      May I ask the difference?
What if you get seen as a hypocrite or something? What’s the defence. Im not saying this because I think he’s a hypocrite, is just people say that to me a lot when I change my mind… say when is is ok to even change your mind before it looks bad or selfish?

@alex.g7317 being a hypocrite would be changing what you say just for the sake of saying it. Changing opinions and having a reason shows that your taste and values have changed, which is totally ok

im confused why both you and karsten are fighting the air on this. the idea that changing opinions makes you a hypocrite is an unpopular opinion (especially amongst the type of people that watch these videos) and is viewed as a dumb thing to think.
most people agree that its a sign of growth, and nobody who watches his videos is saying otherwise? just feels like arguing with a strawman.

this is why TH-cam reviews are great and review journalism is bad. Seeing the character behind the review is not only much more entertaining but also, you can understand 10000x more why they enjoy certain things due to the ability to see what they are like as a character and other films they enjoy. When I see a TH-camr criticising something I like constructively I have a much higher chance of sticking around contently.

I remember watching "Boyhood (2014)" when it came out in a theater. I was 19 years old and after watching it I thought it was disappointing because nothing really happened. Rewatching it later after 10 years, not only I liked it so much more but I managed to connect so much with all of the characters at those different times of their lives. I feel like the older I get, the more I'd get out of watching it.

Linklater subverts the traditional narrative arc in a number of his movies, including the Before trilogy and Everybody Wants Some. It can be both a little disappointing for the uninitiated (bc you're primed to expect that usual rising action, climax, falling action, etc from having seen it in almost every other movie/novel before) and refreshing for a change from the norm.

The way you describe our views on art changes as we change in age rings so true when I rewatched Apocalypse Now (which I’ve rewatched 6 times this year alone). I was a big war film fan and Platoon done a great job of introducing me to the Vietnam War with a very human feel. However, I was 14 then and very new to experiencing war films and particularly Vietnam, so Apocalypse Now threw me off with it’s pace and very different plot. Now looking back it’s one of my favourite films (even above Platoon which is one of my favourite films), probably due to how how high quality the production is and how I’ve changed in nearly a decade.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks that about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, wouldn't say it's my favourite of his but man the way Tarantino portrays Hollywood, not only romanticising it but very much criticising it as well makes it one of his most powerful films in my opinion and never lets down throughout its hefty run time

@@TNT-dn9es the last hour changes depending on what version you are talking about, but the whole section at kurtz compound is filmic perfection imo
it's supposed to get weird, each stop along the river gets more and more insane, dark and depraved as it goes along, detached further and further from the order and comfort of civilised society, he travels up the artery into the heart of darkness to be confronted by his own shadow, and in Kurtz he finds exactly that. The shell of a man he would become if he were to surrender to his own darkness.
It is masterful storytelling that works both on such a psychologically rich level.
It's not just a war film that works on the surface level. The book it was adapted from had nothing to do with the vietnam war, because that's not really what it's about, ford coppola uses vietnam and his experiences in the war to examine the same dark psychological truths about himself that joseph conrad did in the original book.

"I think what makes cinema to me, I think ultimately, it's something that for some reason stays with you so that a few years later you can watch it again or 10 years later you can watch it again and it's different. In other words there's more to learn about yourself, or about life. That's interesting. At first you may find that "I'm affected by this film, the camerawork is amazing the actors are terrific, great editing and that sort of thing," but after a certain amount of time, after you get enough of that... you can watch it repeatedly, and you can watch it different times in your life, and the film's the same, you changed." -Martin Scorsese

I agree. I think there’s a lot of ppl that got rlly frustrated by it. And perhaps removed from the hype, and just giving it a genuine try, might change their opinion, it might not. But idk for me it rlly was a groundbreaking film, watching it in the theatre, completely engrossed, no distractions, that was a big part of it. Yes its long and perhaps slow but i dont feel much time is ‘wasted’ for it, havent rewatched it since tbf, but thats just cuz i just have it time-capsuled in my memory, and rewatching some of those scenes, like the one with the Memory-maker, or flying to the scrapheap, or K and Joi, idk some of these scenes are utterly perfect. The opening, what an amazing hard-boiled detective thriller type of opening. Still one of the best movies of the last couple years for me, but idk i understand other ppl not liking it
