Steven King's book is presented as a series of novellas that is the whole story. There's a lot more in the story, and it's very readable. The movie is a good adaptation of the story, as well as being a masterpiece in and of itself.
The books give you a lot more backstory on the inmates' crimes, and you definitely feel a bit less empathy for them. That was left out of the movie on purpose.
The reason it came out in novellas is that a reporter said that modern writers couldn't write with a deadline. Stephen King took the bet and released a novella every month until the book was done. So not bad for a book written on a bet.
@mickluchsinger486 I listened to an interview of Steven King, and he said he wrote it that way as an homage to a style of writing used back in the 1930s. No mention of a "bet."
@Sessis Although the story started out as a series of novellas, it was released in book form. Or at least a small series of books, which is how I read them.I'm glad that you're considering getting it.
This movie hits hard no matter how many times I've seen it. The casting for this is absolutely fantastic and it's such a shame that Michael Clarke Duncan didn't get an Oscar for this. His portrayal of John Coffey is perfection and he put so much emotion into this. I'm also really glad you went into this movie without knowing about the supernatural element to it because it really adds a unique twist. Oh, and I'm glad you were so repulsed by Percy and him not wetting the sponge for Del because that is one of the most horrific movie scenes I can remember.
I can imagine it hits hard when very time, I’ll probably cry even more the second time I watch it because some of the shock factory will be gone. The whole cast did a fantastic job. The person playing John definitely deserves an Oscar. Omg that scene with Dels execution is one of the most shocking things I’ve ever seen. Thank you for sharing your experiences d thoughts
When John healed Melinda, she mentioned "they found each other in the dark." Even though, or maybe because, he was scared of the dark, he willingly went there to heal.
While best known for writing horror, Stephen King is prolific in many genres (including supernatural, fantasy, crime, etc.). A lot of his stories are very character driven, tend to include those who are personifications or agents of evil, good, chaos, and order, centred around the interactions and events that occur when normal people come into contact with or are influenced by those agents.
I didn’t know that thank you, that’s interesting to lead. My mom and dad read many Stephen King books but I haven’t read any myself yet. Do you know of any movies based on his books that aren’t super scary? I’ve been recommended Stand by Me and shawk redemption so far. For the scary movies based on his books I’ve seen The Shinning and IT
@@Sessis Gerald's Game. Delores Clairborne. Two SK novels about the strength of women. Not supernatural horror. The horror of ordinary human existence.
For a relative newcomer to movie reactions, you did a wonderful job with a very sensitive, emotional movie. You seem to be very "cine-literate" and able to read the signs the director, screenwriters, and actors insert along the course of the movie. Remember at the start of the film, Paul said John is an "imbecile." Well, what do you think now? Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the really kind comment. I don’t think I ever had an impression of John being an “imbecile” he seemed able to read body language of others well and he follows conversation without issues. That he speaks slowly or doesn’t speak so much over all is probably because he’s so highly empathetic that he picks up on everyone’s emotions around him. That is very overwhelming and probably take up a lot of his mind’s processing power. He appeared to not have had any or much education which probably wasn’t his fault given his circumstances. He could potentially be an autistic coded character. Thank you for the encouragement. Means a lot to hear!

@@Sessis A must-reaction! Hopefully on the channel when it strikes you, reactions to Shawshank Redemption, as well as Dances, Braveheart, Gladiator, The Dark Knight sequel to Batman Begins, Tombstone, Lord of the Rings trilogy...
What a way to start watching mature movies for the channel. I’ve only seen this movie a couple of times but I consistently catch myself thinking about it. Why not, it’s pretty layered from the character dynamics (relationships between the guards and the prisoners), symbolism (the mouse being a big one), and the hauntingly beautiful cinematography of the executions themselves. You can really tell this movie is based off a book from an experienced writer.
I’m very happy with my pick of my first non animated movie to react too. I was intimidated by how long it was but thought I’d I can edit this one then I can probably edit most other movies too. They did a great job with the casting and the sets, really well made movie! What symbolism does the mouse stand for?
@@SessisI too have wondered about the possible symbolism of the mouse. However, I think that rather than symbolizing something, the mouse’s purpose is to bring out the different characters’ personalities and what’s in their hearts.
The mouse doesn't mean anything specific, I think, other than illustrating the hearts of other characters. Of course he's eventually a parallel to Paul, but only in one sense. Paul is also arguably paralleled to Longinus, the Roman soldier who pierced Christ's side with a lance, and was healed by his blood, but suffered a painful mauling every night, healed, and was doomed to immortality and this happening over and over.
I like the way the film humanizes the prisoners. The book kind of makes you feel less for them because it explains what they did to be sent to death. Especially Del.
Yes in the movies we dont know what they do, except John and Billy because the Warden said why was he there, so we cant judge the, we assume that they at least kill somebody because they are death man walking
I think the book did a better job of humanizing them. For example, you first learn of Del's crimes and are quite repulsed by him......but as the book goes on, you begin to care about him, to realize he has a very good heart and that his crime was mostly out of fear, that he was truly repentant. I knew he went to his death with a clean heart.
@msdarby515 He raped a girl like Billy did. How is that out of fear? He then tried to burn the body, maybe out of fear of getting caught? Paul did say it was probably the only crime he had in him, but it's very hard to forgive that kind of thing. I was better off not knowing
If you think about it carefully, you'll note a certain poetic symmetry to the way each person in the story dies, a kind of 'justice ex machina' (well, except maybe for Paul's wife).
The story was published in 6 parts released monthly. I was working retail at the time so I was able to grab the next installment as soon as they arrived for sale. We had to wait 6 mo. for the conclusion. Frank Darabont did a wonderful job adapting it for the big screen as well as Shawshank Redemption and The Mist.
Some thoughts: Observers for an execution are an old thing in America. It largely stems from a distrust of government. If the government is going to kill someone in the name of justice, the citizens have a right to observe this. This allows people to see for themselves that justice was done, that is was done correctly (not a cruel or unusual punishment), and provide a bit of closure for the victims. No secret executions allowed. When John breathes out the flies, he is taking the darkness from someone or something, and releasing it. Stephen King uses this darkness and light repeatedly throughout his works, with significant characters able to manipulate the light or the darkness to some degree. Also, fine job with the editing. Lots of folks do this movie poorly. This is a heavy movie, but a fantastic one. I'm confident if will be a classic long after I'm gone. Nicely done.
Thank you for taking the time to respond about the executions. Aaa okay that’s what the flies represent. I really appreciate the compliment on the edit, that means so much to hear.
@@Sessis The actor who played Percy is a creep in real life as well if you didn't know. He got involved with and married a 16 year old girl when he was 50 and might have even had something going on with his mother-in-law at one point. Look up "Doug Hutchison/Courtney Stodden" and you'll see some things.
It was such a great but shocking movies. Can totally see the interest in watching people reactions too it. Watched a few reactions now too and I cried again
I really enjoyed your commentary and analysis, and your English is excellent. Yes, Percy gets off on the pain of others, whether it's physical, mental, or emotional. He is the textbook example of a sadist.
The movie stay's very true the the book. The main thing left out is before each execution they would get their last rites from a priest, when it was John's turn he asked Paul to do it, That part broke me, I cried for a good 10 minutes (I also had a cold so my emotions were all over the place) I still cry every time I watch it. Such a great book and movie.
That’s nice to hear that it stays true to the book. It’s such a sad movie, I’m probably gonna cry even more when I rewatch it now that the shock won’t be as bad
Virtual hugs Sess! 🤗 This is definitely a very heavy movie to watch. I've seen this I don't know how many times. And it still makes me cry, especially when John starts whispering "heaven.. I'm in heaven" breaks me every time. 😭 If you'd like to see Tom Hanks in one of his earlier more comedic roles I recommend the movie Big. I think you'd really enjoy it. But great reaction and looking forward to which ever movie you bring us next!
Thank you so much for the hug. It was a very emotional rough movie to watch but glad to have seen it. Ive not heard of the movie Big thanks for the recommendation
I forgot to mention.. Stand By Me, and The Shashank Redemption are two other movies based on non-horror stories by Stephen King. Both also well worth watching!
"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long." Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured. Jock Strap Incident Fact: Michael Clarke Duncan was uncomfortable with having to grab Tom Hanks' crotch for the scene where John cures Paul's urinary infection. Hanks left the set and came back to do the scene; Duncan grabbed Hanks' crotch and was shocked to discover that he had put an empty water bottle in his trousers. After that, Duncan felt more comfortable with the scene. Measuring Up Fact: In reality, Michael Clarke Duncan was of a similar height to his co-star David Morse, and was a couple of inches shorter than James Cromwell. Amongst other things, creative camera angles were used to create the illusion that Duncan, as John Coffey, towered over the prison staff, even "Brutal" Howell and Warden Moores. For one scene where Paul, Coffey and Brutal were in the same shot, Michael Clark Duncan was standing on a plank, David Morse stood on the ground, and Tom Hanks was standing in a trench dug into the ground just for that purpose.
The movie is very true to the book. Stephen King is often called a 'horror' author, but he has a lot more to offer in his story telling - it is complex, and he is masterful at creating a world that just seems believable and real. This story was originally published in an experimental way. In I believe 6 short stories, as a tribute to the way stories were once printed in newspapers or monthly magazines a chapter at a time over a long period of time. I actually read the first one when it was released and remember waiting a month for the next book to be printed until I had finally read the entire thing. Stephen King is amazing. The cast of this movie - also amazing. Tom Hanks passed on the lead in Shawshank Redemption to film this movie.
That’s so interesting to hear about thank you for taking the time to tell me. I might see about getting the books and read it. I didn’t know Tom Hanks has been offered a role in the other movies too, he did an excellent job in this role. Good pick of him.
My understanding..... Tom Hanks passed on "Shawshank Redemption" (1994) is cause he was committed to Filming "Forest Gump" (1994)..... Green Mile was made by same Director/Crew that filmed Shawshank, and this was filmed 5 years later......
What I found hard, just how long had John Coffey been suffering from the affliction of his gift, I do think that John Coffey was gifted at a young age which would account for his basic spelling and broken English, For all we know John Coffey could have been roaming America for a hundred years plus just helping and healing where he can, Of all the movies I have watched in my lifetime this is still the one that haunts me the most, they really can't get much better than this.
As horrific as Del's death was, it was similar to what he subjected his victims to. In the book, it's explained that he sexually assaulted, and then killed a little girl. And to hide the crime, he set a fire that ended up killing six more people, including a child. His line to the guards broke my heart. He said, "I sure wish I could've met you guys somewhere else". If he had friends like these men, his life would definitely have taken a different path. Thank you for reacting to such a great film. I've subscribed and look forward to more great ones. 🙂
I was suspecting he must have done something really horrible to have ended up there. He does seem like he at least was honestly remorseful, not that it fixes or undo what he did. Wonder what he went through himself to be capable of doing what he did, maybe yeah having friends that cared would have stopped him doing what he did or other kinds of interventions. Thank you for subscribing. Just heads up my next reactions will most like be animated movies again because this one was so heavy but I’ll do more mature movies too.
I watched your Mummy reaction and loved your accent, but I couldn't place it. In this reaction you said "... here in Sweden". Känns lite fånigt att jag inte kunde placera brytningen. Keep up the great reactions.
Yeah sadly sometimes that’s not safe to do though when you can’t see on some what they are capable of doing. But out of a perspective of being romantically interested in someone judging people on superficial things that would fit this saying in my book
The book came out as a serial. One part a month for six months. He got that idea from Charles Dickens, who did something similar in the 19th century in Great Britain. Oliver Twist may have been one. Can't remember, it's been a minute.
Oh cool I didn’t know that. Interesting to hear about, I know of Dickens but I don’t think I ever read any of his books 🤔 or maybe we did in school. I can’t remember.
Annoying how that dust seems to be getting in everyone’s eyes when watching this 😢 thank you for the nice comment and for letting me know you like this reaction too!
The other Stephen King adaptation that is a MUST see is "The Shawshank Redemption"... also. not a scary film... and it's even more emotional than "The Green Mile" 🏆 ❤ 🎥
The book was actually a serial that was 6 short novelettes. I waited until all 6 were published before buying them. Excellent story. This and The Shawshank Redemption are the best adaptations of stories written by Stephen King.
@@Sessis Shawshank Redemption is one of those movies that even if I see it on and over half the movie has already played, I will still stop and watch it. I cried a lot after the movie ended, I found some of the scenes pretty graphical and felt quite shocked by how much sadness and heavy scenes the movie has. Glad that I watched it though, really well made movie and the actors did such a good job. I have a feeling I’ll cry even harder when rewatching the movie because then I won’t be as shocked

Hi Sessis. So glad you watched this movie. The Green Mile is one of my all time favorite movies. I know it's sad, but it's so damn good. I look forward to your next movie reaction. You are so adorable. Take care
It’s a wonderful made movie, super sad but I’m very glad I watched it. Thank you for your support. Hope you’ll like my next reaction too. You take care as well!
The Green Mile never fails to make anybody shed tears unless they are completely hollow inside. Movies like The Green Mile shed light on things we might otherwise not want to see. Only when you see something can you fix something. At any rate good reaction I think I'll go ahead and give you a follow.
Your reaction was exactly the same as mine. I still get misty eye'd watching others react to this movie. Yes it is close enough to the book (books as they originally came out as 6 mini books). You learn more about the crimes of the inmates. I am enjoying watching you react to movies. I subscribed. Keep them coming please.
I would cry watching others react to this movie too, completely get you. I might have to look into getting the books and reading them. Really enjoyed the movie even though it was so heavy. Thank you so much for subscribing. I’ve stared editing my next reaction so hopefully there will be more next week
24:53. I heard a story that Doug Hutchison's (Percy) own mother applauded when he was punched the first time she saw the film. That's awesome if that's really the case.
I haven’t heard about that, think most people can separate the actor from the role like she did in that case. But I’ve definitely heard of some people who strangely can’t
@@SessisI just think it's funny that the guy's own mother would, that shows what a jerk he was. He actually received threats after playing this character, some people hated Percy that much. I despise Percy myself but you have to separate fiction from reality. It's still just a movie.
Sessis is so sweet and adorable for this world 🤗 she’s also very very strong because when I watch this movie I cried like a baby and I was 17 years old 😂

@@Sessis Thanks.I often do a little list for new movie reaction channels. I often feel like one of the daunting aspects of doing movie reactions, would be trying to decide which unseen ones to react to without doing too much research, and spoiling any surprises. So most of these are unusual or groundbreaking in some way, and highly rated, highly acclaimed. So they should get rec'd by the YT algorithm.
Lovely reaction, Sessis. No one likes that "little dude". Percy has to be one of the, if not the most hated character on film. The director of this film has done another Stephen King adaptation also set in a prison, "The Shawshank Redemption", also a great film, and thankfully not as sad as this one. Although, you mat want to a while. Watching the two back to back would be a tough time. Hugs.
Thank you so much for the compliment on the reaction. That means a lot to hear! ☺️ Oh boy that Percy really turned out to be a bad person. Thank you for the recommendation, after having watch this I’m definitely intrigued to check out more of Stephen Kings movies that aren’t scary
One of the most hated, I would agree. As for most hated, there was a character in the Harry Potter series, of whom even our friend Stephen King said, was perhaps the top evil character in modern literature. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so I won't say who it is. I'd love to see Sessis watch the Potter movies, assuming she hasn't seen them yet.
@@Sessis Yes - 'The Shawshank Redemption' is often talked about and recommended along side 'The Green Mile' for many reasons. Both are absolute masterpieces of cinema. Both source stories were non-horror prison dramas by Stephan King. Both movies were screenwritten / directed by Frank Darabont. Strange fact. When the ancients originally studied breast cancer they noted the blood supply to the tumor under the skin resembled a crab. The disease was named after the astrological sign.
Great reaction! Welcome to the genius writer that is Stephen King. We all wish we could give you a hug, sorry to see you upset but it is so refreshing to see some genuine emotion from streamers. Please watch ' The Shawshank Redemption' when you get the chance.
It hit me hard after the movie ended, it’s like my mind was so shocked before so I just broke down afterwards. Thank you. I’m definitely watching that movie in the future. I’m gonna watch some animated movies now because I need the comfort after this one
I had to look up what Napoleon Complex was that might very well be something that makes Percy insecure indeed. He still seems to be spoon feed everything as an adult too

I have not read any of Stephen King’s books but I have seen this movie and the Shawshank Redemption several times, including the behind-the-scenes making of the movies. In both cases, Stephen King said that Frank Darabont, the screen writer and Director of both movies, made the stories better than what King could have done himself and that he would happily handover any of his stories to Frank. I thought that was a massive compliment. Great reaction! 💙💙💙

One difference between the book and the movie, is that while in the movie John says that Del is lucky because he can't feel no pain, in the book paul says that after getting John coffey's "gift" everytime he was around the electric chair he could feel Del and everyone who died there screaming and burning for their sins. Also there some poetic justice at the end, when Paul says that the mental hospital where Percy was put into burned down, so he just sood there, unable to move while the flames slowly killed him just like Del
Aaaargh! 😫 You spoke over the part where John says to the fellas as they're leading him to the chair, "There's lots of folks here who hate me." and Brutal says, "Feel how we feel then. We don't hate you." 😢 Never fails to break me up. 😂🤷♂️ Nice, smart, genuine reaction.
Yeah I tend to talk a lot when watching movies so it will inevitably happen that I speak over some parts. It’s why I don’t watch movies anymore with others in person, it can be annoying for them. I’m a little self conscious about it but was hoping that my natural talking tendency might make me naturally good at movie reaction videos though. I love reading Stephen King novels. Some of my favorite movies are adaptations of his books. Some of my favorites being this one, Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, Christine, Carrie (old version), IT (old version), Misery and Needful Things. The original IT was actually a two-part made for TV movie.
First time watching. Very impressed. I've seen over a dozen YT Green Mile reactors and you have about the best editing skills I've seen. This attribute along with great interactive reactions, bodes well to a good future. Well done.

Thank you that’s very nice of you. For the moment I’m going if my list of movies I’ve been wanting to watch. Suggestions are welcomed though for when I’m finished with my list 😃
While quite a few of Stepen King's scarier works have been adapted for film, he has also had success with some of his other works. A couple of his novellas from his book Different Seasons come to mind. The Shawshank Redemption is one, based on a short story titled Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. Also, there was Stand By Me, from the same book, based on a novella titled The Body.
Thank you I’m definitely watching those other non scary movies based on this book. Just gotta watch some cute movies first to recover from the shock of this movie. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
I really enjoyed your reaction! Most people miss so much. But you did not. I could tell from your accent that English isn't your primary language; and yet you still picked up on things that many people whose primary language is English often miss.
That’s nothing to be ashamed off! Crying is perfectly normal and natural response to seeing things like this movie. From how I understand it parts of our brains don’t fully understand that it’s made up so partly we process the movie as it’s actually something we are experiencing
Thank you for telling me. It’s such a sad movie. I’m gonna watch some reactions of other TH-camrs now that I’ve seen the movie and I’m gonna cry so much more now that the shock of the scene won’t be as severe
I am pretty sure someone has the same emotions by watching this movie. And by seeing this reaction video, I am sure someone wishes to be there with her and hug her, as she's crying a lot for the movie, and especially for John. So am I! I have seen this video (and some reaction videos about Cast Away), I thought so: I would like to be with her and hug her strong! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
You commented about all the seats for observers in front of the electric chair. It’s because the public must be allowed to scrutinize actions of the state, no matter how grim.
Hmm okay so a way for the citizens to have an insight if things are done properly. I guess that is a good thing even though I still would never go myself
I cry every time I watch this movie, RIP Michael Clark Duncan Director Frank Darabont also collaborated with Stephen King on what is called one of the best movies of all time,The Shawshank Redemption, a must watch
Why does somebody always start cutting onions while I'm watching this movie? I'm not crying, you are! 😮 Seriously, I cry like a big ol' baby EVERY time I watch it. 😢
i think you understood the film very well for being the first time and you understood many things immediately. again great editing and a nice plot summary. keep it up. p.s The Green Mile, Misery, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, IT, Doctor Sleep, Carrie, 1408, Pet Sematary and much more. he gave us many films thanks to his novels. Thanks Stephen. We can only say this
The scary part at the end when he says “the parts that keeps me awake is…If he (God) can make a mouse live so long, how much longer do I have” as a mouse’s lifespan is not long to begin with
The movie is one of the best adaptations of a book I've read. King's books don't often translate well to a movie script, with the biggest challenge conveying the inner thoughts/turmoil of the characters. Frank Darabont, however, has a gift when it comes to that process, even adhering to the dialog from the book. In a few places he's managed to convey that character's inner emotion to the audience.
@@Sessis Frank Darabont also wrote the screenplays and directed Shawshank Redemption and The Mist.....both are adaptations of Stephen King short stories......both definitely should be on your watchlist if you haven't already seen them. He also was a writer for the USA TV show The Walking Dead. The Mist is the very first Stephen King story I ever read. It blew my mind and made me a fan for life. You should check out the movie. Darabont follows the written story to a T, only changing the ending......and Stephen King loved Darabont's ending better. LOL In 2008, "The Shawshank Redemption" was named the best movie in the Internet Movie Database's Top 250 cinema-favorites list. It has since overtaken "The Godfather" and "Citizen Kane," which are both still in second place. British movie goers voted it one of the 500 best movies of all time. It's absolutely a movie you need to react to! 🥰
Good job on the reaction. One that you might like that is much less emotional is "The Princess Bride" it's lots of fun. Another Tom Hanks flick that gets no play is "Joe and the Volcano" lots of goofy fun. Thanks for sharing
Stephen King is an amazing writer and he's not only writing horror. Stand By Me (1986) is another movie based on his non-horror story (The Body) and Shawshank Redemption is another non-horror story/movie of his. I whole heartily recommend them.
This movie happened in 1935, and the last electric chair execution in the US was in 2002. And yes, people went to watch the executions, most of the people watching were the victims or family of the victims.
This is a good movie but it’s also the kind of movie you can only see one time. Much like Terms of Endearment with Jack Nicholson and AI with the kid actor Hailey Joel Osment and Jude Law. This films are also great movies but can only be seen once because the themes are so emotional and well depressing.. also great review and one of the few that caught when John Coffee said he tried to take it back when he was found with the little girls.👍
I think I’ll revisit this movie in the future. I’m sure there lots of details I missed that I would maybe see watching it a second time. You’re right though it’s a very heavy movie
Awesome reaction, thank you and I'm saaaacribing. I hope you do more movie reactions because you're clearly great at it... Tons of great comedies, dramas, rom coms, sci fi and action movies out there!!!
Thank you so much! I’m gonna continue doing more movies, I need something comforting after this heavy movie so my next ones will be animated movies gain but I plan to do more mature movies too
Many people have been mentioning that movie. I’m definitely watching it in the future. Thank you for recommending it too And yes definitely the director did a great job and the people making the sets, just overall great movie.
The book is my favorite King novel. It was originally published in 6 small parts about 80 or so pages each month for 6 months and it was actually a wonderful way to read it with titles like The Two Dead Girls or The Mouse on the Mile etc. and the film is actually a perfect recreation of the novel. I saw the film in the theater with my Mom already knowing the story and still wept like blazes.
That’s so cool, thanks for telling me. I’m thinking I’ll pick up the book and read it now that I’ve seen the movie. Many people have said it’s a good adaptation
I remember when this book came out it was released in six parts, they released one novella a month for six months. It was HELL I say... I would get my copy as soon as I could and then read it in one night. And then it was back to waiting another month Damn you Stephen King! It got to the point I was bribing the girl at the customer service desk at my local Albertsons to get my copy 4 days early. But IMHO this is one of King's best especially now that you get all six parts in one book... LOL
The reasoning for not stopping the execution of Del was the amount of trauma he had already endured and to have had it stopped before dead would have been more painful
Did this movie also make you sob or cry?
This one makes you cry but in a bettersweet way, I love it ❤️
Ofcourse crying Sess 😪 Percy is my number one hate person! Great reaction 😊
If this movie doesn't make you cry, you're not human.
I think with how intense and traumatic the movie is some people might shut down emotionally to protect themselves and there for not cry.
You're not human if you don't cry. You saying this movie is "not scary, but upsetting" is the best way to describe it.
Steven King's book is presented as a series of novellas that is the whole story. There's a lot more in the story, and it's very readable. The movie is a good adaptation of the story, as well as being a masterpiece in and of itself.
Thank you for letting me know about the book. I’m considering getting it
The books give you a lot more backstory on the inmates' crimes, and you definitely feel a bit less empathy for them.
I would say Duncan deserved the Oscar more than Tom Hanks! Cause He won it for this movie.
When John healed Melinda, she mentioned "they found each other in the dark." Even though, or maybe because, he was scared of the dark, he willingly went there to heal.
Oh I didn’t catch or think about that. Thank you so much for pointing that out!
For the scary movies based on his books I’ve seen The Shinning and IT
@@Sessis Stand By Me, another S K, but not scary. Coming of age masterpiece
@@Sessisight not be your type of movie, I don't know, but The Running Man is also based off a Stephen King novel, and that is a scifi action movie.
Shawshank Redemption is also a Stephen King novel/movie that is a great 🍿🎥

18:45 that might be the most genuine first reaction I've ever seen. What a beautiful but sad movie
Thank you
There are so Many reactions to Green Mile. And Most people react Like, Most Girls cried a lot more wegen del or coffey get executed.
@@Sessis Try Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, and Forrest Gump. All masterpieces!
@@Sessis Just going by the screenwriter's having two characters say John is an "imbecile."
@@Sessis Imbeciles. -Those whose development is higher than that of an idiot, but whose intelligence does not exceed that of a normal child of about seven years. "Moron" and "Idiot" also have their levels. They are psychology terms that took on a different usage over the years.
Well done editing, too!
The actor who had acted as the Native American prisoner, was Mr Grahm Green; he was the Shaman in DANCES WITH WOLVES: AND the Native Police Officer, in the film called, L
I didn’t know that, don’t think I’ve seen any of those movies. But Dances with the wolves is one of my dads favorite movies I think 🤔
@@JeffC26131pretty much, if you treat animals well there's at least some good in you.
Okay yeah I read a comment who said some of the things Del had done, I kinda assumed it would be something bad considering he was there.
Wow you actually read it when it was brand new, that’s so cool!
Some thoughts:
Observers for an execution are an old thing in America.
I love it when you refer to Percy as little dude. It's so perfect for him. 😁
Haha 😆
@@Sessis The actor who played Percy is a creep in real life as well if you didn't know. He got involved with and married a 16 year old girl when he was 50 and might have even had something going on with his mother-in-law at one point. Look up "Doug Hutchison/Courtney Stodden" and you'll see some things.
I need to watch this reaction every time a channel features it. So worth crying the tears again and again.
Thank you for the super kind comment! He definitely seems to be that very bad kind of sadist indeed
Oh cool I didn’t know he had made more things that isn’t horror! Thanks that’s really good to know
"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long."
Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured.
Thank you so much for sharing all this information about the movie that was really interesting to read!

36:15 Thank you for including my favourite line in the film. 😭Such a powerful film and a wonderfully sweet reaction. 👏
Thank you. It definitely such a great movie, filmed so beautifully
I cried like a baby even after watching it over again!
@@CoastalNomad Ahhhhh, I must have confused those two.
@@datguy892 It happens......
What I found hard, just how long had John Coffey been suffering from the affliction of his gift, I do think that John Coffey was gifted at a young age which would account for his basic spelling and broken English, For all we know John Coffey could have been roaming America for a hundred years plus just helping and healing where he can,
Of all the movies I have watched in my lifetime this is still the one that haunts me the most, they really can't get much better than this.

The book came out as a serial. One part a month for six months. He got that idea from Charles Dickens, who did something similar in the 19th century in Great Britain. Oliver Twist may have been one. Can't remember, it's been a minute.

To answer your question about executions being made open to people watching, yes they were even dating back to public hanging.
Hugs.

One of the most hated, I would agree. As for most hated, there was a character in the Harry Potter series, of whom even our friend Stephen King said, was perhaps the top evil character in modern literature. 😢 Never fails to break me up.
😂🤷♂️
Nice, smart, genuine reaction.
My mom is the same but she even sometimes does it at the cinema 😅 thank you for the compliment on the reaction. I very much appreciate that
ooh Sessis!
Another great reaction down but just promise me 2 things.
that no matter what. you will never lose who you are but also
your innocent soul!
Thank you, hopefully I’ll never lose myself. I’m not that innocent though 😈😂
@@Sessis still an innocent person despite what you been through.
You deserve all the love and happiness in the world ❤️
It’s okay a lot of people think have an impression of me being innocent 😇 think it has something to do with my appearance and my candidness perhaps. Which can be fun when they eventually realize I’ve lived a pretty adventurous life
25:00 😆 love that line
I plan on living to 120.....so if my mind dont go...i will know how it feels to lose all
120 that’s a very specific number
Next you should watch the movie The Last Samurai (2003) with a lot of tissues.
Thank you for the recommendation. I’ve not heard of that movie
@@Sessis Its worth time.
@@GreenArrowHunter totally, a little unnacurate but great acting and touching moments
What actors are in it? I got so many movies to watch that I’ve never heard off 😅
@@Sessis Tom Cruise is the lead of the movie.
John Coffey AKA Michael Clarke Duncan rest in peace you're still missed every time we meet John Coffey and say goodbye in this movie.
Saw this back in the day when it was in Theaters. Went with a Group of Friends, Girl Friends. And when we came out of the Theater we were All Sobbing 😢! Of course us Guys were like, I'm not Crying, your crying!
Two other Stephen King "non-scary" movies to watch are "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Misery"
Thank you, I haven’t hear about Misery yet I’ll keep that in mind for the future
This is my all-time favorite movie - still breaks me every time I watch it.
Such a powerful story about humanity, and the human condition.
I’ll definitely cry lots next time I watch it too. Such a well made movie!
John Coffee was also in the movie Talladega night the ballad of Ricky bobby
I didn’t know that, never seen him in any other movies myself
First time watching. Very impressed. I've seen over a dozen YT Green Mile reactors and you have about the best editing skills I've seen. This attribute along with great interactive reactions, bodes well to a good future.
Well done.
Hey wow thank you for the super nice comment! Really appreciate it
@Sessis you're most welcome. I've been living on YT for the last 4 years. My only source of TV entertainment per-say. Majority of my viewing is watching youtubers reactions to movies and TV series. I have a lot of suggestions of what movies / TV shows to react to that usually get a lot of views if you're interested? Let me know.
Thank you that’s very nice of you. For the moment I’m going if my list of movies I’ve been wanting to watch. Suggestions are welcomed though for when I’m finished with my list 😃
@@Sessis Roger that. Cheers.
I cried more watching you watch this than I did just watching it myself. Big hugs, loved the video, cheers!
Thank you so much!
17:27 Wild Bill heard you and immediately obliged. 😉
I did kinda jinx it didn’t I 😅
I enjoyed watching you reacting to The Green Mile, it was so genuine and when you cried, not all the tears were sad ☺️
Thank you so much!!
Thank you! Yeah I’m Swedish, learned English for playing World of Warcraft 😅
I'm not ashamed to say this movie makes me cry everytime I see it. The man deserved better 😢
That’s nothing to be ashamed off! Crying is perfectly normal and natural response to seeing things like this movie. From how I understand it parts of our brains don’t fully understand that it’s made up so partly we process the movie as it’s actually something we are experiencing
The books came in 6 parts. The movie was a great adaptation. I've seen a lot of people react to this and it always makes me cry too. Big hugs!
Thank you for telling me. It’s such a sad movie. I’m gonna watch some reactions of other TH-camrs now that I’ve seen the movie and I’m gonna cry so much more now that the shock of the scene won’t be as severe
Centane did a wonderful reaction
I cry every time I watch this movie, RIP Michael Clark Duncan
Director Frank Darabont also collaborated with Stephen King on what is called one of the best movies
of all time,The Shawshank Redemption, a must watch
The Del execution was the worst Same with when they executed John . AWESOME Reaction
I always thought of the fly like things as the physical manifestation of pain, diease, and anguish.
A close examination of the "flies" that John expels will reveal that they disappear, like burnt, fluffy ashes crumbling to nothing.
@artbagley1406 they also make an interesting noise similar to swarming bugs
Why does somebody always start cutting onions while I'm watching this movie?
I'm not crying, you are! 😮
Seriously, I cry like a big ol' baby EVERY time I watch it. 😢
I cried so much after I finished it, it was like it had to kinda sink in and my brain has time to process what I’ve just watch.
i think you understood the film very well for being the first time and you understood many things immediately. again great editing and a nice plot summary. keep it up. p.s The Green Mile, Misery, The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, IT, Doctor Sleep, Carrie, 1408, Pet Sematary and much more. he gave us many films thanks to his novels. Thanks Stephen. We can only say this
Stephen King also did " Stand By Me '. And many other movies & tons of books.
Thank you for the recommendation!
The director seems very talented. I wonder if I’ve seen anything else of what they’ve made 🤔
@@Sessis Frank Darabont also wrote the screenplays and directed Shawshank Redemption and The Mist.....both are adaptations of Stephen King short stories......both definitely should be on your watchlist if you haven't already seen them.
LOL
In 2008, "The Shawshank Redemption" was named the best movie in the Internet Movie Database's Top 250 cinema-favorites list. It has since overtaken "The Godfather" and "Citizen Kane," which are both still in second place. British movie goers voted it one of the 500 best movies of all time. It's absolutely a movie you need to react to! 🥰
8:25 it is a real thing.
Oh
Good job on the reaction. One that you might like that is much less emotional is "The Princess Bride" it's lots of fun. Another Tom Hanks flick that gets no play is "Joe and the Volcano" lots of goofy fun. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much. I haven’t seen those movies, thanks for the recommendations
I like the way you put black vampire lines on your eyes!
Haha thank you ☺️ how did you know I’m a vampire 👀 🤫
Stephen King is an amazing writer and he's not only writing horror. Stand By Me (1986) is another movie based on his non-horror story (The Body) and Shawshank Redemption is another non-horror story/movie of his. I whole heartily recommend them.
Thank you for the recommendations.
Really amazing movie. It hits hard with the emotions every time. :')
Awesome reaction, thank you and I'm saaaacribing. I hope you do more movie reactions because you're clearly great at it... Tons of great comedies, dramas, rom coms, sci fi and action movies out there!!!
Thank you so much! I’m gonna continue doing more movies, I need something comforting after this heavy movie so my next ones will be animated movies gain but I plan to do more mature movies too
Stephen King also did The Shawshank Redemption which is an absolute must watch and is in most peoples top 10 movies ever.
Yes. Great source material from Stephen King. Let's give Frank Darabont credit for his screenwriting & directing on both these masterpieces.
Many people have been mentioning that movie. I’m definitely watching it in the future. Thank you for recommending it too
And yes definitely the director did a great job and the people making the sets, just overall great movie.
An epic movie with an amazing cast and performances. Has you riding through the full gamit of emotions.
@@Sessis I haven't read it since it came out, but I think I'll read it again as well. Now I'm newly curious about the adaptation.
