Thank you sir for giving a detailed instruction on how to repair our vacuum pumps. Patience is a virtue and you have plenty of it as demonstrated by your quiet attitude and length of time spent on behalf of anyone who has had problems with their vacuum pumps. I am now more confident that I can repair mine and will gladly purchase your repair kit for my 01 ram 2500. Now with 100K miles, it has had a slow leak for about 30K miles. It's time to get it fixed. Thanks again for your fantastic presentation.

Great kit and great video here! My 1998.5 4 X 4 has 330,000 miles, and the vacuum pump and drive dogs weren't in that bad of shape. I had to use a bearing splitter on the drive, put in the 20 ton press, and it did go pow when it turned loose.

I purchased this kit about 12 years ago from Geno's Garage. The DVD (this video) that came with the kit was the best I'd had seen up to that date and honestly, still is the best, most thorough and concise how to video I've ever seen. That says a lot given the innumerable how to video's currently available on TH-cam. Thank you so much for putting so much thought into this instructional video. The biggest mistake folks make when creating how to video's is they're unability to put themselves in the mind set of someone who has never performed the given task. It's so easy to leave out details that are common knowledge and routine to the experienced person leaving the inexperienced to have difficulty in performing a successful repair. This video should be a "must watch" for those who wish to create thoroughly helpful video's enabling someone who has never performed a given task to do so with the best outcome. "Brian's Mobile One" mechanic videos are very similar in nature, check them out.

I bought your kit from Geno's Garage, and it turned out the DVD was scratched (either that or my DVD drive is garbage, still not sure). I'm so glad y'all uploaded it to youtube as well, haha! Saved me the guesswork of what was missing on that scratched part!

Mr. Gould's kit worked great... better than factory rebuild part kit.
Here are a few tips I pulled together from several other videos and blogs that I hope will save many of you a lot of time and scraped knuckles getting the pump off and back on. I have a 1998 12-valve engine 4x4. Getting access to the pump appeared to be almost impossible, but thanks to others I learned these tips:
1 - Remove the fender liner by drilling out the plastic rivets. This gives much better straight-on access. To reinstall the fender liner use replacement rivets (Mopar P/N 34201631 at $7.75 per rivet. Way too expensive!) from Auveco P/N 18108 at $8.50 for a box of 25.
2 - Once the fender liner is removed, pressure wash the side of the engine at a DIY carwash. The side of my engine was loaded with dirt and oil-soaked gunk that likely would have fallen into the gear case while pulling or reinstalling the vac pump
3 - Remove the driver side battery, and the air duct hose between the intercooler outlet and the intake manifold to get better access from the top. Be sure to insulate the positive terminal by wrapping it with rags and covering it with a plastic bag, or disconnect both batteries.
4 - Put the driver side end of the front axle on a jack stand, then remove the driver side front wheel. You now can reach right in to get at many of the hose clamps and bolts/nuts.
    Good luck!

    Amazing video, Mr. Gould!
I had a real hard time pulling my broken gear dog. I found that putting a slight grind into opposite sides of the groove WITHOUT going through into the shaft, it helped the puller to seat better. It kept slipping out of the groove other wise. Just my 2 cents.
    Thanks again. 👍

My power steering and brakes went out on my 99 4x4 cummins and after replacing my power steering pump I was stumped why there were 2 pieces sheared off an why the coupler disc moved freely. I figured it was normal and someone before me replaced the pump and never took the pieces out. They still didn't work so I figured it would be the hydroboost. I wasn't going to watch this video because of the length however I'm so glad I did because now I know it's my vacuum pump not my hydroboost! Thank you so much! Very helpful

I didn't even have to bleed mine for some reason but I replaced mine with a new vaccum and ps pump that has hydroboost. I filled it up started it up and drove it and it steered easier then the old pump. I have a 94 dodge 12v 4x4, for another note when I replaced it my oil feed line was 1 3/4 to short(because the oil fitting was clocked more towards the motor on the old stock vac pump for some reason). So I got mopac to make a braded line 2 inches longer with the npt fittings pressed on cost me 20 bucks got her back on the road again. I m sure your all wondering well why are you on here if you replaced yours with new, well I want to reman my old vac/ps pump for a back up or to possible sell. I just wanted to share my experience maybe help someone. Excellent vid by the way, your the man! I have one question is there a bearing in the front of these vac pump near timing case or not?

**Updated** Can you tell me if a 1990 Dodge Cummins 250 w/o intercooler and the oldest style vacuum pump can be retrofit with the later 2-piece vac pump & power steering pump, like the one for a 1998 12 valve, if the owner is willing to have make new P/S hoses made?
Mr. Gould - Thank you for your time on the phone today. I'm happy to learn how easy it is to upgrade to a 2-piece vac pump and newer power steering pump for the old 1990 Dodge 250 Diesel. Glad to hear no new hoses will be needed.

I should have watched the entire video. I did not service the vanes of the pump and ended up not making vacuum until I revved the engine to over 1500 RPM's. The oil line from the engine does not want to quit leaking so I guess that I'll replace it and the fitting to try for "no Leaks".
