I know it's been awhile but I'm seriously thinking about buying one and daily driving it. What was maintenance like? And insurance for your state? And just general upkeep?
I'm on my second E92 and I've never had an issue with the electronics, throttle actuators, seat belt hander, or MPG. My 2008 had over 90k miles when I sold it and my 2013 has just over 50k now. Both were 6 speeds and both averaged 22-23mpg
No doubt that the F8x are way faster but the E9x sounds so much better and the steering is better. The fact that Nick felt sad trading in his E92 and doesn't miss his F82 speaks volumes.
doesn't mean it's better. I have both an e46 and an f30, they both feel really good to me in their own ways. But I do gotta say that the F30's is better.
Nice video! I just bought a 2011 Comp package in Jerez black also and with 6speed;) has Miestershaft GT2 full titanium exhaust on it already and I love it! I came from e46 M3.
I recently picked up a new daily driver. I had the E92 M3 on my mind for 2 years. I finally got to drive one. I was pretty happy and everything. The one I was looking was a little beat up. I scared the sales man when I drove it lol. Anyway, I ended up test driving a 435xi right after and It shocked me. The 435 fit all the things i needed or wanted in my next daily. Fast forward to 3 weeks, I have slight buyers remorse. lol. That E92 M3 is a beast. Maybe if i sell my 1991 850, i will pick one up. But i do agree, this is the last true M car. I test drove a slightly modded M4, and it shocked me a lot, but i still preferred the E92 M3 compared to the M4.
So the 435 is a great car. Did you get an automatic? If you did and it’s not a Sport Auto trans you can program it and it will shift hard and fast almost like a DCT. Also the N55 is one of the best sounding engines BMW has ever made, especially with no cats
Great vid! Loved my E92M in the year that I've had it. You're right about the market, actually about to sell it for pretty much the same price I got it for. Crazy
I have the 2010 M3 Cpe, and while I understand your gripes, I haven't experienced them with mine. What I did experience recently was strange noises coming from the rear, almost like the tires were rubbing. My dealer correctly diagnosed it as the LSD needed cleaning (flushing out) and refilling. Apparently a common issue. I am 6'5" and do not find the seating position an issue. While 18 MPG does seem poor (and 8MPG at the track!!), it was a refreshingly good change from my previous V10 M5 which was returning 13 MPG even on trips back and forth to work!! The electronics have not been an issue; the tech is even more modern after 7 years than my 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo; the DCT isn't an issue (mine is a manual - I like your back seat passenger's comment); 36K miles, so no throttle actuator issues (yet!); there is reasonable storage under the center armrest; and finally your STEATBELT hander??? Mine has a SEATBELT hander, which most people find elegant, amusing and gentlemanly, often saying "Thank You" to it!! Still I do agree with your positive comments, and even think the best feature (certainly over more recent M's) is the handling and steering. I take my car to the track and while that is amazing, I rarely get out of the car after a "normal" drive on So Cal roads without a smile on my face. The true test of a sports car!
Nick, love your videos. I owned a 2009 E92 M3 for 2 years now. 7-DCT, Alpine white, painted black wheels, carbon fiber kidney grilles and hand brake. alcantera steering wheel. It's a gas guzzler and it'd expensive for a college student to run. But I love her almost as much as my girlfriend. Wish you could see my car and drive her haha.
scanspeak00 way less? In which way? The e92 had as much electronic as they could possibly cram into a car. Seriously, EVERYTHING is electronically controlled. Want a mechanical car? Go back the first M3.
Hi Nick - love your videos! I have a 2013 E92 M3 MT6 with almost no options (ie-no iDrive). I picked it up in Munich in 3/2013, near the end of its production run. I planned to keep it for 3-4 yrs then trade it in on a 991.2 but couldn't because I enjoy it so much. I don't drive it often--I have about 10k miles on it--but I now I plan to keep it forever. The engine is wonderful to listen to, and the analog feel of the car is not something any modern car has. I think it's like a 1970 Hemi Cuda: supremely stupid, and absolutely sublime. In their GBU section, CAR magazine used the words, "prodigious thirst" to describe it. Like you, I don't disagree.... Thanks for highlighting it in this video. (BTW-I'm getting an F80 com pak M3 MT6 this sept,SC delivery instead of a 911. I like the idea of having two M3s that are so completely different.)
That 6th aggressiveness step is what enables Launch Control. You need to have warmed up the car, then stop somewhere flat, let off the brake, hold the shifting knob forward until a race flag appears in the center console, then press the gas pedal hard, it will spool up to ~5k rpm, then let go of the shifter you were holding forward. The car launches and you just need to press the gas pedal, it changes gears FOR you at redline, until you stop holding the gas pedal or press the brakes.
Nice review Nick, I had an e92 M3 for 3 years before moving into a 991.2S. It's funny that it seems like a natural path for a lot of car enthusiasts. The BMW was a beautiful and practical car and I still love the styling, however it's just so heavy and slow. The sound is definitely the most attractive aspects of this car for sure - I had the ACM mod done and it sounded just killer. The fact is that porsche 991 platform is so significantly better that I just don't miss mine at all.
I owned a 2011 E93 which was a hard top convert. Owned it for 5 years and just sold it with 20K miles. Loved the looks of it and sound of the engine. Hated the auto transmission and was definitely concerned about future expensive engine problems.
On my 2nd E92 M3. amazing cars. The s65 is a dream. Nick - why were you driving in drive mode ???! I drive manual mode 95 percent of the time with my dct - such a nicer more engaging drive. nicer in fact than driving my last manual transmission e92 M3. Also the sound the s65 makes when you downshift in manual mode is heaven !
Can't believe I am watching a video about the E9X M3 from a guy who doesn't know that there is a 6th speed setting for the DCT.... but then again, been watching Nick's videos for years and he is a cool, funny guy!
Haha ok fair enough. I was like "there is NO WAY". Glad you still love the E9X M3 so much though. Shows me at least that you're a "real" car guy. Keep it up!
Nick ...... what ever your's Porsche or BMW M4 previously owned .... there nu comparison between BMW M3 e92 or the other cars in terms of feelings ! This M3 e92 is the CAR perfect to everything ! Is old now .... but that sensation rewing to 8400 rpm is no where near to Porsche Carrera S 4wd, or the BMW M4 !Is my dream car ! Unfortunately in my country, I can not afford one, not in 10 years from now(second hand of course) ! REspect! And keep up the good work !
Nick I have an e92 myself and agree it's an absolute gem; a car I'll keep for a long time. My next step is to add a Harrop supercharger and I'd love for you to give a review of it down the road. Cheers
Nick, We're twins. I also had a 2008 M3 (even trade for gen.1 997) in manual. Had it to 147 mph on test drive until salesman got nervous. Agree with your likes/dislikes list. Ultimately I wanted another 911(991.1) and traded it in after 4 years. My top dislikes were the manual gearbox, MPG otherwise it was a blast and one of the most comfy sports cars I've had.
great video. I have a e92 335i and agree with just about everything you said. I pulled the fuse for the seatbelt hander and switched the left paddle shifter to be pull to down shift.
Pretty much spot on Nick. I'd add the rod bearings. I replaced mine last August just to make sure and they were looking worn, something that shouldn't be happening and could lead to total engine failure. We are also affected by the defective Takata airbags and BMW has yet to produce enough to replace them all. I'm sitting in front of a grenade essentially. Other than that, I really love my E90. It's been really hard to find a reason to let it go and get into something newer. Wasn't a fan of the F8x's and I think there's more to that M2 than what they released. Hopefully the M2 CS is real and wouldn't mind getting into that, but it'll still be a sad day to give up the M3.
Nick you should see mine. Alpine white exterior, black wheels, just looks awesome. Will be trade her in for a F12 M6. I think I may cry in the dealership.
This car needs the GTS DCT flash. It quickens the shift and puts the car into auto mode (D2) instead of manual mode first. Really transforms the way the car behaves daily. Well worth the hundred bucks or so for the upgrade! It's an absolute must for all the DCT E9X M3's!
Great video, Nick. One thing, though. The e92 is a coupe, not a sedan or saloon. Along with being the last ever V8, the last ever naturally aspirated M3, etc., the e92 is the last ever 2-door/coupe M3. The e90 is the 4-door sedan/saloon. But of course we have another four-door M3 sedan/saloon with the f80. Thanks for the video. I think the 6MT strippers will be in highest demand as time passes, especially low-mile, non-modified examples.
in some geographic areas his nomenclature is correct; since it is a 2 door version of the 4 door it is still considered a 2 door sedan. I find this is the case especially in Europe and APAC.
There is a simple fix for the seatbelt problem. BMW has provided a plastic piece, that goes onto seatbelt rod at the floor, which forces the bottom of the seatbelt to be more forward, which in turn makes the seatblet actuator work more reliably. Check with your BMW dealer.
over 100K Subs Nick Good Job Mate!! I have had both e92 and F80 M3. I have to say I do love my current one (F80) more. I guess it's a matter of choice or tastes. Don't get me wrong I loved the E92.
I do like these. but I don't think they'll appreciate a ton. Mustangs(well all modern muscles cars really) offer more performance for similar prices with less maintenance. Yes, they're obviously different demographics, but the experience is much more similar than you'd think. glorious v8 with a manual and a comfortable but sporty ride...food for thought.
No one wants a mustang outside of the US, they have no desirably unfortunately. These things will definitely appreciate over time. I am missing mine already, i can definitely see myself buying one in the future for an over the odds price to 'relive my youth'.
I've had an e92 m3 for 6 years, put 70000 miles on it so far. Doesn't begin in S mode start; no bulbs gone ; no throttle actuator fail; 23-24 mpg combined cycle , so given US speed limits, you must be thrashing yours off the mark every chance you get if you're only getting 18mpg in a country with a 55mph speed limit (i tend do hit the Uk motorways at 80-90...does US gas burn dirtier maybe?). And no rod bearing issues. Agree on the seatbelt hander though...need to try your ironing trick!
55 is far from the highest speed limit in the U.S, most are 70 and a few 80 mph. It's only 55 around a populated areas. Further, we do not respect the speed limits as much over here. The penalties aren't as harsh, people drive more aggressively in general, we are legally allowed to use countermeasures such as laser jammers/ radar detectors, speed cameras are illegal in most states and getting a license to begin with is very easy. I got clocked at 98 in a 70 and it was a $260 fine, in many parts of Europe that would be bigger fine, and probably a suspended license along with it. I cruise at 90+ everyday on the Jersey Turnpike and I'm never the fastest car, I always get passed by someone going 100+.
Nick, I'm glad you mentioned the "meaty" steering wheel. After driving the E92 M3 again, do you find your 911 steering wheel doesn't compare. I have the same wheel on my Porsche and I've been disappointed with it. I can't seem to find a comfortable hand position. What makes the Porsche wheel even worse is that my other car is a mk7 GTI which has one of the best steering wheels of any car I've owned or driven.
Initial impressions after owning E92 for 3 weeks and 700 miles, city to country and a some tight twisty steep tiny roads in the hills--it's natural habitat. Fortunately for me today I happened to pass the only Highway Patrol whilst doing less than 70 in a 65, gotta install that radar detector...I had been a "bit" over that just prior, sheesh this is as bad as that fast street bike I rode daily for 15 yr.s, get's you into trouble all by itself. :D Nitpicking and 'would like to haves': 1) a taller top gear in the manual, better yet a seven speed so that I can cruise the hwy at closer to 2500 rpm instead of 3500 at 80 mph when you don't need power, to save engine wear and fuel, 2) the previous style turn signal control like my E46 where you can FEEL with your fingers whether the signal is on or not, at hyw speeds you can't hear the blinker and the steering wheel blocks exactly that part of the display for me with the E92, and the signal stalk always returns to center so you don't have that crucial tactile check/feedback! As it stands I have to pay extra attention to use it properly and not leave it on accidentally. 3) DSC is still too abrupt and intrusive in the middle setting, not a big deal since you can simply turn it off and that's where the fun really is, then you realize how great it can be and the limited slip diff (I know it's expected) comes into play, I always hated at lower speeds that my Dinan 330ci doesn't have limited slip diff, 4) the throttle pedal spring is too weak for my size 15 feet, a common problem for me and maybe not you, it's no problem during "dynamic" driving where your on and off all three pedals fast and constantly, everything from clutch to brakes feels very good, proficient and predictable, but between hard driving and cruise control my ankle can fatigue from holding my foot OFF the loud pedal (high quality 1st world problem, right!? lol) 5) Old issue but I still miss a darn DIPSTICK, hello BMW! I like to look at and feel the oil between my finger tips as much as I also like the sensors and dash readout, I can't be the only one. 6) the steering wheel position still doesn't have enough travel! 7) Again, maybe not a problem for many as I have XXL paws, or maybe the way I place my hand on the stick, but I keep inadvertently hitting the buttons in front of the stick shift, I only notice when the rear window shade comes up unintentionally, I will have to come up with some sort of thin flip down cover for that row of buttons or change the way I grip the knob. *8) this could be the most important 'issue' here, the steering radius is not near as tight as I would like, not even close to that of the E46, this could be serious not so much for low speed maneuverability, U-turns and such, but because there are times when I use every degree of steer, to the lock, when getting a little too sideways in a corner, particularly in the rain, less steer angle could result in an unintentional 180 which is never a good thing. I think I have completely spun out my 330 3 times in 15 yr.s, driver error obviously but we are always looking for MORE capability not less, and the E92 has significantly LESS than the E46 in this respect.* 9) the backup lights are sort of a joke, I may see if I can do something about that, at least it has the backup sensors to help keep you from bumping into something. One excellent thing about the E92 that does not get enough attention is the throttle response with those fat throttle bodies slammed right against the cylinders, it doesn't get any better in that respect...also similar to those overhead cam multi-valve Japanese street bikes of my youth, 'instant' throttle response is crucial at the limits of traction, more so for a bike but still critical for the car sometimes. *I sought this particular M3 for the engine and it does not disappoint, a gem someone said and it IS.* The manual trans is much better feeling than I was led to believe, can be shifted very smoothly with confidence you know exactly where it is...in or between gears or in the syncro, it is very clear and positive, far better than my E46 for sure but that's the worst part of that particular E46 driver experience. Maybe not the slickest feeling manual this novice has ever experienced, but close. One 2003 M5 6-speed was maybe the very best feeling trans I have ever driven but there are plenty of cars I have no experience with. The E92 does have a long throw for this type of car but I sort of like it that way, It's a "higher resolution" feel, no it's not quite as quick if you are racing I suppose but I'm not one to slam threw gears anyway....having overhauled a couple manuals in my life maybe I'm extra sensitive to exactly what's going on when you force a syncro say. A lot of folks reviewing this car have complained about how long it takes to warm up and attributed that to the 10W-60 oil, that can't be the reason as heat capacities of all motor oils are very similar (few exceptions such as the high zinc oil for the air cooled Porsche perhaps), don't think it's going to change via going to a lower viscosity oil. The fact that it sports 9 quarts capacity is at least part of why it warms slow, not the TYPE of oil.
Got a bit misty eyed watching this - I sold my e92 M3 last week. Agreed with every word of your pros and cons (though I had a manual which felt great). Only thing I didn't hear you mention is the fear of spun rod bearings (which might be overblown). How does the 991.2 (or 991.1 for that matter) compare to owning the e92 M3?
Rod bearings are mith....not true, just some fails in 2007-2009 models, they built 70.000, but they replace in 2010 for durable ones, but bmw said people just don't put correct 10W60 oil on it.
Nick, you need to drive a C63 507 Coupe or C63 with PP package and see which one you like more. I'm a huge BMW guy and never looked twice at Merc's until I drove a C63 507 and was floored. If you think an E92 V8 is good...oh my wait til you hear and feel the M156. In fact I own one now.
Heel Toe Yeah I know but if you plan on picking up a used one you want to make sure it's done or At Least account for it as a possible expense. Because it's pretty costly and takes a decent amount of time to fix.
You know, I bought an e90 MT and after a year I sold it and went back to my e46. I couldn’t get connected to the road and car like the e46 did. Sure it was less powerful but it was way more fun to drive. Still love the e9X series though!
Nick how was this in the winter. If I get a new job was thinking of doing what Doug did and getting a carmax one with bumper to bumper warranty. It should have for itself for the rod bearing or throttle actuator failure.
Totally agree about the E92 M3 - it's the last M car with a true motorsport engine with a great racing career. BMW doesn't even try to race the current M4 in IMSA. I had an E46 M3 for five years before this one, and I while I had a ton of upgrades done to it, it was never as good as an E92.
Its actually pretty great on hills, there must be some sensor built it which automatically holds the brakes for you whilst you move your foot to the accelerator.
Trunk latch looks identical to our MINI Cooper, but since our MINI is mostly just Z3 parts, that's no surprise. I don't think I have ever driven a BMW. Isn't that funny? Looks like a fun car. Heidi
Nick! 5 years and you didn't ever try the 6th stage of the gearbox! You're really missing out man, in my E60 M5 this mode was what everyone loved about it when I took them for rides. You have to try it!
My 991 GT3 and E90 M3 get the same exact gas mileage. Also as it relates to the throttle actuators I think BMW has officially agreed to cover them but they have to fail first; not an official recall.
I sold my 2008 M3 in 2011 and miss it dearly. Just under 50,000 miles. Still conflicted w the transmission choice; If you're a manual expert and enjoy shifting I suppose the 6 speed is relevant. Otherwise, the DCT is optimal.
I love my e92 335i , that being said the seat's are painfully stiff. Leg goes numb after 3 hrs of driving. And the 3 series safety system recall is kind of worth mentioning .
If you love driving and are thinking about getting an E92 M3, take my advice... DO IT. Get the manual transmission. Blip every downshift. Oversteer at every opportunity. Forget torque. Love the throttle response, the power delivery and the sound at 8400rpm and you soon realise that "real world performance" is totally boring.
As for the negatives... the throttle actuator fix is nowhere near that expensive - just find an independent specialist. Research how few engines have actually encountered rod bearing issues and it won't keep you awake at night. I had my M3 for 3 years, the only real problem I had was working out how to ever replace it.
Nick, not to copy your #4 "Mean looking beast".......but I think the stance of that car, especially from the back looks awesome. Looks like some fat tires on there and looks very beefy. (Mike in Ohio)
One of the downsides of these cars is that the brakes fade pretty fast on a track. Commonly the first piece that owners will mod when tracking the car.
Which is not really a launch control. It is more a clutch dump mode (loads and loads of wheelspin). I'm quicker off the line in my E92 M3 just flooring it in normal mode.
replica00000 well if you have a decent set of tires on your car, maybe you wouldn't get wheel spin lol I only spun if my tires were cold or bald and I know for a fact, the car will beat any time done without launch control. It also limits wheel spin when it takes off so maybe take a look at your diff to make sure it's not done
after so many years, i can chip in my solution for the seat belt issue, get a seat belt clip and the arm catches it 95% of the time if the belt is properly retracted to its initial position
I think the reason why you had small issues is bc your was a 2008 first year. Never a good idea to buy first year car esp German and euros. The GTS tune greatly improves the DCT transmission. But yes I agree it should be better from stock but I'm never selling my e90 M3. You can also "code" out the arms to come out. Don't miss the arms in my e92 335i. Glad I went with the e90 LCi. There's also a better fix for throttle actuators. Even if you replace them they will fail in 50k again. The reason they fail is bc the shaft for the individual throttle body gets dirty so the throttle actuators need to work harder and eventually the gears strip. So if you clean the shaft. It will never fail. Just a heads up.
I had a v10 m5 before my current car. I smoked an e92 m3 dct. Regardless the era of high revving fun gas sucking motors are over. And you forgot rod bearings on that list too of things to watch out for.
Another excellent video review, Nick. Makes me want one. Never owned a BMW, but it must be a very good machine. Would you have rather had this or a 911 Carrera (base) from the same year?

phrozen06 My God that's a lot! How many times have the throttle actuators gone?

im getting an e93 m3 soon :). I treated my lyme disease and Im ready to drive this sweet beast! Love it!
I'm on my second E92 and I've never had an issue with the electronics, throttle actuators, seat belt hander, or MPG. My 2008 had over 90k miles when I sold it and my 2013 has just over 50k now. Both were 6 speeds and both averaged 22-23mpg
Is this a troll? Lol
im so glad i just bought my e92 m3. they are amazing. N/A s65 engine is so amazing.
Xan Millar smh you have an S65 motor
lol sorry half asleep its late here in Aus xD
Xan Millar all good mate enjoy your car!
No doubt that the F8x are way faster but the E9x sounds so much better and the steering is better. The fact that Nick felt sad trading in his E92 and doesn't miss his F82 speaks volumes.
2 series also has crap steering
Jonathan Kim new steering is better
What do you mean by the steering being better? I don't think it is.
Teflon Don hydraulic vs electric powered steering
doesn't mean it's better. I have both an e46 and an f30, they both feel really good to me in their own ways. But I do gotta say that the F30's is better.
i see e92 m3 in the title, i hit "like"
Nice video! I just bought a 2011 Comp package in Jerez black also and with 6speed;) has Miestershaft GT2 full titanium exhaust on it already and I love it! I came from e46 M3.
Lmao my dad has same thing same exhaust but it's a dual clutch transmission
3 cars later since I parted with my E92 M3 5 years ago and I still miss it
Great Video! I love the E92 M3! I can recommend the M3 to anyone. It's the best car I've ever had! I had hardly any problems so far.
I recently picked up a new daily driver. I had the E92 M3 on my mind for 2 years. I finally got to drive one. I was pretty happy and everything. The one I was looking was a little beat up. So the 435 is a great car. Did you get an automatic? If you did and it’s not a Sport Auto trans you can program it and it will shift hard and fast almost like a DCT. Also the N55 is one of the best sounding engines BMW has ever made, especially with no cats

I would love an E90 M3 with cloth seats, no sunroof, no iDrive, and with a manual.
BlitzkriegRap buy one then bro. Cheapest they’re ever going to be.
Nick if you're ever in Los Angeles, I got a supercharged E92 M3 with full race suspension you can take for a spin.
Angry 8 I am in LA...
You also have to be a Nick Murray, go get your name changed and come back.
Changing your name to Nick Murray will also get you free small fries at Wendy's of Milford.
Angry 8, that would be pretty awesome.
what supercharger?
That 6th aggressiveness step is what enables Launch Control. You need to have warmed up the car, then stop somewhere flat, let off the brake, hold the shifting knob forward until a race flag appears in the center console, then press the gas pedal hard, it will spool up to ~5k rpm, then let go of the shifter you were holding forward. The car launches and you just need to press the gas pedal, it changes gears FOR you at redline, until you stop holding the gas pedal or press the brakes.
the seat belt iron! I remember, this is how I first found your channel when I needed a fix in my 335i. Still watch every video since!
Ryan S I've had a very similar experience and agree with you completely.
I love your videos , they are informative and very entertaining. You spoke about the "leetha" seats but that wasn't on your list.
I owned a 2011 E93 which was a hard top convert. Owned it for 5 years and just sold it with 20K miles. Loved the looks of it and sound of the engine. Hated the auto transmission and was definitely concerned about future expensive engine problems.
I've been recently giving one of these another thought, and my God.....I must say this sounds PHENOMENAL!!!
E92 M3 competition package is great. I’ve had two of them. Love this car.
Kaipeternicolas I must have known at the time because it was required for LC
Haha ok fair enough. I was like "there is NO WAY". Glad you still love the E9X M3 so much though. Shows me at least that you're a "real" car guy. Keep it up!
That sixth bar on sport, traction control off tip made my day
going to try it out after work
Last naturally aspirated M3. That’s the main reason why they will appreciate in value
Nick ...... what ever your's Porsche or BMW M4 previously owned .... there nu comparison between BMW M3 e92 or the other cars in terms of feelings !
You forgot the rod bearing issues for this engine. I still want one regardless of the negatives.
TABL3SIX there was a recall for that
@@AMoistBum Not for the e9x their wasn't.
Rod bearings it's mith...no true
E46 M3 with the SMG II also has the 6th bar when you turn off traction and hit the sport button.
Is nobody going to mention the hair at 3:45? Lord....
Is that Nick Murray or Nick Cage? :O
He looked like Edd China
Nick I have an e92 myself and agree it's an absolute gem; a car I'll keep for a long time. My next step is to add a Harrop supercharger and I'd love for you to give a review of it down the road. Cheers
i drive a 330xd Coupe facelift and I love it....but this old M3 model is still my dream car...i love it so much
A Nick video. Good start to a Friday!
Nick,
We're twins.
This Car definitely has an aggressive look and amazing sounds . It's a very close 2nd to my favorite ...the E46 M3.
Love your videos Nick! Keep it up. I'm looking to get an E92 within the next 3 years. Hopefully they don't shoot up too much by then.
Have you got one?
This has been my favourite BMW since it came out in 07! I dream of owning one of these beauties one day.
Thank you! I've been asking for the review of this one for a long time!
One of the best looking M3s for sure
Beemers get a bad rap from from corners. When I lived in Germany I owned several and I loved them!
E92 and it's S65 will be an icon car for sure. The F8X cars will not.
over 100K Subs Nick Good Job Mate!! I have had both e92 and F80 M3. I have to say I do love my current one (F80) more. I guess it's a matter of choice or tastes. Don't get me wrong I loved the E92.
+nick Murray, I Totally agree this will be a serious collectors car. Especially now that naturally aspirated V8s are border line illegal.
I love mustangs as well, but they lack prestige and are far more common.
Nice video Nick.. You must grow your back!! What video editor do you use?
Grow my back?
Nick Murray pretty sure he meant "hair back" grow your hair back...
Hair Back !!! I meant.. though you should definitely also grow your back
That was a wig : ) I use Final Cut Pro
In that case start wearing it again.. ;) p.s- I liked my E46 M3 but did not love it..
Hottub Errol the bulb issues were with the 2007/8 models only it seems.
And normally cruise 100+ which eats fuel and we only have 97 octane gas here
55 is far from the highest speed limit in the U.S, most are 70 and a few 80 mph.
Us gallon is smaller than uk gallon
Nick, I'm glad you mentioned the "meaty" steering wheel. After driving the E92 M3 again, do you find your 911 steering wheel doesn't compare. I have the same wheel on my Porsche and I've been disappointed with it. I can't seem to find a comfortable hand position. What makes the Porsche wheel even worse is that my other car is a mk7 GTI which has one of the best steering wheels of any car I've owned or driven.
Makes me miss mine. The weight and lack of torque made me go over to a c7 GS Vette. Very different animal
Nitpicking and 'would like to haves':
1) a taller top gear in the manual, better yet a seven speed so that I can cruise the hwy at closer to 2500 rpm instead of 3500 at 80 mph when you don't need power, to save engine wear and fuel,
2) the previous style turn signal control like my E46 where you can FEEL with your fingers whether the signal is on or not, at hyw speeds you can't hear the blinker and the steering wheel blocks exactly that part of the display for me with the E92, and the signal stalk always returns to center so you don't have that crucial tactile check/feedback! As it stands I have to pay extra attention to use it properly and not leave it on accidentally.
3) DSC is still too abrupt and intrusive in the middle setting, not a big deal since you can simply turn it off and that's where the fun really is, then you realize how great it can be and the limited slip diff (I know it's expected) comes into play, I always hated at lower speeds that my Dinan 330ci doesn't have limited slip diff,
4) the throttle pedal spring is too weak for my size 15 feet, a common problem for me and maybe not you, it's no problem during "dynamic" driving where your on and off all three pedals fast and constantly, everything from clutch to brakes feels very good, proficient and predictable, but between hard driving and cruise control my ankle can fatigue from holding my foot OFF the loud pedal (high quality 1st world problem, right!? lol)
5) Old issue but I still miss a darn DIPSTICK, hello BMW!
I think I have completely spun out my 330 3 times in 15 yr.s, driver error obviously but we are always looking for MORE capability not less, and the E92 has significantly LESS than the E46 in this respect.*
9) the backup lights are sort of a joke, I may see if I can do something about that, at least it has the backup sensors to help keep you from bumping into something.
*I sought this particular M3 for the engine and it does not disappoint, a gem someone said and it IS.*
The manual trans is much better feeling than I was led to believe, can be shifted very smoothly with confidence you know exactly where it is...in or between gears or in the syncro, it is very clear and positive, far better than my E46 for sure but that's the worst part of that particular E46 driver experience.
I would use 5w50.. The Nissan GTR does.. maybe better for the rod bearings !!
Love that engine sound too. Almost sounds like the soundtrack from Bullitt..........
Wow! listen to that engine, beautiful sound.
Rod bearings.
You can't leave that out.
Ashish Patel it affects about 1% of cars.
Way overhyped. Just like n54 hpfp failures
There's a solid shop around me that services the rods for 2300. Then you're good to go. :)
Ashish Patel finally somebody isn't an Internet TH-cam sheep.
Heel Toe Yeah I know but if you plan on picking up a used one you want to make sure it's done or At Least account for it as a possible expense. Because it's pretty costly and takes a decent amount of time to fix.
Nice to see you can still like that Beemer. BMW is not my cup of tea, as they say. Test de RS4 if you can. And it's a four wheel drive, too.
Great video as always Nick
Glad to own one...
Nice vid btw!
Same thing with turning the traction off in the old e46 smg, gives a 6th level of aggressive change.
With snow tires they are good.
993mike e46m Is a much better car
ahh the last of a dying breed, the magnificent e92 m3
CMO Vlogs I
That gearbox is a PITA when parking, especially on a hill!
Its actually pretty great on hills, there must be some sensor built it which automatically holds the brakes for you whilst you move your foot to the accelerator.
Great video, Nick. What I would really love, is if you took some time to compare that e92 to the later f80.
Trunk latch looks identical to our MINI Cooper, but since our MINI is mostly just Z3 parts, that's no surprise. I don't think I have ever driven a BMW. Isn't that funny? Looks like a fun car. Heidi
Nice review, I'm still in love with the e92 M3! A breed that is sadly dying.
That 6th speed for the gearbox is also how you initiate launch control 😉
I sold my 2008 M3 in 2011 and miss it dearly. Just under 50,000 miles. Still conflicted w the transmission choice;
If you're a manual expert and enjoy shifting I suppose the 6 speed is relevant. Otherwise, the DCT is optimal.
I love my e92 335i , that being said the seat's are painfully stiff. Leg goes numb after 3 hrs of driving. And the 3 series safety system recall is kind of worth mentioning .
335i it's miles down M3 E92, it's just same brand, the rest nothing to compare, M3 it's much better.
Should've mentioned about the rod bearing issue along with the Throttle actuators.
Another great review Nick!
The first 6 seconds of the video were shot in Monroe, CT. Actually a majority of it was it seems haha. I live 5 min from there, small world!
I was just looking at the E92 yesterday, and dreaming about getting it when my E46 325i eventually dies lol
This must be an omen.
You need to engage that 6th setting of the transmission in order to use launch control
I love the look, because it reminds me of the original night rider. 😍
after so many years, i can chip in my solution for the seat belt issue, get a seat belt clip and the arm catches it 95% of the time if the belt is properly retracted to its initial position
They are built so much better than normal 3 series. Felt very sturdy compared to my crap 335i I had.
I'm considering purchasing one of these, I can save up the money but I'm afraid the repairs, insurance and fuel will bankrupt me..
BMW allways better value for money in same year, porsche its too expensive...
Dang, I tuned in to learn more handy tips on house maintenance!
Fail! I need to refocus!
I just drove a e93 M3 with agency power exhaust. The idle on that thing is so noisy and deep holy crap.
I had an e46 M3 and never really cared for the e9X. Lately they are beginning to grow on me tho.
