  • In this video, I introduce the idea of using leather acrylic paints to decorate leather. I share my experience of using leather acrylics and why they are more suitable for leather than artists' acrylics. It is often about having the right tools for the job and the type of paint you use can really make the difference.

I have never had a problem using acrylic paints on leather. Using a better grade of acrylic paint may make the difference. I have painted purses, wallets, and belts with no issues. It is what you do with the leather before and after you paint it that makes the difference.

Thanks Elizabeth, a great explaination. I have recently been working with Fenice waterstain dyes and Angelus Acrylic paints, and I learned only yesterday, that the Angelus paints can be cut with water to dilute them down, so that they will infact soak into the leather rather than sit on top. Don Gonzales has a video out on doing this, whch opened up new possibilities as I can work more with the products I have. I recently made my first shaving foam dye project, using Fenice dyes I got From Aimee and Pete at Stonesfield, and this worked out well. Yesterday, I got my daughter involved and we diluted some Angelus paints and used them to create more shaving foam marbling, with great results.I will have to have a go at the Acrylic pour at some point as well, as that looks fun and interesting. We met you at the Face2face meet last year in Oving, and enjoyed chatting and seeing your exhibits. 😊

Hi Mark, wow, you are rocking this! I do remember meeting you and great to read about your experiments. I've not yet tried the shaving foam marbling but will give this a go in due course. I'll also have a look at Fenice as well, so thank you for the recommendation. I have to admit I'm a big Angelus fan. I did try Fiebings too at one point but didn't get on with them.

I am working for Fenice in India . I am leather technologist . I know the product very well '' WATERSTAIN " . I would love to see a video of how you are using Waterstain as a leather paint . I may offer some inputs to work with this product better .
