the best part of the art series is how theres so much about strategy and not just saying what the moves do. thanks izaw, i have literally no more art request at this point, luigi, bowser, sepheroth, miibrawler, fox, shiek, You've done it all!
It feels so unreal that I've been a Bowser main since Melee first came out, it's been a long road through brawl and smash 4, then finally seeing him viable is so crazy to me in a good way I never thought I'd see the day
I think browser's design is probably the best out of all the heavies as he has what every other heavy weight should have which is the threat of deadly ambiguity when he jumps at you ( he could Fair, Dair, Command grab ETC) which makes him feel like a boss as heavyweights should
I've recently picked Bowser up and I've been waiting for you to drop an "Art Of" for him Thank you so damn much Izaw! I've been following your content since Smash 4 (':
A simple combo that’s really good that works 50% of the time is jab 1 into side b, It only works if jab 1 sends in instead of out but it’s really good if it works and it’s very forgiving because even if you’re slightly off on the timing it will still beat out shields
There’s gonna be a local tournament happening later today. I played Bowser a lot in previous Smashes, but never practiced anything or looked up guides for him because apparently, I could still compete with my siblings who did practice complex stuff. Hopefully this guide gives me an edge
As a Bowser main since Brawl I’ll give some tips not mentioned in the video, Jab 1 to side B is a combo at any percent 50% of the time it only works if jab 1 sends inward instead of outward, Bowser’s ledge trapping is really good, shield halfway between the ledge as roll distance, from this distance up B can cover everything except jump if you move correctly on the ground which he can cover with forward air depending on what you’re predicting the opponent to do Forward tilt angled down is one of the best 2 frame options in the game, Not many characters can hit your shield safely without risk of being hit by up b that kills at about 150% regardless of weight, fall speed will be the thing that determines their survivability but it kills universally from about 170% anywhere on final destination You can use the non flinching part of flame breath to build the percent of an opponent after a shield break to kill them from a shield break at 0% You can get the opponent to shield a down B by using down air a lot until the last stock then bait them into shielding a down b
Hey Izaw, love the content. I'd love to see some brief information in these videos about stage picks and bans for each character if that's something you're able to throw in. ♥
Bro I use the quick short hop side b to close out of distance grab situations and especially whiff punishes. It’s so fast and usually the opponent doesn’t expect it. Love that you put that option in there @izaw. You post such useful videos. Thank you.
This is gonna be so helpful! Bowser is my fav Nintendo character, feels like i can do so much better now i've seen how many options i haven't been using. Thanks man!
For all you new and seasoned Bowser! I'm posting match up guides on every single character and how to beat them with Bowser. Currently I have one on Mario, Steve and DK. This series will feature all 89 characters!
Niceeeeeee I didn't think you would make Ultimate's version of art of Bowser this early since you made one for smash 4 but I'm glad to have been surprised, I've watched smash 4's version a lot so I think it will be the same this time as well, great content as always
Early smash ultimate i found a very fun game to play. Samus allways shot their charge shot to cover both jump and stand, because it didnt combo yet, and i figured out you could time an up smash to destroy it and the amount of times they say I was "gonna get hit" they ran towards me to begin ledgetraping and instead they got weak hot up smashed into back air was far to many
Bro, I've been waiting for this one ever since the Art of Bowser you made for Smash 4 came back. Literally- the smash 4 Arts of Bowser and Ike are what got me into the right mindset to fighting games and improve. Thank you so much you absolute babe.
Notes from a Recovering Bowser Addict: Jab 1 is also great mix on shield between jab 2 timing and side b, especially back of shield for many. Retreating fair using slingshot is also fairly good safe pressure, especially if you can autoslip, or even just go off platform or offstage. Offstage works best if you have a well developed game off ledge as bowser. For at ledge, these options cover so many cases that you can play slow and sturdy from ledge in some MUs, blocking your opponent into limited setups because you can cover most commitments from ledge. In specific MUs like Roy, all the FGC character, little mac, and anyone who needs reactable repositioning to hit ledge it can be incredibly strong. This even applies for characters with good ledge hang punishes, so long as they require reactable setup you can just play around them. Bowser's uniquely gross ledge toolkil -Firebreath(if they commit to anything on the ground near ledge this is FREE) -Side b -The biggest getup attack -Down b regrab mixups -One of fastest ledge drop fast fall double jump empty lands (not quite a NIL but enables similar options) -Autocancel Forward air from ledge (timing is tight but can be consistent) combos -Ledge hop Nair combos from ledge -Drop Up air to close stocks and shark with invincible head (great at calling out some ledge hang punishes) BONUS: You can actually autoslip ledge hop forward air from ledge to cancel the endlag and go back to ledge... Boxx only tho I hope this is helpful for those who are struggling on ledge or with safe pressure!
Spotdashes and and dashdancing can also decrease the effective reachable window on dash in's which is STUPID good. Spotdash is just the lower commitment backdash cancelled into forward dash, extremely good and can set up for surprises across the board from a dash shield to a shortened pivot cancel (which is REALLY nice), a dashwalk -> whatever, a jump in or really just anything you can do out a dash. Spotdashing in place just means that so long as you're outside they're range, they wont be able to tell the difference. It also overlaps with cashback b reverse firebreath briefly which is another incredible zoning tool.
The ledge hop firebreath us literally free on 90% of commitments especially on Kalos where you're safe under plat, it literally just conditions jump which we can usually beat out with fair from ledge or just, roll to get back on, Heck even just neutral getup upsmash. Generally very slept on ledge game
One thing to add is how good forward tilt can be for chasing down a grounded opponent at kill percent. The pivot cancel has great range, and it kills earlier that up tilt and forward air while being slightly faster than down smash
Always baffled me we never had a proper Bowser’s Castle stage anywhere in the actual Smash series. Its such an iconic Mario location to the point that some people call August 4th, or 8-4, Bowser day.
Can you do an Art of Pit video next? He's a character with more depth than one might assume, so breaking him down and showing how he works might help with the learning curve.
love the level of in-depth review over both move and strategies; as a Game and watch player, I'd love to see a video done on him. He's such a weird and quirky character, I'd love to see what you have to say about him. Love these videos, keep it up!
Havent played smash ult since sephy came out but bowser will always be in my heart mans carried me through tourneys, nair-> bair and dash cancel ftilt op............and upb. Hope the smash community is still good
Are you still planning on having an art of for every character?? I imagine there are some characters that would require some insane detail and would take forever to make videos for
Great video, hopefully it helps me beat this big guy. I would love to see an Art of Terry video. I like your How to Terry but I'd love to see you do a deep dive like you do on your Art of series.
Been playing Bowser since ultimate came out and I didnt even think bowser had any combos other than up throw fair at 0% Still, character was great at teaching me patience how to call out opponents on their poor choices so its translated fairly well to a good chunk of other characters Ive tried out
Great video, but I have a small critique for you on script editing: there are a few times when you use the "you" pronoun to refer to hypothetical people (your audience) in different roles of a single interaction, juxtaposed in consecutive sentences. As part of the audience you were referring to by "you", I was briefly disoriented by those times. I think the script of future videos could be improved by a clear separation of how to play *as* Bowser and how to play *against* Bowser, within each section. Here's an example from 14:52: - "Most of the time Bowser will be launching *you* off-stage or upwards, however." (clearly speaking to the audience as if they are playing against Bowser) - "And when *you* do launch them off-stage, *you'll* mostly..." (clearly speaking to the audience as if they are playing as Bowser) It's small, of course, but hopefully the room for improvement is clear. Because some comment readers interpret all constructive criticism as hateful attacks that incite defense, I will repeat that the video was great and my criticism is about a very minor detail that hardly anyone would notice, and it comes from a place of love.
Tough guy should also be based one the move's BASE KNOCKBACK - rather than the actual knockback. This way, all moves he can tank at 0, he can ALWAYS tank. Yes I AM biased, why'd you ask?
