    That's cool! I saw a video by Mentour Pilot that feature an Air Canada flight at night, and thought it looked just like the flight i usually take, but I didn'T want to use other people's images in my videos of course, and it seemed pretty complicated to make animations myself. They would mostly be for sequences when i'm travelling and flying to show the outside of the plane, which i obviously cannot film from my phone LOL. My channel is still too small to go to such lengths, but i had an idea though while listening to Live ATC. I'm going to pre-record the audio from the same flight i'm taking at takeoff and landing from the same flight but a previous date, then add that audio to my travel vlog. Yay! it's a start 💜

    Hi Q8, I recommend a sound baffle on the wall. I used R Sound insulation ( approx 2 in thick ) surrounded by a 2X2 wood frame all covered with black cloth and hung it on the wall. No more echo. Cheap to do also. Good luck - love your videos.

    Sound: put indoor/outdoor carpet on the desktop, work 7 inches from the mic, consider a mic baffle like the Auray products. Then consider thick curtains on one wall and rugs or carpet.

    Q8 your videos are always pretty smooth. I use RTX2080 8g i7 8700 and my recordings are smooth "in-game" but look pretty bad (choppy) after recording. Encoding H.264 is CPU intensive so this might benefit from newer multi core ( even tho XP uses only 1-4). I have tried all the tweeks in GE Overlay and still occurs. Recently purchased Corsair One i160. Hope it resolves stutters in recordings. If not, going back to Best Buy! LOL

    I`m using the Blue Yeti mic and also use Shadowplay to record X-Plane,cause with OBS the screen starts flickering somehow and sometimes i use DXtory but that program does not always cooperate with certain games.And i also use Vegas Pro 14,i tried adobe premiere but that has a very steep learning curve.And for the thumbnails i also use Photoshop,i used it to create my own liveries with it to and made a tutorial for it.

    Thanks for this video...very useful! Ironically a "studio-quality" mic is not necessarily your friend if the room is not great...as it will only be that much better at capturing all the flaws of the room. I agree with others on the SM-58...great quality and relatively cheap.
    One question about cable choice (had no idea it makes a difference with frame rate): does this rule also apply during regular game play, or just when recording videos?
    BTW THANK YOU for mentioning that you don't use cinematic filters. I find the overuse of them (and too many quick cuts) very annoying. I like to see great sequences of aircraft and scenery...not stylized Hollywood productions.

    As someone who has experience with sound engineering etc, I would advise using the Shure SM7B, made famous by Michael Jackson. It is an affordable option (I say that, it's a couple of hundred pounds depending on where you get it but really worth it). It gets rid of any background noise that is unwanted better than most. I used it for Podcasting and it was ideal, but it is also really versatile too. It isn't USB, but there aren't many (or any I know of) that are of such quality that are. It will probably save you a lot of work messing around with plugins. But if you want to double up, iZotope Ozone or Nectar (the former maybe overkill the later would be ideal).

    • @Q8Pilot
      @Q8Pilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a whole bunch for the valuable information and your recommendation. I will put the microphone on the list of things to buy for sure.

    • @britbanter9673
      @britbanter9673 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries. They are the sort of things you won't need/want to replace once you have them. I thought I'd take the time to give you the advice since I have quietly got a lot of useful information from your videos on here so thought I'd give back. Someone did advise the Shure SM58. They are very good mics and much cheaper, however they aren't as good at blocking background noise so you would need some accoustic foam to help dampen things (or something to go around the mic) which would be a bit cumbersome for your requirements. You will need a desk stand for the mic I have mentioned. Make sure it is a sturdy one as the mic is heavy.
      Finally, if you get chance would it be possible to do some tutorials for noobs like me on XP 11. I followed the tutorial on the xplane org Flight School about programming the FMC, I tried to follow it using the default 737, but it appears the FMC doesnt have all of the things it should. Maybe explain what is missing and how it would be different in reality, or maybe how it is different on the 737 to the 767 in real life, I don't know either way, but these details are helpful to know. Some tips on landing would be really helpful if you ever get time to do a vid on it as although there might be other people who have done it, it is hard finding a tutorial that I can actually trust (eg lots of people might do them, but many of them know as much as I do, so might miss lots of important things).
      From experience I know how long editing takes, so I understand the time constraints and prioritizing, but would be great to see some new ones from a trusted source.

  • @jackieliu3091
    @jackieliu3091 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another thing I want to point out is that NVidia shadow play recording will generate variable frame rate video instead of fixed frame rate video, no matter 30 fps or 60 fps you choose, it is not going to match exact 30 fps or 60 fps. What it means is that if you use the generated raw source file to produce your content, you will have some kind of audio out of sync issue, especially when you record for over 30 minutes. Most of the video editing software does not support variable frame rate to constant frame rate fix, but you can use software like "Handbrake" for example to convert the raw source file to fixed frame rate video file. Then you can import those fixed files to create your own content. Btw, if you publish the raw source file directly (without editing or cutting) to TH-cam or view it using video player, you will not see audio out of sync and the reason is because TH-cam and your local video player support variable frame rate video. So you will never see audio out of sync. But do make sure to check your "produced" video for this kind of issue.

    • @Q8Pilot
      @Q8Pilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this Jackie, I never knew this before. I normally do check the videos and also fix the frame rates using the video editing software. So far so good, but I will certainly look into this further.

    Your echo is not the result of bad mics, it's the result of the empty room. Fastest and easiest way to reduce echo would be to hang thick carpets on the walls. Even better is to hang them from the ceiling and let them hang straight down and surrounding you into a smaller "chamber", it'll reduce echo like you think you're in a studio.

    What you can do to soften or kill the echo is to put some carboard egg boxes on the wall in front of you so that absorbs your voice.

    • @Q8Pilot
      @Q8Pilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest problem is that the wall in front of me has a big glass door leading to the balcony. It would be difficult to put anything on that door, but perhaps Acoustic Panels can work. I will need to experiment a bit I guess.

  • @GameAddict457
    @GameAddict457 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    About the echo you can try to buy some soundproofing panels. There a some cheap ways to do it and some more expensive but it should work to remove echo.

    • @Q8Pilot
      @Q8Pilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know where I can get the good quality ones? I would be very interested in this option as I have already spent an arm and a leg on mics. Thanks a million!

    • @GameAddict457
      @GameAddict457 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look in amazon for "soundproofing panels". You will find some options or at least you will get an idea about what you need. Not sure how many are necessary though. Depend of the room. That's what the recordings booths have to avoid echo and other noises.

    • @chamberlin1
      @chamberlin1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q8Pilot thanks for the reply! It offers a personal look into your world which (to me) keeps the audience more engaged and the content more interesting. It's just a little less claustrophobic than the screen capture by itself, if you know what I mean... Great stuff either way though!

    The echo is not caused by the microphone, some well placed acoustic tiles "or even just hanging blankets around you while you narrate" will fix the echo by absorbing the sound waves.

      You can just record on “Quick Time” in your Mac.
      Or use OBS to record on.

    I installed a Lot of ortho4xp (zl17) and mesh scenery, but then I noticed that I dont eben have 20 FPS! So I decided (wanted to do it anyway) to Upgrade my PC. I wanted to ask, if These specs are good enough, to Run XP11 always at high settings + Ortho4XP scenery at min. 30 FPS. Or wheres to choose netter hardware to get it to this Level.
    CPU: Intel Core i7700(k)
    GPU: EVGA GTX 970 (thats my Old One)
    RAM: 2x32 gb
    Storage: 500bg SSD (Defenitly Upgrade it, but latr)
    +1000HDD
    Mainboard: Asus MSI Z270

      upgrade your GPU AMD's new Rx580 8gb is beating the gtx 1060 in most areas for only £220 so its cheaper and a bit faster with more memory or you could get two in crossfire get performance near to of a gtx 1080 but with lots more memory capacity great for when you have all the ortho's airports etc installed you are really going to need more than 4gb GPU memory when running orthos and airport addon etc . as for your Cpu you cant go wrong with the i7 7700k.

      James Randall But the weird thing is that the GTX 970 does a great job. In task manager it shows me that it isnt used more then 50% but my CPU is always at about 100%...😂

    Echo? Try dynamic microphones like SM58 instead of using condenser microphones.

    • @Q8Pilot

    • @jackieliu3091
      @jackieliu3091 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, it eliminates echo + noise by nature, but you will need an audio interface as well. Just make sure to buy a USB/XLR audio interface if you want to use dynamic microphones. I use one from Focusrite with my Shure SM57 for acoustic guitar recording on my PC. SM58 + USB/XLR audio interface will cost you around $200 but definitely worth it.

    You might consider having a soundproofing panels on the walls to lower the echo on the room. You can find them on ebay, here is one of them: Look at this on eBay www.ebay.com/itm/172571266115

    OK, I found a link from B&H photovideo that describes room sound audio solutions: th-cam.com/video/1vJ84GV3SZU/w-d-xo.html They have lots of great technical videos and great prices on gear. They are trying to sell you stuff, but they give good info to help you decide because they sell EVERYTHING and aren't just trying to sell a particular brand. Looks like a screen behind the mic and a blanket would work very well.

    Oh god. Please don't use a razor mouse. Get a corsair K95 keyboard perhaps the generation that is one before the latest one that just released (cause new one has less G keys). Then get a mouse that is good like the Logitech g502. Also, for you echo problem, get acoustic foam like someone else suggested: www.amazon.com/Pack-Acoustic-Panels-Studio-Wedges/dp/B010GPFRUQ/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_267_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HWCVRANW0A4YVPBQRPQY

    oh you have a microphone?! doesn't sound like you have one. sounds too like too much echo and far away

    • @Q8Pilot
      @Q8Pilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Erick, the echo is not that bad, and the mic is right in front of me so I would suspect that you probably have an old sound system or no sound system at all. Perhaps you are using the built in monitor speakers. Even with that you should get clear sound. I would check the sound system. Let me know if I can help.

    First of, another great video, thank you! In reference to your microphone question: Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of room echo and reverb with any type of microphone that is any distance away from you, especially good ones that are very sensitive. Software can only slightly reduce the unwanted ambience, and then mainly after you stop speaking by applying noise gates.
    There are two options if you don't want to manipulate the actual room to swallow higher frequencies (which I think you don't at the moment):
    - There are screens you can link to mics which will protect them from unwanted reverb in the direction of the screen. I've used these to record singers in locations with a bad noise print. They are not super effective, though (e.g. like these www.thomann.de/de/the_tbone_micscreen_le.htm?glp=1&gclid=Cj0KEQjw2-bHBRDEh6qk5b6yqKIBEiQAFUz29rWgeY3NrSk9QtdX9rl8N3CkkYVdrhE0QvLbYcEno4EaAvvq8P8HAQ). These might not fit the more "gamer" focused USB mics.
    - You could use a Lavalier microphone (the ones people in TV use where you have the same problem of unwanted noise). However, these are never USB plug and play and need to be connected to a mic amp or fitting sound card. The only drawback is that they also record excessive movement of the clothing they are on.
    - I think headsets with good mics are the best option, especially when fed into a proper soundcard with decent amplifiers (e.g. Steinberg UR line).
    - Alternatively, Shure SM7B works nicely and gives voices a pleasant tone, but you'll need a rather large mic stand to place it in direction of your mouth (radio style). Still, I've had unwanted echo with my 7B in a large room with empty walls (but it was a music production, I think it won't matter for videos).
    Recording mics like the mentioned ones (AT2020, SM58, C414, Rhode NT1A,...) will all a) record the room or b) are very directional. That means if you slightly move your head and the angle to the mic, this will be very audible in level and the frequency distribution.
    If you want to kill the high frequencies (which are producing the "echo") in the room, you can dampen it, but in an empty medium sized room, that is going to be costly and you'll need to plaster most of the walls with the foam tiles.
    A cheap but ugly solution is surrounding your PC place with something that screens that place from the rest of the room, e.g. blankets.

      Thank you so very much for watching and for your detailed explanation. I will be sure to take a look at this in detail and follow your advise and that of others. It looks like I am going to buy several more mics to test things out =)

      I'm not sure what your capabilities are in adjusting the layout of your room, but hanging blankets or anything else on the walls can also be a solution to help absorb some sound. While I am making large assumptions right now, the houses I have frequented when in Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi all typically had plaster or concrete walls and some form of ceramic tile for floors. These types of building materials naturally make a lot of echos. So anything that can cover them up like blankets or carpets may help out. Even taking corrugated cardboard and bending it and hanging it would work. It may be ugly, but it may work.
