I came to this video just expecting to gain some insight, a few combos, and learn a couple more things about my main I might not have known... I had seen how indepth you go on your general guides, but I wasn't expecting anything like that for a character specific guide. The Amount of information you cram into these videos is incredible. A player could spend weeks improving their game just practicing and committing to memory things found in this video. Thanks for being awesome Izaw.
So well made!!! Thank you for having me in IzAw! Enjoyed this a lot and hope more Yoshi mains pop up. I would also be happy to answer any other questions about Yoshi if needed!
@@julianramos9368 Down Throw to Up air can be a 50/50 dependant on DI, Egg Throw leads into a lot of his aerials which is threatning offstage with Nair and Fair or high up with Up air. EDIT: The following has been patched as of version 4.0.0! Interestingly enough, when Yoshi pulls his head back to perform his forward smash, the jostle hitbox doesn't really pull back with him. This means that there is a bit of empty space in front of him that cannot be occupied by other grounded fighters. Certain grabs and even dash attacks with poorly sized hitboxes relative to a character's frame will actually be completely unable to hit Yoshi from the front. This happens even as he is being physically pushed away by his opponent, provided Yoshi is not pushed to an edge. Here are some examples, though there are more: All grabs: Marth, Lucina, Roy, Chrom, Cloud, Peach, Daisy. There are others that I might be forgetting, many that only apply to standing grab (Inkling, link, Ike, etc.), and some that whiff inconsistently, like Ike's dash grab. Dash attacks: DK's dash attack, in its entirety. RIP Jigglypuff's dash attack, as long as it isn't inputted instantly out of a dash at point blank range. Others: Snake's dash attack late hit and up tilt whiff randomly. The slight quivering movement when not fully charged seem to be responsible for that! C. Falcon's entire gentleman combo whiffs consistently. Rapid jab always hits, though. The invulnerability to most of these attacks comes out on FRAME ONE, lasting through the entire charging animation until the frame before the hitbox comes out. NOTE: There is a rare drawback to this property. If you break someone's shield and they land right at the edge, don't begin charging Fsmash too close to their landing spot. You might unexpectedly push them off the edge and completely cancel their shield break stun.
Wow thank you for this explanation, I have broken the shield break stun when charging Yoshi's fsmash many times and never understood why it was happening
4:02 Oh hey, that’s me! Certainly wasn’t expecting to be in this considering I’ve pretty much fully moved on to Joker, but I appreciate you including my clip! 😊
Thanks for making this! Yoshi has been my favorite main in every Smash game (even melee which I played the least). He also my all time favorite character in general.
Same here, even from the pervious Smash games he wasn’t a popular competitive fighter he been my childhood main ever since 64 Yoshi Story and still my math during Ultimate.
Thank you for the great video on Yoshi! As a Yoshi main, I've been waiting for it since I discovered competitive smash on smash 4 ^^'. I've never went serious but nonetheless I always have fun playing with him. Keep up the good work!
How do you learn characters so in depth like this? It's amazing honestly. As a Yoshi main who spends A LOT of time in the lab learning the character, you've covered practically everything that took me months to learn. I'm impressed by how fast you learn these characters and their more hidden moves/combos/setups
This is why I'm loosing to Yoshies I've been underestimating Yoshi's shield pressure and ground game due to the lack of MU experience but now thanks to this I can have a better understanding of what I'm dealing with and how to beat it. Thanks!
As a Yoshi main, I couldn't be more happy with how this Art of came out. Not to mention finding out some new stuff too, like the Egg Roll thing after Egg Lay and Jab1 connecting into Yoshi Bomb. Amazing work, wish I had the money to back you on this one, and the Wario one whenever it comes out
When I started playing ultimate about a year and a half ago and decided that I would main Yoshi, this video made me realize how statisfying to play the green dino can be. Each time I feel that I made a lot of progress on the character, I come back to this guide and realise that there is still a lot I can learn and improve. It really is a great guide that can help players from any level progress, just like it did for me. So thanks a lot Izaw !
I'm so happy you finally made this. I've been a Yoshi main since 64 and it just overall really nice to see that I've actually been applying most of what is in this video. As well as things that I can start trying to apply. Love your videos Izaw. Thank you for the lessons. I hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we enjoy watching them.
Izaw, I've been waiting and hoping for a video like this! As a Yoshi main that's been playing in tournaments since Smash 4 and have been studying up people like Suarez and Raptor and ESAM, it's great so see such professionally edited videos (or more appropriately, ART) on Yoshi combos, matchups, and approaches. I know a good 80%-90% of the tech you demonstrate here, but more obscure things like a 60 degree light egg throw into ledge trump into back air after the egg connects following the trump is such a cool approach to study and lab out. Thank you so much for the video. You ain't no fraud.
@IzawSmash Yoshi's combo games are crazy fast and strong with amazing frame data my favorite move his back air soo powerful in this game, fighting him in the air is a nightmare he can go very deep offstage. As a Yoshi main you did great in this video, Yoshi's KO power potential as improved so well in this game compare to the previous smash bros, like the one on Wii u which lacked some KO power. I Thank Sakurai for changing Yoshi in Ultimate.
I SERIOUSLY LOVE these videos! The way you talk and explain everything is so smooth. I don’t normally play Yoshi but holy moly yoshi looks like the most fun character right now. Keep it up man :D
I'm scared to show this guide to my friend. he is already a good Yoshi main and this is probably gonna help him even more. :P You think its possible to do Lucas next? I've been waiting for your Lucas guide since Smash 4.
ive been a yoshi maining since N64 and he is a perfect lil baby. i switch between the colors as my other options lol for some reason when im red yoshi im more aggressive but nothing beats OG green yoshi and his power. i have clutched so many games with the egg roll its always helped me just the right momentum and distance for jumps.
As a Yoshi main, this video's really handy. I've known some of these combos, like juggling the opponent, etc. but now I realise how useful the neutral air is.
I needed this guide, and you explained it, so spectacularly. When I started playing Yoshi I was so amazed and I couldn't believe why nobody was saying anything about him. I was so lucky to have picked him up so easily. Thank you for your videos!

Wow I actually didn't think you'd make one for Yoshi, at least for quite a while and I was wondering if there was something for Yoshi, and then happened to see this on your channel, what timing Thank you
This is helpful! Thanks! I used Yoshi quite a bit in Smash 4, and he's a lot better in this game, and I have used him since it came out. I'm pretty good with him, but there are a lot of things that I want to learn and practice to get better as him, and this covers that pretty well.
Changes I would do to Yoshi: -Replace Egg Roll as Side Special, since it's rarely useful, for Watermelon's Seed Gun (Yoshi's Island). It should work like Joker's gun, mostly to stop characters when they try to rush towards you. -Increase the distance, damage and knock back of Egg Throw, I would also add the gimmick that if they bounce (either in a wall or the floor/platform), they would increase the knock back. With this, Yoshi would become more of a Sniper and would feel more like in Yoshi's Island.
Great ground speed.. Heavy. Hits hard af. Recover from any where. Very uard to combo . can combo for days. Cant be shield poked . best horizontal air speed in game ....Great nair.. frame 3 jab. And a aimable projectile.. And to top it off lmao..egg toss off stage combos to spike or if dogded is a frame trap for nair
Your vids are always so precise and helpful! Showing the input commands is also a big help. You always make me want to main the character you make a vid about!
Yoshi's down air is better since it bursts well with his air mobility so u would be using it more. Unlike snake's as well, Yoshi's dair could actually combo into other things.
I dont know if this will be a compliment or an insult but this video was really relaxing whith your chill voice and music. It got me kinda sleepy on the middle of the day. Take it however you want lol.
>Has been a Yoshi main for 7-8 years >You make a video covering Yoshi in 20 minutes >1/4 to 1/3 of everything you said was new to me >I’m a terrible Yoshi player
one thing that you could consider is grab releasing, which you can almost always follow up with a jab if they're fast enough they can shield, but you can usually punish them or, if opponent have a quick jab, then you can start conditioning them to immediately jab out of it and punish them for it
Hey, I'm Timmy! Pleasure helping out with these clips, a great video Izaw (and have more ideas to try now) and I look forward to more of your content! :)
I think that the most important basic info is the egg, at first the move looks basically useless, but when you look closely, it’s one of Yoshi’s essential moves
My friends hate it when I use yoshi cause I hit them with so many combos back to back, and if I use yoshi i run after them over and over until they are dead. I've seen yoshi players jump and float around to kill the clock but me I will come after you.
When talking about Yoshi’s throws you should consider the pummel release options, if they don’t shield it’s a free jab if they do shield out of pummel you can call that out and break shield with yoshi bomb.
honestly I don't even play any of these characters you cover but it's still good to know this stuff. it was because of your ike video I learned how to deal with the match up :>
If you catch a grab you can pummel until they mash out into a garunteed 1-2 jab leading into a tech chase. I do this as a mix up and low to mid percents
Little known fact, the egg B- charge is a frame total count prior to toss rather than a dedicated stop on release. Try releasing B and re-pressing on a forward toss, you'll get a bouncing egg as opposed to a full charge's explode on land timing. Also, Bstick eggs are single frame charged eggs, but you can quickly make use of your B button again to push a charge. I'm sad that there's no explanation of the down angles, the most critical being a "no" charge down-in egg. In most cases, it serves as a soft counter mixup that has good combo potential.

Yoshi Creative Destruction, Same! 🤗
Yoshis down air: I'm the best Dair in the game.
Snakes Dair: Am I a JoKe tO yoU
Yoshi's down air is better since it bursts well with his air mobility so u would be using it more. Unlike snake's as well, Yoshi's dair could actually combo into other things.
I’m going to watch this video so many times. I need a pen and paper. Thank you so much.
I dont know if this will be a compliment or an insult but this video was really relaxing whith your chill voice and music. It got me kinda sleepy on the middle of the day. Take it however you want lol.
Yoshi's double jump armor protects him from being stuck in PK fire. Keep tapping jump and you'll escape before Ness has a chance to wind up that bat.
I'm surprised no one commented on how Izaw timing with Yoshi Island... 5:20
Amazing
>Has been a Yoshi main for 7-8 years
>You make a video covering Yoshi in 20 minutes
>1/4 to 1/3 of everything you said was new to me
>I’m a terrible Yoshi player
one thing that you could consider is grab releasing, which you can almost always follow up with a jab
if they're fast enough they can shield, but you can usually punish them
or, if opponent have a quick jab, then you can start conditioning them to immediately jab out of it and punish them for it
I just picked up yoshi just wanting to try new characters and this video has convinced me to keep my laying him for sure
I'm so glad f-tilt has potential now, in sm4sh it was garbage for combos.
YES! Really Fun character, thinking about picking him as a secondary for my ROB
If the art of young link drops I might just die🥺my body waits
That boy easy
Please no 🤮
Hey, I'm Timmy! Pleasure helping out with these clips, a great video Izaw (and have more ideas to try now) and I look forward to more of your content! :)
Damn. Wifi Yoshi was already insufferable. Now he will be unstoppable.
Time to main Yoshi!
I love how anyone gets harassed for playing Yoshi, well done community, you've got one less person playing your game.
I think that the most important basic info is the egg, at first the move looks basically useless, but when you look closely, it’s one of Yoshi’s essential moves
Demonetized because you're promoting a tax evading dinosaur...
Haha funny joke
dead joke
It was clever enough to get 70+ likes.
Noice.
Complain all you want, but his crimes are canon.
This guide is so good. I'm thinking Yoshi might be the same in-game as he will be when the irs finds him
Broke
My friends hate it when I use yoshi cause I hit them with so many combos back to back, and if I use yoshi i run after them over and over until they are dead. I've seen yoshi players jump and float around to kill the clock but me I will come after you.
Got send this by a friend because he knows that i’m very bad at yoshi, thanks for this cool video. helped me a bit x
5:18 THANK YOU IZAW!!
Finally! I’ve been waiting on this since, like, your Art of [character] in Smash 4 series!
Yoshi woah I did not expect this!!! I'll be sure to share this vid!!!!
Thank you sooo much for this video! I love playing Yoshi and will try and train on all these things you mention!

The nostalgic music distracted me, I love it
When talking about Yoshi’s throws you should consider the pummel release options, if they don’t shield it’s a free jab if they do shield out of pummel you can call that out and break shield with yoshi bomb.
Thank you! I can really use this info as I am a Yoshi main myself! And also thanks for an amazing video like always!
I started maining him a week ago, i'm so happy !!!
best tutorial ever made, there are no words to express how good it is
thank you
honestly I don't even play any of these characters you cover but it's still good to know this stuff. it was because of your ike video I learned how to deal with the match up :>
If you catch a grab you can pummel until they mash out into a garunteed 1-2 jab leading into a tech chase. I do this as a mix up and low to mid percents
These are the actual best smash guides. Top players may have the experience but they can’t do the teaching
