      sinbads dad Actually went and looked at newegg, just this second. Only one 1060 under $400 and it is a single fan, 3gb card. And thats at $385. Vega 56 at $1000, Vega 64 at $1200. 1050ti's are over $300 even. Either you're a troll, or you're talking out of your ass. Are they sold out? No. But they are stupidly expensive.

I think Linus caters to people who wish they had infinite $$ to get whatever they wanted. I still watch 99% of his videos. I don't too much care for the other tech TH-camrs as they are more informational and less entertaining. I do PC building/repair for a living and get want to see technology videos as entertainment. No offense to Jay, but this video was GOOD but more informational and less entertaining. We already knew the outcome of the video before he did it, so why not have some fun doing it and let the dun show... This is an inaccurate result because your ambient temp is good. If you are in a tropical place, you will appreciate more of the difference. I used to have a mid tower before without a top mount, so I had to put the radiator in front just like this one on your video. I played Monster Hunter World for an hour or so and my GPU sits at around 80C and my CPU at aroun 75-88C.. Then I decided to get a full tower case with a top mount, and my temp drop to 60C max for the GPU and 65C max for the CPU... That's 20C diff lol.. I live in the Phils. and I don't have an aircon, so it gets really hot here mid day.. Hope this honest data I have will help others wondering here with your vid.

      I don't know what data you are looking at but Airflow is not that big an issue as long as Airflow is present. You people love to over complicate shit. I have built PC's since the 286 days and even repairs on the c64 in my teens. Never have I come across even back then airflow issues causing a failure. That was in the ribbon cable days too. The store bought crap had those issues and those are the stories that still scare the uneducated PC builders to this very day. The only time Airflow might cause an issue is if you join the dummy ranks and start overclocking for negligible gains. Yes the gains aren't enough to warrant the excess heat unless you add water to your electrical system, which in itself screams Dumbass.

    2020 Update - funny I just build a more modern version NZXT 210, and EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 (one of the few next gen cards that fits the case) I use a 140mm intake in front to the graphics, a 120mm AIO intake for the CPU (3700x) and I do have issues cooling the 3080, its a beast and to keep it below 70deg. C. means to reduce the power to about 70%, Airflow is optimised the graphic cart wont get cooler if I open the chasi. I plan to change the top 120mm to a 140mm. But over all it is a challenge, in sense of noice and thermals. Card at 100% can pass 80deg. C. so I reduce the power, as my 4k TV is here the bottleneck with its 60hz.

  • @KompletterGeist
    @KompletterGeist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    BTW the front intake is more than enough despite the solid metal front....I once mounted a wooden plate to my case at the front to see how much "intake" you actually need. Turns out the temperature didn't go up until a gap of 3mm!!!
    So yeah the result of your paper test fits in line with that. You really only need a gap of 3mm (maybe 5 to be safe) in front of your fan to have sufficient airflow.
    On a side note: these fans are designed to take air radially in an blow it out in axial direction. This again fits in line with the conducted tests. :)

    Can you try the Inwin 301. Small and beautiful case, but I think awful airflow

    • @kepeter97
      @kepeter97 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, they are totally beautiful and unique (the 301 maybe not so much)! I was getting bored of the standard case layout, so I got the 303, and I love it.
      About the 301: you can put 4 intakes in it! That would be very high positive pressure, especially in such a small case. It would push the air right out through the back perforations, the PSU, and the rear fan. I'd make the bottom fans be the strongest (fastest), the exhaust medium, and the ones in the front the weakest (so they wouldn't block the perforations on the back).
      Here's how I'd set up mine: 2* Bitfenix Spectre LED on the bottom up to 55% pwm intake, 1 spectre in the rear up to 45% exhaust, 240mm rad in the front with 2 spectres up to 40-45% intake (or exhaust, if temps > dust, at 40%). I'd use spectres, cause I'm a cheap ass mofo, and I also find them great. Silent on low, strong af on high speed (while remaining pretty quiet).
      And also be sure to use a psu which doesn't have a 0rpm mode, cause you'll need it for exhaust.
      FYI: I have a 303, with a 240mm radiator in the bottom between 2 spectres, and 2 EK Vardars (these go up to 12% pwm, cause they would be LOUD otherwise), and a 3rd spectre in the rear-most spot, right under the msi gaming gtx 980. The radiator cools a 5Ghz 7700k. Rear exhaust = spectre; top exhaust 3 140mm be quiet shadow wings (at 7V, ~600rpm), and I put the case's stock fan (@7V) onto the perforated side panel (using twist ties), cause air was getting trapped there.
      It's flawless. Silent at idle, barely audible at 100% load with a low frequency sound, which isn't annoying at all. CPU and GPU go up to 60C (in cpu heavy and/or poorly optimised games, such as AC origins, tc wildlands; otherwise 55 is tops).

      @eirikol1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 301 with a 8700k and a Titan Z I got used (dual gpu card). The Titan card is a bitch in terms of cooling, runs hot no matter what you do... I have a x52 radiator on the front fan mounts that works as an exhaust, having it intake cooked the motherboard, the rear fan and two bottom fan as intake.
      It works fairly well, the Titan is 375w tdp so I have no chance cooling it at all without it getting very, very loud...
      Trying to get hold of a 1080 but ya know...

    I always wanted to switch to a quiet case as my PC is in the living room. A test with one of those padded silent cases would be nice to see if it's OK for a gamer like me (overclocking everything is normal for me).

  • @tomdavidson4164
    @tomdavidson4164 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Removing the side panel doesn't equate to a suddenly 'ideal' scenario. With the side panel on the air is forced to rise (both naturally and because of the front intakes) and then be efficiently exhausted by the top fans, but with it off you suddenly lose that natural cycle of airflow and so less heat is actively moved away from the gpu. Phanteks Evolv ATX tempered glass edition, got this case and has some temps issues , but I made the following changes and seems to be working just fine: Distanced the front plate by adding some stands + longer screws with this I got a 1 cm increase in the side gap (more air flow instantly dropping like 3/4 C on GPU) , CPU radiator up ( it's a 280mm so I blocked off the remaining space on the radiator tray with a thin plastic or cardboard and duct tape, stealthy mod I should add) , and unscrewed the top panel backside for more exhaust (no performance gain for this one though). Next step would be drilling breathing holes/gaps (pattern or model, imagination goes wild on this one) on front plate and/or top, but before I do that permanent mod I would really love to see some more suggestions / mods and so on. I know you have one around there so let's do this !
    Cheers !

    Thank you, I just put my setup in a smaller case, and it's about 24mm above the bottom of the case, or PSU shroud if you will, but it goes most of the bottom of the case, and I wasn't sure if this would be bad for the GPU. My temps, honestly didn't go up, OTHER THAN my GPU junction temps????? No idea how/why, but I swear on my life that is the only thing that changed..... Weird... Oh, one more mention, the GPU used to sit on a vertical mount in the bigger case, and now it is horizontal or normal, whatever you wanna call it. Anyway, thanks for the video, it makes me rest easier.

    Pre-watch: I would think all that mattered was the amount of air going through the case. As long as a good amount of air was going over the components and then swiftly being grabbed by the exhaust fans, then it would be fine. Say, for example, a 70 to 75 degree room would be a nice benchmark, but in an Arizonan/Southern Californian summer, it would be a little bit worse. Choking airflow off from the internal components while it is already warm in the room would just be worst case scenario.

      With at least one fan in front and one in the back you will have enough airflow. LTT did 2 videos related to this with conclusive results. One, that 2 fans are enough (intake and exhaust) and second one that cable management and blocked GPU/CPU fan don't matter.
      1. Case Fans - How many should you have?
      2. Cable Management - Does it impact cooling performance? At all?...

    Phanteks Evolve Shift! I have one and it is awful for non-blower GPU cooling. I currently run a 140mm rad push pull setup for intake/CPU cooling at the bottom with a single 140mm exhaust at the top. I have an EVGA ACX 970 and have max all 3 system fans to reach decent temps, while also adjusting the GPU fan curve. If I leave the fans on a normal curve, the GPU reaches 85c in seconds with normal gaming load. Switching to a blower style GPU is night and day with temps.

    You should try the Fractal Design Nano S with an ATX sized PSU. I had this, before changing out the PSU with one that is SFX. My GPU (EVGA FTW3 1080ti) had more than 1 and a half of its 3 fans blocked. I should also mention that I like running my fans at very low RPMs, but changing to an SFX PSU made it possible to run the same quiet fan profile with much better temps. The worst I’ve seen the temps go to was 90C with fan speed at 48%, glad I don’t have this problem anymore with the SFX PSU.

    The Phanteks EVOO Evolv cases are really horrible with air flow. Every aspect from front panels to top ventilation, despite support for fans and little expansion for liquid cooling (which would seemingly be the reason for the lack of air flow, though a bad one). It's perplexing and seems to be a huge affect of the then-popular fashion over function.

  • @WookieeRage

    Since it's such an older video this is pretty much irrelevant, but the way you added the paper it looks like you just bent it slightly and placed it between the battery shroud and the gpu. I'm not convinced that the paper wasn't butted up against the gpu fans instead of just blocking off the perforated battery shroud as you intended. At no point could you see the paper from the front which seems to support my hypothesis.
    That being said, even if my observation is correct it didn't make a difference with the overall goal of the test. I just thought it was sloppy test methods, which again didn't interfere with the end goal. Just my ocd kicking in.
