dying synthetic leather and suede with acrylic paint

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.ย. 2013
  • A tutorial on how to dye shoes, boots and any synthetic leather or suede material using acrylic paint. I can not stress enough that you are staining not painting the material, so make sure your paint is watered down and DO NOT use a paint brush to apply to leather as it will leave brush strokes. It will take a few coats to get proper color saturation so just be patient with it and let every coat dry fully before applying the next about 24 hours. and again do not use this method on real leather or suede as it will ruin it. Any questions please feel free to ask :)

    I did this to my suede stilettos, they looked a little weird at first but I used fine sandpaper to rub it back to smooth and they look awesome now!

    This worked great.
    I had white children's dress shoes that needed to be cream. I used two coats of cream then added a coat of steeped tea for the right color and that worked over the acrylic paint great too.
    Thanks!

    I bought some sandals at Payless no less! apx. 3 yrs. ago - really unique so bought beige and grey. Wore them so much the beige ones were looking really awful. I have a bunch of these acrylic paints, some matte, satin & gloss from Michael's for different projects.. I'm so impatient I just grabbed the bronze colour and (no water) just used a brush to paint them.. Perfection!

    regular acrylic paint isn't water-based, so even though it was thinned with some water to apply it to the boots, she might have actually made the shoes a little water resistant now.

      Kiralee would be good enough for a costume as she said. But for sure would not hold up for every day use. This isn't actually dying it is painting, and paint is only a top coat. Depending on the material of the faux leather, there are dyes that may absorb into the material and make it permanent

So, no sun or added heat, just let it sit in the house, in the open air, on a table, shelf, floor, or wherever, for 8 to 24 hours, until it feels quite dry, I guess. ////Bunny kisses for all!

    Hi! I’ve been looking around for a tutorial on how to dye faux suede for months. So happy to finally have found this! I’m going to dye a pair of thigh high boots. The material is quite thin, not thick like the boots in the video. What I’m scared of is for the acrylic paint to bleed through the fabric and onto my socks, etc. have you experienced this?

    • @kansasmartin1236
      @kansasmartin1236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      These boots are years old now and I didnt experience any bleeding through and once its dry it should be fine but I cannot guarantee it as mine were thick. If it were me I would try it then wear them for awhile to see you can always were thigh thighs under to protect your skin but I think it should be fin.

    Hi I'm trying this on some pale pink faux sued boots making then a magenta colour. The paint is drying streaky, would just like some reassurance that it's going to be ok...

      I think that in my opinion that a waterproof spray protector on the boots may be causing that. Its a theory, but I would sponge it on in a small circular pattern not across in vertical or horizontal directions. Let's see what the video poster says.

    Hi hun, what paint would you recommend using on beige timberland boots if I wanted them all black?
    Leather paint? Suede paint? Acrylic? Suede Dye? Not sure which one to use,,
    Thanks! x

      You should probably go with actual leather dye since they're probably real leather. I would think acrylic paint would be bad for them.

    my synthetic (handbag) is a very shiny synthetic do I need a primer first?

    • @pcpoltergeist
      @pcpoltergeist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Primer will help a lot with getting a good solid base for the paint to hold on to. Acetone is a good cheap primer you can use. Rub that on your handbag until the surface changes from glossy to dull and wait 15 minutes for it to evaporate.

    Would it have the same affect if I use black ink instead of acrylic?

    • @debraduffy9610
      @debraduffy9610 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you could but dilute it with some water and test it on some white fabric or thick cotton material first. Stuff the inside of purse or shoe with paper or cloth to keep it from seeping through. Use painters tape/masking tape to cover what you don't want painted. Let's see what the poster or others suggest.
