      Concerning custom cable extensions, would you go through the same process with hiding the PSU cables, This is my first custom PC build and I'm using a fully modular PSU in the NZXT s340 razer case. I have not recieved my PSU in the mail yet but it is an Rm850x from corsair. Sorr if this whole statement sounds stupid but I am not very familiar with PC building yet and if any of my info is confusing ill try to respond and clear it up

    My cable management on the back is fairly bad but it's what I would call organized chaos lol. It's more or less too many cables for that space but I made it work, and the side you look looks neater. The cables coming out of the psu are a bit messy but flow together nicely, blue sleeved cables for my blue themed build :D
    My 24 pin power has the neatest looking configuration, have combs that stayed intact holding it neatly

    Meanwhile here I have to cable manage... In a slim case Mini-ITX. Got a Silverstone RVZ02B (you retweeted it even, Greg, thanks for that!) and I already picked a modular SFX PSU, not SFX-L, to hopefully make it a bit easier, but man... It's hard in this case...

      My favorite case.... Absolutely love it. I did the top of the shroud in Carbon Fiber. Just finished cutting 4 piece of diamond plate, all of which will be sprayed Satin Black. One to wrap around the Optical bay. A new rear wall for mounting SSD's to hide all the factory holes for their rack system. A simple piece to sit behind the PSU opening, and last a fancy piece which is cut around the phanteks case badge and showing a 1/4" of the carbon fiber. It's all about layers and textures. I custom sleeved all my power and Sata cables. Just ordered corsair aoi cooler. I have to cut and bend some more metal to fabricate a vertical mount for the graphics card. I have 6 strips of RGB LED's which I have wired and sleeved, all will run to a controller and remote. 6 strips for even case lighting. I also have a small strip of white LED's for rear I/O lighting, with an external switch. The case is awesome for cable management, lot's room, especially in the basement.

    I just built my friend a pc and was able to make her cables so nice and everything fit easily. Then I redid all my cabled because I got a new psu and even though I tried so hard and tied everything down with zip ties, I still needed someone to help me force the panel on. being able to stuff cables under the drives is so useful and my case can't really do that so all the extra cables are in the side

    Did your case come with extra-long front panel I/O header connectors (i.e., power, power LED, reset, HDD LED, etc.)? If not, where do you get your extensions? All I can find online are 9-pin USB motherboard header extension cables. I just installed 3 new case fans, a gtx 1060 and a new PSU to my prebuilt (Obviously, I'm new to the whole PC building thing). The cables were the last thing I thought about when installing them, and most of them ended up tucked messily away next to the PSU. The rest were tucked behind the back panel, which is now bulging out because the cables are so thick. I have no idea what to do, but I dont think it's hurting my performance(?). I think the problem is that my case is too thin, because the motherboard power cable (I think?) is even too thick on its own for the case to close properly. Do you think it's worth buying a new case, or is the slight bulge fine (It's like 3/16 of an inch thick).

    • @vgud
      @vgud 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jec I'd say so, given that you have extra money to spend on the PSU. You would have a much easier time managing cables, and your PC would look neater. And if your PSU ever breaks, you only need to switch out the actual power supply and keep the cables which is pretty convenient.

    • @fishywtf

      In my experience, most quality PSUs are either fully or semi modular. First and foremost, don't skimp on the power supply. Read up and find one that gets good reviews from reputable sources that fits your budget; chances are the PSU is gonna be at least semi modular.

    • @ApolloTheDerg
      @ApolloTheDerg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jec Absolutely, I have custom sleeved cables on my fully modular power supply and that means I don't have a bunch of extra cables I don't need in the back of my case.

    • @aydinclaridge
      @aydinclaridge 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you swap the PSU for an identical one, I can't see why not. but if you go for a different power supply you'll have problems. Potentially killing components like salazar did not too long ago.

  • @lefthandright01
    @lefthandright01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If cable management is your thing, then take these tips which any enthusiast will all agree upon;
    1) Get custom cables for your preferred form factor size.
    2) Pay attention to where mechanical and solid drive are located. The closer they are, the less likely you'll need multiple sata power cables. Multiple orientations are better. Drive bays that can hold
    multiple sized components are best
    3) Avoid zip ties. Use Velcro you've cut to size. Eventually you'll have access a singular cable at some stage.
    4) Pay a little more for modular cases and P.S.U. Detach anything you don't need currently.
    5) Pay attention to fan cable length. Nothing ruins your day more than discovering one fan cable is 3cm too short to reach the hub.
    6) Avoid using any cable that has a right angle header on it.
    7) Pay a little more for a mobo that has multiple headers around its edge, rather in its center.
    8) Install from the mobo tray up and connect as you go. Nothing will frustrate you more than mounting your c.p.u monster fan and realizing you didn't connect your 8 pin and now you cant reach it.

  • @DJ_Mozer

    Seems like a lot of excess stuffed in the back, what is it? Some of it looks like Molex, could that have been minimized by Molex to SATA adapters? Or vice versa for that matter.

    how dare you acknowledge the unseen side of the case! I worked so hard to make the window panel side look great, so by the time I got to working on the back side I was so anxious to actually use it that I just kinda stuffed all the cables in any spot they'd go. I use the Corsair Carbide Air 540 and proper management would most likely be quite simple, I just don't know if it's worth the effort. This video has def got me thinking it just might be though...

      303 was a nightmare. ATX boards basically scrape the bottom of the case, so if your SATA ports are on the bottom like mine, you're out of luck for 'pretty' routing. Thankfully my second card hides them, but I'm not looking forward to trying to get two slim fans to fit, gonna have to get real crafty.

      Stewart Higgins I have the 303 also, and if your only USB 3 header is at the bottom you're also out of luck

    I must be missing something, but shouldn't the front 2 fans be set as intake and not exhaust? Cuz I see the one in the back is set as exhaust aswell and I didn't see an intake... lmao sry

      But he did so in a PC case, where it's near impossible to suffocate airflow, because it has ventilation holes everywhere and is very big and roomy inside. Do the same test in a cheap budget or a small ATX or ITX case that only has ventilation through the front and the back, and you'd probably get very different results.

      Fireclaw Studios sorry, what does that mean, Actyally intrensifies? I'm not a native speaker, nor am I on urban dictonary that often, so I don't understand...

    • @KittenoftheBroccoli
      @KittenoftheBroccoli 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LRM12o8 "Actyally" is the the phonetic way that people associate know-it-alls with pronouncing the word "actually". Just think of the most stereotypical nerd voice, and imagine how it'd say "actually".
      As for the "intensifies" part, it's just meme-speak.

      Fireclaw Studios OK, thanks. But I still don't fully understand. So you were telling me your comment was sarcastic, is that right?

    Good job but if you could make a video with a budget friendly case, like antec GX505 or something then it would make a lot of sense than working with a case that has excellent cable management options built-in. Thanks.

    Um, forgive my ignorance on this even though I have been building PCs for literal years, but now that I'm into building more high performance stuff, one thing is bugging me...
    What do you guys do with the extra PSU connectors on the cable lines? I'm talking the Molexes, the floppy connectors, and basically all the other extraneous crap on the drive power runs. I don't need Molex connectors or a floppy connector or 30 SATA plugs (not really 30 of them but there are enough of them to be a royal pain), honest.

      Forgot to add something... Right now I'm collecting parts for the new build, but my old one is kind of a mess. It's in an Apevia X-QPack2 case with a Corsair CX-750 modular PSU. I'm running everything I need to (motherboard 24 pin and CPU connectors, one DVD-RW drive, and one HDD), and the remaining PSU cabling is stuffed under the DVD drive and looks like crud if you look at it just right (top and sides of the case have windows)... This same PSU will be going into the new build and I'm trying to avoid the rat's nest of unneccesary wires. The rest of the wiring in the case is as neat as I could get it (never having done so before), but the PSU wiring is a rat's nest.
