You're right but what I mean is the majority in the urban areas...most sound like this.
Back in the day, Indians really did speak like how American media portrays (early and late 90's) but as time passed, English became an important second language in India, the accent also evolved to be what it is today but American media does not seem to grasp the change, they've stuck to the old accent.
Dee Mash Don't kid yourself. Vir Das lived in U.S for 10 years, studied here worked here. 80% of India still got the accent media portrays. Watch EIC for reference.

very cool guy! I went to India with my girlfriend for 4 months one year ago! Best time of our lives! So many great people, so generous and friendly and the food is amazing if you like spicy food! And in the non-tourist regions everything is so goddamn cheap, food, hotels, transportation. We traveled over 8k km via train and bus and paid in total sth like 150 Dollars each. If you have the chance to go there for some time, just do it! It is great! Don't spend so much time in the typical tourist places like mumbai, varanasi, delhi, goa, agra etc but visit some villages as well and some less famous sights! Darjeeling and everything in Kerala were my favourites! Lovely country with lovely people!

No, it's just that Indians tend to take respect very seriously regardless of the population thry deal with. For example, we say "Namaste" with our hands folded because it symbolises that we see God in the soul of every person and acknowledge it. We say "Salaam" to respect the large Muslim population in India and try to remediate the tensions between our nations. We shake hands because we know that is what people in the west find comfort with. By adopting other greetings we complement our own, not diminish it

This is the first comedian in half a decade that has honestly made me laugh. Sure, I've snorted at late night shows and stuff, and I don't make a habit of watching comedians (a lot of humor is so very crass these days) but this has just the right amount of irony and self awareness.
He was funny, what I liked about this is the crowd didn't "overlaugh" at literally anything lol.
I think it was because a lot of the stuff he touched on was verrrryyy controversial here in the United States, especially among liberals. There were plenty of times where I said, "I can't believe he said that on television!" We didn't know whether or not we could laugh. But yes, he was great.

I am surprised how often this happens to brown people but never to white people. Russell Peters is not Indian, either by citizenship or by culture. He is Canadian and now an American Resident. He is Indian by descent as his parents used to be Indians.

I am actually super happy that Vir Das is getting more international exposure.
He has been coming in Indian movies for a few years now, and has been doing stand-up and live music for a long time.
I first saw him live in Mumbai in 2011, Vir Das The History of India. And it was hilarious.
He deserves more success and international recognition.
