- Honda NT1100 | 7,000 mile long term review - KNOX
A few weeks ago, we were pleased to welcome Knox contributor, Chris Moss (Mossy) back to KNOX HQ and some of the most scenic roads in the English Lake District to share his thoughts on his latest long term motorcycle, the Honda NT1100 DCT.
Previously, we'd featured Mossy on his NC750x, a bike that he was hugely smitten with - • Honda NC750x - 20,000 ... . The NT1100 was the next step up in the Honda Touring range. With a bigger engine, more power, and more tech and a higher price tag, the NT1100 DCT was the obvious next step.
But did it live up to the exacting standards of Chris Moss? Watch and find out!
For the full spec of the Honda NT 1100, please check out www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/r....
In this video, Mossy was wearing:
Knox Urbane Pro Utility MK3 -
Knox Urbane Pro Trousers -
Knox Dual Pro Jacket -
Knox Orsa OR3 textile gloves -
Knox Dual Active Base Layers -
In this video, we quoted a Devitt Insurance price. These were based on the below.
*Devitt Insurance Quote is based on Mr Average.
Mr Average is: Based on a 40 year old married Bank Clerk, living in LA13. Kept in a Garage, held full bike license since 2000. Bike has Biketrac and a Datatool S4 C1 Red security. No accidents or claims. Comp cover, 3000 miles, 5 years protected NCD and just SDP use Please see www.devittinsurance.com/.
In the video, Mossy talked about Hyper Pro suspension upgrades. these can be found here - www.performanceparts-ltd.com/. due to the different models on the NT1100, it's best to navigate through and select the correct model for your bike.
Hope you enjoyed this video, please like comment and subscribe, we'll see you next time!

Exactly my impression about these 2 amazing bikes. I own a NC750X DCT and i really like the NT1100, but the NC is just too good to trade it for the bigger sister. A "NC950X DCT" would be great, more power, with a little bit more wind protection and cruise control. Now that would be a motorcycle i would love to own.
Our man, the legend himself! Mossy, we are always glad to see you and your real world reviews.
He's a good guy! Aaron KNOX
I’m not really in the market for NT or NC but I’d watch a Mossy review on bathroom cleaning fluids so always a joy to hear his thoughts. What I AM in the market for is a new bike but it may well be a Niken GT and I blame Mr Moss for persuading me to pay attention to the beast. Would love to hear his thoughts on the 2023 model
Such a good video. Great, honest, review of the NT and very nicely edited. I actually owned an NC700 X with the DCT for about 3 years, and can imagine how good the 750 is.
I find myself going back to the NT1100 frequently as a potential replacement for the Blackbird.
Thanks to Knox and Mossy for this 👍
Hey Mossy,
Thanks for the review.
I've been rolling with Hondas since I first picked up an XL250 in 1980.
I rode that bike from Sydney to Stuart town every week to attend Uni back in the day.
When the traffic wasn't crap out of the city it took about 5 hours each way, only 400k.
I've ridden a few Honda bikes over time and recently picked up an NT1100 DCT the bike is a weapon.
Once you work out the riding program and adjust it to suit your needs, the bike is unbelievable.
The top box is expensive and the price in Australia is Horse Shite.
It's a beast, I love it, and everyone who rides it has the same experience, hypercritical people need to get their heads read.
The Honda haters are in force everywhere.
Cheers
Jim
A good honest real world review, a great follow up to the NC750 review. Well done mr Moss.
Thank you! Thank you for making this and the NC video, it's been brilliant. I've test ridden both fairly extensively (which is all relative of course) and I thought I was weird for coming away from it thinking the NC was better. I'm 6ft2 so I fit the NT perfectly...but something wasn't right.
But I do have a knackered right shoulder so I really need the cruise over long distance - shame it's not an option for the NC!
I own the NT1100 dct version for a year, my 2 previous bikes where the Honda ST1100 Pan European, fantastic bike's! I am 6 foot 3 so the size and weight of the NT is perfect for me. Your negatifs are spot on, altough i never change the setting of my windscreen, highest position is perfect for me. The front fender is too short, in the rain you get a lot of spray inside the space of the frontfork behind the windscreen, so i put a fender extender and it was fixed, same for the rear, there i put a tire hugger because of the spray on the back of the legs and also fixed! I must say it is NOT a Pan European but i like it a lot, the DCT is brilliant for my old worn 60+ year hands 😀 the drivingcomfort is top, same as al your pro's, great bike, love it. Greetz from Belgium .

Excellent review, very well done
Nice review as usual.
I've put 6,000 miles on my manual version now, i moved the screen down once after a few miles didn't like the wind and noise so put it back and never moved it since.
Took about 20 minutes to read about and play with left switch gear now have no problems flickicking from Planet Rock to google maps or just plain display.
I regularly get high 50's low 60's when out with boys and can keep my feet up OK at juntions.
Told it sounds Looovley when getting some.
Suit's you Sir 😮
Each to their Own, it's all the bike I'll ever need.
Keep up the good work.
Agreed. Done 33000 miles on my bike (Versys) with manually adjustable screen and only adjusted it a few times. Switch gear....you get used to whatever you're riding regularly.
I have this bike and the negative points what I heard is very unfair. This bike has a lot super positive points and very good quality. Lot of power and stable on road even on very high speeds.
How’s the wind on highway? Also have you road with a passenger?
He did say it's a great bike, especially the wind protection, just that some of the ergonomic design choices are annoying.
@@jDot2414 I ride always with my wife and the bike remains very stable! I haven’t any problem with wind protection I have the fairing on position three. May be I swap this bike with goldwing😀
@@Mike_Dmn thanks for the info! Yes I test drove 2018 gold wing. Amazing machine. Ride safe
Great review and especially comparison with NC
Awesome interview, thank you 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
this reminds me of the HONDA CB-750A. It was a great idea, im glad the idea has returned. Manuals are a dangerious method in cities and suburbs. Wonderful off road
+1 for a future nc950!
Thanks for a thorough honest review which highlights the many shortcomings hence the reason I didn’t buy one which is a shame as it is a nice bike. In the end I spent similar money on a approved used BMW R1250 RT and have never looked back 👍
Mossy's review of the NC750x helped convince me to grab that. Sounds to me like he'd rather stick with that than the step up! What's funny is it's only 45 pounds heavier than the NC, but the NC carries the weight so much lower it feels lighter than it is at moderate speeds. They don't sell this one in the US, but looks to be about 2x the price of the NC. Interesting to see how much he likes the DCT. As a returning geezer, I love mine, and I have to say I think it makes for safer riding. In a situation where you need to concentrate on progressive braking or swerving safely, it's nice not to have to add downshifting to the workload.
Had a honda pan european st1300 remeber mossy on that years ago how does this compare? As loved the pan but
bit of a heavy pig does this feel lighter more easy to live with thanks great review 👍
Needs to make a petition to Honda marketing requesting NC900X DCT for 2025 models line :)
Thanks for the great review !
Chris Moss is the best, real world tester out there.
Brilliant review of this bike.
Thanks! Aaron KNOX
8:59 - this is just a matter of retraining your muscle memory though, you make a big thing of it but it's the same when you change cars. A lot of switches are in different positions. Just put in the miles & get used to it, it'll be fine in the end.
It would definitely help if they were illuminated, so night riding you could easily see what they were. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour absolutely, that'd be a great idea. Even just a single LED over the switchgear would work.
I think the intention of the screen being inconveniently adjustable is misunderstood. I suspect its adjustable to fit various "buyers". Such it allows a level of height that suits a variety of people and with a "fixed screen" approach it doesn't eliminate buyers. Not necessarily to be moved about once its set for overall use by the "same" rider. Why? No need. I keep the screen at position 4 and that suits fine for my riding and stature and I have no need (or desire) to change it as its simply unnecessary. So for me its like having a "fixed screen" set precisely for my height. Works fine. I had BMWs that had electronically adjustable screens and the vast majority of the time I set it where I liked it most and didn't move it. The NT1100 is a competent machine and wonderfully capable.
I had the same thoughts too... The screen is to be adjusted to rider's height and preference... Once set at the ideal position, it should be fine... Granted another rider is riding the bike and his statute is different, might need to readjust the screen though.
I find the lack of electronically adjustable screen baffling.. Considering I use it on my commuter 125CC honda forza maxi scooter all the time! When I'm on a main road I'll push it in the up position, same for rain, however living in a mediterranean island, it gets hot quickly, so when I'm filtering or in cities, it comes down to let air through. Same when its raining, I need to see what's in front of me, so I'll need to put it out of the way to focus on navigating congested streets.
I'm in the market for a cheaper touring bike for me and my wife so I'm still going to take a look at the NT and I suspect that despite the windscreen issue, I'll be getting one because it looks competent at everything it does and has carplay so no need to get an external GPS attached.
Electronic screens are shit as they add weight and are another thing to fail. Why some aren't adjustable on the move is the mechanism may not be strong enough if you adjust it at very high speed.
@@I_am_Thursday My honda scooter with electric screen spends its life in salty air with sand blast as I live near a beach, gets rained on and has extreme UV and heat in summer. It's always outside for the past 5 years and works flawlessly. Every year I just have off take off the screen and clean the grime and spray silicone spray to keep it running smoothly.
It's just a motor, lifting a piece of plastic, its not rocket science. There's nothing to go wrong lol.
I’m pretty sure in Australia we have to have our hands on the bars whilst moving - so the windscreen is not an issue here! Happy to be corrected by a fellow Aussie
Fabulous review, a pleasure to listen to. Strikes me Honda are so close, yet so far from making an excellent machine with the NT.
Beautiful bike in black!
I love the bike
I'm Looking For A Bike, Not Quite Ready To Write A Check Just Yet , BUT , These Reviews Are A Huge Help , Preciate It
Welcome glad they're helpful ☺️ Aaron Knox
These two reviews have hands down been the best bike reviews I've ever seen. I agree seems Honda just needs an upgraded more powerful NC750X and they will be off to the races. I wish they would at least change to a belt or shaft drive and add a TFT screen to it in the coming year.
Honda likes their buttons..when I had a Goldwing I felt like I was in an F16 fighter jet. That’s the reason I now ride a R1250RT 👍
In North America 2up it would be the NT all the way. Pity we don't have it here. I have the AT and like it a lot but in town slow 2up its a handful
Enjoyed that. Ta.
Anyone, what is the location where they are filming this video? Nice landscape and winding roads.
Thanks, all shot in the English Lake District. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour Thank you very much! Great videos you make!
We need to get Mossy on a Honda X-ADV 750. Dunno why, but i think he would love it.
Honestly... this bike seems more suited to the United States. I love bikes like this. Honda had the VFR1200X, but the street ADV thing had not taken off yet. By the time they got it here, a lot of us bought something else. I had an Aprilia Caponord 1200... loved it to death for 5 years and 40k before it was stolen. (Best bike I ever had....) Just sold a K1200GT and I realy want a big horse like this. I could make an Africa work, I could make a Transalp work (no cruise, wtf...)... but honestly this NT1100 is a better trim and size and what I enjoy riding, a big fast stable upright horse. Daily riders, all weather riders get used to big bikes in the States. Hope Honda brings it here... or, after a dozen Hondas in my life-- I'll end up buying something else... again. 🤷🏻
Plus... now I have a 45lb dog for who I must build a padded crate in which he can ride on the back. 😆
nc750 with the hornet/transalp engine (but keep the frunk) would be awesome
Love Mossy
Aaayyyye Mossy!!
Re screen adjust-ability: Suzuki made that mistake on the vstrom for a couple of years (one model year), but they learned the lesson quickly.
Once you adjust it, you keep it there. At least this is gonna be true for 70 % of the riders in my opinion.
These in the US yet?
Best review I've ever seen, so unscripted and raw honesty. Definitely changed my mind on buying one and have decided on the new Transalp 750. Thanks for your honesty 👍
Glad it was helpful! Aaron KNOX
Anyone know what boots mossy is wearing?
Never read the spec sheets. I cant tell you how good my Tracer 7 is, and i have bikes with double the power. Sometimes less is definitely more. Now im off to buy a 1200 and never go above 4000rpm.....
Anyone who only rides a bike and does not use a car gets my respect. Ironically I am in the market for a third bike and it's between the NC750X-DCT or the NT1100DCT.
An interesting review and one that surprised me. I own the an NC750X and the NT1100 and in my humble opinion think the NT is way ahead of the NC (which is a brilliant bike btw). I have done 10k on the NC and 3.5K on the NT having just returned from a Euro tour down to Switzerland. I find the the NT be easy to handle and can completely flat foot (I am 5 10) the bike. The screen is not something that bothers me although can see the benefit of it being adjustable. The NT was fully loaded for a two week trip and handled superbly in the Alps and never at anytime was concerned going around the switch backs. Anyways, Mossy is a top bloke and it all about opinions.
i have an NC and thinking about buying an NT100. could elaborate why do you think the NT100 is way ahead of the NC? How ist the power difference of the gine? The NC has a lot of torque which is earlier available compared to the NT...
@@marcelmuller7623 The NT handles better and gives a lot more confidence in corners, it far more comfortable and provides better weather and wind protection, it is more powerful at all levels in the rev band,. The build quality is better and better equipped. It is a heavier bike but I traded a VFR 1200X and it feels really light in comparison. I am in my mid 60s and have no issues moving it around. I really do love the NC but think the NT is better. But, do not take my word for it because you may hate it. I would suggest at least two test rides to really get the feel of the bike.
@@blearyview2254 Many thanks! The XADV 750 would be another option vs. NT1100. Any experience?
@@marcelmuller7623 Sorry but I have not. I did see a special edition XADV yesterday in the dealer and it was fully kitted out and looked a stunning bike. It certainly a bike I could see myself owning in the future. But get this, the fully kitted out bike with just about every package was an eye watering £17,000, I kid you not.
Pfftt.... Bloody brilliant bike.
Can you do a review on a 100 % perfect bike
Any particular reason to choose dct over manual? Thinking about an NT to replace my Crosstourer (which I love but it's too heavy after having both knees replaced). Can't decide on transmission, read some dodgy reviews on Goldwing dct's chewing their clutches after slow riding manoeuvres.
Ride a DCT for any decent length of time and I'd be very surprised if you chose manual. I sold a MT-09 which was my dream bike, and am much happier on the NC-DCT, which on paper sounds mad, but it's just so good at what it does. As Mossy says in his NC review too.
Do you drive a manual or automatic car? Question answered
Hate the auto
@@iaincorser7079 Can you logically describe why you hate automatics?
@@fightsims1252 I didn't say I hate all automatics, I said I hate MY automatic.
By far the best reviewer per se.respect mossey. I had an NC and preferred it to this bike put hornet engine in NC
I have an electronic screen on my RT: I adjusted it once as I left the showroom and have never touched it since. I don't know why you're obsessing about the manual function. Just set it and forget it. Likewise, accept the fact that you could be Snow White's assistant. A bike which needs to fit everyone up to, say, 6ft 6ins is going to feel a bit tall for you at times. Get a scooter if you don't like it. The NT's main problem is its chain drive. Had Honda put shaft drive on the bike it would be a great, cheaper alternative to the RT. Many mature riders (including me) just can't be bothered with chains any more and will disregard the NT for this reason.
I can sense an NC or NT800 with the Hornet engine coming
I believe that is called Transalp 😉
I guess youre right, but it's a Honda that can be used for touring, with the Hornet-engine at least 🙂
@@eivindvh87 Yep, not for me though .....not that I'm looking at the mo anyway lol
Always fun to imagine what the next bike might be 😁
Not gonna happen with the Transalp/Hornet engine. Take a look at the angle of the twin engine, no space for the frunk then 🙂
Agree with the comments about the NC750 I had one last year, really grew to love it. How about an NC750 (TA), with the Trans Alp engine and better suspension, it would be ideal.
Yes, I think that was what Mossy was eluding to, an NC 950! Aaron KNOX
But then you wouldn’t get DCT. Seems the Transalp derailed the NC850 designs with an updated NC DCT that was patent registered 3 years or so ago, and that now seem to have been forgotten.
Always Gen 1 bikes is incomplete products but give it 2-3 years the models will mature into something more better .
I test rode one of these and liked lots of of things about it but that LHS cluster was nightmare for me and the way to adjust the screen was nuts. It was also felt very bulky at low speed. Glad I got something else.
What did you get ?
I own a Pan European 1300. The screen is electric, so I can fine tune the position on the move while both hands are on the grips. Think Honda have gone back to the Flinstones with the NT screen. Also, you can't put a full face helmet in the panniers. The seat I found to be too high having only a 30" leg. Have also ridden the N T. I wasn't impressed after owning a Pan.
So I should get a brand new Africa Twin DCT and make it my very own touring version?
Might as well, tbh - you get a slightly higher state of tune, more BHP. I love my AT DCT - didn't think I would but I'm getting the hang of it now.
Totally agree, i have an NC750 DCT and i love, but yes could do with 10-20 more ponies
if thats a big and heavy bike whats with mine fjr 1300
Listening to him and what he doesn’t like (I’m not done watching… commenting as I go) I wonder if he’d be thrilled on a BMW R1250RT.
Honda left the electrical adjustment of the screen for the new NT models. Marketing...
the NC750X with an Africa twin engine and uprated suspension would do the job well
To put it in perspective, the triumph 1215 se had everything this bike lacks, it was launched 10 years ago!
The Gen 1 GL1800 had the same stupid screen adjustment. Hated it! My 23 year old BMW RT has an electric screen and it is fantastic.
I was between NT1100 and for Tracer 9 Gt+. I love Honda but my new bike is a fantastic, full of excitment and powerful Yamaha.
Good choice. Tracer 9GT will be way more exciting! Aaron KNOX
The problem with the screen is that they managed to fit an electrically adjustable screen to the
And forza 125.
That being said, the screen on my 350 scooter had to be replaced. Despite it being adjustable, the protection and buffetting was not good enough.
Point is i would rather a well designed fairing/screen that is fixed instead of an electrical one which is shit.
I couldn’t be less interested in a No Taste 1100 but I’ll watch anything with Mossy in it
Why is this not here in America?😢
EXACTLY what I'm thinking too - the NC750X has so many 'PLUS' so that it is a real outstanding bike! ... the only wish I have - a bit more power and cruise control !! ... SO HONDA - DO YOU HEAR US - PLEASE DO IT !!
I don't mind to stop and adjust the screen at least it is adjustable in 5 positions. It is better than a non adjustable screen at all like Harley Davison and others. Maybe next time Honda will make it non adjustable and increases the price by 500 dollars. 😂
Could not disagree more with this review. The only problem in this case is the rider. He needs to stick with smaller machines. Riders like myself who have had Goldwings, Pans and Arica Twins don't have any problems. Not sure he knows how to set a bike up either. I've done 7k miles now in every environment never once has the rear end bottomed out I'm 20 stone and carry full luggage. The screen never needs touching but if you must then its hardly an effort to move it. Had an electric screen on my wing and never used it! Also great value for money.
Overall it offers a lot. I read your comment. You can check my ride of this bike, just drop by, you may like my content.
Exactly. 👍
I done about 7k on the bike and love it. Having to stop and alter the screen is not an issue. It takes about 30 seconds and if I’m honest, mine stays up period. The controls on the left grip take a few hours to get used to. I’ve never had an issues riding either. I guess it’s horses for corses.
Totally agree.👍
Some lovely bikes out there but at nearly 70 I can't swing my leg over the high tail end. Stick to my old bikes more pensioner friendly shape
Why can Honda not make a shaft driven bike. I’m sick to death with chain adjustments. I’ll stick with my NT700.
Ill keep my Pan 1300 with electric screen. Tried the NC750 and liked it but not enough to buy. Nc is easy to ride but never exciting. Plus if youre over 6 foot nothing fits like a Pan. I have a Versys 650 but doubt id sell 2 bikes to buy one cos i dont believe one bike can do it all. Tracer 9 is good but shit screen. I dont buy bmw or ducati. Suzuki have some decent new stuff but i think ill buy a classic. Nt 1100 will be very cheap in a few years cos of poor reviews.
I'll stick with my FJR
'Really frugal'. 48 mpg is not frugal. Gentle touring on my Tracer 900 gives an indicated 72 mpg.
Yes the Tracer 900 is very good on fuel, it’s actually better than the tracer 700.
So stopping and raising the screen takes how long in reality? Hardly "faffin about".
Think the point is that on other bikes you just lift it up. Whereas on the motorway for example, you need to wait to find the nearest services and then pull in and do it. Comparatively its a pain. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Consumption is exaggerated for this engine.
Why ? I find quit the opposite to be true most people underestimate their construmption because they count it in ideal situations. For example i had a vstrom people told me it would have close to 5 fuel consumption 6 tops and i had an average of 6.5 being heavier and having a big windscreen.
Why is God's name do people insist on playing *background* music in the *foreground*.
Let's admit that Honda is also making mistakes and not all their bikes are miracles.
Not really fair to Honda to have an old man testing a bike. At his age every bike near a 1000cc is to heavy.
If Honda truly wants this to be accepted as a touring bike, the windscreen would be power adjustable. Simple. No further discussion.
I'll keep buying low km ST1300s until a meteor takes out the planet. I'm not about to buy an adventure bike with a touring label applied by the Honda marketing mafia.
Honda is slowly losing the plot and it started with the discontinuation of the ST1300 in 2013. After riding Hondas since 1977, I'm looking hard at the other makes. Yamaha still makes the FJR1300....hmmmmm.
Old farts like me who could afford to purchase this bike won't because of the non electric screen. Even a 10 year old ST1300 has that.
The man is obviously loosing his marbles...
With all due respect. Wrong pilot to ride a big bike.
I love that you are such an avid rider.
I know everyone is different, but it seems that so many just like to ride when the weather is nice.
I’m a daily rider myself. Rain or shine!
My bike is my only mode of transport as well. 🖤🦾🖤
Jesus he sounds like victor Meldrew. I own a tracer and have taken this bike on a good spin.. the tft comes up between 5 and 10seconds not 30 so exaggeration definitely.
Although the windshield is annoying I would happily swap a full tft with android auto for my adjustable screen.
Ultimately the bike is boring and bland thats why I got the tracer. I think he is nice picking abit with his points personally
Honda needs to redesign this thing….good concept, rather lacking in execution…..and I just hate how it looks..
Guy.on the right sounds a bit lame😂
Looks like a 2 wheeled Nikon
A two wheeled camera?
@@bikegeist i think he is referring to the yamaha niken .
@@user-jk3dz2st7u I know. I was being willfully ignorant. :D
Sad that honda refuses to import motorcycle to the USA. Per the US honda will not carry or sale them. There market the super sport bikes for the boys to 35 years of age. And older riders the gold wings. The dealers say it hurt the sales of these bikes. The only target market honda has is the EU. Oh well I am re locating to the Philippines permanently so it will be crf300l rally. The politics has become Marxist like the F'N EU.
Totally useless! No real info! No list of pros and cons, just bull.
How do you lot not get it, or is it a youtuber lack of mental capacity...thing. It's for SAFETY. Adjust the screen before the ride or next time you're stopped. They don't want you to be faffing around whilst riding, Or do you want to fix your makeup on the run too...
That angry old neighbor that everyone on the street hate, you should review sheep.
