I don’t agree, I think Rise was very fast paced and only has the bare essentials it needs; if anything it’s too fast paced. It has scenes that combine two or more events into one, like Caesar’s mother breaking into the conference room in the beginning at the exact moment when James Franco’s character is pitching the drug to the board, a ridiculous coincidence and obviously done to save time. And there are many more examples like that. You couldn’t cut/speed up Rise much more without having it feel too cartoony. With Kingdom you could have gotten rid of a lot of the eagle clan stuff, or killed off all the villagers except Noa, and it probably would have both shortened and improved the movie. With Rise I don’t think there’s anything you could have cut without hurting the film; if anythjng it needs more footage, like a scene where Caesar gives the drug to the zoo apes, which he must have done since they’re smart but they never show it.

*SPOILER* My only complaint was that Proximus didn’t get to flex his kingdom on someone. He should’ve stuck around for another 1-2 movies because he was amazing.
My one and only gripe with this movie is that we should’ve gotten more of Proximus. He’s in maybe a quarter of the movie and every scene he’s in is magnificent. *SPOILERS* I really hope he survived that fall at the end of the movie. I really want him to return in some way. I know it’s not likely but there’s always a chance. He was easily my favourite character, and dare I say might be a better villain than Koba had he been in more of the movie.
The best thing about this movie actually being good is that the director is supposed to work on a Zelda movie next, and it's reassuring. ...still think it being live-action isn't the best decision, though.
This movie,Dune pt 2, the fall guy and even animated comic book movie's like Spiderverse and TMNT mutant mayham is why we still go to the movie theatre's.......And also when Disney actually allow thier creative teams to use CGI to it's full potential they can get all the praise they want, It's almost like Disney should let thier creative team's be creative because you got to spend money to make more money
it was very entertaining and fun to watch, the world building was so good and the introduction to new clans and characters. to me, the story was straightforward, however I was unsatisfied with the pacing, it began well at first, but then rushed towards the end. and how May’s character was written despite being a huge presence in the story. barely shared anything about her, and she was written so one-dimensionally, and then boom, the whole reveal about humans living in bunkers??

SPOILER ALERT I was really disappointed that Raka died so early. Im a big fan of Peter Macon because of his work on The Orville as Bortus and i was excited to seem him playing another silly but wise fella :(
This movie excels at sprinkling in questions to pique your interest, then gradually unraveling the answers in creative ways as the plot progresses. It makes for a surprisingly engaging watch. My only real complaint is that the story has a lot of "been there, done that" elements from other movies, and Proximus Caesar is criminally underutilized as an antagonist. The idea of an ape king twisting the words of Caesar to serve his own malicious desires is an incredible concept I wish was explored more. Overall though, I loved Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (it's not as good as Dawn or War, but it's at least on par with Rise)
I feel like im on crazy pills cus nobody agrees with me but I absolutely LOVED the first hour of world building and was kinda dissapointed once we got into stupid fast human drama again. Proximus felt wasted because suddenly rather than exploring this character and his kingdom he had to be the villain and die, it felt like checking off necessary narrative elements while the first part of the movie felt magical
@@aidanchilton7899They didn't show either of their bodies so we can assume they'll return in the sequel, hopefully. Now I'm wondering who's the next group of villains gonna be. If it humans with same motivation of taking over the planet then it'll be repetitive.
I’ve watched the trilogy reboot. While i thought dawn and war were masterpieces kingdom felt like one of the og pota movies. The trilogy is like roman literature and mythology. it shows how the society evolved to where apes were dominant and humans were diseased and became “echoes”. but kingdom did a great job of tying the trilogy to a world more like the og movie series. I hope the next movie continues this progress bc now that the human can communicate and the apes discovered the telescope i’d like to see what the next 50- few hundred years look like. Such an amazing series.
While I find the recent ape movie all over the place when it come to pacing I wish they'd drop the longer action scene as some elements of the world like the relationship between Proximus's apes and the mute human. Every movie covers very wide themes and I often feel frustrated when they rush it. The ideas are so deep they deserve it.

Like I get her motives and all but it felt like she needed more. Frank Gallagher, Trevathan, himself had a small role but he felt like a more interesting character than her 2: Proximus Caesar showed it in like the last 40 minutes of the movie and though he was a very menacing villain and ape character, he just didn’t get enough screen time for me to like him more than I did.
proximus was menacing i guess? but he was also pretty stupid in his actions, hes supposed to be smart but he acts like a moron for example at the end where he starts beating the shit out of noah which i can get but also his entire tribe is there like what did he think was going to happen

Not slow but I still didn’t like it. Aimless and shallow
@@FlyingFocs Yeah, slow is more like how I would describe something like Blade Runner, not Planet of the Apes.
surprisingly? the last 3 apes movies have been terrific, most people should expect this movie to be good
this coming from the same guy who watches a “monkey movie” every weekend and has only watched like two actual movies w monkeys
I had my doubts cuz these past years movie have just started digging up big name series and giving them a sequel, but those new sequels just feel like a cashgrab with no soul.
Las tres primeras películas de Kung fu panda fueron grandiosas
la última
First one fine, second one good but crazy-cliched, 3rd one was pandering and dull, but this one was the worst by far. Thor Live and Thunder levels of cringe
i been loving the modern planet of the ape movies and was worried about this one, very pleased to be hearing good things about them now I'm excited
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY 🗿
Just binged all these prequel films while I’ve been ill and can’t believe I was sleeping on them
They’re so good
It might be bc i was really really stoned but i really appreciated how they nailed details like spit? In the fight at the end I was totally floored by how it looked when Noa spat out blood
The trailer for this movie got me to watch the whole series. I thought this movie wasn't as good as the Andy Serkis trilogy but I definitely want to see more.
*SPOILER*
My only complaint was that Proximus didn’t get to flex his kingdom on someone. He should’ve stuck around for another 1-2 movies because he was amazing.

Thank you :)
I just saw this and I actually thought the pacing was perfect. Had my attention the whole time and was really savoring being in that world.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
It might lose the VFX Oscar to Dune 2
Pretty mid movie
Should
who cares id never watch a movie about drug adiccts hiding behind a conflict liek resource bring u money just what drug gangs think.
@@shaycormaic5365dune 2 is mid or Planet of the apes is mid?
My one and only gripe with this movie is that we should’ve gotten more of Proximus. He’s in maybe a quarter of the movie and every scene he’s in is magnificent.
*SPOILERS*
I really hope he survived that fall at the end of the movie. I really want him to return in some way. I know it’s not likely but there’s always a chance. He was easily my favourite character, and dare I say might be a better villain than Koba had he been in more of the movie.
Surprisingly isn’t a word I would use to describe a follow up to one of the most underrated trilogies of all time.
I genuinely love the slow pacing of this film, I actually prefer if they stretched it more just for more Proximus Caesar
The best thing about this movie actually being good is that the director is supposed to work on a Zelda movie next, and it's reassuring.
...still think it being live-action isn't the best decision, though.
The voices were too human. The uncanny valley in the first 30 minutes is WILDLY jarring
After this new one came out I binge watched the last 3 movies, they’re so entertaining
What a wonderful Daayyy
Do you know the concept of E-vo-lution?
PUUUULLLL
My favorite quotes from Proximus.
I dont agree with many of your points but I do appreciate you making a video about it and I respect your opinions. much love
I haven’t seen any of the other Planet of the Apes movies except for this one and now I’m fully prepared to binge them all, so good!
I felt like every scene was necessary and it didn’t lull you to sleep because it honestly went by fast. But I believe the lead up to meeting Proximus and his kingdom had you expecting so much. The kingdom seemed scattered and not put together at times. For apes to have been ruling that long and to now be enslaving and killing other apes, you’d think there would be more of a focus on the sheer size and strength of Proximus’ army. As well as a glimpse on how he ruled. It was also much too easy for Noa to successfully destroy what they had built imo.
0:37 lmaoo same bro i literally just got on youtube one day and saw a trailer for it and was like oh shittttt
If anything, I wanted it to be longer. The world building was immaculate and I left to the theater wanting more
Hey Karsten,
I humbly disagree with you. I think Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is unsurprisingly good.
Thank you.
I thought you said “Kevin Durant” was that Bad Ceaser monkey 😆
saw it earlier today and its great, also the movie this is gonna get snubbed for is dune
Probably, but makes me sad. I enjoyed this movie way more. Don’t get me wrong, Dune was very well made, but I just didn’t find it nearly as fun or exciting.
It’s an embarrassing kiddy film
Have you watched the movies that came previous to this one???
Those are grim-dark, not for children.
@@Alx1744 I did see them! loved all three, and I don't think the new one is for children, if that's what your saying.
@@Stinkysauce3102
yewtube messed-up my reply, like they mess-up everything else... I replied to that "samb8744" 👆🏻
Did Karsten ever talk about war for the planet of the apes??
He gave it 3 stars on Letterboxd
I swear this man still hasn't reviewed War for the Planets of the Apes yet, where is it at
He gave it 3/5
SPOILER ALERT
I was really disappointed that Raka died so early. Im a big fan of Peter Macon because of his work on The Orville as Bortus and i was excited to seem him playing another silly but wise fella :(
OOO OOOO AAA AAAA
If you haven’t seen it yet you gotta see hundreds of beavers
Mannn I loved the slow pace
Still pissed they killed off roka for a weak thematic reason
@@aidanchilton7899They didn't show either of their bodies so we can assume they'll return in the sequel, hopefully.
Now I'm wondering who's the next group of villains gonna be. If it humans with same motivation of taking over the planet then it'll be repetitive.
Just saw this movie and it was bad ass ! Lowkey my favorite in the franchise now something about it was fun a lil scary but inspiring the most
I’ve watched the trilogy reboot.
WHAT A WONDERFUL VIDEO
The part where Noa inspires the others to take down proximus, really screamed "Ape together strong"
not even really surprising given how damn consistent this franchise is
I do not want this modern franchise to ever fall off or disappoint. But I know the more it continues, the more probable the fall off would be
Rn it’s growing
As a longtime planet of the apes fan, this movie was everything I wanted it to be and more. And that ending!
THANK YOU OMG I WAS HAVING ALL THESE FEELINGS ABOUT THIS FILM BUT YOU DESCRIBED EXACTLY HOW I FELT JESUS FUCK I FEEL SO SATISFIED RIGHT NOW.
the thumbnail is killing me, this movie coming out while you've got that challenge going is a godsend. Monkey premium
I hope this movie does well cus the previous Apes trilogy really was one of the most underrated ever. Can't wait to gush in it soon.
They should call the next film “Legacy of the Planet of the Apes” where Noa finds out about his legacy of Caesar with him being his descendent
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!🗣️🔥🔥🦧🦧🦧🦧🦧🦧🦧🦍
Hey Karsten I feel obligated to inform you that the number one monkey movie guy is actually Matt Stewart and his 2nd Banana Evan Munroe-Smith with their podcast Prime Mates where they talk about monkeys and apes in popular culture from chimpan-A to chimpanzee
Is it just me who would think it would be fun if Karsten binged all 3 versions of Apoclaypse Now
Day 1 of asking Karsten for a Succession character tier list video
Noa is a good template for Link as far as a near-nonverbal protagonist goes.
6:00 ojala algun dia hagan una película de Transformers en completo cgi sin humanos
Just got out of the theater from seeing it. Definitely a solid movie, I hope they turn it into another trilogy
GREAT review bro. Simple yet detailed. And I agree with you haha. Well done👌
I like Kingdom but I had two major problems:
1) The Main Human Character we follow, Mae, I think she felt underdeveloped to me for some reason. Like I get her motives and all but it felt like she needed more. Frank Gallagher, Trevathan, himself had a small role but he felt like a more interesting character than her
2: Proximus Caesar showed it in like the last 40 minutes of the movie and though he was a very menacing villain and ape character, he just didn’t get enough screen time for me to like him more than I did.
proximus was menacing i guess? but he was also pretty stupid in his actions, hes supposed to be smart but he acts like a moron for example at the end where he starts beating the shit out of noah which i can get but also his entire tribe is there like what did he think was going to happen
@@Spudster203 that and why did this mf not think about going AROUND the Bunker to get in?? Like wtf???
@@JYang0602 nahh bro i thought the exact same thing when they found the drainage or whatever, like its not that hidden there is is a literal like path on the cliff top to it, also we practically see nothing of the society hes created its all kind of brushed over
still an underrated franchise. and I also really liked this one :)
I've learned over the years that you really enjoy / are fine with SLOW movies, so I was surprised to hear you had some issues with this pacing. I did feel it but not that much and I kinda liked the slowness in the beginnig (same reason as avatar kinda)
If they ain't casting Andy Serkis or Paul Giamatti among the main monkey roles...I ain't interested 😂
I can't wait to see it! I love the Matt Reeves ones, they are iconic. But this seems to keep the same vain of woven dreams. ❤
The philosophy is never ending and I always want more of this pondering and lore.
Why did i get Fallout Vibes Watching this Movie
•Caeser's Legion
•Woman from Vault collecting a Chip
•Humans Protecting technology from the apes
•Post Apocalyptic
•Humans hiding in vaults
Probably a coincidence or the writer played New Vegas
I couldn't shake how much Noa looked like Christian Bale, so I looked up the actor and realized that Owen Teague actually looks a lot like a young Christian Bale, maybe if he was portrayed by Austin Butler.
All I can say is why surprisingly good when the last 3 movies are all certified bangers?
Of course its good. It has monkey
For your next monkey Monday, I recommend Every Which Way But Loose with Clint Eastwood if you haven’t already
There's 10 movies. 5 of the ones on that list are edits of the 1974 tv series and 1 is a behind the scenes documentary.
5:40 It’ll probably lose best VFX to Dune part 2 in the next Oscar’s
6:51 unreasonable critique. There is a scene with Noah's fur covered in ash
I’m gonna say something controversial. While this movie is fine I think the previous three utterly outshine it.
This movie was so average, nothing new, nothing interesting, just super safe. The fact that it came after a perfect trilogy makes it even worse. If you randomly pause in any scene from the previous three movies I guarantee you'll find something more interesting, compelling, creative and visually beautiful than anything in this one.
@@pietropietro5466i just watched the movie and i was genuinly bord in the middle of it, theres was so much stuff that wasnt fleshed out. I thought it was gonna go a competely different direction then what happened, the actual story couldve been way better then what we got.
It’s actually very funny to me that Karsten has issues with the pacing. I saw Furiosa the next day and really missed the faster pace of Kingdom imo. But I might also be a crazy person for that take.
