Dolly belting I Ain’t Ashamed was very moving
For sure!
Dolly has collaborated with MANY artists over the years. Several of her Grammy’s have been won through collaborations.
I hear ya Jeff, she has quite the music resume and so many connections I imagine.
This is the first release from a tribute album that is in pre-sale for June. Country artists who were friends, or fan’s of Tom’s, are singing his songs. Tom wrote Southern Accents. That was Tom speaking at the beginning of the video. He was talking about writing this song, which he considered the best song he ever wrote.
Hi Leann, thanks for the insightful comment! Yes I did realize that was his voice at the beginning. What a wonderful gesture form other musicians to pay tribute to him in this manner.
This the title song from his album Southern Accents. Yes, it was a beautiful TP song and an excellent album. It also is a tribute to his mother. He had a rough childhood with an abusive father. His mother was his savior, and he has a couple of songs that reference that part of his life. Off the MOJO album, the song I Forgive It All Is a prime example
Hi Vicki, thanks for providing more context, I appreciate it!
This is part of a tribute album to the late Tom Petty.
Ah ok I see, was not aware of that album until this video.
All of the Southern people from Texas up to the Carolinas have our own Accent. And we are proud of it.
Hey I'm for it!
The album is a tribute album with multiple artists.
Ah ok got it, stay tuned for more Jim!
Beautiful
Thanks for your support!
Tom Petty was rock, not country. He had his own band, and at one time was a member of The Traveling Willburys, with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and a few more I can't think of just now.
I hear ya, it's just to me it sounds a bit like Southern rock with a bit of country in the way the instruments sound and his voice.
@@GeorgeTheCloud Southern rock did have a tinge of country. And some country performers recorded fine versions of Southern rock (Hank Williams, Jr. and Waylon Jennings each cut their own cover of "Can't You See." A great song is a great song and enriches the songwriters with royalties if covered on a hit album.
Back in the day, we were blessed with rock music, country music, country rock music, Southern rock music, folk-rock, folk/country, Southern California country/folk/rock (the Byrds, the Eagles, the Flying Buritto Brothers and others), while country music had many sub-genres (Cajun, Western Swing, Cowboy songs, the Nashville Sound, Honky-Tonk, Rockabilly (Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Buddy Holly, etc), Outlaw country and on and on.
Having so many flavors of music to choose from was taken for granted by us, the Baby Boom generation.
TP loved all types of music. He covered country, R&B, blues, etc. In many of his live shows. I heard him cover everything from Hank Williams to Bill Withers. He didn't lock into specific genres. If he liked it, he listened to it. And he would cover it at his concerts
Jeff Lynn from ELO,and, also Jim Keltner ( Buster Sidebury ) on drums.
Tom's original band,Mudcrutch,that he revived in 2008 qnd 2016,was a country band.
