    Another bike from Honda made for a purpose, not a spec sheet. The NT1100 is one of those rigs that someone will own for 10-15 years and be reluctant to give it up, even then. Doesn't whack you over the head right away, but - after having a few Honda products - over time you fall in love and really appreciate the extreme thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and build quality. Gotta be the manual with quickshifter, though!

      still, if the NC had the same suspension adjustability as the Versys 650, I wouldn't be so in the fence.

      I own a 1998 Honda ST 1100 (Pan European) and it’s been a wonderful tourer.

    The more I here about this bike the more I like it. Great job Honda. I owned a CTX700 dct and it was one of my favorites motorcycles of all time. Now you just need to bring it to the USA 🇺🇸 👏

    Great honest review old chap. You are fast becoming one of my favourite TH-cam reviewers. Good work. I’m not particularly interested in this as a purchase as I love my new AT 1100 Standard. I agree (although, I’m obviously biased) that the AT engine is an absolute beaut. I’ve been riding 34 years, have owned all genre’s of bikes (including doing 100,000 miles dispatching in London on my old beloved 750 AT). And agree you don’t necessarily have to have 160bhp + on the road. In fact on most British roads they are just like a caged Cheetah. In my advancing years I’m all for well developed real world bikes, just like the AT & by the looks of it NT1100….que the whatever old man comments…😂👍

      At seventy, after fifty years of continuously riding long and hard, I feel this bike may be my next (final?) new bike purchase. It’s easy to build a bike that attends to geriatric necessities, hard to build one that also appeals to the those not desiring/requiring those same features. Based on this review, Honda seems to have struck the balance between senior sedentary and squid sporty - no small task. So, should they actually hit the showroom floor in North America, it’s bye-bye beloved VFR (I’ll still keep a wee knobby shed bike) and hello Honda NT1100.

    Android Auto/Apple Carplay is unironically my favourite feature of this bike. If I was in the market for a touring bike I might get this bike just for that, not as intimidating for a small guy as an Africa Twin or Goldwing.
    Many bikes come with big and nice dash these days, it's a good way to take advantage of it. Much welcome improvement over fiddling with phone mount and waterproof case while slowly killing the battery.

    I watch plenty of motorcycle videos and at the end of these test i say to myself,, i'll just stick to my Harley where you can enjoy the ride and scenery. My days of pushing the bike into corners is over. Why there are so many videos on performance instead of enjoyment are why a lot of unskilled rides get into trouble

      The RT is bigger and smoother and more cushy. This feels a little more nimble and compact. The 270 twin is very nice too - always loved the Africa Twin engine. But the boxer is super smooth on the motorway.

      I ride a 1200RT. Is this 85% of the 1250 RT’s capability at 60% of the price? If so, it seems like a good deal.

      Since I’m struggling with a similar NT/Versys decision, except I haven’t eliminated the new Tracer GT, which are you inclined to buy?

      @@UncleWally3 Hi, Im inclined to go with the NT1100, tho the Versys engine is so smooth. I like the fact that the NT isn't full of electronic gizmos, for me its a manual gearbox. The extra money for the DCT could be used for either a quick shifter or towards a suspension revalve... Not that Im thinking that the bike needs it. Certainly value for money, no nonsense bike. (The Tracer, nice engine, build quality imho, wasn't very good)

    Honda made a commuter that you can go proper touring on! So all the NT750 owners that want to go further than the office and back!Honda made a perfect motorcycle for them! Definitely not a sport turing bike but a commuting / turing bike especially in the DCT version. For me the looks are to much Xadv on stilts. A big bike for DCT lovers that don't want /need / afford a Goldwing.

    Actually the place where you start is not "just outside" Barcelona; it's Morera de Montsant in the Tarragona province, at some 150km from Barcelona and it will take you 2 hours to arrive there. Great roads there, though.

      The NT1100 sounds sort of raucous to me while the ST1100 is silky smooth and quiet.

    I was planning to go for tracer 9 but now got confused😝. Could you compare the two since they almost fall at the same range? I only hate the sound of twin compared to 3 and 4 cylinders. It just lakes the excitement you sometimes need on the road 😂

      I haven't ridden either bike, but I think the Tracer9 with CC would be best. If the NT1100 had shaft drive, I might feel differently...👍😺

    Really impressed with your review. May well get these as replacements for our Fleet Blood Bike FJR's. Also impressed with the roads you were riding. What roads were they in Spain as we're touring there next year (travel restrictions allowing).

      Not cramped. Their 250 mile claim seems doable on the motorway, if not a little more if you properly nursed it along

    Having ridden the Africa Twin with DCT when it first appeared and recently with the latest rendition, I found an enormous improvement. I’ve gone from hating it to wanting it. To this end, I’d like to know what differences, if any, the AT’s DCT has with the NT’s version.

      I think the 6 axis IMU feeds into DCT on the AT so that it knows to minimise shifting when cornering. But it felt pretty much the same to me, having tried both

      Manual. They said the weight and cost wasn’t worth it. Unfortunately you have to get off the bike to adjust it tho

    Always used to run my NC750 in Sport mode which pretty much emulated what you'd do yourself.
    Does this not have a Sport mode?

    Looks really good. Brilliant as a touring bike, I'd much rather have one of them than an adventure bike and I'd also expect it to take the miles being a Honda....

    I was getting kind of frustrated waiting for you to put it in auto and 'sport' mode. It really does transform any Honda DCT bike but it seems like you weren't aware of this.

    How does the Honda NT1100 compare with the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT? I'm thinking the Yamaha has a slight edge on performance with the triple engine, the Yamaha comes equipped with an IMU and semi active suspension. Honda has a better display and perhaps is a more comfortable bike to ride due in part to the good wind protection and comfort seat option. I have no interest in the DCT model so I don't see that as an advantage. I assume cost will be similar. I prefer the looks of the Honda pending the opportunity to see one at a dealership. I assume you have ridden both, what are your thoughts?

      Surely they're utterly different bikes? Every test says this is a comfortable but not particularly tourer. Perhaps more like tge F900XR? Tracer is very much a revvy charismatic sporty tourer.

      For Tracer 9 you can have the comfort or even comfort heated seat. Just check Tracer 9 accessories catalog

    Quite a good looking bike which I am sure will appeal to a lot of riders however the bland colour options don't do the bike any favours , it would look so much better if Honda had painted it Red (like the old VFR800)

    Briliant DCT GEAR for driving most time in 2nd gear🥵 .. the best use its automatic mode S1 or S2 and manual schifting down .. but you need 10kkm to learning schifting realy good DCT .. test driver you must should know how to drive a dct transmission beforehand.. 🥶

      Extra weight and cost. Today's chains - though not as fuss-free as shafts - are easy to maintain and last a very long time. Easier to fix, too.

    Shame on Honda. You can try it but it is impossible to receive it before June or even July. My dealership just told me over the phone and I ordered it earlier this year. I live in Switzerland

    Honda have fxcked up here with this motorcycle, in fact with their whole range. they have ditched the shaft drive just to make their range cheap. NO CX 500 shaft anymore, NO NT shaft bikes anymore, NO Deauville shaft bike anymore, NO Pan European shaft bike anymore, NO sports tourer shaft bike anymore. BIG mistake...they loose me as a customer. They have lost the police as a customer, they have lost the NHS as customers. Nobody wants a bike which needs maintaining after every days riding. What a bunch of mongs at Honda. They used to own the market and now they have lost it. Who the hell wants a touring bike which needs chain adjustment, cleaning and lubricating maintenance every 300 miles?...answer....NOBODY. Bye bye HONDA you have killed yourself on touring bikes. I am going to BMW or the new Triumph with shaft drives which require little to no servicing in 10,000 miles.

    I’m so disappointed in this bike. Not only was I hoping it would look more like the cb1000x or cb1100x concepts. But I was hoping we would get the In-line 4 out of the cb1000r. I wanted a SPORT-tourer, like a Japanese s1000xr. Instead we got a “decent” twin that puts down less power than it should, in a bike that looks like a slightly less fat goldwing. Huge swing and a miss for me 👎

      Other companies already make that bike. Looks like they wanted to make a touring bike that doesn't weight 700+lbs and is easy to maintain.
      To me it would be an ideal bike to take relaxing trips on with my wife without the size and price of the Wing.
      Not for everyone but I think it has its place.

      My thoughts exactly. Too many people jump straight in and think DCT means automatic and always seem to emphasise that. It doesn't. That is just something it can do if you want it to. Those who are critical of it often haven't spent much time with it and haven't really learned how to use it to best advantage. You can ride in full manual mode and it is a much more convenient way to change gear than clutch and footpedal or even just foot pedal with a quick shifter. It does take some time to adapt and adjust to DCT, as I found myself, but once you have it is great. I was sceptical at first but I've been riding with it for nearly 3 years now and much prefer it (still ride old conventional classic bikes too). I reckon I ride split 50/50 between using manual and auto modes. All that said we all have our own preferences and not everyone will agree with me.

    As commendable as the spec is, this is simply too boring to interest me. I love Honda and have been waiting for this, currently running a VFR 800X and could have been easily tempted to change, but not for this.
    Practical and sensible isn't enough, if I want ultimate practicality I'll take the car. A motorcycle should stir the emotions, this does not. You would never look back at this as you walk away to take a second look, you will never be excited as the garage door opens to reveal this plug ugly lump. Looks and sounds poor, the colours do not help.
    I will wait for the Guzzi V1000 to appear or even have a squint at the new Suzuki GT or ninja 1000 SX, which are at least decent looking/sounding UJM's.

      I've previously thought the same about many Honda bikes, but in my opinion this is a big improvement - the 270 degree parallel twin is one of the most fun engine configurations there is - one of the reasons people are raving about the 700 Yamaha. The looks are of course even more subjective, but I think this looks quite good, nothing like the horrors of the old NT650/700s. Seriously considering finally retiring my VFR750 as the sport touring steed in the stable in favor of this :)

      @@Taarne There is a reason why manufacturers are keen to get everyone onto parallel twins, cheaper and quicker to make, less cylinders, less valves, less machining etc.
      If you want to replace your VFR maybe have a look for a VFR800 X. Similar spec to the NT but with a lovely burbling V4, beautiful single sided swing arm and some superb build quality and finish. Plus, when you open the garage door you wont get the feeling that you've totally given up on life.
      The NT is utterly underwhelming, the front looks like an XADV that's had a botox injection. Every now and again Honda produces an epoch defining bike, this aint it. I would not be surprised if this got a "refresh" quite early in its life.

    Am I the only one who hates TFT screens? The BMW TFT is the worst! I don't need overcomplicated silly gimmicks with too much unnecessary information. I do like the NT though.

    It's supposed to be a touring bike, but the way you rode it is like riding a sports bike. I don't know what is wrong with most people who review a bike, you should adopt your riding depending on the bike you are on. Myself as a touring bike person, it's rare that my bike pass 6K RPM, but you guys, always try to reach the red line (if you're riding sports bike then yes it's supposed to ride like that)

      There's no fun in riding a road like this like a grandma.
      They're aren't racing but rather enjoining the twisties.

      We did some motorway miles too but it’s ridiculously boring to watch and too much wind noise

      To each their own. I've got a Speed Triple and an old VStrom 1000, and I give BOTH the beans (in proper settings) whenever the urge - or need - strikes. I've had a ball on the V in the mountains, and rarely miss an opportunity to pin it on and on-ramp. The Speed is always asking for a kick :). Fun is where you find it.

      @@kugangles9860 lol, definitely I'm not that guy, I'm always faster than the normal traffic, but I don't reach the limit of my rev. This is why the torque was increased to use it, not the RPM

    If it had belt drive and some nice graphics it would tick a lot more boxes for people. Sorry, but it looks too boring with those bland colour schemes.
