What do you think is going on with the Braves?

Actual Braves fan here. There’s many reasons for the struggle. However I disagree with Ben saying it’s overall mediocre. If that were the case then they would not be the #1 WC team in the NL. A league wide power outage and the baseballs not travelling like they used to will affect power hitting teams. The Braves are number 1 on that list. Even the Rangers who were the most powerful AL team last year behind us are monumentally struggling this year offensively. Statistics have show balls are being hit just as hard and exit velocity is the same as last year but balls are travelling on average 15 less than in 2023…. That’s a big difference. As a whole the Braves have averaged about 4.33 runs per game to this day. That’s middle of the pack and slightly above depending on the day. In the last 9 game specifically 7 of those 9 they averaged 5+ runs per game! That’s more akin to last year. To me the big pieces in the order, Kelenic, Albies, Riley, Olson, Ozuna, Sean, and D’arnaud will collectively find the consistency they are known for. Jarred, Austin, Marcel, Sean, and Travis are all pretty much back to normal. Ozzie is up trending but the biggest problem at the top of the lineup is Olson. He is having a down year and the power outage is a culprit. K’s are up and BB’s are down for him. It does bother me that people constantly compare them to last year. Yes historical but it’s so hard to replicate that year after year. The big pieces are normally very good last year was not an abnormal fluke. It just all clicked really well and there was very little injury. A lot of guys have missed time not just Ronald and Harris the II. This team is having a hard season but here has been a lot of good signs lately that we haven’t seen in a while. AA will be looking for a couple outfield bats by the deadline and helping the lineup. The bottom is a hole right now and it just struggles to help the upper half reliably. One thing I’ve learned about this lineup after being a passionate fan for years now…. They will never ever stop working until they have achieved their goals. If they aren’t performing the way they want at the plate then they work until they are. They aren’t where they want to be collectively now but down the road they will find their normalcy again.

The MLB All Star Game is still the only one of the four major team sports All Star Games I will watch even though it is really nothing more than an exhibition game and showcase for the sport. Glad they did away with basing the home advantage in the World Series on the the outcome of the game. Have no problem with having each team represented with at least one player in the game, but wish they would go back to the players wearing their team's caps and uniforms rather than generic AL and NL ones.

I think Ben is wrong about All-Star snubs. The All-Star game is for the Fans of every team. Not the players. Every team being represented should be prioritized over a snub or two. If you start down the road where every single last player with great numbers get in and pushes out the sole representative from another team then before too long you’ll only see Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox and Braves players in the All/Star game. Or whatever team it is that has the biggest stars at that time That would suck. If say for example Jesse Winker had made it but Shota was left off then the entire Cubs fanbase, which consists of you know, a couple two or three people would have little reason to care.

Nah.. having the best of the best going head to head is ideal. Your premise of there potentially only being reps from a handful of big-market or top tier organizations is fearmongering nonsense when a cross section of fans, AND players, AND coaches have a say on the roster.

@@2sday538 no. That’s the ones whose team that play in the World Series. If you not there then you’re not all that. That’s the point of the thing. The point of the All-Star is to see the best one from each team. That’s why it’s been the ways it is since it started. Can’t go alienating fans to make one or two players who feel better about big numbers.

@@Ben_Verlander I side with every team having at least one guy. You would have a revolt if one entire Fan base couldn’t see their teams best player. I look at it from the fans perspective. MLB knows full well, from a business perspective that snubbing a player is less unfair than snubbing an entire fanbase.
