So the first thing I thought of when I saw 2014 draft being bad was, at least a pretty good current Phillie, meaning their own pick, Nola, is good. And then to find 3 other current Phillies who are also decent players was a bonus.

There was a time when I lived in East Texas and I would often stop in Shepherd on my trips to Houston, since it's a nice and quaint little town. So I was pretty excited when Tyler Kolek was drafted second overall. It's a shame that Tyler's career never materialized, and the fact that Stephen was able to Majors this season may be one of life's greatest ironies. Anyways, fun video.

The most enduring image of Nick Gordon I have is him smacking the top of the Target Field dugout in celebration when Royce Lewis smashed a home run in the 2023 postseason.
I don't know why that was the celebration he went with, but his brother includes "strange" in his name and doesn't believe that the moon is real. He's an international man of mystery, I guess.

Nola has a better shot for sure, with the control he’s got I can picture him pitching until he’s 40 maybe longer. My knock on Turner is that I don’t know how he’s gonna age. He’s really gonna have to rely on his bat in about 2 years. His bat is awesome but the speed is also a big part of his game, can’t picture his legs and subsequently his defense aging super well.

Here's another great thing about Nola. Usually, an NBA team's first round pick debuts that year, while the great majority of MLB picks, if they make it at all, don't. Nola debuted in 2015. The 76ers' 2014 pick, Joel Embiid, didn't debut until 2016!

35:56 Not only did Rodón throw a no-hitter, it was a lollipop curveball grazing Roberto Perez's backmost toe (on an 0-2 count, no less) from being a whole-ass perfect game.

Your choice to have King Kunta as the background music during the sections where you talked about the pitchers who played for the Rockies lowkey might have a deeper meaning, as the lyric “I was gonna kill a couple rappers but they did it to themselves”that is said in that song is similar to the belief that when a good pitcher signs with the Rockies, they probably kill their career. Was this intentional?

I'm surprised Brady Aiken isn't talked about nearly as much as Mark Appel for the biggest MLB bust.
Also, I don't know what was happening in sports in 2013 and 14 but the majority of draft classes among all major sports from those two years were pretty awful

while Freeland's numbers overall are bad this year, he has a 1.71 ERA in his last 26 innings pitched, really wild stats by month, April: 13.21 ERA, May: Injured, June: 1.42 ERA, July, 1.98

Baseball is one of the sports that I never follow when it comes to the draft or player development. But I think it's because there's so little hype when it comes to young players. I feel like even the NHL has more hype when it comes to new draftees.
I follow the NFL, NBA, and NHL drafts but I can't list the draft year of a single MLB player at all. Like ever.

for as much talk there is about pitchers struggling at coors, kyle freeland epitomizes what it ought to look like for anybody pitching at coors who wants to succeed. The numbers weren't great to start the year but he's been electric since coming off the IL and he has always been a dog that players rally around. For pitchers like Jeff Hoffman, Ryan Feltner, Tyler Anderson or anyone else (current or former rockies) that has struggled pitching at Coors this is in no way meant to put them down BUT it is so frustrating as a rockies fan all the time to just hear people give a cop out of an answer when pitching at coors comes up. Pitchers who want to succeed at coors find ways to adapt (i.e. Cal Quantrill) and they play with a chip on their shoulder. Lastly, success at coors just cant be measured the same if the excuse that "oh well he sucked cause he was a rockie and had to pitch at coors" is ALWAYS getting thrown around
TLDR: kyle freeland is a dog, succeeding at coors field is not impossible, and a tired narrative combined with the perpetual suffering associated with being a rockies fan has left me exhausted. Curious for other peoples thoughts on this...
