the "conspiracy theories", but in fact, this management company has secretly put a lot of messages in the first steps of the 5 girls. Red Velvet, typically in the Ice-cream Cake MV. Originally titled 'Blonde Girl', this song is a remake of a demo called 'Ice-cream Truck' with a playful melody and a ghost hook that makes the overall song even more mysterious. . Let's go back to the special details in the MV. In the early segments, the girls are showing us they are in the most comfortable mood. In this MV, Wendy is the central character and every character around her is an additional foundation to build her story more clearly. And in the scene where Wendy is wearing makeup, you can see that behind the door is a very lovely white cat. Don't ignore it, the interesting point of this MV is there. The next scene at 1:08, you will see Wendy sitting in a room surrounded by suitcases filled with cakes and flowers. They mean that Wendy is a traveler from far away with bulky luggage, she carries a lot of other baggage, cakes and flowers symbolizing the dream age, the budding age. And behind Wendy is a picture of the beach similar to the picture in Seulgi's room at 0:15 in the MV. You might be surprised when Lee (writer) said: Seulgi, Irene and Yeri represent those who have been missing before. And Wendy is the next victim. Based on the point that Lee just shared with you above, the room in the motel that Wendy is staying in is the same room that Seulgi had previously stayed in. But has been painted and changed the interior, except for the beach picture. In the next scene, Joy appears at the front desk as a motel employee. Why do you think Lee knows right? Take a closer look behind Joy, there is a small sign saying "NO FOOD OR DRINKS" which means "DO NOT USE FOOD OR DRINK", but while Joy was holding a cup of coffee and was enjoy it. Another detail is that she is standing behind the counter, not in front of the counter. In Joy's hand is a newspaper about the army's bomb and weapons testing in 2012 and the corner of the newspaper Joy is holding is 2013. It can be seen that this is an area that has been banned from the military's patronage for weapons testing sessions for a long time. However, for unknown reasons, there are still people who want to operate this old motel. This is probably the least frequented place and also the ideal place to make human trafficking trips. Going back to the scene where Wendy went to the car with the other girls meant that this was when she was officially missing. In the 1:48 segment, these girls' cars run on the road, behind them is a giant ball bouncing hastily. To show us what is chasing them are the bombs in that weapons experiment. This message is even clearer when at 2:01 minutes, this ball suddenly explodes and sends other tiny balls into the air. So did the other giant balls in succession. So what is the connection between the bomb experiment and the kidnapping? As Lee initially mentioned in detail the Ice-cream Cake demo song called 'Ice-cream Truck', which was composed with spooky lyrics adapted from an urban legend about an urban legend. the man drove the ice cream truck, and for every kid who came to buy ice cream, they became his trophy. And the exchange for ice cream cones is the unexplained disappearances throughout the years. Here, Joy plays the role of a guide who brings the other girls ice cream, lets them enjoy a happy time in that mysterious motel, and then kills them with the aftershocks of violent incidents. bomb explosion. Then their souls will belong to Joy. In the next scene, the other 4 girls are admiringly looking out the window and see Joy standing there with the original white cat in Wendy's passage that Lee mentioned, but this time with a giant form. unbelievably huge. Here's an image that shows the surrealism that begins to unfold after their deaths. The girls at that time were meeting in a place that was beyond the boundaries of life and death. They are in the “paradise” created by Joy. And now you can see the girls' faces, expressions and makeup have gradually changed under the evening sky. They gradually changed their nature and belonged to the other guide. At the end of the MV is an image of the giant ball still bouncing behind them, to show that things are still going. Bombings and demonstrations of the power of weapons still take place somewhere on this planet and claim thousands of lives every year. One of the best introductions to RV's Dumb Dumb is the groups cameo in the k-drama Descendants of the Sun, Ep. 16. The MLs get into trouble after being caught as wild fanboys; a perfect comical clip for reactors 🤣
I didn't get into Red Velvet until the "Psycho" era, but have fallen hard since then. Their title tracks and MVs are great, but they barely scratch the surface of an incredibly diverse discography. Many of my favorite songs are b-sides (if not most). That said, you should be hitting "Automatic" tomorrow - I can't wait for that reaction.
I was a red velvet fan since day 1 ❤ but what made me stay was automatic and dumb dumb. Sometimes I dont love some of their title tracks, but their albums are always so good! Bside queens!
I got into RV right at the time Ice Cream Cake released, and it was my first dive into Kpop outside of a couple Girls' Generation songs. Wendy was my bias before I knew what that even meant, and a little after that it was Seulgi (which is how it stayed until about a year ago). I remember feeling like RV was so unpopular because they were still in SNSD's (and f(x)'s to some degree) shadow. They didn't tour. They were scrounging for performances at middle schools. Of course, they had SM Entertainment backing them up so there was never any possibility of them failing, but stanning them felt like I was following some kind of weird indie band. There was a website dedicated to promoting/talking about RV in the same way that SNSD had their website, Soshified. I ended up being a radio DJ for them for a while for a weekly audience of somewhere between 3 and 7 people. The website itself, which was just an old-school forum (this was just before Discord got well-known), peaked at about 40 semi-active people during the Dumb Dumb era despite being one of the VERY few places for non-Koreans to find info about RV. The Dumb Dumb comeback was so incredibly different from modern comebacks. They had a livestream, hosted by Shinee's Key, that looked like it was a found-footage flick. I genuinely couldn't tell if there was a script, because it looked and sounded like nobody knew what they were doing in the most endearing way. The girls were introducing songs unprompted and Key had to flip the camera away to make sure they weren't spoiling anything too bad. After One Of These Nights, I actually stepped away from the fandom for a while because I went to the Los Angeles Korean Music Festival to see RV with some of the other radio DJs from that fansite, but got sick mid-concert and a fucking ambulance took me away before RV performed. There wasn't really anything I could do about it (turned out to be a minor heart condition), but I was embarrassed as hell and tried to fade out of existence. While I was gone, that's when I got into Dreamcatcher! But I never really stopped stanning RV. They were never UNpopular, but at some point their popularity absolutely exploded, and I always had a weird tiny bit of pride in the back of my mind because of it. Idk. Red Velvet rocks.
Be natural was a Remake song and was released as a single, wasn’t necessarily a comeback. Automatic and Ice Cream Cake is technically their first comeback.
Years ago dumb dumb really had an impact on me... I just discovered kpop though blackpink and when I got into rv (russian roulette was their latest comeback back then) i fell in love hard. What a time😭
When they were in their middle years you know when they established themselves, the fandom was just really chill but loving. We have the ongoing jokes of being lazy because views and streaming numbers weren't high. When a song goes public popular that's where they boom. I think after Psycho its were the new fans really got into it because of the pandemic and so did the fanwars and hate being spewed online. But early luvies know how peaceful it was before the 20's began
5:04 Back then, Red Velvet was thrown alot of hate. They've been through alot even before they debuted. Basically, they debuted earlier than planned because of SM's issues at that year (hence Yeri not being able to debut with them because she was too young). Everything was rushed. The gap of their group's announcement and their debut was just like a week apart. They were also getting thrown hate at because people thought they were replacing f(x) (another one of SM's girl groups). Their debut was really badly received.
Yeri was 16, and just started highschool when she finally debuted. But she was a trainee since 5TH!! Grade. RV Irene and Seulgi DID raise her and fed and played with her. Irene ironed her school clothes and checked on her every day and night. Seulgi (who had been a trainee since she was 12) tried to give Yeri a fun childhood. Yeri will always be the baby child of RV.
I was a real ReVluv when I discovered them in Dumb dumb and Automatic I was like wtf I listen to their album Red and I was even more shook (mention to Oh Boy supremacy 😂)
OK, so Dumb Dumb was my introduction to the group, and I listened to just that and Russian Roulette for the longest time in high school before I started getting into more of their music (at that time, I was still a casual listener to a couple other K-pop groups since I was mainly focused on stanning J-pop idols), but eventually got introduced to more of their music so while I'm not a hardcore ReveLuv, I really love their music and style! My bias in the group is Wendy! 💙
The Velvet is so smooth. Not sure why I never seen them around 2014...Wow Ice Cream Cake! So fresh!!! (Love those light up jackets) But the flow to that song. Again where was I when they came out?
The best kpop discography in my opinion, there are many good songs from various other groups and soloists that I also listen to but none have the variety of concepts that Red Velvet has.
There's a clip somewhere when they are just about to debut first time with this Happiness song in front of reporters and you can see clearly how nervous Wendy and Joy is, even Irene looks worried... except Seulgi who is smiling from the start to the time they gonna start the song. They have came so far...
I saw RV first since the debut era ot4 and ya i really love Happiness because the lyrics is so deep you have to see it. Ya also this the time they debut when SM in a phase with alot of huge scandal but i think the happiness era is 2014. this reminds me of snsd jessica jung sudden leave the groups news and ya suddenly sm boom they debut RV as ot4. so ya not suprise because it SM . But during the happiness era the song is so popular among korea wendy shine on me is the highlight of the song. I still think this is the best debut song of RV . because no one can make Shine on me vocal like wendy this day.
bro i was alr so excited to see the guide reaction and then i opened it on my pc and saw theres alr a day 2 as well lets goo :D tbh this week has been a Lot and this is gonna be so good for relaxing and vibing at the end of the day, thank you!!! as for the Be Natural: yeah.. suits... they rly knew how to quickly show their concepts huh
I started listening to kpop around 2009 when Wonder Girls and GG were gaining popularity. I remember when Happiness came on Pandora and I originally thought it was an Orange Camarel song until I saw the name Red Velvet. I don't really follow kpop news but it kept playing more often so either it was pretty popular of SM was paying somebody off. I didn't start watching music videos until Russian Roulette (which was an accident) and then went back and basically discovered the "2nd half" of kpop. Dumb Dumb is definitely the one where I feel they started establishing their creative and looked like they were having a lot of fun.
OH MY GOODNESS YES YES YES!!! I am so sorry for being late but that's okay, I just got to say well first of all you guys totally skipped Automatic I hope you guys go back to it, and also all of these songs are so ICONIC in so many ways and Wendy always have some of the most iconic lines like the whole Shine on Me bridge is just WOW! Be Natural has to be one of the most difficult dances to do because there are chairs involved and not to mention that they are wearing high heels, Ice Cream Cake was the first Music Video that had Yeri in it and she was AMAZING all I have to say is that all went nuts on that plus them with blonde hair just wow (though like I said I feel bad for people who tried to get to know them through Automatic and Ice Cream Cake era especially Automatic because wow) plus it's super catchy, and Dumb Dumb has to be one of the most iconic Red Velvet songs it's so catchy the references were great and the vocals/rap went OFF!! Anyways I can't you guys to react to more Red Velvet such as more Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! I can't wait for more Content from you guys and I hope that you both are doing well and staying safe and healthy! P.S. If you ever need any good Videos I could totally help you out with that if you need it, also just so you know most of the high notes or really any notes you hear in the back is usually Wendy sometimes it's Seulgi or maybe Joy!
If i remember correctly "Happiness" had mixed opinions, beacause the sudden debut was in the middle of a ongoing sm scandal which was pretty huge. So they were hated at the time of their debut. But when "Ice Cream Cake" came out it was a big hit, people (including myself) was playing this bop all summer. "Be Naturel" was a homage cover of the original singers SES (first gen idols). "Dumb Dumb" had pretty positive reviews with the song high on the charts. Only thing nedded after "Be Naturel" was their song "Automatic" which like "Be Naturel" had a more mature sound, but you can just lisiting to it after you are done with the week :).
"Ice Cream Cake" is my unpopular opinion fave (of too many faves). & "Dumb Dumb" is such an insane amazing song. I had actually not seen "Happiness" before either. O.o
i was crying with your reaction to the ad in ICC 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that always takes me out. idk if you guys get to it in the next days but if you don't, you should definitely check out Automatic after you're done with everything! it was a dual title with ICC, with ICC being Red side and Automatic being Velvet side. if you liked Be Natural you'll definitely love that one! (also agree so much about Be Natural. get that man outta there) ah, another thing about Be Natural is that the camerawork and editing style are definitely Shim Jaewon's brand. he's a coreographer that also worked with Irene & Seulgi in Naughty. this has been so much fun! i think it's a testament to the quality of RV's music that you know their songs without having watched the mv's. when i first got into RV, i listened to their entire discography for a while before even thinking of checking out the music videos simply because the songs by themselves got me hooked. dumb dumb is honestly one of the best comebacks ever like the mv is one of the best, choreo is one of the best, styling is one of the most memorable, the whole The Red album is god tier. i wish i had gotten to know them at that time 😭
SR14B means SM Rookies '14(2014) Boys...it's the pre debut project of SM. That includes red velvet members as well (except Joy) as part of SR14G. Trainees part of this project are introduced to the public prior their debut.
So glad you guys are doing a red velvet dive!! They're kind of insane, both talent-wise and personality-wise lmao Also, in case you didn't know, Yoohyeon and Gahyeon covered Be Natural and it's........ I died
i was back in eight grade when red velvet debuted and i was a new kpop fan. watching happiness for the first time really sucked me in but not in the way that i stanned them immediately. i think the song was very catchy and good but the visuals really dragged me in as a high school girl who's really into pretty stuff and red velvet is REALLY PRETTY. i remember liking irene right off the bat lmao but i'm still not a hardcore fan. i think the song was generally good back then in 2014, like you said it's very much sounds like of that time and i enjoyed it. kpop music evolved for the past years and i can say that it's not that much of complex song like the ones we hear these days but i really enjoyed rv's songs when i was still in high school. ice cream cake dropped and yeri debuted and that's what really sucked me in with this group. i loved their concepts a lot from then on aside from falling in love with yeri. i've been a reveluv since 2015 and red velvet hasn't failed me with every song and comeback. they just keep getting better and better with their concepts which are so unique and never been done before. i love them a lot!
For Be Natural, it comes out from what i remember, out of nowhere, hahaha. Irene, Seulgi and Wendy was in SM Rookies ( the predebut team ) back then with some of NCT members such as Taeyong. In that era, they release Irene and Seulgi’s video dancing with this song. And maybe because they were in the same predebut team, thats how taeyong featured in here. It is also a remake song from S.E.S, their senior girl group in the agency. kinda SM GG thing to release remake song after their debut single haha. Snsd with girls generation, rv with be natural, and aespa with forever
Yes I watched their debut Happiness, but back then i didn't like it, same with ICC i still didn't like it, but Dumb Dumb thooo.. Issa a BOP ! The turning point actually YT playlist randomly play Automatic and from that point i became a fan of them, and now Red Velvet is my ult group :)
Also, one of the newest universal theories about RV lore is that they are dolls. Like, even though they have very variable concepts, it seems like it's one of the unifying aspect of RV's lore.
The colours on their hair are each member colour (Pink for Irene,Blue for Wendy,Green for Joy,Yellow for Seulgi and Purple for Yeri). Back then I really enjoyed it,plus the Wendy part was amazing. Also was the first girlgroup from SM since 2009 so a lot of people were ancipating it. Also their style was different from Girl's Generation and f(x). And yes the annoying ad was always on SM videos for a while. The pink thing in Happiness was SMTown mascot at that time and it fitted their concept. I honestly don't remember much from 2014 since it was in general a bad year in kpop (especially with Ladies Code car accident who killed two members). Be Natural is a cover from an older SM group,S.E.S, and Seulgi and Irene did a cover predebut, with the chairs too. They did perform the song but i don't think you can count it as a comeback. In the Ice Cream Cake album, there is one version which is based on Ice Cream Cake (the pictures in it) and then an Automatic one, another MV,which is more of their Velvet concept. The raps in Dumb Dumb have a lot of Micheal Jackson title songs in them.
When SM was going to debut a new girl group I had been super excited. I can still remember the SMROOKIES video of Irene and Seulgi. I was very excited because I thought, oh wow this is very different from GG and f(x) and then came "happiness". I had been very confused and thought why? But now I love the song 🤣
Hi everyone!
If you are new to our series, WELCOME 💖
All reactions have been recorded beforehand.
There was one MV between ice cream cake and dumb-dumb. It was called automatic. It was paring song with ice cream cake
Hope you can react to Joy's Day By Day live from Sketchbook it's such and underrated song of hers it stings
Hope for Wendy's when this rain stops reaction and their cover of Boa's milky way
fun fact Joy's shirt at 4:43 it had the word Unity in Arabic
Wow never knew that
Woah!
exactly! and that's why we say irene is the one controlling them and all the theories of joy and seulgi waking up and trying to take control
is this written about somewhere? i always wonder when a group has lore like this is it stuff that fans have speculated on from clues in MVs and other things or has it been officially spelled out?
Red velvet have designated colors
Irene-pink
Seulgi-yellow
Wendy-blue
Joy-green
Yeri-purple
Thus they have colored hair
I am sure 7 days is not enough to experience Red Velvet :) So I hope for continuation in the future.
Fosho... They must get through the entire discography to feel & see the exciting rollercoaster journey of their spectacular series of projects. They keep continue to grow better musically as a group, as well as individuals.
100% agree! I hope they continue with the albums and b-sides too. As ReVeluvs, there's no end when we talk about Red Velvet perfect discographies
I remember when this drops, opinion were definitely divided. But people def warmed up to it. But i think ice cream cske is def the song where the public started loving their sound.
i meant when happiness dropped
Ice cream cake is when I really started paying attention to them 😍
Happiness is a BOP!
Yeah, same opnion. At first I was like "oh, this is different... but idk how to feel about it..." and after a while I was so into it
For Be Natural, this song is their cover of an older song of the same name by an older group, SES, who was also from SM. And the original song also had a rap part, so in actuality, they stayed true to the flow. I kinda understand that there are times that you don't need a rap part necessarily, but in this case, it really was an homage. Hope that semi clear things up!
UP THIS
UP
It wasn't a comeback so much as the second half of their debut, showing the "velvet" side of their concept versus "red" Happiness. Ice Cream Cake and Automatic followed the same pattern when they brought in Yeri.
it's a remake single, not a cover, meaning it is their own song.
After all these years I’m just now finding out be natural is a ses remake lol
Ice cream cake is a very special era. It's the start of OT5, they got their first win and they also became much more recognized! Irene mentioned that she feels like this is truly her "debut" since it was the first song with Yeri.
"Dumb Dumb isn't just Kpop at it's audicious and cognizant, it's the genre's untouchable masterpiece." - Billboard
One of my favorite comment of Red Velvet MV is from "Automatic" says "This is back in the golden days when the girls were still r&b divas, before they matured into fruits" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can't wait to see the journey you're going on~
Thank you so much for the series with Red Velvet~ Can't wait for tomorrow
They still do Rnb, they always switch
With Happiness, Be Natural, Automatic and Ice Cream Cake Red Velvet came out of the gate showing their Red and their Velvet sides
That's why I love them.. At the beginning I didn't like velvet side until outn come out
Aw sad that you missed out Automatic! It was released alongside Ice Cream Cake actually (a double title track situation). It’s full on velvet just like Be Natural but with no rap parts! 🤩
As a fan from the beginning, let’s just say I don’t wanna go through what happened during their debut again 😅 SM had so much going on with their artists and as a result, these girls received some hate.
And yeah the ads were a normal thing for SM music videos at that time 🤣
ikr, i was waiting for their reaction of automatic :(
i remember they had to take down the debut mv because of the controversial scenes. everything was just so rushed back then, even the debut date too, like they barely gave us trailers, etc
We literally reacted?
@@gina9736 they did reActed to automatic

Lolol SM trash here too🤚🤚. RED VELVET n EXO stan
RED VELVET WILL FOREVER BE THE CONCEPT QUEENS.❤️🧡💙💚💜
during dumb dumb era it was really overwhelming to me idk why maybe because during happiness the gp literally cancelled RV and called them names such 'failure' and other horrible things then during ICC the gp was divided, people started to recognize them with their sound but also the Yeri hate train started because of her being added to the group, then Dumb Dumb era came and that's where everything cooled down ig?
Redvelvet was the first group that catch me for kpop, peek a boo and red flavor in 2016/2017 was my bop song in that years
As a ReVeluv, I gotta let you in on the obvious 6th member of Red Velvet.....
This girls know how to deliver happiness to us, and im happy that you going to stan red velvet too
Yay more red velvet! THE CONCEPT QUEENS.💖🧡💙💚💜
(Sorry in advance for such a long comment, I’m just very excited about the series! 😅)
It made me super happy to hear you acknowledge that they’re a group that has been through the eras, still maintaining their relevance in the current climate of k-pop.
I can’t wait for the rest of the series!
@@Lyf4rMusic Oh wow… they really had the hate coming from everywhere! Thankfully our girls overcame. 🥲
Since the beginning great song with awesome vocals, their music is really timeless.
this series is going soooo amazing!!!! and such a nice throwback cuz going back on their catalog is a journey as well. watching how versatile they are and how they can travel from every concept so easily is mind blowing, the talent jumps out 🗣️
I discovered Red Velvet thanks to Monster by IRENE AND SEULGI. I think the group is amazing! They have great tracks, anyways, enjoy it!
How did you find Monster?
My least favorite XD in velvet side i prefer psyco and look
@@rossanascarati2720 I can understand that. Both beautiful.
my favorites too yoooo!!! :D
I knew RV at Ice Cram Cake era and became REALLY interested in them watching Be Natural and Automatic, because it made me realize how versatile they were, so my first comeback was Dumb Dumb and that moment I became a reveluv, they've been my favorite group since then
Still, my favorite group is Red Velvet ♥ Red Velvet is the beginning of two concepts.
icc definitely was the song that put them on the map (and it was their 1st comeback), but dumb dumb is the song that took kpop by a storm. i remember that era like it was yesterday, wherever i go on the internet everyone was talking about them even non fans, and domestically it received a massive amount of love it was played everywhere in korea/tv shows/kdramas, it was THAT song.
I remember my teenage years red velvet is one of the groups that I'm excited whenever they have new music.
Edit: saw on discord that you got the info👍🏻
Esosa if I remember correctly, you got goosebumps when you heard the snippet of Automatic in the guide, that song came out the same time as Ice Cream Cake. Definitely check it out once you are done with the marathon😊
Fun fact🤓: Be Natural was a song originally by S.E.S (1st gen gg from sm) and Irene, Seulgi and Wendy actually covered it as trainees (Irene + Seulgi - dance and Wendy did the vocal for it)
(Also side note: you guys actually saw a cover of Be Natural already 🤭during a deukae live stream, 2hyeon concert stage)
9 months late BUT I WAS THERE FOR THEIR DEBUT 😩✋🏾 and the girlies were pissed 😂😂 not necessarily at Red Velvet tho
At the time f(x) was having their red light era comeback and a lot was going on regarding their former member Sulli (rip 💔).
The group and the MV got a lot of unwarranted scrutiny and hate, but a few weeks later they dropped “Be Natural” and by then everyone had calmed down, retracted their hate claims towards RV, and began to admit what I knew all along, Happiness is a banger 😂
It all worked out in the end bc ppl then began to understand their “Red” and “Velvet” concepts (with “Red” songs performing extremely well in Korea and “Velvet” songs unsurprisingly doing well internationally). Red Velvet gave something for everyone so everyone was happy in the end.
just so you know, there is a longer version of Be Natural with a second verse from the girls!
Happiness had a mild reaction. Dumb Dumb kicked them up into top tier
i arrived in seoul the day of happiness debut and it was everywhere haha i was overwhelmed
Always fun hearing interesting stories about fellow ReVeluv's starting journey with our cake girls :)
Bombings and demonstrations of the power of weapons still take place somewhere on this planet and claim thousands of lives every year.

my favorite 3rd generation K-pop girl group Red Velvet 😍😍😍😻😻😻
7 days is just too short to get to know red velvet fr!! they're sooo good and talented
Dumb Dumb is so iconic. The bass. The beat. The vocals. THE VIDEO tooooooo! It's one of my all time favorites in terms of MV/title tracks.
OMG, THE MEMORIES ARE ME BACK IN THIS SONGS, SO BEAUTIFUL
red velvet best gg of all time
The Velvet is so smooth.
Happiness is one of my favorite songs from red velvet 💓
yay!! we're being fed 🥰
Thr nostalgia, that catchy part in Happiness was my ringtone for like a year back then
23:00 exactly what happened to me, played dumb dumb 25x a day when i first heard it
How about Automatic?!!
I started into them since Ice cream cake ! That song so catchy af 😂🤚 also fast paced dammnnn 😆
There's a clip somewhere when they are just about to debut first time with this Happiness song in front of reporters and you can see clearly how nervous Wendy and Joy is, even Irene looks worried... except Seulgi who is smiling from the start to the time they gonna start the song. They have came so far...
lol the way they reacted when they saw the fake(?) ad🤣🤣🤣
Esosa would have LOVE Automatic but regardless pretty happy you guys are taking a look to Red Velvet 🙌🏻
i love them so muchhh
bro i was alr so excited to see the guide reaction and then i opened it on my pc and saw theres alr a day 2 as well lets goo :D
tbh this week has been a Lot and this is gonna be so good for relaxing and vibing at the end of the day, thank you!!!
as for the Be Natural: yeah.. suits... they rly knew how to quickly show their concepts huh
P.S. If you ever need any good Videos I could totally help you out with that if you need it, also just so you know most of the high notes or really any notes you hear in the back is usually Wendy sometimes it's Seulgi or maybe Joy!
dumb dumb is so ICONIC
everything about it
I Love RedVelvet 😍😍
What the helll wowww my godd you made my day😭
If i remember correctly "Happiness" had mixed opinions, beacause the sudden debut was in the middle of a ongoing sm scandal which was pretty huge.
Icc is mostly loved in korea but also overseas
i was crying with your reaction to the ad in ICC 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that always takes me out. idk if you guys get to it in the next days but if you don't, you should definitely check out Automatic after you're done with everything! it was a dual title with ICC, with ICC being Red side and Automatic being Velvet side. if you liked Be Natural you'll definitely love that one! (also agree so much about Be Natural. get that man outta there)
ah, another thing about Be Natural is that the camerawork and editing style are definitely Shim Jaewon's brand. he's a coreographer that also worked with Irene & Seulgi in Naughty.
this has been so much fun! i think it's a testament to the quality of RV's music that you know their songs without having watched the mv's. when i first got into RV, i listened to their entire discography for a while before even thinking of checking out the music videos simply because the songs by themselves got me hooked.
dumb dumb is honestly one of the best comebacks ever like the mv is one of the best, choreo is one of the best, styling is one of the most memorable, the whole The Red album is god tier. i wish i had gotten to know them at that time 😭
If you like Dumb Dumb, you'll also love Huff and Puff.
You'lll only hear the lyric version, but it's very energetic.
SR14B means SM Rookies '14(2014) Boys...it's the pre debut project of SM. That includes red velvet members as well (except Joy) as part of SR14G. Trainees part of this project are introduced to the public prior their debut.
So glad you guys are doing a red velvet dive!! They're kind of insane, both talent-wise and personality-wise lmao
Also, in case you didn't know, Yoohyeon and Gahyeon covered Be Natural and it's........ I died
i was back in eight grade when red velvet debuted and i was a new kpop fan. watching happiness for the first time really sucked me in but not in the way that i stanned them immediately. i think the song was very catchy and good but the visuals really dragged me in as a high school girl who's really into pretty stuff and red velvet is REALLY PRETTY. i remember liking irene right off the bat lmao but i'm still not a hardcore fan. i think the song was generally good back then in 2014, like you said it's very much sounds like of that time and i enjoyed it. kpop music evolved for the past years and i can say that it's not that much of complex song like the ones we hear these days but i really enjoyed rv's songs when i was still in high school. ice cream cake dropped and yeri debuted and that's what really sucked me in with this group. i loved their concepts a lot from then on aside from falling in love with yeri. i've been a reveluv since 2015 and red velvet hasn't failed me with every song and comeback. they just keep getting better and better with their concepts which are so unique and never been done before. i love them a lot!
1:18 If you look closely at this scene, you can see Yeri with a red ribbon in the middle.
I wish I could go back in time 2014 just to Stan RED VELVET 😭
I joined the fam in post-Psycho era.
Thank you for your reaction and I feel happy with you
For Be Natural, it comes out from what i remember, out of nowhere, hahaha.
Thank youu for the reactionn
i hope yall didnt skip automatic lmaoooo, if this is chronological it woulda came with ice cream cake, it was a double title track
Be natural is so underrated 😭
When SM was going to debut a new girl group I had been super excited. I can still remember the SMROOKIES video of Irene and Seulgi. I was very excited because I thought, oh wow this is very different from GG and f(x) and then came "happiness". I had been very confused and thought why? But now I love the song 🤣
Being a reveluv is such Bad Boy era, I never regretted stanning these queens
Ice Cream Cake is my favorite song by them! :)
