    Sorry if this has been mention already. Mr. Knopfler is left-handed. His dominant hand does the fret work and his other hand does the picking work. Just amazing.

    Love Mark, he just plays so tastefully... no extra notes, no playing fast just for the sake of it just pure expression and emotion through the guitar... definitely one of the top 10 guitarists of all time...

    Dire straits always reminds me of a Turkish Gullet creaky wooden ship trip i went on around Malta isles for the day .They played Dire Straits music all the time .I love "Money for Nothin and your chicks for free ".

    Playing this 1980 ..... driving down the Arnhem Hwy to Kakadu Nat Park with my best mate - cassette player going! We were the Sultan's of Swing! ❤❤❤ A few years later & I saw them in Adelaide. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

    Using the thumb to plub a string chsnges the attack. The sound asserts itself.

    What an awesome analysis of the wonderful and unique finger picking style of Mr. Knopfler. Amazing how much of his style you managed to pack into a 30 minute segment! Nice job!
    Love his picking on "In The Gallery". One of my favorites!

    Here's an amusement that Rick Beato gave us recently. This song refers to "Guitar George" (he knows all the chords). Well... George was (is??) a real person, and he has two very famous younger brothers. Angus and Malcolm Young, from AC/DC!!!

      He is widely recognized as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. If anything is underrated it might be his songwriting, but on the whole he does not lack recognition.

I listen to Dire Straits for hours and anything with Mark he seeps into my soul, his guitar sings from his soul to his fingers to the guitar. I always know when that man is playing.     My nephew had a guitar magazine with their "Top 100 guitar solos". Well my top picks were Clapton "Crossroads" and Knopfler, "Sultans". Theirs were No.2, and No.4 or 5, so for somebody who doesn't know squat, I think I did pretty well.

    When you realize he never plays anything exactly the same , his guitar work becomes even more amazing and he has been playing this since the late 70's , nearly 50 years .

    We mustn't forget Mr Knopfler wrote the words, music, arranged it, sang it and played his guitar only as he can play it.
    The mans a GENIUS, more than talented, I think he's now retired at the young age of 72, 3 years younger than me.

    LOVE finding gems like this one, I've not seen before. No one can give a guitar vibrato like Mark Knopfler. And yes- he makes his guitar sing, but also talk, and dance, and just come alive. Watching him in his younger years, playing with Chet Atkins, is just mesmerizing.

    Mark Knopfler' has written some amazing songs . Tunnel of love and Brothers in Arms , which is so moving i can't play it without feeling emotion .

    After 60 years of playing, I've become a fan of 'fill notes' and not necessarily the lead stuff. I learned that playing so much country music. Mark's technique of answering his vocals is unmatched,,he doesn't follow any rules playing minor or flat 7's in his answering isn't played by no one else. Definitely his OWN style and I don't think anything else would've made him the player he is today..He's one of my favorites. He's not a 'Scale' player.

      I love Mark's playing as much as anyone but if you listen to JJ Cale you'll see where Mark got much of his sound from :)

      @@mikedr1549 Totally agree. I'm a huge fan of Mark, but the truth is the truth. He took from JJ Cale not only the guitar sound but the way of singing, the voice, the tone... And as I said, I'm the biggest fan of Mark and Dire Straits. But you cant deny that when you listen to JJ Cale. It's obvious.

      @@okee9 yeah, when people make associations like this it isn't necessarily a representation of reality, it's just what someone thinks to themselves. You could just as easily say it's like BB King with the silence filled in. Bluesy rock is bluesy rock

    WINGS, I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG IN '79 AS IT STARTED MAKING IT'S ROUNDS AS I WAS IN COLLEGE AND PLAYING IN A "JOHNNY WINTER/CLAPTON/ZZ TOP" 3-PIECE INFLUENCED TYPE OF BAND....WE WORKED ON IT FOR A WHILE THEN GRADUATED AND THAT WAS THAT! EVERYONE WAS PLAYING IT IN THE BARS LATER AS WAS *WARREN HAYNES* IN A BAND CALLED RICOCHET BEFORE *DAVID ALLEN COE* ON TOUR WALKED INTO A LOCAL BAR AS HE PLAYED IT AND THEN IT WAS HISTORY! WARREN JOINED COE AND THEN THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, GOV'T MULE, ....ETCCCCCCC... EVERYTIME I HEAR THE SONG IT REMINDS ME OF THOSE DAYS NOW! LOL!     When I first heard this song on my little transistor radio while hitchhiking Ireland in Co. Cork, I stood with my friend and our mouths dropped agape and we looked at each other and smiled in amazement at the music. Ty Fil!

    Where I live we have the lyrics of Tunnel of Love etched into the paving stones on the sea front . Been a fan of MKs since the late 70s. This clip is from one night in London . A fabulous set.

    mark knopfler's style and technique are so distinctive and unique on the guitar it truly makes mark knopfler the real "SULTAN of swing"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
